"Is this ?uestlove on the beat? (Yes or No)"

I know the song says Freeway featuring Jay-Z (they just sampled dude voice and plus they using it wrong) but this track's star feature is that dude beating some primitive shit on them skins like he mad at something. This must be the work of the one ?uestlove because nobody is making drums talk like dude, nobody is making the drums flow like an mc - this is nice work.

Oh and as if you havent heard the track already hear is the link:

I thought the exact same thing today while listening.

I figure it's either Storch behind the boards (with ?uesto drumming)

or Just Blaze behind the boards.

but who knows, it can easily be some lesser known producer as well.

I doubt that it would be just some run of the mill dude. Listen to the way the beat changes up and actually follows freeway's flow, this is definitely a live drummer and not just some dude punching a drum pad. This joint was crafted with mc and drummer working together. I think its ?uest.

I mean who else is doing live drums on hip hop beats? I know theres talk of a lot of producers using elaborate live instrument set ups to make beats but really. Who else out there can make it knock like this?

I think Free gives him a shout on that one, but on this track I get the same feel as the "where you been" but more intense - less friendly. Overall I think whoever the drummer is stuck his foot in it and didnt let up, allthough I did kinda wanna the drums to go on a rant at the end of the track but you know some artist get jealous if they are showed up by an instrument on they own shit.

no question...no pun intended, it's good work, crisp sounding production, but I'd guess it's all blaze. I liked the stacked bass line with that synth though.

what do you make of the changes and the way he switches to follow free's cadence - u think that was programed? And what about the flat sound, most hiphop beatsmiths go for a fuller sounding drum if they are gonna use a beat machine. You think this guy deliberately programed the drums to sound real - come on, no one is checking for the realness in a drum, why bother?

some people find it to be an art, making programmed drums sound real as hell. Dilla comes to mind. Any fool with an mpc can chop and loop a sample, the drum track on this is more of a "piece" of music.

Sounds like a drum machine. Some plp are crazy on them, it's just like an instrument. Practice makes perfect.
