As many of you know, Mos Def is taking some time off from the Breed Love Odyssey tour. I do not know what Mos is going through, but whatever it is, it is enough to make him not perform. As someone who loves the stage, he’s got to be having a tough time right now, and I pray that whatever he’s going through will end okay. Dante is my friend, and whatever he needs, we will always have his back.

With that said, I would like to make an apology to the fans who were looking forward to a Black Star show. Dante and I together on stage is a beautiful thing and I am just as disappointed as any fan that it is not happening. But let me tell you what IS happening. There are 3 incredibly talented acts and a dedicated production crew and we’ve been busting our asses to make this show successful and great. THE SHOW WILL GO ON. We will miss Mos, but the shows have been powerful even before he hits the stage. Pharoah, K’Naan, Jean Grae, and myself are committed to enhancing our show to make it even more powerful. We are still on the road, the tour has not been cancelled, but we do need help from the fans. If you appreciate live hiphop and recognize the work that we put down, keep buying tickets to go see the Breed Love Odyssey tour. Tell your friends and get them to go too. Let these promoters know that you still want a show. We have a chance to build something for artists who exist outside of mainstream hiphop. The record industry would have you believe that our type of hiphop does not sell. If this tour dies, we will have proven them right. This is not abut the money. None of us were making any real money, this is about presenting a united front and celebrating a culture that we care about.

Now you might be thinking “I wanted to see Mos Def or Blackstar, so why should I come if I’m not seeing that?” Well first,

- you should come for K’Naan, an exciting MC/poet/singer/songwriter from Somalia. He lives in Toronto and his crew is on stage with guitars, drums, and computers. His voice is powerful and melodic, and the commentary in his music is searing. After his performance you will definitely want to cop his CD, which we are selling at the shows.

- Jean Grae, a NY rap legend hits the stage next. Ms. Grae is the best female MC since Ms. Hill. She raps circles around the vast majority of MC’s, and her stage show is clever, raw and fun without sacrificing any realness. Jean is signed to my label Black Smith Music Corp. We are doing big thingsand you can see it live, see it first. History is being made on this stage.

- Next, you know not to miss a chance to see Pharaoh Monche, one of hiphop’s best, grace the stage. Pharaoh has records that you will lose your mind to. All kinds, not just “Simon Says.” He is a free agent and has lots of new energy and material. His background vocalists La and Showtime KILL it every night.

Seeing Pharaoh, Jean, and I on stage is like what it felt like to be at Lyricist Lounge in 1998. During my set, I will be doing the whole catalog. There will be special guests in every city and I will invite the other performers back on for a session too. We will make this work, it will be interactive, fun, and a great concert experience you will never forget. I was there for the first show in Sac and you werent there so I was really bummed, so I saved up my money to watch the second Santa Cruz show with you there and man it was straight fire. I was in the front and got props from all the performers. Let me say to people still thinking about going to the show. K'naan is really good, great opening act, he really brings the heat I didn't know anything about him, but after seeing him twice he is really a good act. Second Jean Grae is a great performer she always got the crowd involved and keep us moving. I don't have to talk about you Talib you ran the show with "TOO LATE" and "Nati Streets", but Pharaohe is the man he straight ended the show with SIMON SAYS and AGENT ORANGE. Pharaohe is the man I hope to have a new cd out of him. Overall sucks that blackstar isn't going, but i'm sure you guys and gals will pick up the slack. Best wishes to Mos

Yeah, I was at the show in Sac too and was disappointed that Kweli wasn't there. The show was still worth it though. I had never heard of K'Naan or seen Jean live. Pharoah's set, though short, was quite entertaining (one of his backup singers was wildin). Mos definitely kept heads nooding and faces smiling. It was a dope show. I hate to hear he won't be finishing it out though.

I caught the early Anaheim show and it was a wonderful experience. All of you guys ripped it on stage and I can't wait to see you the next time around. Sorry to hear about Mos dropping out of the tour. Those of you that still have tickets or haven't got your tickets yet still should support this tour because it is an excellent show. Seemed like NOBODY got to do a set worth a damn except Fort Minor. I really enjoyed Mos' set, Kweli was obviously sick or something but he wasn't able to play long enough to find his groove, and everyone else seemed like they were on stage for 20 minutes. I had fun, but damn...wasn't a need to pack the show in like that.

Seems like you're basing MOST of that off my review of the LA show. Kweli's voice was messed up, but it's not like the dude can stop the tour for that. Mos has BEEN doing new material live since pre New Danger and I, for one, thought his set was the best part of the night. Plus, he did a decent amount of stuff off New Danger and BOBS.

y'all are set to perform here in abq. tomorrow and i'm glad i didn't cop tickets. i wasn't gonna go anyway since all the stiff newjack whiteys ruin it and paying 40 bucks for a show at that horrible venue isn't worth it either. this makes me feel better for not wasting my money...

From what I've heard on the new tracks and on jimmy kimmel, it sounds like he's mixing up his style a little. That could work well for some songs but maybe he should be picking and choosing songs at the live shows...
i.e. still rock his older pitch on some songs like he does for Ms. Hill (dope song) and switching up for the get live songs.

All in all, it sounds like I'll be picking up Right About Now. I've been meaning to pick up a Beautiful Struggle mixtape (Any recommendations on which one?) Besides that what I heard of that actual album didn't move me the way this and Quality did.

First of all my prayers go out to Mos. He has always portrayed himself as a professional, with a strong dedication to maintaining peoples awareness of non-mainstream hip hop and a "true" friend to Talib. It would've been great to see Black Star together again, but for him to have backed out during the tour, it has to be VERY important.

I truly believe Talib is being sincere in expressing his disappointment and he's right! There are still 3 incredibly talented acts who I'm sure have worked very hard in making the tour a success & entertaining to us the fans. Let's not give up on them. Yes, Talib's voice may have not been as strong as normal. What artist hasn't lost their voice when on tour? I've seen Talib perform live and he's always given a 110% of himself. He is one of the most respected MCs amongst his peers in the music industry. Hell! Jay-Z has even expressed it. Why can't we as music listeners see that? Because commercially we are being programmed to think what is good hip hop. Not what's really going on in the streets. As with Jean. Her performances are so strong. The "true" dedicated fans will continue to SUPPORT the tour no matter what! The rest are nothing but fair weather fans jumping on the bandwagon cuz they think it's the "in" thing to do.

Let's prove these people wrong. We really need to send a message to the music industry that there is a need, a want & a large urban audience of people who listen to non-mainstream hiphop. I don't know about you, but I'm tired of listening to the same 10 or 12 songs on the radio. Especially when I know there are more artist out there spittin better lyrics....giving us "quality music"!
