I saw you on the metro platform in Chinatown one monday afternoon after I got off of work
I said I saw you but you didn't see me you was all cracked up asking people passing by for change
you looked right into my eyes but you didn't see me so translucent is the world to you only dollar bills and white rocks make way to your sykie
I closed my eyes and prayed for you right there on the platform in front of gray and black suites and high heals clicking the saddest song I've ever heard your clothes looked like you've been sleeping in the gutter broken bottles and dirty dipers your pillow lulling you into a deeper hell then the one your living every day
I said I saw you but you didn't see me and these tears and these years have passed like lightning over a distant ocean and aunti you have missed a couple of boats
Grandaddy died cousins got babies hearts have been broken children locked up where have you been?
I am still praying I want angels to come and create a miracle in front of all these people lift you up from haties and make you lie down in green pastures cause if the lord is my shepherd then I shall not want and dosen't that go for Aunties also who've lost their way their children their home their self respect somewhere she stepped off the path
God get her back on lead her besides still waters restore her soul like you said you would didn't you tell me thats what you do isn't that what I learned in Vacation Bible school I mean she didn't see me even though I was bighter than bright in plain view of her sight Lord let this sinner's soul be more than alright My Auntie is walking thru the valley of the shadow of death dowwn here underground in Chinatown Where fearing no evil is not understood
you felt un-noticed nobody was paying attention
That's what happened to you You thought you was alone nobody paying any attention thou art with me just didn't apply to you thy rod and thy staff didn't comfort you Nobody prepared a table before you in the presence of your enemies Nobody anoined you head with oil and your cup overflowed with sadness
You ain't never experience no goodness and mercy this monkey on your back following you all the days of your life this nasty bloodsucking monkey
I saw you standing there asking for change on the metro platform in chinatown you looked right through me but I will never forget to pray that one day you will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever

loved the religious references used in this piece.. i got alot of visuals reading this too.. i saw the homeless lady panhandling through the crowd and came upon you.. i saw you standin' there watchin' her and prayin' like you said in the piece.. i enjoy'd the read.. ______________________________________________ "..Spielberg/ when I spill words on tracks i'm a sick dude, you can't feel worst than that for you slow-minded dudes, i'll reverse it back I got a sick flow, see? ain't no nursin' that.." -Jay Z

That homeless lady was is aunt, very deep piece for me. She is a crack head, and she has aids, we see her on the street from time to time. A release of sorts, scared people would judge at first. After that thought passed, I posted. Thank for the love on that one.

word Dehejia...this was heartfelt...i saw you in a crowded place with your focus pointed towards your sick aunt and all the usual noises were silenced as you prayed and the words of your poem were read by my eyes...this was nice...I'll say a prayer for her too...

somehow "powerful" doesn't seem an adequate description. this poem moved me. very visual. . . fave line(s): "and your cup overflowed / with sadness." keep blessin'. peace.
I really appreciate those words from you, this has been a hard time for me, but the full moon will be high in sky tonight, and I will let its rays wash over my soul. Cleaned I will be from this sadness. Can't wait to see you on thursday.

This was a very deep and moving piece sista. Plight felt on many levels. I dug it, having delt with my fair share of family members with drug addictions. I'll be praying for her and you.

Whew.
I really admire the ability to see through a seemingly ordinary daily event and pic out a greater meaning. Even better to be able to describe it as you've done. Great read.
