"5th greatest shooting guard off all time: Jimmy or James?"
Wed May-18-22 04:47 PM by allStah

After last night, I put Jimmy ahead of James. It could very well change.

But Jimmy led his team to a chip, and took the lakers 6 games without the
second and third best player on the team, and what he is doing now is ridiculous.
He is a two way monster....Jordan/pippen level monster.

He isn’t playing with a superstar 2 either.

Jordan
Wade
Bryant
West
Buckets/ Beard

If you come in here talking that AI shit, GTFO

Lakers WON the chip that year, so you knew what it was referring to.

He led them to the finals, to the chip, whatever. If you want to fight over semantics,
then you’re on your own.

Just answer the question.

Meanwhile no - at least 3 people here have pointed out you were wrong. And again - NOBODY calls it a “chip series” or hell a “championship series”

But sure. I’m weird and wrong.

Just take the L.

For the record…

Jordan
Kobe
Harden
Wade
AI/West

I can rank Jimmy over AI if he wins the title. Maybe. Jerry West and AI were combo guards in the way Steph is so that’s hard to definitively rank them. Pure 2 guards I put Clyde in the top 5 convo.

Anyway just admit you said something wrong. It’s not hard. Weirder if you don’t to be honest.

as prolific as harden as a scorer. Clyde was a decent defender.

Harden won MVP and avg 30 a game in three straight seasons.

Clyde was great, but not that great. He is top 10.
But ahead of Harden and Jimmy?

Iverson averaged 30 5 times in an era where they scored like 90 points a game.

30 now isn’t the same as 30 back in Clyde and Iverson’s era.

Some feel Harden should have won three straight MVPs.

Clyde was the man, and had a complete offensive game, and
he did lead Portland to the finals....He wasn’t dropping 40 point performances
in the finals or conference finals, though.

Clyde was an allStar, but never reached superstar status.

literally weeks apart but their careers have taken different turns.

I also think it’s funny as how the Lakers’ 2020 championship is always dismissed as the “bubble chip” but that same Finals is used to add to the legacy of Miami and its players and coach.

Harden has zero all defense teams. Jimmy has 5, and led his team to the finals,
and he plays both sides of the ball. Jimmy can take over games from both sides.

Harden is a superstar but a one sided superstar. Jimmy is more dynamic.

Yes. It is, but 5 all defenses vs one MVP?... one showcases consistency,
the other, well, means he was great for that one year.

Steve Nash won 2 MVPs, yet he is rarely listed in a top 5 pg list...
and he isn’t in yours....and you have players who have no MVPs
ahead of him.

Explain, since you’re using that as a deciding factor between Jimmy and
James.

Jimmy is by far the superior player, especially in the post season where
Harden HAS NEVER BEEN GREAT. ...Jimmy has cemented himself as one
of the greatest postseason players ever, by doing stuff that only Jordan has done.

Because I read something on OKP, and I thought, "That's objectively insane," and I saw someone made a straight-forward, completely reasonable rebuttal... and that rebuttal came from ThaTruth.

Just goes to show you that everyone contains multitudes. I usually think he's wrong, I'm sure he usually thinks I'm wrong, but when we see some shit that's so obviously wrong that we both immediately go, "Well, there's an easy explanation for why that's crazy"?

The world is a mysterious and magical place.

Yeah, the bubble chip is worse.

Kinda crazy how the still-intact teams and players that did good in the bubble continue to do good. And *that* Lakers team wins or at least seriously contends in any other situation.

Also kinda crazy how those on the opposite side of that fence largely continue to not do shit. Almost beggars belief.

The NBA season is a marathon
The bubble chip was absolutely easier
Similarly to 99, not only was the season shortened
No fans and a spring break

I highly doubt 2020 would’ve had a different result than the last 2 seasons for +35Y.O. Bron and street clothes if it was a full season.

by no home court advantage despite being the #1 seed.

And the additional rest favored them over who? If the Lakers games got pushed back, any subsequent opponents would have had their matchups against the lakers pushed back. I'm really not following that logic.

They also were the team with the best record in the West and 2nd overall when covid hit. So its not like they got hot in the bubble after struggling prior to.

Who do i think would have won? The lakers. There's no evidence that points to anything contrary. The fact that the lakers have had injury problems the last 2 years doesn't give evidence that they wouldn't have won in a non-bubble 2020. In fact, there's more logic that suggests the short offseason after the 2020 bubble has exacerbated Davis and his injury woes and Lebron's age

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

There’s a reason three games in three nights isn’t a thing, but they were that year.

That season was a challenge unto itself.

And like the bubble, everyone is there under the same circumstance.

If it was “easy”, it was easy for everyone.

Calling it “easy” just highlights the fact that everyone else lost an “easy” one.

Of course, that makes it harder to throw shade, because it’s anyone looks weak, it’s everyone who failed to win the “easy” one.

It’s an objectively dumb argument that doesn’ hold up to even mild scrutiny or critical thinking.

He isn't making many top 5 PG lists cuz he doesn't really play point...fair.

Then he's a 2 guard. And he's top 3.

MJ
Kobe
Steph

And AI would be next...not sure why AI makes folks so mad. Dude would be a god in today's NBA.

Then Wade I suppose. Maybe Harden or Drexler (lol at him not being a top 5 player during his time, objectively not true)

My point is Steph is on the list and he is high on said list.

I think Steph is a PG and his style is an evolution of the position. AI was his forerunner....Steph just happens to shoot like Steve Nash, and attacks like AI.

I came in here ready to go, "NOPE! Curry's better than Kobe." Just on some pure gut-check shit.

But then I looked at the accomplishments, because I thought, "Let's calm down, I know Kobe has more rings, even if he wasn't The Guy for a couple of them, let's not get hasty."

Bruh, Kobe has ELEVEN All-NBA First Teams to Steph's *FOUR.*
And EIGHTEEN All-Star Games to Steph's *EIGHT.*

Even leaving out the defense entirely, and even acknowledging that a couple of Kobe's ASG appearances were horseshit (which they were)?

Like, it's not even close between Kobe and Steph. Not remotely.

I thought because Steph is the best shooter who's probably ever lived that it was closer on eye test. But it's not. At all.

That's why you always need to go back and check yourself before saying some dumbass shit. (And I wish I knew this lesson years ago when posting wild shit on here, lmao.)

I won’t even call this revisionist, because it’s something most people flat out ignored in real time.

Kobe wasn’t The Guy for ring 1- but even then, he WAS The Guy for a pivotal game when The Guy fouled out.

After that? That shit was 1A and 1B- and who was who changed on any given night.

Kobe did a TON of heavy lifting in those West playoffs, brimming with teams who had waves of big men to throw at Shaq.

Kobe feasted on The Spurs, Kings, and Blazers- all of which were better than the teams they beat in the Finals, where Shaq dominated thin/old front lines. Deke was on his last legs, Smits was done. Of course Shaq got Finals MVP against those teams. It’s arguable that Kobe is more than worthy of that nod in the west playoffs.

I suppose Indy is an exception there though. I think they were up to par.

But Kobe straight up wrecked the western conference playoff teams, who could at least make it hard for Shaq.

None of this diminishes Shaq, and there’s no denying Kobe benefited from his presence. But Shaq absolutely benefited from Kobe’s ability to share that offensive burden, and Kobe didn’t do so at a sidekick level for 01 and 02.

There’s a lot kore to say on this, but Kobe is ridiculously undersold and undervalued in those title seasons.

I was always a Shaq Guy first and foremost, so I always viewed Kobe as the 2nd option, but that’s also through the eyes of a Shaq superfan.

Which is why I always try nowadays to do a quick fact check before posting, especially about guys who played two decades ago now. Hard to remember sometimes everything that dudes did if they weren’t Your Dude, lol.

Plus he was generally fun and jovial toward the media, so ai get that people got tunnel vision with him. Especially once the rest of the field of elite centers retired.

But man… the level Kobe disrespect in real time was mind boggling, even with his flaws.

Shaq was definitely The Guy though, but I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a #2 so close to the #1.

Indy was more balanced, but Philly and the Nets were pure matchups. It made NO SENSE not to go through Shaq. But the Spurs were a serious problem, one that Kobe was able to solve. I'll leave the Kings (stopcryingkingsfans!) out of it because seriously that was all hands on deck but the fact that Kobe was getting his shit off from ages 21-23 was ridiculous.

Out of curiosity - I wanted to see if anyone had multiple MVP runner ups without having won an MVP. Joel Embiid is the only person who now has 2 second place finishes without having won, but of the other runners up who haven't/never won an MVP in the modern(ish) era - those people are:

Kawhi Leonard
Clyde Drexler
Jason Kidd
Dwight Howard
Chris Paul
Alonzo Mourning

Just saying - that's pretty elite company.

indeed, another reason Dwight not making top 75 was a joke, he was top 5 in MVP voting 4 years straight, in addition to winning DPOY 3 times, its crazy that AD made it over him. Dwight have the career AD was supposed to have.

Alot of that has to do with how the nba has changed in the last 10 years obviously.

Comparing him to AD though, they have the same amount of ASG appearances and ADs best seasons are better than Dwights

But yeah, just looking at his career numbers, falling of in ya 20s is a bit different than falling off in your 30s

isn't AD in his 20's? as a Laker fan I would love for him to have more AS/All NBA appearances, champions, DPOY's, MVP's, etc., but it doesn't look like its in the cards

But NO QUESTION Dwight should be there. His resume murders Lillards - it's not even close. But because Dame hit some buzzer beaters he made it over him. Joke.

Honestly the two dudes there was an argument against (at least of the new crop) was AD and Lillard...but again, AD's resume >>> Lillards by a good margin.

Jimmy Butler finals against the lakers >>>> Harden against the Warriors

He played without the team’s second and third option. Bam and Dragic were
severely injured. He took the Lakers to 6 games. He averaged 26/8/9, and had
one of the greatest finals performances in NBA history.

Harden’s numbers always regress in the POs compared to his regular
season totals and he has never led a team to the finals.

Jimmy’s game goes to superstar level in the POs.

Jimmy takes over games. Harden doesn’t.

best players on the team, because they were severely injured.
He dropped a 40 point triple double in that series, and he had similar
performances during this PO run.

Keep in mind during that triple double, he shot 70 percent
from the field.

Jimmy has five 40 point PO games with 60pct shooting from the field.

He has the most 40/5/5 PO games in Heat history...that’s more than Lebron
and Wade.

Harden has never touched that type of PO success in his career,
and never will.

Jimmy just has a serious knee injury right now, but Harden ain’t
even in the same galaxy as Jimmy Butler as an all around player....

and did Harden ever get to the finals?

41 points, nine rebounds, five assists, four steals and three blocked shots -- numbers never seen before in an NBA playoff game since 1974

You do know what all around means, right? ALL AROUND. That’s why I posted
those numbers. You posting singular stats.....where are the dimes, the rebounds, the
steals, the blocks? Harden has never had that type of PO success.

Harden ain’t in Jimmys universe....because Harden doesn’t play defense
and has zero all defensive teams.

And did Jimmy not send his ass home this PO season?

One player is fat and underachieves...the other is an elite 2-way Star.

Butler was averaging 28pts, 5 assists, two steals on 50 percent
shooting during the POs. The only other player to do that during the
POs was JORDAN.

Jimmys cut from that Jordan cloth.

Fatman Harden is cut from chitterlings.

Jimmy is a great player and I'm not even a Harden Stan... you're just wrong.

Literally the only stats that Jimmy has career better numbers are
+.1 in steals, yep, that's right, your other worldly all around Jimmy Butler averages .1 steal more per game
and his FG% is better because doesn't take 3pt shots.

Literally every other stat
Assists, rebounds, etc...
Harden >>>

This is where I leave you.

what your lies BS talk.

I repeat jimmy and Jordan are the only players in PO history to average
28pts, 5 assists, 2 steals, while shooting 50 percent from the field.

Those are facts!

Harden ain’t cut from that cloth.

Address that!

Also Harden never led his team to the finals. Jimmy led his teams to the finals!

Jimmy Butler is the third player in NBA history to have a 40 point
triple double in the finals....Harden isn’t part of that history.

Harden isn’t part of any finals history!

So again, LISTEN, harden hasn’t come near the PO success of Jimmy Butler

FACTS....

So what other BS do you have to spew?

Also, Jimmy Butler is the only player to ever do this...41 points, nine rebounds, five assists, four steals and three blocks....no other player in history has done that.

Dude, just sit down...really. Harden isn’t in Jimmy’s Galaxy as an elite 2 way
player.

Good. Glad that you know it, which means you know that Harden doesn’t have it.

The other player to do it?

Jordan!
