"OKP's who like to be entertained answer this for me?"

Okay so I'm sure most of you heard the Rap Up 2002 right? It's August and everytime I go to a station & sometimes just out on the street I always get asked am I gonna do another one. I did it as a joke, I never thought I'd still be doing that song at shows now. Anyway here's my question, who'd anyone wanna hear that? For real? Was it that entertaining?

Yeah I got dreams...and all of em are in my backpack.

But, I think I was happier to hear you spit something new that actually reached the radio. The last thing I heard on the radio was the "Are you that somebody" remix that y'all put out a while ago.

If you did it again would it start to become a gimmick though? Would people expect it from you every year?

I think it was good because it was something that people didn't expect to hear, kinda like "Ghostwriter."

now you know we loved it but you got to ask yourself...do you want this to be your 'thing'? something you do every year?

i'd love to hear a 2003 rap up but its obviously your call.

on an LP..nah..
on a single..helz nah
Halftime at the NBA Playoff's..yeah that ish would be a good time
As a spoof at an awards show..yeah that would be enjoyable..

The only thing Skillz man...is you don't wanna be that nigga that's known for "The Wrap-ups". You don't wanna be doing bluehair shows in Vegas during the LL intermissions in 2020....
I don't know?..It could be that thing that gets you "out there" or it could be that thing that jams you up like a Sitcom actor. Peeps might not take you serious after a while. Like on some Weir Al ish.

maybe mix it up when you're performing or something, but if you do it again, you're going to have to do it again every year, because otherwise people are going to say, "oh, skillz tried to use the same formula twice and when it didn't work he stopped". as long as it's not contrived and it's as funny as the first. what beat are you going to use this time, though?

Whats wrong with being the wrap up man? Having something you are known for is not necessarily a gimmick...

What would be so bad about being associated with time? I wouldn't want to be known as the Pepsi Guy, but the passing of time was a process that always seemed to be real non-offensive to me.

i think we all could imagine marketing strategies that are considerably more questionable.

so do it, but make it the last one. of course it's got to be funny and everything... but then again, there are not many who could do it in an appropriate way, besides yourself, i guess...

so yeah make another one for 2003. but damn man, i hope your album comes out before the wrap up though!

I liked the Rap Up 2002, but you and Kobe combining forces watch out. You know how many white girls you get off that single alone? Plus Kobe looks like he could use a friend right now.

i would'nt consider trying to get play on the radio with it. but if it makes it there its cool. or do a three part song or something an mix that shit up. the first was funny (something that you wouldn't listen to all the time, but when you heard, you'd be like OH SHIT)

then again, do you.

I really liked that song. It said what everyone was thinking, but didn't think they'd hear on a record.
Look at like this. 1)it's real 2)it's funny 3)it's honest 4)it's good. How much music, especially hip hop, is all of those things?
A big fan of yours, waiting for the new album, keep making good music.

What would be dope though is to do a "Wrap Up" of hip hop today. The first verse would be, let's say, a wrap up of 1977-1988, the second verse 1989-1999 and the third a wrap up that goes all the way up to 2003 and what you forsee goin' on in hip hop's future. Just an idea.

cause i was "out of commission" for some of 2002, really helped a sista out filling in the blanks. plus, it was frickin' hilarious.

i would feel funny hearing it on the radio though...keeping it during stage show sounds like a deal though. as long as the sound is clear.

if making a clever song annually is a gimmick, it's not a bad one. i dont know anyone who disliked the 2002 rap up, and this year has had some pretty good moments to goof on, so i'd personally like to see you tear it up again, i mean as long as its on a beat from this year and shit (which im sure is a given). go for it skillz!

because i didn't hear it. Remember that there are still millions of hip hop heads that don't know who you are at all. To me, its a chance to reintroduce yourself through something timely and clever. And it will give you more exposure than it did last year because the industry heads remember.

Don't worry about being known as the "Rap Up Guy". Whatever makes you happy and/or successful is worth doing. Do you think ?uest cares about being known as the "afro guy"? I mean every artist is pidgeonholed in some way. Its inevitable. So if you can't beat em, join em.

we all know you have skills. but the wrap up had my blonde hair blue eyed little sister copying it for her senior class at teh private shcool she went to.

dog, i know you don't want to be pigeon-holed....but damn. your getting exposure.

and aren't you going to get "marketed" a certain way whether you like it or not???

shit. if i were you i wouldnt' care, just as long as you stayed credible.

i mean the roots still do hip hop 101. and some of us go to see their show. and alot of us go to the show and describe them as "that live band who do ALLLL the great covers live".

fuck it. embrace it.

you're getting exposure. and people like it. and it hasn't taken away your credibility as a dope emcee.

now if you stop backing the "wrap up" songs with quality lyrics....then you have a true problem of being a token ass "wrap up man"......

but until then.....

wrap up 2003!!!!

do it!

I was at the house listening to that shit the other day, and I was like, "I can't wait for that fool to get at 2003."

It never occured to me that you might not. I mean, once you put it that way, that it was just you clownin around, well, that was obvious, but it also becomes apparent that doin another one might not have been in the agenda.

Yeah, cats will definitely appreciate it. The question is, when DO you stop though? Do 2003, no doubt. But in 2008, cats are gonna be like *sigh* Here comes Skillz with that "Rap Up" he does. Think about that next year. Right now, just think about making me laugh. I need it. I want it...

if your album comes out this year you should put rap up 2002 as one of the last tracks.

Get Rich Or Die Trying - 3.75/5
The Listening - 4/5
Joe Budden - 3.5/5

George Bush, you're lookin like Zoolander, tryin to play tough for the camera - MCA

Do you know who you are?
Do you know who you are fucking with?
Do you know, the access, to weapons, money and power
that we have? We will fucking kill you!

I'm the ugliest version of passed down toxic capitalist
rapid emcee perversion -- I'm America!
Your bleeding-heart liberal drivel gets squashed
Wash em with sterilized rhyme patriot-guided weaponry bomb
from the makers of the devious hearts -- I'm America!
You bitchy little dogs don't even phase my basic policy
The bomb's smarter, my Ronald Reagan's crush Carter
With Bay of Pig tactics makin young men into martyrs - El-P

The bottom line: Anyone who would brazenly steal an election and insert themselves into OUR White House with zero mandate from The People is, frankly sadly capable of anything. - Michael Moore

My mind keeps driftin' 'cause I haven't had a spliff in, a long time I'm doin' fine, I feel terrific - Snoop

Homer Jay Simpson quotes:

- He lied to us though song. I HATE when people do that.
- Can't talk...eating.

...it woulda made perfect sense.

but talking about last year when this year is 2/3 over seems a little outdated.

the concept ain't bad, though. depending on how may different ways you can flip it. topically. over different beats.

frankly, i liked the ugly joint much better. not that i didn't like the rap-up. just thought you made things a little more deader over the bubba sparxxx beat.
