Okay here we go..My publicist(remember her) calls and says " I got you ticket". So I dont have nothing to wear. But then I thought to myself" Did I just say that"? That sounds too Hollywood. Then the lil angel popped up on my shoulder and says" ..You from Va THUG OUT"!! So I got basic..real basic. Akademiks brown tee,khaki shorts & the brown white & orange & yellow AF1's! And of course the matching Padres cap. So I get there and try to get on the Red Carpet & I dont have any credentials but I'm like " I can do this"!
FAST FOWARD 10 minutes later...
I'm thinkin to myself " I Cant Do This"
So I scrap the Red Carpet & just go in the regular way cuz the shows startin in like 10 minutes. So I make it to my seat. which is way up in the 5th Mezzanine. And to my surprise I look behind me & realize that there are NO seats behind me. I'm in the last row at the top of the cot damn Kodak theatre. So 50 comes on & he's killin it,he gets two awards & I get fed up. Pull out the cell & make a call. 5 minutes & 4 calls later I hold in my hand a 500$ ticket that has me on the floor. So they're holding people in the lobby cuz you can only go in during a commercial break. So I'm standing there & RAKIM walks by,Yeah RAKIM!! He looks over to me & nods like "What Up" So I nod back acting like I'm hard or sumn. He gives me a pound & keeps it moving. So at that point I'm like "Daaaaaamn that was THE R"!! So they open the doors and I make my way to my seat. Which happens to be right by Musiq. We're sittin in front of Vivian Green, behind Ginuwine & Sole & on right beside me is Batman from IMX & beside him is Bow Wow & his mom. on the same Row is Tigger & Money Mike from Friday after Next. Right behind us on Vivian's row Jazzy Jeff. He holla'd my name so I get up & speak to him,Premier & Kid Capri. So I sit down the lights go down & Batman(Marques Houston) says " Yo!! Them kicks is hot" So I reply " Thanks Aint you Roger from Sister Sister??" He goes" Yeah i used to be" Then I say " Them twins hot as hell now aint they?" He starts laughing and I'm thinkin " I'm for real I Wouldnt have lasted on that show for two days..better you than me." Then Erykah comes and sits in front of me & Musiq & him & her start chattin. Meanwhile I'm lookin for Vivica Fox or Kelly from Destiny's Child. That girl from Jamie Foxx's show is across from me. She looks better on TV. Then I see CaSh Money & Teena Marie. Yeah Teena Marie is on Cash Money. You wanna hear that album bad dont you? So before I can shake that horryfying pic outta my head I jus start humming Square Biz to my self. You know just to keep a good memory before she gets platinum teeth & puts out a song called "You Under Dig"! So then Butch Lewis comes out to do the intro for the James Brown tribute & I start thinkin of when Ahmir played me a tape of James Brown fining his band for messing up & letting them know they messed up while doin a show. in the spring issue of waxpoetics they interview Clyde Stubblefield and he talks about if he missed a beat or anything james brown would just hold up 5 fingers and that's how much he would take out of their check. he says they also had to pay their own dry cleaning and hotel...that was all taken out BEFORE THEY GOT THEIR CHECK

I have had *edit*the opportunity to work a James Brown show and the best part of working that show was being able to talk to the band members. Ecspecially the band leader (trumpet player, older white guy). We talked for a good 45 minutes. He was giving me the low down on James language, all that shit you don't understand. Some of it is actually like you mentioned James fineing band members if they mess up during the show. Luckly that night I had the chance to witness James language in action. James fined somebody and I laughed so hard because I understood what was going on plus he was so smooth about it. If you ever have the chance to see James perform still or talk to his band members do so because it really seems like it is an amazing experience to play for him.

Thanks for giving us an artist's perspective on the event. I was working the show with Bobbi Marcus PR & Events. From a publicity standpoint, the majority of celebs and talent that I encountered were cool. (*Usher's an ASSHOLE)

This was my second year doing BET and I continue to have an appreciation for the type of schedules that these artist maintain. (?uest... you and BT showed me mad love last year in the Reebok room. Wish you could have been there this year.)

Part 2= So after the Jb thing the next thing to blow my mind is the JMJ tribute. The whole time it was going on I found it hard no to keep my eyes on the jumbotron. The station that sponsored the show had this DJ that regarded herself as a singer there, so I start jockin and jabberin at her; "when's your album coming out", junk like that. She actually could sing some and the single that I thought(!)was her wasn't bad and I was really just trying to get in at the station. Still, jockin' is jockin'. I just hope nobody ever does that to me...for any reason.

So I think to myself"hmmmmmm..that might not be bad..everyones stuck in traffic on Sunset anyway" So we go to the station and soon as i walk in he's doin a commercial break & he looks up at me & starts beatboxin. So I start spittin..so anyway they play the single and then do a commercial break. so i tell the Dj" play the Beyonce instrumental..and just start it from the top ..dont back it up" So he does & I spit this joint that I wrote to her beat & murdered it. I mean really...so the whole time I'm thinkin"I hope she's stuck in traffic hearing this joint" So we roll out and head the the Skybar.So its a madhouse out front and security's tryin to play me. But its cool I've been in this position before. Whip out the cell & make a call..5 minutes later my manager comes to get me. He's a guest in the hotel so they have to let his party in. So I'm in ...the hotel...not the party. You have to have a stamp on your hand to get in the actual party. So my manager gets me a stamp & I go in. soon as i walk thru the door I see Sanaa Lathan..whoa..hold up..I'm ready to challenge her to a game of strip b-ball. But all i could think about was how I played myself with Kelly. So I didnt say shit..I just looked. So then I see my man Damani..he's from Inglewood & we talkin building and all that.
