my name jayare was a nickname given to me by my dad for clarification at family functions, as I have uncles on both sides that have my first name, Randy. My last name is Johnson and though my siblings went by EJ and DJ and such, my father thought RJ just didnt sound right so he took to callin me J.R. I spelled it phonetically for the first program guide my show was listed in when i did college radio, and it is now the name I use in Radio, and in music. My birthday is 214.

As you may have gathered I work in commercail Radio now, as director of production, and part time air talent for a hip hop station in northern california. I produce music, and love writing. I am 7 units away from my bachelors in sociology, but havent had time for school since 97. right now Im 26 (birthdays next week tho....) im from oakland ca. Im mixed, black and white, and raised from poverty hopefully into something else. I live my life, and I write from the perspective that as long as my output is true to who i am, my mission has been accomplished, and I am constantly in pursuit of reality, consciousness and truth.

who i was:

i usta love the way the air smelled on tuedays @ 2:00pm. the school wld sell cotton candy in front and the pieces wld fly off ...pink and blue strings wld look like candy air....and i wld stick my tongue out and try to catch them..usta wish i cld.

i usta make up dance routines w/ my cousins but they wld all learn it faster than me....and sumtimes i forgot a step and ended up off beat..and my momma usta tell me to go clean this up or go get that, even though i was practicing, cause she didn't think i wld get the steps anyways.....but one day i won 5 dollars from my uncle ike at my cousin's birthday party...and that day i was the best one.

i usta have this teacher (in 12 grade) who thought t.s elliot was god and i wasn't a good writer...she told me i wouldn't make it in college, writing the way that i did....last year i mailed my english portfolio from my freshmen and sophmore year...

i usta be beyond levels..until i realized that wasn't my goal in poetry or...in life.
