I just got in from a venue in Bmore called "Verbatim Mondays" hosted by Rebecca Dupas. The feature was a brother by name Ainsley Burrows, other Poets included Sabrina, Native Son, Temple and Paul Mabon. I can only hope whatever streams through touches the place touched in me.

the truth is I have never been here before

There she is a forty eight year old black woman,
standing over 6' 2" wearing a blonde wig, shoplifting.
Although I've known her for years
she continues to amaze me,
and most people she meets. A psychology student
studying for her doctorate degree
whom meanwhile sells bootleg cd's and dvd's
and swears she is not ghetto.
This woman has the nerve
to believe in her own definitions of integrity
also wants to be the treasurer
of our community center.
The idea itself is insane
yet there is something so believable
about her that she gets voted
in and out of key positions
in every venue she is involved in.
Nevertheless, here am I watching her
from my cash register again,
wondering if I should inform her
that she is under surveillance
and has been identified by store security.
This woman actually has a knack
for capturing attention and somehow
making everything she does
seem practical and just good common sense.
Including, getting food stamps,
grants for gas and electric
and several other related service
usually used for the poor.
All of this yet maintaining a very
upper middle class lifestyle,
she drives a Mercedes (an older model)
owns her home at least 4 bedrooms,
is known to have stocks
yet she steals constanly.
She often rents to borders,
loves Starbucks; having each mug Starbucks
ever produced and placed on the market.
Eccentric? Yes in every aspect of the word.
But how do I tell her
she is about to be arrested?

It's been sixteen years since I wrote this letter. It's June 2008 the Presidential election year that promises to change the face and direction of not only America but the world. Did Barak Obama win? Did he win a second term? What's it like now that the world has seen the fourth term of the new North American government?
As for me has the change been as drastic?
Let's see I can only imagine; by God's grace Alliyah, is 16, Tatyannah 17, and Jalil 17 all grand's do I have any more ?
All my children are grown Michaela 39, Rashiid 37, Omar 35, Ismaeel 25, Khaliif 22, and except Xanthis she aint quite grown at 19 but i bet she is smart and a looker.
And where are Rhoda and Tanekia at 41 and 45?
Technological advances has kept me in great health since the North American Treaty actually made it a Republic or Union hmm?
By now the hater's as we called it might say the world is socialist but it is perhaps better off as for everyday people.
Long old wars of religion have just about ended forever racism sexism and hunger should have been eradicated since media exchanges have allowed people to just about live together without leaving their homes.
Twelve Step programs have reached far into what was once dictatorships and changed the minds of how people coexist.
Remember that perfect dream I had well it was just the other night but remember how everything for me changed from that dream?
I saw the world from a whole different place when I woke up, that's why I am writing this letter cause in that moment I believed and everything changed.
There are reality shows just about to kick off asking people to invent things to be creative to come up with the newest world, changing item. Imagine that one mind that can see past the troubles of our time.
We survived and now because of one thought, one idea, one single purpose we, none of us, are controlled by the fears that at one time had a grip on our minds and in just 16 years are now travelers of the Universe...Devine.
