i dont know about the new video ipods, but i have the 20gb one and it has locked up on me a few times and needed to be restored and i lost all my music.

For me to be able to enjoy this thing, I need to back it up because right now it feels like such a burden, like every time I turn it on I'm getting closer to the final demise of all these songs. How can I SAFELY ensure that this shit won't be lost if the ipod craps out?
1 you can just buy a new laptop (this is actually a great time to buy, prices are super cheap because they are all competing via return to school sales). and just drop it all on the hard disk of the computer.
2 you can buy a .mac account (or any online storage service) and store it all online.
3 you can not worry about any of that shit, just let me pay for shipping (plus a generous handling fee for you of course, my good sir) both ways, and i'll make an online account for you. i wont even look to see what's on there, i promise.
im assuming it is the 60 gig one, so go buy a 80 gig hard drive from tigerdirect (they have a ton of rebates all the time) and buy a external hard drive case. shouldnt cost more than 100 at the max
they are easy to but together its just a couple of screws and 2 internal plugs. inbox me if you have questions, i have 2 external hard drives just for music, so i have been through it all.

personally, i use XPlay with my iPod. It makes the iPod act as a mass storage device. ie: it will become a drive under My Computer. then you can just copy and paste from there. i know there are other ways, but thats what i use

DO NOT PLUG IT INTO A COMPUTER UNTIL YOU GET SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO NOT ERASE EVERYTHING ON IT ACCIDENTALLY.
But I know you already are concerned with the safety issue, so I'm double checking all the software that I'm looking into to make sure that what I advise you of works out like it's supposed to.
there's lots of programs that will allow you to do what you want quickly and easily. you just need to figure out where to keep the files, since you have no pc.
the one the guy above mentioned sounds good, and ipodcopy is supposed to be pretty good also.
but for real? don't even sweat it homey, just throw it over to me via usps, all expenses paid for by me. i'll have that shit back to you in no time homey. no fuss, no muss.

Plug that thing into a computer with iTunes and then File> Print> select Song Listing> Theme:songs > print it out. Scan all the printouts and then just post the whole library of songs as scanned pictures.
