B-Legit & E-40 - I think the difference in tone and style between the B-Le, 40, and BT would provide a really interesting dynamic for a new track!

after hearing "Hump de Bump" (by Red Hot Chili Peppers) a few times, I felt like (an "animated" lol) Black Thought would be great for a verse during the percussion break. That would be sick if they did a version with that verse, would fit so well.

Anyway, I'd say Chili Peppers or Tower of Power horns section (nothin beats T.O.P. horns)

13. "Saul Williams"
In response to Reply # 0

I've always wanted to hear Saul perform the spoken word poem at the end of a Roots' record.

I'm also interested to hear Pharoahe Monch trade verses with Black Thought over The Roots' production. We had Pharoahe and Black on a song (Gorilla Monsoon Rap), but the beat was lackluster.

I also believe a collaboration with Matisyahu would be different, but creative. If not on wax, it would be nice to see Matisyahu perform during a Roots and friends concert, with ?uest and co. as the house band.

I guess to each their own but I thought it was perfect for a posse track. I do agree with your suggestion though, I would love to hear Pharoahe on a Roots track!

I'm totally with you on Saul and Pharoahe. I personally hated the Guerilla Monsoon Rap beat. The only point I disagree with you on is Matisyahu, I'm not a fan.

That's true. Same goes for Pharoahe.

I think a lot of emcees are afraid to rock with BT and Pharoahe because they'll eat 'em up, and no one wants to get mashed on their own record.

Also, I'd like to hear a collab with Phonte and Big Pooh of Little Brother. That would be dope, I think. No dis to Rapper Big Pooh, because he's ill, but I'd rather hear a back and forth between BT and Phonte.

As someone said earlier, a song with K-Os would sound nice, too.

I agree totally, no one wants to feel lyk Jay-Z did when he was destroyed by Em on "Renegade". And the Blueprint was a classic, imagine if BT or Pharohe's verse would be the best in the entire album, which could be pretty likely, considering the current state of "MCs". BT and Pharohe (and Common and Phonte and MF Doom) are the best pure MCs out there today. I'd love to see The Legendary with Phonte or Elzhi from Slum Village, or MF Doom, or Common(once again). I heard ? and Andre 3000 would have a good collabo, but it may be WAY too fast for anyone, probably can make an instrumentals album w/ him. and i think so, and the roots vs. the red hot chili peppers would be a genius mash-up album, or vs. spymob. ? should also see how he'd do with Pharrell and Kanye and Dangermouse and 9th Wonder on board w/ him. Creativity at this level could stretch for miles, but BT and ? must remember to not be afraid to experiment and to live in the sky. F*** everyone else, do wat you want.

That wasnt a smart move by Jay to take that song because that was really Em's and Royce's song. He got outshined but it wasn't as bad as people made it out to be (i.e. Nas). The Stans really killed him for that one but that's besides the point. No artist wants to get outshined. I can't see Thought working outside of "hip-hop/slash underground type artists" or with "commercial" type artists. I just can't see him with a T.I., a Jeezy, a Lil Wayne or a 50 Cent type cat.

Nas and Thought would be dope!

I wouldn't say that...... because the most recent joint that's out with Dre on it is "International Player" by UGK feat Outkast..... and he killed it on the smooth-out

I think Andre and ?uesto would make something awesome together......add a little Sleepy Brown on the hook.... dope track

I wonder how that would sound, you know ?uesto and 3000 are on the ecletic tip. It's probably be something pretty far ahead of its time or out the box. Add Black Thought, and I think it'd be a pretty solid music experiment...

I like some of what people are saying!

I'd definately like to see another BT and Pharoah track, though I love gorilla monsoon rap.
I think Matisyahu would be great, even better in a live situation.
I'd like to see BT and Eminem in a track where Em steps it up like dead wrong or renegades.
Something different would be great too, over a NIN electronic track would be interesting
a track with 311 and a reggae dancehall beat.
an Andre 3000 track would be great, very fast though haha

I never heard the Bt and Linkin Park song, sounds interesting.
I like the BT verse on the new Fort Minor cd.

It's off Reanimation (which is to date the only Linkin Park CD I enjoy). LP has very little presence on it, it's basically BT ripping a verse over an X-ecutioners beat if I remember correctly. I was gonna link it up, but my internet is being slow as a muh'fugga, so if anyone else has it...

I'd Definatly like to hear what rakim and BT could come up with

Phife/Qtip would be interesting, it'd be interesting to see how their styles mesh with the roots

Maybe a collab with J5 could be nice.

Outkast is a great suggestion, that would definatly be real interesting.

I was intrigued by the reggae suggestion, I donno how it'd go but it'd be sweet to hear them collab with Toots (of toots & the maytals)

I doubt it'd ever happen, and i have no remote clue to what it'd sound like but a collab with Tool would be pretty incredible.

DAMN!! I dont know if the masses can handle all of that friepower. I'd say it'd be a "Guerrilla Monsoon Rap" 2, but this time, with some NICE J.Dilla sample or with Hi-Tek or Alchemist on the beat (not to knock Kanye, amazing producer and the beat is marvelous, it just could of have a bit more to compensate for the lyrical firepower to help make that a CLASSIC track). BT should consider doing a mixtape, I heard this amazing freestyle he did on the Wake Up Show, which from that moment, ushered him into my "GREATEST MCs EVER" list. And I loved the concept of ? Vs. Scratch in TFA and IH, but if they made a whole album, the beautiful sounds would be oozing out the speakers. Oh yea, BT and Nicolay should do a track together, and mix the Roots with the Procussions. There are just sooo many possibiities...

always though that Thought would sound good trading verses with Cee-lo

Also another track with Zap Mama would be cool. All vocal with Rhazel laying down the track with Marie.

Hmmm ... Timbalada/Carlinhos Brown would be dope as hell, but they're just not there yet in terms of international consciousness. Thought spitting over a high-powered samba-reggae beat would be amazing though

As everyone else said, MC wise I'd love to see Pharoahe, K-os, Elzhi and Phonte. I'd also love to see more collabs with Talib, Mos and Common. Singers? Bilal, Bilal, Bilal! Hell ?uest should produce a whole new album for him, then they could tour together. That'd be my dream come true. Oh and some more stuff with Cody Chestnutt would be cool too. Robert Glasper tore it up with them at RCMH. I'd love to see Jason Moran, Ron Blake and DJ Logic collabs too.

Lupe Fiasco is on fire! If Del, Lupe, BT, Pharohe, and Phonte all spit on one track, that would be a backpacker's dream. And i saw zach de la rocha, I would have never thought of rage and the roots. "Let the revolution begin" is all I have to say to that. Genius.

They did do that one song "Burned Hollywood Burned" w/ Chuck D. It was on the "Bamboozled" soundtrack.

This is some true "moth to the flame" type shit, but I've ALWAYS (since blackstar) wanted to hear Mos and Cee Lo linked up. The problem is that these two cats, despite the fact that they are both top-5 emcees in the game, imo, they both just wanna sing! Could you imagine these two doing a CD together? there'd be two verses on the whole damn album, the rest would be them crooning...it would still be pretty tight, but not what it could be if they would just spit.

If anyone could harness their powers and keep them on track and rhymin, i think it would be ?uest. I can imagine him lookin at these two, tappin his watch, like "studio time, son. done singin yet?"

And if ever there was motivation to rhyme, Thought gettin in that ass would have to be it. You can't help but wanna rhyme when thought starts spittin. shit, i know FOR A FACT that I cannot even pretend to rhyme, but when I hear thought I start feeling like rappin!

?uest: bring these two together for some magic!

I would love to see them w/someone like T.I. Or Jeezy. Someone who people have "mixed views" on whether they can "rap" or not. I would love that.

I think for some, (including the rappers themselves) the change of musical landscape might reflect them in a different light.

I also wouldn't mind seeing them with a Southern artist. Maybe Outkast.

1) What ever happened to that Black Thought solo. A Thought solo could give him an opportunity to collab with a lot of producers and artists that you might never see on a Roots album especially producers

2) I agree a lot of dudes are scared to get down with Thought because they will get ate. One of the illest collabs with thought which I didnt see anyone mention was the Big Pun and Thought joint Superical Lyrical. That was a fitting ass title cause them two dudes ripped it. I can't call who was better on that joint.

3) Thought and Phonte over 9th would be dope

4) The all-time collaboration I want to hear is a track with:

Mos, Kweli, Thought, Q-Tip and Common Sense

Now I know all of these dudes have collaborated with one another at some point but never all at the same time, at least not to my knowledge. Someone or two is usually left out. I'm undecided as to who should do the beat though. Dilla would have been my choice though.

The Roots and Prince would be hot...

Um:

*Jazzyfatnastees
*Amy W
*Has Lupe worked with them yet?
*Maybe Lil Wayne
*The Marley Family (Specifically Ziggy, Steven, and Jr. Gong)
*Outkast
*P.O.D
*Linkin Park
*D'Angelo (if he returns)

Idk.... I'm just bending the membrane.

Right, but they are still great. Also a record without features of other rappers would be great. Only singers and some people playing instruments as guests. No one else rappin except Thought. I would like to hear that.

Top of my wishlist would be: BECK...
Both, the Roots and Beck come up with something totally different on each LP. They embrace genres of all kinds and as we know, Beck has always been fond of Break Beats and rapping. I think, together they could bring Hip Hop to a whole new level. And didn't ?uestlove list The Information as one of his favorite LP in 2006 (correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he was no 2 on his Top 10 list)?
