I remember seeing one person posting in the wrong place, and when people told him so, he said 'I don't know about the rules on these boards', while he should have read the guidelines he gets when registering (sp?).<P>I agree with what other 'vets' <img src="http://www.okayplayer.com/dcforum/Images/wink.gif"> wrote here (I won't add : "DON'T post the same message 7 times in a row" <img src="http://www.okayplayer.com/dcforum/Images/wink.gif">). <P>I feel that the board moderators could be more severe. A lot of posts that are duplicates (or even 'triplicates') of existing topics (whether it be in the archives or on the same page of that board) still stay on the boards, same story for 'offensive' stuff.<P>Now I don't want to start the censorship debate again, cos we've had that in the past, but we have guidelines. If people violate one of those, there's no reason their post should still be on the boards. What's the use of having guidelines when they're not applied ?<P>I'm not saying the board administrators don't do their job, but maybe they don't have time since traffic has increased at an exponential rate here. DO- feel free to voice your opinions on any okayartist's piece of work (ie: voodoo, like water for chocolate, the once & future, etc.), other okayplayer's posts/threads, or create your own...(everyone has the right to hold their opinion, whether it's by agreeing or critiquing)<P>DON'T- a)knock an opinion or piece of work, strictly for the sake of disagreeing and separating yourself from the masses (incorporoate some type of substance to support your ideas and opinions)<BR> - b)abuse this luxury of communicating directly with the artists...it's a privilege to have them listen to our questions and concerns, let's not take it for granted that they'll respond<BR> - c)disrepect another brother's/sister's opinions/beliefs because they disagreed with yours(as i mentioned above, eveyone's entitled to there own opinions and they don't have to be a "hater" or "dickrider" because they see things differently than you)<P>in conclusion, i've been frequently posting on this site since since last march, but i don't consider my self a vet or an "original okayplayer"...i'm just a 29 year-old fan of the roots and good music in general...if i find that i hold the same opinion on a certain topic (ie: voodoo is hot!)as the majority of okayplayers, then i don't consider myself "jockin'" quest, d, or anyone else...i think it's love that others are inspired by music in the same way...if my opinion goes against the grain of the masses, i hope others RESPECT it even if they disagee...negativity has been the cause of a lot of players limiting their posts or better yet, not posting at all...love is love y'all...peace!

#1 thing not to do around here is take yourself nor anyone else so seriously. This is the internet, entertainment, not real life. If you don't have a sense of self or humor, you will get your feelings hurt. Know yourself before entering. Life is too short to let a bunch of "geeks", like us to really bother you. I hate to say it, but things arent always pretty on the okayboards... After having only been a passive observer (and thus some of the fault is mine) for a long time, i now feel compelled after reading these messages to respond. I feel like the okayboards are becoming some sort of closed society where new members are not welcomed with open arms, but where they are put through a series of tests to see if they are "worthy" of membership as if this was some wack ass college fraternity. Is it not enough that 1) they checked out the site? 2) mustered up the courage to post (cause trust me, Quest can post some scalding messages!) If thats how it is, then thats how it is... i just hope the site is for everyone, including the kid who just picked up his first roots CD last week and has yet to blessed by the old shiii...
