Give thanks to Theo, the Trio and the best front office in Major League Baseball.

Give thanks to John Harrington and the Yawkey Trust for selling this team. If in fact there was a curse, that was the day it died.

Give thanks to the Minnesota Twins for believing that David Ortiz wasn't worth holding on to.

Give thanks to Gary Sheffield for some of the best bulletin board material ever. Yes, we are a walking disaster.

And give a special thanks to all of the non-believers. We'll be waiting for you next season.

My Dad said grace, and he thanked God for our health, the meal and the Sox. The Sox part was his most enthusiastic.

And my neighbor let us borrow the DVD the other night. I figured I wanted to go to bed with happy dreams, so I put that on as I went to bed. When it ended, I put another DVD in and finally got some sleep.

There is nothing better than waking up every day, seeing the World Series Champions hat on my bedpost, and realizing it's another days where our Red Sox are the best baseball team in the world.

During the ALCS I was going thru a bit of a tough time, money was tight, my girl was stressing me out, my youngest daughter just got out of the hospital with pnuemonia(sp?), just a really tough time. Thru it all, I found a bit of joy in baseball. The Red Sox helped me thru tough times. I wish I had a recording of the opening night of the World Series at Fenway. It was such an emotional thing to watch, I made my 4 year old (oldest) daughter watch it with me, even tho she really wanted to watch a movie in her room. The tribute to the young lady who lost her life in the ALCS Celebration, Steven Tyler singing and elecric National Anthem, the passion of the crowd, literally brought a tear to my eye. I though about my Dad, who passed away last March, and how he would've loved to have seen all this. When the Sox won, I was happy, but wished he could've witnessed this with me. I'm so proud to be from the Boston area, to have grown up in Wellesley and Sherborn, to be a fan of the greatest sports town in the world, and now that the Sox have been named SI's Sportsmen of the Year, makes it just that much more special.

Here's to you fellow Red Sox fans, and Bostonians worldwide, I can't think of a better place to be right now, I miss Boston.

The company I work for just produced a conference call for Citizens Bank, it basically just a town hall meeting with Terry. I just about lost it when I found out I was going to have a chance to speak to a person directly involved in the Sox World Series. I swear I was so fuckin nervous, I had monster butterflies in my stomach. Such a cool guy, if he doesn't ever manage another win in his career, he's still alright with me. I thought I had his cell number, but its only his agents. A great way to start the day, damn i'm on a high right now.

For me, It's going to feel just as good as this one. Just because we won and the 'curse' is over doesn't the passion for the Red Sox go's away. I'm not any less of a fan, I still want to win again, I still want to destroy the Yankees. I'd honestly like to see the Mets and give them some payback for 86.

>At what point do you
>come to grips with the fact your team isn't the lovable

You can take this Lovable Loser shit and shove it straight up your ass. While I do have a love affair with the Red Sox, there is nothing Loser about them. Sure its been a while since we won a series, but we've been competitive for the most part and we are one of the most storied franchises in baseball. We've produced just as many great players as just about any other team in the game.

I was just using the common perception of them prior to winning this world series. The Red Sox are one of the most storied franchises in sports. I know all about Ted Williams, Fred Lynn, Jim Rice, Wade Boggs, etc. Even as a non Red Sox fan I was happy to see them win. But the point was, despite all those great players of the past, they had not won for almost a century. During this time a mythological aura developed around that franchise. You have had entire generations come and go with this myth intact. It's the only way every living fan of the Red Sox has known before 2004. I'm not saying it's better to not have won. Just saying that their image has changed and in some ways, your generation is the last of a dying breed. For new fans from this point one, being a Red Sox fan won't mean what it did the 8 decades prior.

as fans we have never embraced the whole lovable loser crap that people spout about us, we hate that shit and always have. And 90% of boston fans find nothing more annoying than stupid boston celebrities who go out in the media and become that stupid stereotype of a boston fan who is resigned to losing and all that other crap (I'm looking at you Dennis Leary)

Whats really funny is I can't even muster up 1/16th of the rage about this topic that I used to.......winning cures all....even Dennis Leary is forgiven, I thought he did a decent job on the world series dvd, even if there was too much about the curse on it.

I feel you, watching that pissed me off too, however I'm so happy from winning it just doesn't seem worth hating him anymore, especially since he does so much charity work and all. Any venom I have left after winning is spewed at fakes like jimmy fallon. I mean seriously, fuck jimmy fallon

But y'all went twice as long without a world series title as the Cubs. How are they "losers" and the Sox not? In the end, if you don't have a title at the end of the season, you are in the same boat as every other team. It's titles that make you a winner, not winning seasons. It's cool you got your ring but don't go trying to rewrite history. The so-called curse was a big part of your franchise lore. And the Red Sox always finding a way to lose was a big part of that. That fact they had talented players only made it worse if anything.

The "Curse" was fueled by the media and Yankee fans most Red Sox fans never believed it, I for one never did.

The cubs last won the world sereis in 1908, actually 10 years longer than the sox draught. As for your claim that it is part of the identity of our franchise, its an identity others have thrust upon us. We as red sox fans have always proclaimed that identity to be bullshit, refusing to believe that a "curse" exists and despising the lame sports writer named Dan Shaughnessy who invented the idea of the curse and wrote a book and made a ton of money. Look it up. You'll never find a referense to the curse of the bambino prior to the publishing of shaugnessey's book sometime around 1990. Ask every red sox player, coach, owner, and 90% of the fans and they'll all tell you its an image put on the franchise by outsiders, not one embraced by those who actually identify with the franchise......

not sure who it was but a Boston sports writer (might have been Shaughnessy, once again I don't know) noticed all the strange misfortunes that have happened to the Red Sox since the sale of the Bambino and concluded that the team must have been cursed because of that sale right after the '86 World Series.

and you are right, I do believe he made some references to the idea in columns before he actually went through the trouble of publishing a full length book about it, but it wasn't until he published the book, sometime around '90 that the term became part of the national conciousness involving the red sox.

but the thing is, we didn't really grow up with a lovable loser team, so much as a hard-luck loser team that was generally pretty good, but not good enough to get over the hump. So I think the fans, myself included, would adjust without too much difficulty. I mean, for the hardest of the hardcore, it'll be tough to deal with the bandwagon fans that a move to being a perennial contender brings, but though it would annoy me, to have my team seriously contending year in and year out is well worth it.

It does a nice job of giving a recap of the entire season which the MLB DVD does not do.

The narrator is kind of weak and there's too much Tom Werener for me. But overall it's very good.

I got mine at Virgin megastore. I'd assume they have them at area Best Buys and most places where videos are sold.

Or you can just shop here:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0006J28IC/qid=1102381386/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl74/002-1131580-9205624?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846

Yeah, as far as I know this is the Sox DVD. With the team owning NESN and all I don't see why there would be two different DVDs.

I'm not gonna really go out on a limb here on any of these. The way I see it it's pretty cut and dry as far as who will be back and who wont.

Cabrera - No (They'll go for a cheaper, shorter contract. Who, I have no clue)
Lowe - No
Pedro - Yes
Williamson - No
McCarty - No
Mendoza - No
Varitek - Yes
Reese - Yes (though this may be wishful thinking, he wants to go somewhere he'll play every day a short)
Myers - Yes

In response to Reply # 0
Mon Dec-06-04 04:22 PM

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/thebuzz/
From Boston.com:

The Red Sox are apparently exploring adding a player from the Japanese league to their roster. According to Japanese web site Japan Today, the agent for Japanese free-agent second baseman Tadahito Iguchi is scheduled to meet with Sox GM Theo Epstein about a possible deal. The Yankees are reportedly interested in Iguchi as well. The 30-year-old Iguchi has played with the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks since 1997, accumulating a .271 career batting average with 159 stolen bases and 149 homers. He's known as a speedster in Japan, having won two stolen base titles with 42 swipes in 2003 and 44 in 2001. He hit .333 with 24 homers and 89 RBIs in 124 games in 2004, and .340 with 27 homers and 109 RBIs in 135 games in 2003. It's not known how serious the Sox are about acquiring Iguchi. However, it should be noted that while he's now primarily a second baseman, he did play 366 games at shortstop from 1997-2000, making just 36 errors. It's well known the Red Sox are shopping for a shortstop. According to an ESPN.com scouting report, "his fielding would be above average. However, he has been playing on artificial turf. He could struggle on natural grass, just like Kaz Matsui did with the Mets. He has some power, but he will mainly be the type of player who hits between the gaps. He cares about on-base percentage (his OBP for 2003 season was .438) more than hits and home runs, so he could transfer from the middle of the lineup to the leadoff spot.

Johnny leads off quite well. We DO need a good #2 hitter though. Nothing against Bellhorn - but he's not ideal.

I like Cabrera, though.

I'd love to see him back, but it looks like the chances of that happening are almost zero. Hes lookin for a 4-5 year deal (as he should his value will never be higher than it is right now) with us having hanley ramirez on track for 2006 there is no way the sox will make that deal. Right now I'm hoping for something much more realistic which is signing pokey to play short for maybe a 2-3 year deal. The only problem with that is he is injury prone, and I'm not sure what they'd do as insurance. That japanese kid hasn't played short in a few years, he is still an intriguing option though.

are now on sale for 10 bucks at mlb.com. Originally I was dead set against the idea of these stupid membership cards, because why the fuck would I pay anyone 10 bucks to be an official member of something I've been a part of my whole life......However they changed the way they are doing it so I joined. The new deal is if you join for 10 bucks you get mlb gameday audio included with your membership for free (this usually costs 15 bucks and I buy it every year so right away by joining the club i saved 5 bucks) plus they are promising discounts on merchandise (no big deal) and advance access to purchase tickets (huge deal if its actually true) So while I initially swore I'd never buy one of these stupid things I've bought one anyways.........oh well

it was so irritating. Who the hell wants to hear the Devil Rays announcers? Just another reason why Baseball is so well-run, they know how to give the fans what they want.

Hopefully this year it reverts back to how it was the first half of the year though.

I never hated him when he was with the Yankees but I'm not really a Wells fan. I do think this is a good signing though. 8 million for two years when he's performed pretty well in his old age makes him a good replacement for Derek Lowe. There's also another 10 million for performance incentives that I'm not too crazy about but I think this was a good idea. Comments?

and I've said it all along. Granted he gets more rest than Varitek, but he performs significantly better than Tek in the games he plays. Compare their stats with the amount that they both make and I wouldn't mind seeing him start for the Sox. I love Tek but I'm not sure he's worth the money, especially given the fact that he can't catch Wakefield

I love Dougie, but he's never proved in his career that he can be a 120 game starting catcher. While he's good, no doubt, and probably trhe best backup in MLB, I think he's also got a graet situation, in that his flaws are not as exposed. I don't feel like he can put up the same production in a full-time role. It's sorta the way I feel about Gabe Kapler--graet depth guy, good bench guy, fill-in starter, but a problem if he's starting the whole season. Tek is still the leader of the team, and a great deefnsive catcher and game-caller, plus a better overall hitter than Dougie.

In response to Reply # 82

I think Mirabelli may be more valuable. I know he won't keep those numbers up, but Tek's numbers aren't that great, he's getting paid 10-11 million a year (in his next contract), and he doesn't play once every 5 games, someone making that money should be playing every day. Mirabelli will be making 1.5 million next year and I'd argue that he could put up Varitek numbers in categories like RBIs, homers, and others. That would give us 10-11 million dollars to sign someone else. I love Varitek, and yes he's the leader of this team, but I'm still not sure he's worth all that money, especially 4-5 years from now.

I dunno either. I don't want the Sox to go any higher than 4 years/$36 million for Tek (and honestly, a good $12 million and one year of that is just sentiment).

If some team is foolish enough to offer him more than that, the Sox would be really foolish to match it, better to spend the money on someone to split time with Mirabelli.

This would be amazing. Four year deal. Renteria can play short for the next 2-3 years and then maybe move over to third for Hanley Ramiriez. Or just put Hanley at 2B for a year.

People seem to think Renteria's 2004 was an outlier due to a back injury that caused one genuinely horrendous month in May. Somewhere in the middle of his .874 2003 and his .805 2002 should be expected for 2005. Cabrera's only touched that level of offense during his freakish 2003 and he's not as good in the field.

Cabrera was the best available at the trade deadline. But he's a free swinger and not someone you want to throw 8-9 million at. Until he got to Boston, his OBP in 2004 for Montreal was .298. That's very poor. Andafter it was .320, also poor. A lot people feel emotionally attached to the guy but Theo made the right move for a multi skilled ball players in Renteria with a high baseball IQ. He can do everything right, says Jerry Remy, and that I htink is the key to the signing.

They were carrying shit out people's houses.
They took a toddler! The mom is cryin and the dad is saying "honey, honey, fair's fair. Go Sox!"

I dunno if I want Clement at this point. I think I might rather see if we can get Burnett from the Marlins for just Hanley (or see how much the Brewers want for Sheets. Though they probably won't want to trade him until a couple months have gone by and they fall out of the race).

Or honestly, maybe just hold off, see if we can bring Lowe back for a year for decent money, and make a serious run at Hudson/Sheets/whoever next year. I liked Clement a lot better before, when he was kind of a sleeper free agent. Not when he's the premier pitcher left.

the book by Stephen King and Stewart O'Nan.

It's true, the story of the 2004 Sox does conclude with them winning the Series, no trick endings this time.

Now on to 2005......

A look at the 25 man roster:

1. Johnny Damon CF
2. Edgard Renteria SS
3. Manny Ramirez LF
4. David Ortiz DH
5. Jason Varitek C
6. Kevin Millar/ Doug Mientkiewicz 1B (though if it's Doug he likely hits 7th or 8th)
7. Trot Nixon RF
8. Bill Mueller 3B
9. Mark Bellhorn 2B

Bench:
Doug Mirabelli C
Ramon Vazquez INF (backup at 2B and SS)
Kevin Youkilis INF (backup at 1B and 3B)
Jay Payton OF
Adam Stern/David McCarty/someone who is acquired for Millar or Mientkiewicz

Starting Rotation:
Curt Schilling
David Wells
Matt Clement
Tim Wakefield
Wade Miller/Bronson Arroyo

Bullpen:
Wade Miller/Bronson Arroyo
John Halama
Mike Timlin
Alan Embree
Matt Mantei
Keith Foulke

They're missing some speed on the bench and a left handed reliever who is tough on lefties but that's a very solid looking squad.

All that remains now is dealing Millar or Mientkiewicz, probably for a pospect, and trying to unload Kim. I don't see any more major moves, talk of Manny to the Mets can't be true. Can it?

I am thrilled with the Sox off season. Seeing Pedro, Cabrera, and Pokey go was a bummer. However, 1-9 they will be stronger in 2005 than they were in 2004. In addition, their rotation has an outside shot at being more consistent than the one that lead them to the Series victory (Arroyo started 2-7, Lowe was bad, Wake was up and down more than usual). The Roberts trade was perfect, the Miller signing is an excellent gamble (not even a gamble really considering the money they're giving him) and the additions of Halama and Mantei should allow them to have more than just Timlin and Embree to rely on in 6th, 7th, and 8th. Upgrading at shortstop with a potent and patient bat will give the Sox lineup a perfect number two hitter, not to mention a Varitek-type presence in the clubhouse. I am a little nervous about Clement, we'll just have to wait and see. I wasn't excited about the Wells signing at the time but he'll be steady and the benefit of having a lefty starter to face the Yanks in the Bronx can't be understated. Another year of 95-98 wins and the Wild Card is what I think we're looking at.

maybe with Doug M. if they don't get Delgado. Aaron Heilman in return maybe and another prospect. Basically, if Theo has to pay most of the contract, he wants prospects back. If not, then he will keep Kim.

It was pretty good, but a little too long.

I doubt if Miller's healthy for opening day, and I'd really like to see Arroyo in the rotation. Between Wells, Schilling, and Miller's arm troubles, Arroyo should be able to get a fair number of starts in, though he's probably the odd man out when everyone's healthy. Really though, Wakefield probably should be.

I was worried about Clement, now I think he'll be pretty solid, especially with Varitek back.

Lefty relievers can be picked up during the year. Hopefully we get a decent deal for Mientkiewicz/Millar. But yeah, I really like the way Theo's handled the offseason, Varitek was essential, so even though we overpaid a bit, that's good, and we didn't overpay for anyone else. Losing out on Pavano is a shame, but Clement's got the arm to be even better, and Wells is a savvy vet, he knows how to pitch in the stadium. And I really, really like the Miller signing.

Wore my Tito sweatshirt and watched the Wire (played a little NCAA 2005, and Fifa 2005 too). As I left my room to go to work, I just saw the World Series Champion 2004 Hat, and I thought...yeah, we are.

I like being able to think and say that.

its great to know that the WS victory is now bookended with pats championships.....damn its a good time to live in boston. When that anchored post is eventually allowed to drop someone needs to start a patriots have won the superbowl thread that can be cherished and upped all through the offseason much like this one has.

with a prime time start

is like blowing your load before you take your dick out your pants.

idiots are too excited for that sort of thing. at first I was disapointed they'd be playing on opening day, but not now - since it'll be great to see the fans get all over Giambi, A-Rod, Jeter, etc...and the Sox hoist the World Series flag.

but spring training? I'll be trying NOT to watch. and dickheads that get excited over it should kill themselves. I'll be watching the college ball.

I have people trying to talk to me about games in spring training. Usually I just tell em, I see what players are doin, but I don't give a fuck because hockey's on. This year, I can say that with college hockey, but I'll still find shit else to talk about. There's nothing worse than people acting like spring training matters for the big guys.

All I will care about is whether Mantei and Miller are healthy, and how the new guys are fitting in. Everything else isn't important, basically.

But goddamn, Opening Day is gonna be wild man. And then the home opener. I'll be calling in sick for those fuckers.

For it is in our nature to be creatures whom desire nothing but absolute control, and will not rest until this absolute demand is appeased. For, this is the sole basis of our existence since the beginning of man kind. The exploitation of the powerful over the weak and vulnerable. Bridging, for most, is not an option, sadly, even as a desperate measure, where ultimately, the better off we shall all be because of this communion.

199. "Derek Lowe in LA"
In response to Reply # 195

I swing back and forth on this one. I think he has a very good chance for success out there. If hes motivated by the sox ditching him and really commits to baseball he could do some serious damage in NL. Additionally since he isin't in Boston where he knew everyone and knew the city very well he may not party as much which will help him focus and excel.

On the flipside being in LA which has about 20 times the nightlife and distraction that boston has could be a disaster for his career. Almost every young person who has lived in boston for 5 or more years has a story about the time they saw Derek Lowe out in town completely hammered with a girl who wasn't his wife all over him on a friday night with a girl all over him (never his wife) with a game coming up on saturday (this holds true back when he was a reliever and could be called upon to pitch on any given day) Shit my boy almost fought him one night when he was out partying after he blew a save with a day game the next day until Troy O'Leary stepped in and set my boy straight.

Now in LA he'll have a lot more options for trouble to get into, and the bars don't close at 2am if I'm correct. I still wish him the best though. He put together 2 of the most memorable postseason pitching performances of my life, and I'll always have fond memories of that.

I got two tickets in infield grandstands. Today they had a limited sale for people who signed up for red sox nation (initially i kind of regretted buying a membership, but now its more worth it than ever) Now I'm very conflicted......I'm so poor right now that I literally eat peanut butter on bread for dinner 7 nights a week I know that I can get 500 dollars per ticket for these. Do I sell them? or do I keep them? AAAAAAARRRRRRGGHHHH what to do

Think of it this way, you could stash away some cash, treat yourself to some good meals, and then in the summer go to a dozen or so games with the money you'll be making from selling these tickets. I say unload them. Opening Day is is but 1 of 162.

I'm real proud of the group effort to keep this post alive.

Also, hearing Troup and Castiglione on the radio...is magnificent. No offense to Orscillo, but them two guys are the best. I can't imagine a better duo.

what do y'all think the Sox should do w/ this kid?

I've seen him a few times this spring and he's very impressive (yeah, yeah I know it's only spring training...but still)

his trade value is extremely high right now, but I'd hate to see the team part w/ him.
obviously w/ Rent at short he's got no future there, so I'd like to see the team try him at some other positions before the spring is over (mostly 2nd or CF since this is most likely Damon's last season in Boston)

that triple play was insane by the way.....I think we should keep him, if we can't resign damon this year he seems like hed be a natural fit in center.....I highly doubt his trade value would diminish over the course of another year, so I hope we hold onto him.

He's been so heralded, he can field, hit with some power, he's got the look to be a great SS, very marketable. I'd hate to see him come up thru our farm and go on to be one of the top SS in the game. If we could trade him to Milwaukee for Sheets i'd feel a little better. I hope we keep him tho.

I'd like to see him try to make the move to second base. For now you've got Bellhorn but I don't think anyone believes he's a permanet fixture there. There have been an awful lot of middle infield prospects who have attempted to play center (Sadler and Soriano come to mind) but it never seems to work out too well.

If they are to move Ramirez in a deal for a starter (Sheets) they've still got Dustin Pedroia in the system.

It's actually a really great situation they've got with Ramirez right now. No immediate need to bring up quickly, no major whole they need to trade him in order to fill, and another excellent shortstop waiting behind him if he gets dealt or doesn't pan out. So for now they just sit tight.

I feel bad for the prospects that we have because we've basically shut them out recently. Shppach won't get a chance with us with Varitek locked down for 5 years and Ramirez had Nomar and now Renteria in front of him. Youkilis is just waiting to get his chance in a year after Mueller is gone and I can't wait either. It's been awhile since somebody grew up in our farm and really hit it big in the majors (was there anybody after Nomar?).

In response to Reply # 214

It doesnt matter. If he can play short, he can play anywhere. Reminds me of Soriano when he came up with the Yanks as far as switching positions. Pedroia ends up playing 2B. Youkilis can play 1B or will at some point. So if he plays 3B or CF or eventually SS, you save alot of money between the 3. When is the last time the Sox would have 3 position players in the first MLB salary years?

225. "Babe Ruth's *cursed* contract up for auction"
In response to Reply # 0

By Claudia Parsons

NEW YORK (Reuters) - With the 'Curse of the Bambino' laid to rest by World Series champs the Boston Red Sox, the owners of the infamous pieces of paper that inspired it are cashing in.

The 1920 contract selling Babe Ruth from the Red Sox to the New York Yankees for $100,000 is expected to be the top draw at a Sotheby's baseball memorabilia auction in June. Experts predict the document could raise over $500,000, the auction house said on Thursday.

"The sale of Ruth to the Yankees changed the sports world forever," Sotheby's said in a statement, describing the five-page contract as "the most significant document in sports history."

In baseball folklore, die-hard Red Sox fans believe Ruth's sale to the Yankees spawned the curse that haunted the Red Sox. A young Ruth was already a star and had helped the Sox win the 1918 World Series. But with the Yankees he changed the face of the U.S. national pastime and became a legend, fondly nicknamed 'The Bambino.'

The Yanks, who had been lackluster before they got Ruth, went on to become world champions repeatedly. The Red Sox went on to be also-rans for more than eight decades.

Only with last autumn's championship was the curse ended, or so said those who believed it.

The Red Sox won their first World Series since that 1918 championship by sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals, after staging the greatest comeback in baseball postseason history to beat the Yankees for the American League title.

The document is being sold by philanthropist Alan Shawn Feinstein, who said the funds raised would go to his Feinstein Foundation and be used to fight hunger. "The proceeds will feed a tremendous number of people," he said in the same statement.

The auction of more than 350 lots from various sources, including the first baseball thrown at the 1912 opening of the home of the Red Sox, Fenway Park, comes six months after another Sotheby's auction at which the bat Babe Ruth used to hit his first homer at Yankee Stadium sold for $1.265 million.

The June 10th auction in New York has another rare Yankee memento. A pinstriped flannel home jersey worn by Hall of Fame first baseman Lou Gehrig in 1937, one of the few items linked to the Yankee star ever to be sold publicly, will be auctioned.

Among the other highlights of the sale are a baseball signed by Connie Mack, manager of the Philadelphia Athletics for 50 years, several rare baseball cards, a robe worn by heavyweight boxing champion Rocky Marciano, and a tennis racquet owned by Arthur Ashe.

My dad was up in boston so I took him to fenway to take the tour today. I had never taken the tour before it was pretty cool. You get to go in the pressbox the 406 club and the monster seats, none of which I had ever been in before, plus they have a little red sox hall of fame inside which was pretty cool that I had never seen before either. There was a little too much curse talk during the tour, but overall I'd reccomend it if you haven't gone........

"In his trademark freewheeling style, Damon will talk about the team's hijinks on and off the field, how the guys came together as a hairy and rebellious unit that prompted many in the press to compare them to a biker gang, and what the future holds for a franchise that must find a new mission statement for itself and for a team that Damon describes as a "team of idiots who just want to have fun." This book will ship on or around April 4, 2005."

I've got no problem with a player dishing dirt about their personal lives, but when you start taking cheap shots at your ex-wife and saying stuff about your children, that's pretty classless.

however, nobody ever accused Damon of being the classiest individual around anyways

I'm not sure how to gauge my anticipation for the start of the season. It's different from the past though, very different. This year I seem to be excited for the start of baseball rather than specifically for the start of the Sox season. I'm not saying I've lost interest now that they've won so don't take this the wrong way, things are just different.

following the end of the 2003 season, I couldn't wait to start the next season. but you're right, this offseason was different, and in a strange way, I'm not really ready for the season. a lot of us are still glowing from last October

plus I've gotta admit, opening the season in Yankee Stadium is kinda strange. I feel like we've gotta build up to this series, maybe smack around teams like the O's and Rays for a while first.

that said, I am EXTREMELY excited about Sunday night.

I had tears in my eyes again, this time when Johnny Pesky walked out to get his ring and hug everyone.

Then they intro the Yankees and Mo Rivera gets a standing O, I almost pissed myself that was so cool.

Followed by the greatest opening toss ever, Russell, Orr, Bruschi and Seymour.

I'm ready for some fuckin baseball now boys.

when I heard him practicing the other day, i was hoping that wouldn't be on tv.

we all know the player's names, we don't need them repeated to us. And we especially don't need to hear the name ted williams and his nicknames 19 times. Also, it's not Bobby Door, it's Bobby Doerr.

and we just made friends over in GD too, although I understand your pain being a cards fan. Let me just say this your team has had much success in the past and will most likely have much in the future.....this was our one shining moment so don't take our obscene extended celebration personally.

But I've never had a team of mine be a champion while I was a concious follower of the team. The closest I've gotten was the Cards in the Series this year, and the Illini in the NCAA's this year. Both came up short.

This year is looking good for the Cards, though, so I'm not that bitter.
