he came to give a speech at my school.

my roomate and i got backstage passes to meet him afterwards.

we did the autograph thing, and then were just small-talking him, when the following took place:

me: so what are you doing with your free time these days?
jim: i play alot of golf. i started playing towards the end of my career, and now i play a couple of times a week.
roomate: oh really? what's your handicap?
jim: *deadpan* i only have one hand.

no human being on earth has ever said anything funnier.

It's not like I pulled a "get off my dick nigga and tell yo bitch to come here"

In the case with Chauncey, He spoke to me first, hell I walked right past him as if he was an average dude when I walked into the car wash to pay my bill. As I was doing that he walked right up toward me and said what up....

Part of the reason could have been that we were out in the burbs and black folks are few and far between but when I saw him the first time I still walked past him and his wife.

After we talked for a min I drove off and threw my hands up. Didn't ask him for a thing... But I did tell folks later on that day

LOL!

Same thing with George Blaha at the same car wash earlier in the summer

McDyess came up to my job for autographs, so I got one for my nephew and kicked with him for a min.

Lebron was with us at a Party to re name the Gund Arena to Quicken Loans Arena so that is self explanatory.

Im cool with Jerome Bettis's brother also so might get a chance to kick with the Bus too for a hot min. I just cant ever seem to make it to the parties he and his brother have been throwing lately in the D

I was a sophomore in high school and he came to talk and hang out with all the kids. He talked about how life was in CT and just basically shot the breeze. I know it was a long time ago, but no matter what media folk say about him bein a slob and goin to tittie bars, the time I met he was cool as shit.

met sean taylor at a gas station a few months back (near redskins park). he was driving a sweet ass silver 750 bmw. i was kinda apprehensive about askin for his autograph because he looked mean as hell. he kindly gave me his autograph tho and asked me where i was headed to...

my friend is good friends with j. azumah so, she invited him to this fashion event and i got to meet him. he seemed very cocky and arrogant, has a huge ass neck, and i heard that he treats his girl (who i also met) like shit.

met oj simpson on howard's campus RIGHT after he was found not guilty. asked for his autograph on my dollar bill, he laughed and asked could he keep the dollar because he was broke. i said "no."

Then, there's my cousin Ahmad Carroll on the Packers who's introduced me to Brett Favre and Donald Driver. Wayne Turner who went semi-pro in the NBA, but he couldn't make the cut for the Celtics. Andre Tippett, Manny Ramirez, Dave Cowens, ML Carr, Junior Borough (wasn't in the NBA long), Pedro Martinez, Roger Clemens, Sherman Douglas, Joe Johnson & Josh Smith of the Hawks, Dwight Howard, Rick Fox, Dominique Wilkins, David Wesley, Tommy Heihson (see this fool at the Legends clubhouse after a Celtics game- WILD OL DIRTY MAN).

In response to Reply # 0

Me and this girl dated for a long time, back when Kenny was still in college, and I'd tell her all the time she fucked up shooting him down back at that Titanic screening in the 7th grade, getting stuck with me instead. She had some funny stories about him and his family.

One time we were at her parent's house with a friend of ours and Kenny's mom came over and they were chit-chatting about how the kids were doing. She was like "Kid A is doing this, Kid B is doing that, and Kenny is getting ready for the draft." This is right around when the Iraq war was starting, too (this is important context), and our visiting hippy friend said all shocked and concerned, "There's going to be a draft?!?" And we had to tell her, nah, don't worry, the NFL draft.

Otherwise I met scrubs. Mark Wilson, who plays T for the Redskins, was neighbors with another buddy. I was there over Thanksgiving and my buddy, all of 5'8" and 140 lbs, got real drunk and challenged Mark to an arm-wrestling contest. It was funny shit. The other kid I know is Jordan Beck, just got drafted in the 3rd round by the Falcons but couldn't play last year due to injury. I'm good friends with the Beck family and I like that kid a lot. You ATL fans better support that motherfucker.

so i've done photo shoots with:

Donovan McNabb (cool, didn't say much, came dressed in a jersey and slacks, it looked weird on the cover)
Peyton Manning (he's as OCD as you'd expect, was telling the photographer what to do and shit, no audibles though)
Ladainian Tomlinson (our photographer fucked up but LT didn't care, he was patient about it)
Jerry Rice (nice to the kids, cold to everyone else)
Ricky Williams (back when he was good)
Priest Holmes (great guy)
Michael Strahan (hilarious)
Brett Farve (really down to earth, we had to move benches around and set stuff up and he was there carrying things back and forth with the rest of us)
Jeff Garcia (nice, didn't seem nearly as gay as everyone thinks he is)
Ben Roethlisberger (nice guy)

I was at the Wynn, and we were leaving and there stands Tay with 2 friends by the door. There's no NOT recognizing him, he's a...unique...looking dude. Anyway me, my girlfriend, and her bro walk out the door right past the dude and he and I look at each other and say, "That was Tayshaun Prince right?" So we both go back in just to say whassap, not to be a bother to him or anything....so we walk back in and he says, "Tayshaun Prince, right?" And he doesn't even LOOK at us, just says, "Naw man." and had the "Don't bother me" look on his face.

Understandable I guess, it was like a week after the finals last year.

In response to Reply # 0

This is 100% true, isn't regarding me, but an old supervisor of mine at work.

This was about a year after the whole trial and thing went down.

This is at the LA County Fair which takes place every year ni Pomona, California. She's all drunk and running around, and accidentally bumps into OJ Simpson who was there with his children. She says "oh my god, please don't kill me" and runs off. And yes, she's white and blonde. I told her it was a terrible thing to say to someone in front of their kids but I'm pretty sure OJ catches shit like this all the time.

league now anyway so fuck it. Lets just say he's cut from the same cloth as his fellow Tampa homies Darryl Strawberry and Doc Gooden and it has nothing to do with anything on the field.

There's this one local gentleman's club that he liked to visit whenever he was in town and after hanging out a while he usually alway got something "to go" while he was booking that he would also be asking around where he could cop some blow. The first time he asking be about that shit I was like "WTF?" I had players ask me where they could get some weed before but that was the first time somebody had ever asked me about coke.

I didn't help him but I just used to tell him to be careful. I used always worry that I was going to pick up the paper the next morning and read about him being robbed or killed.

When I saw Tyson I was like "damn, he just signed that 60 million dollar deal" He's actually one of my favorite players in the NBA but I didn't wanna bother him.

Damon Jones, Paul Pierce, Dirk all in Vegas. Damon was playign blackjack, like 3 weeks after Heat got beat by Pistons last year. Mark Cuban was there too with Dirk at club Pure, wearing dirty ass jeans haha.. Chris Webber who I heckled and talked shit to.

oh yeah, Tracey Murray and Chauncy Billups in a club in LA. Murray was out of the league and was wearing this Spurs jersey... Chauncey seems him and they hug.. then my boy starts talking to Chauncey, and I'm like, "fuck this, you don't even like the Pistons" and Chauncey kinda laughs...little did I know, months later the Pistons would break my heart and beat the Lakers in the finals...

I was right behind Avery Johnson in line for a ride at Sea World (San Diego) for like an hour. I didn't even talk to him, guy was constantly on the phone. I just didn't wanna bother, the guy is just trying to be with his family. Guy was small. This was right after he left the Spurs... Funny thing was later that night when I went to watch the Shamu show, he was sitting right behind me.

Also, a shitload of fighters from the UFC and shit like that. Trained with many...

Oh, remember the movie Youngblood? The hockey movie. Ran into the coach from that movie once. haha. that dont count, but i loved that movie

52. "Recently named hall of famer Charles Barkley"
In response to Reply # 0

My best friend used to work at this little neighborhood spot in Narberth called Giuliani's. It was a favorite of Charles - and anytime he ate there he was guaranteed to be sitting at the bar having a beer after dinner, bullshitting with the bartender. The place closed around 10, so I'd be there to pick up my buddy -- they knew me so I could sit at the bar (I was about 16). Anyway, a bunch of times I sat at the bar with Charles. I never said much - after all, he was my childhood hero and to this day my favorite basketball player of all time. But Charles would always say hi, ask what I was doing, and get the bartender to bring me a soda or something on his tab. He's one of the most genuine and funny people you'd ever want to meet and he was never too big for the regular guy.

60. "mostly ex-Sacramento Kings"
In response to Reply # 0

Growing up, my neighbor down the street handled a deal of the real estate sales for some of the new and leaving Kings player. She would have a Christmas party every year, and a couple would stop by. I have a picture of me in the usual 7-year old's Christmas sweater, all of 4 feet or something, red eyes, standing next to / below a 6''9 Wayman Tisdale.

Walt Williams, Michael Smith and Yogi Stewart were other guests down the years.

When Michael Smith got traded from the team, I drove over in his car--first time I ever saw a TV inside a ride--with my neighbor to pick up a bunch of his suits at his house to send him.

Yogi, in his one year here, hooked me up with a tickets to all the King's home games and a tunnel pass. That meant that every halftime, my little middle school self would get to walk "backstage", to what was essentially the wife's area, for some dinner. Good ass chicken. And Yogi was going out with this one beautiful woman at the time, worked at Vibe, I think, so she was my usually in the seat next to me. Free tickets, free food, attractive woman, yup, I was a fan.

Eddie Pickney had lunch at my house once, but I'm not exactly sure why. lol One day I came home from school and he was just in my backyard having a sandwich or something. My dad was a Celtics fan, so I think that was that deal.

Where I first lived, KJ had a house about two blocks over. Well, his grandma supposedly lived there. I never saw anyone go in or out actually. Hmm . . . ha . . . We'd try to leave cards under the door for him to sign, but he had a gate, which was really out of place given the area, so you really couldn't get that close. And there was a court in the park right across the street that I'd hear people say he'd show up at randomly back in the days, but that was just rumors to me.

And then Mr. Olivier Michael Saint-Jean, er Tariq Abdul-Wahad, lived near my my best friend's house, but I never saw dude. Wasn't mad about that.

Unfortunately, we moved and my connection died right around the time the Kings started getting good.

78. "A bunch, but the most memorable was dinner with Jose Rijo"
In response to Reply # 0

Long story short...

Fiance's brother is a groundskeeper for the Reds. End of the season, Rijo takes the groundscrew out for dinner and drinks at a real swany hotel lounge. Her brother was in a car accident that day, and his car was fucked up, so he asked if I could drop him off. I said sure. Pick him up, take him over, drop him off. He leaves his celly in my ride, and he needed it to call me later to pick him up. I didn't want to go in, but I needed to give him his phone back. Parked the ride in the pull up area of the hotel real quick and ran in. FOund them and slipped him his cell, and I was on my way out when I heard this Dominican dude yell "HEY - wer doo yoo tink yer going?" It was Jose, and he thought I was part of the groundscrew for a quick second. Doug (fiance's brother) explained the situation real quick, and Jose told me to sit. He wouldn't let me leave. I tried to just have a beer, he ordered me a monster steak and kept feeding me drinks. Awesome guy, so down to earth, just made me think so much of him by what he was talking about. He was taking some of the old equipment (cages and stuff) from Riverfront/Cinergy back to the island with him for his youth baseball program. Awesome guy, great heart, horrible english. When he'd get really excited, he'd start slipping into hi-speed spanglish and I couldn't keep up.

Athlete's really are just regular people. Rich people that play for a living. Some of them go a little bit above and beyond and do good, and some don't. Just like regular people.

Jose Rijo, besides being the GOAT of the 1990 World Series, was one hell of a cool cat, and a very gracious individual.

Shaq: His B'Day parties here are huge (he didnt have one this year though)

The entire 2001-2002 Braves team: because I owned lower level season tickets

Charles Barkley while he was at Auburn

Frank Thomas while he was at Auburn

Peter Tom Willis: I played againt him in HS in football & basketball and over the summer he came to our HS to shoot ball (the only white kid I knew who could dunk ON someone in a game). He went on to play QB at FSU (shouldve played basketball) and played 3 years QB with the Chicago Bears.I still know his family well

This had to been about 6-7 years ago. They used to be regulars at the hairdresser I used to go. There was a guy who had a barber seat set up in the shop, so a lot of neighborhood guys go there to get their hair cut. Well so did Ty Law and Lawyer Milloy. They would be in there all the time hanging out. Very nice guys.

Ran into Tyson Chandler at a mall...woodfield I think
Dude is tall as shit...skinny as hell

I got on the tower of terror at Disney World with Cuttino Mobley the summer '04. He had some BAD chick with him...I was trying not to stare cuz I was with wifey but DAMN!!

I played ball against (and beat) Darius Miles when he was in middle school (I was 19 he was 14-15 at the time).

I was at the premier of "Jordan to the Max" when they had the screening at Navy Pier and I was about 5-10 feet away from Jordan, his wife and Amad Rashad (sp?).

I was Jewel in college and Kerry Wood walks in with 2 girls and a guy friend. This was like his rookie season and earlier that night the Braves had swept them out of the playoffs in '98. They got like a 24 case a beer, he seemed down and the girls seemed hell bent on cheering him up. Me and my guy spoke...but frankly I didn't give a fuck cuz I hate that team.

I was in middle school and despised (still do) UK. Still got Travis Ford's autograph, then promptly threw it on the ground.
Sat next to Kenny Walker at a UK/U of L game. He told me about getting into a car accident earlier in the day.
Met Denny Crum while working at ESPN Radio. He had on a red track suit. Looked like Paulie Walnuts sans wings.

My brother has met a slew of sports celebs. Jeter, the entire Gonzaga bball team, Macho Man (I think) some Dookie out in Utah 6 years ago. He has a knack for meeting and conversing with famous people. I think he made fun of Patrick Swayze's movie "Black Dog" once.

I used to work out a Lee Haney's Animal Kingdom and at the Obake Fight School.

Obake FS was co-owned by Bill Goldberg and MMA coach Tim Cataflo, so a ton a pro-wrestlers and MMA guys would come through and train.

Lee Haneys'a attracted a ton of celebs. I've worked out with Haney; Carl Lewis; Mr. O , Ronnie Coleman; Jamal Anderson; 'Nique and a few others. I met Holyfield there, Hulk Hogan & Vince McMahon (they were training together), Tiny Lister (Deebo).

It was his rookie year and my friends dad had gotten some great seats from his boss that night at the forum, turns out they had one extra so he called me up. They let us in the tunnel area after the game because his dad's company was close with the laker organization, and I saw Kobe, and said my hellos to him, and told him to keep doing his thing.

I also saw Big Shot Robert at Burbank airport the summer after our 2nd ring. I didnt wanna say anything because I realized how many cats had already bugged him and he prob just wanted to get back to texas and his family. He was wearking purple jeans though, as ive always said: Its Robert's world, and we are just living in it.

garnett was cool. i met him at the nike summer all star camp. my dad is a chicago tribune sports journalist and he was covering the camp. garnett was in the stands with a bunch of kids surrounding him just joking around. i went up and asked for an autograph (i was probably in middle school or a freshman in high school). he starting quizzing me on where he was from, what his height was, just messing around. i knew the answers cuz i was looking at the roster and bios the media gets. he was surprised i knew, cracked a few jokes and gave me an autograph.

met juwan in high school several times. my dad did multiple stories on him. also met cliff floyd as a senior in hs before a cubs game. he was being honored as an hs athlete of the year by the tribune.
