this is nothing but the fuckin' truth here.
again: "go" is by no means a bad song (actually, it's dope), but it is totally not a good look for a second, "let's keep the momentum going" single.
can you hear it on a radio playlist? what the fuck is radio gonna do with it? ("and that was 'go,' y'all. next up: cassidy's 'i'm a hustler (remix)!'")
it does not bring anything to the table for anyone. (i.e., with "corners," com is bringing in new fans who are looking to identify with something "conscious"--"go" will not give them that, and the streets are gonna think it's corny, anyway.) the reason "the light" was, like, his only hit is because it provided an avenue for wannabe-bohos to feel like they a part of the team, on some, "hey ya'll, i'm 'deep' too!" and of course it was "sticky" (e.g., you couldn't get it out of your head), as well. but the imagery/association that people got from it--the "i'm conscious too!" factor--is what made it contagious, and everybody knows "stickiness" and "contaigousness" make shit catch on (see kayne supplying both elements to "corners" with the everyman u.s.a./averagejoebackpacker imagery steez, AND a catchy-ass chorus)
that's why i implore geffen/labelguy/com to seriously consider putting "faithful" ("real people" is redonkulous, but let's be real, people (pun intended), that shit would not fit into a radio format, it's too "jazzy") out as the second single instead. "faithful" is "sticky" (word to malcolm gladwell), and if the video is done correctly, it could push com over the top.
And if all else fails, go with "the food." but stay thee FUCK away from 106 & park/trl/hot 97, etc. with "go."
i really mean it.
