I opened the case and read the liner notes.
And then I lost it.
And as of now, I'm not financially stable enough to afford to buy it again.
I will eventually. You bet I will.

i told them mofos would come to this before they came to the albums.
this is why i HAD to put my ass into it (the liner notes, the rare shit) before they did it (woulda sold you the same shit twice)---

i think as a middle finger device...well not label guy...he is the one who looked out and made this happen (me taking control)---but this album cost $0 to make. maybe $10,000 for the mastering and perhaps the commercials for BET and MTV (all 3 of em)--so 40 sales means they in the black.

and they need ANY type of victory to make this seem like "they did their job".

the goal aint "what's good for me"

the goal is "what is good for my job".

and greatest hits are a SUREFIRE money maker.

Complete with photos, music sheets, notes, session footage, commerative gold coin (j/k). Did you think about packaging HG another way other than two separate discs with an inspired blue notes album cover?

as an official album i believe in their catalog. The track numbering doesn't continue from TTP. GT will start with number 100-something (i don't know off the top of my head).

Homegrown was my introduction to The Roots. I was wavering back and forth for a while between checkin' 'em out. When I saw the Homegrown series I jumped on it and never regretted it. The linear notes really add that something special that is more than the "who produced the track".

Roots fan here on out

Read each respecitive liner note while listening to that respective record on HG. It paints a perfect picture of what and how things went down. Hell, even on myspace i put as my favorite books: "HG Liner Notes, Vol.1 & 2"

This is pretty much the only Roots CD that I don't own. I've purchased all of their CD's including the Legendary EP. If I have this whole collection already, is it worth it to buy this 2CD set? Any bonus tracks or reworked versions? Anything special to it?

Theres a lot of unreleased/reworked/remixed/alternate versions of stuff on Homegrown, esp on Vol2. 2 good reasons to buy Homegrown.. Quicksand Millenium & The Giles Peterson Worldwide Sessions.

about The Roots is ?uest's extensive liner notes. The other thing that's a lot smaller but I still enjoy is that they actually number each track individually, and each album or EP continues where the last left off. Are there any other artists that do this?

I had just picked them up at the library here in Ohio (my copies are in storage in Delaware). But check it, they only had the edited copies at the library. So I said to hell with that, checked 'em out anyway, and just read the liner notes.
Crazy that was not even a week ago.

yeha I took homegrown liner notes on my breaks with me at work,
which was a workout in itself with regard to 'How dilated ur eyes
get while reading these flea size fonts!?!??'
but u know,
worth putting up for. May I add that at the expense of others (?uest n so on..) I definitely enjoyed the Break u off dramas that I read.
I take that shiz on board now when I listen to that track (the only track I never warmed to on the album)
**a mighty fine album at that!

such a tight compilation. being a former dj smooth transitions pull me in. i love how this comp flows. i want to sit here and read the liner notes again but i don't think that would be cool at work. ha!
