"I'm proposing at the Common show (SOBs Dec 19th) need h"
Okay here's the deal, I am proposing to my girl, ring and all, at the Common show @ SOBs in NYC on Dec 19th. (our first date was at a Com show) Regardless it'll be one of the most memorable nights of my life, however I would love to get "The Light" dedicated to us and give her the ring at that time. Problem; I can't get a hold of Common, I thought I'd be able to track him down at an in-store in NYC but he isn't anywhere near NY. I have called MCA to no avail, I have met Com a couple times before and it seems like something he might do for a fan. If anyone has any idea how I can make this happen please reply.
I usually post under another name, but for obvious reasons I created a new name for this post. She isn't a big Okayplayer Board reader, but who knows, so better safe than sorry.
the fucked up part is that I was standing about 3 feet from Common at the Roots show at SOBs a couple weeks back, but since my girl was with me I couldn't holler at him. Anyway like I said it'll all be good without the shout out, but it would be great if I could make it happen, so if any of you can help a fellow okayplayer out, please do so. peace and thanks.

If your girl knows she's going to the show and she reads this post and you're talking about how your first date was a Common show you think she might just figure this out? Not tryin to hate just tryin to make sure you realize you could get called out. And I'd hate to see that happen.

Again i appreciate all the help, the "y'all is Black?" ish is pretty funny, half of us is black, I'm Irish (grew up in Flatbush, Brooklyn, got Malcolm X and the Black Panther Party logo tattooed on my arm so my friends tell me that make me "honorary" however (and at many times I sadly must admit) I'm white. She is Hatian/American, a fine professional Black sista, my baby just got a job outta college at HBO.
I suppose this might make it more uncommon. A big step indeed, and the interracial aspect of it makes it even more difficult at times, but I have no doubt that together we will conquer all and then some. My fam loves her, regardless, and it is all love to her fam, so Sak Passe to my future pops-in-law.
Like she told her friends when I first started coming around we don't match but we fit.
Anyway update, I spoke to Common's asst. today and gave her my info, she said it was "so sweet" and she would tell him. So hopefully it'll all go off as planned. I will mos def keep everyone inform tomorrow or tonight with a recap post. Thanks for the love.

Yes, she said yes. I didn't get the shout out, but all was beautiful. I think the fact that Erykah hugged her when she was still all teary eyed made up for missin the shout. Not too many couples can say they were quickly conratulated by Erykah Badu, Musiq, Bilal and ?uestlove (who started snappin close-ups-hope they don't show up online cuz i know I was all sweaty and nasty lookin, it was hot and crammed) and countless other friends and strangers immediatley after their engagement.
Funniest parts, the okayplayers who said stuff like congrats, I was waiting for it to happen, and my girl was like "how the hell do all these people know?" funny stuff. Or ?uest at the beggining of the show after I told him I was "In search of Common" talking to me about it for a minute then reaching over to my girl and saying "Hi I'm Ahmir" (she looked puzzled on why he just picked her to say hi to) and them him whispering to me "She doesn't know yet?" with a face like damn I was just about to say something.
Well, I'm, still recovering. But once again thank you to all who showed love. I wish you all a lifetime of moments of love and happiness like the one I shared last night. peace

For those of you who didnt attend one of the most amazing shows ever and for those of you who missed the most important part of the night(for me), I just wanted to let you all know that I said "YES". Even though Common did not dedicate the song to us, it was an amazing moment that I will never forget, It was perfect and I wouldn't have changed for anything in the world. Last night after the concert I came home and read all of the responses that you guys wrote and I just wanted to thank you all for the support that you gave my man, during these past few days. The funny thing is that although i am not an okayplayer regular for some reason I was on the site everyday this week and I must not have been paying attention because I had no clue as to what was going on.
