I'm inbetween on this one. When I first heard it, I was pissed. But after listening to it and the album, oh, I don't know, 10,000 times, it has grown on me a bit. It is definately catchy.

That said, it sounds like he had about 3 minutes before the album went to print and threw up this verse. Sounds totally rushed, and it sounds like he recorded it over the actual song.

yeah the studio version was worse cos it was slower and seemed lazyly recorded, the live one had more energy. But still it don't fit the album AT ALL. Suddenly in the middle of a studio album u got some not great quality recording of a live set on a TV show! I mean it just don't work. I say re-record food in a studio properly.

I think they just took some garbage ass mp3, cause it sounds no different from the mp3 i got the day after that chappelle show in february or some shit.

When I heard the dvd, A) no censors and B) everything is crystal clear. I could be wrong, but there is a major difference there between what live version got on the disc and what was on the dvd.

I don't mind that it's live, but the sound quality of the joint is terrible.

and I stumbled upon one of the worst verses on any Common song

i had to play it again to make sure he said that stupid shit

i aint like "they say" that much with just com on it, yea he ripped it, but that beat is blah, john legend sounds a lil...weird, kanye wasnt that bad but he mos def ruined the feel of the song, com wasted a lot of hot lines on that song imo, that song gets played 50% of the time, i think the two worst beats were Real People and They Say, that shit sounded like he sampled some Kenny G or something and called soulful cause com was spitting heat on it

The best songs to me are

Faithful, Love Is, Its Your World, Corners, Go, Be,

Chi-city has grown on me a lot so i like it more than they say and real people

the food is ill, i liked both versions, and at first the live one bothered me b/c i felt it was weird too, but after about 10 listens i really felt like it added spice to the album

the only track that actually felt out of place to me was testify, i actually kinda like the song but its a weird song and kinda messes up the cohesiveness just a tad

this album is borderline classic in my opinion, only time will tell

if you guys REALLY think that highly of that album that 1 minute of kanye rhyming ruined it for you, then i'd say Kanye outdid himself on this album, because he DID exec produce the whole thing. if you guys care THAT much about Consequence and his standard "the industry did me dirty" rap, then i'd say you guys need hugs and that you shouldn't have downloaded that bootleg to begin with. and if you guys hate Kanye that much then he really must really be doing something right.

"They Say" has Kanye on it, that means it has the potential to be a popular single and can have a video with Kanye in it, which means that it can give Common more exposure on BET and MTV, which means he can sell more records, which means he can afford to make more music for you folks to hate on.

Bottom line, no Kanye, Common's career would be floundering. He'd be rapping about how the industry took him under. Kind of like some other rapper I can think of.

", "he done gone to New York and forgot where he from") Now I'm by no means a Kanye fan and I can appreciate the logistics of workin with a producer that CURRENTLY has the platinum touch but that doesn't mean that Com would be down and out if not for a kid who if memory serves was runnin all up in behind No ID and Dug Infinite trying to learn the MPC and would have loved to be on "Can I Borrow A Dollar"

I don't think it's at all neccessary for Com to starve for his art, as an emcee you usually start of starving anyway, so no I don't think that the only way I know your real is if you broke. That shows no growth. My only argument is that latching on to what's hot for the moment (see Neptunes) is not always the best policy to adopt. It may raise your sales but when that persons star fizzles where are you left(especially if you go so far as to sign to there label). It's good to move with the times, but you can't forget your base, it's just like being in gov't especially if your talking about making money. You need those people loyal to you to stay that way. So yeah, link with the hometown favorite, get 4 maybe, 5 tracks, even make a couple of those the singles, and then get JD, ?uest, Premiere. Don't give me the whole damn album with the exception of one track produced by Mr. West as well as exec produced. That doesn't sound like a Com cd that sounds like a Kanye cd.

The only bad thing about the verse is the cadence. Kanye has abused that cadence for the last two years and THAT IMO is what makes the song .....OK!!!

The lyrics weren't wack at all...just the way it was delivered. And by now, I've gotten over that and actually like the song a lot. No matter, how you feel about that song...If they release it as the next single; the numbers for BE will increase rapidly. The only thing I care about is seeing BE go platinum because no matter how dope Common is....If BE doesn't sell more I'm worried that Com will start to lose the backing from his label.
