"Why is Malik B an emcee?"

Can somebody explain to me why Malik B is employed as an emcee? This man should not be rapping. His lyrics are weak, his voice is whiny and his flow is generic. Why is he a member of the Roots? Is he Thought's little brother or sumthin? How did this man get put on? HE'S HORRIBLE! Anybody who says lines like this, should not be rapping:
"I can make a hundred yard line start to dash
I can make a whole lake of fish start to splash
I can make Conan and the Titans clash
and I can Metallica and guns 'N Roses thrash..."
HE ACTUALLY SAID THOSE LINES ON "PROCEED"! And that's just an example. How many dope songs has this man ruined? Why did they put his boring, monotonous flow on "Clones"? That song is tight, everybody comes correct and spits hard. Then here comes Malik B. Y'all can ride the Roots til the end of time, but anybody who does not recognize that Malik is a below average emcee has to be legally deaf. This man simply has NO standout verses or lines and has NEVER come impressive lyrically, vocally, whatever.
Why is he playin sidekick when the next best emcee in the Roots camp (to Black Thought) is clearly Dice Raw. How old is this kid now, 20, 21? He was tight like 5 years ago. He's got mad energy on the mic and spits mad creative lines in every verse. His verse on "Adrenaline" had me bouncin off the walls. Yet, he doesn't get nearly as much mic time as Malik. WHY??? Y'all talkin about underrated emcees on the Lesson... let's talk about Dice Raw. Why is he in the cut, while Malik is up front ruinin songs and ish? Is the whole Roots crew afraid to say somethin to Malik? Are they just not hearing how horrible he is? Did he win a bet or sumthin? I don't get it.

---------------------------
"when science finally locates the center of the universe, some people will be surprised to learn they're not it."
- unknown
"words - so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them."
- nathaniel hawthorne
"whatever happens it was written, meaning God meant it..."
- nasir jones

> Self-procraimed lames,
>>callin theyselves bold
>callin theyselves God (might be a reference
>to 5 percenters)
no, "calling themselves LORD". "God" doesn't rhyme with "sword" or "ward" from the proceeding lines. I hear "Lord". Also, you have the internal assonance (i.e. same consonant sound) from "lames" to "Lord"...I dunno, I'm pretty sure he said "Lord". It also rhymes with "floored" in the next line.
Spread love,
Spirit
http://amphibians.iuma.com<;/a>
www.soul-sessions.com
Hip-hop forever...power to the people
R.I.P. i mean, you dissin his verse on clones is classic comedy!!! you ARE joking, right? i mean, DAMN!!! there's a reason he comes last. he rips maybe the DOPEST verse on a song of DOPE verses. while i agree he may not always be the smoothest (he's guilty of the old common sense syndrome, the opposite of the kweli syndrome, which means too few syllables per bar) and sometimes he IS a lil random (cattle in the steeple...?) but shit, i mean, clones??? no alibi??? he rips his verse on step into the realm. and what i think really makes him work is the fact that he definitely complements thought. he writes verses that fit the songs and that fit thought's flows. damn, this is just a waste of a thread....
http://www.thehungersite.com<;/a>
"I ain't no goddamn son of a bitch--you'd better think about it, baby!"
--Glenn Danzig (Misfits)
"Where the F*CK is my purse icon??????"

I mean goddamnit someone give me some answers!! Jeeeeez!! How could they!
You may be rubbing your rubbing your hands together for a 'display all' sign, but thats cool.
There's a thicket of other heads on this site who could explain this better than I, but this is my take.
The first thing I hone in on when I listen to an emcee (well all these things at once, but this is the most important) is lyrical content. Are his words put together to vaguely connect a rhyme or does the bloke got a scheme oh his shit? I don't have to agree with his opinions if i like the way he's stating them. If you don't catch the meaning of a verse until the 20th time you've heard it, thats more proof.
Your bitching about the proceed verse. Hmmm... I liked that one a lot actually. But it fit the song well. To me that song was like the the arch de Rootsland because it was the first song of their's I'd ever heard. I mean the song's about rockin mic's right?? Well what kind of power you got on the mic? Not every rhyme should be microanalyzed to depict its meaning. Shit why do people love Q-Tip? Everybody could understand him, but he didn't say stupid shit.
Support your declarations, brah.
"Come out my humble go berzerk and make you swallow your smirk
I splurge most and bash, capacitate mass
I fascinate as I assassinate and show task
Characters and egos, get crushed in trust
And my words stampede like herds in a dusk" Malik B. from www.ohhla.com
I know you must have been buggin when you made that sidekick comment. His style is totally different and they offset each other's beautifully. Just read this shit for now, I'm too tired to type more.
The only thing I don't like about Malik is he always sounds like he trying so damn hard. He comes up with some tight flows, but he forces to many rhymes. See "I used to ive life like there was no manyana/now I'm treating every breath like it was an honor" That's a clunky line. If anyone should try to be a little less intricate, it's him. It would avoid the awkwardnes.
Otherwise, though, I disagree. Tight flows, cool voice, will occasionally drop a B.D.F.O.L. (bug da F out line). Plus, one of my favorite parts of TFA is at the end of "Spark"--"This is what it's all about." That just sounds cool.
Bryan
aim=bshelly24
Last albums purchased:
--Curtis Mayfield "Roots"
--Yo La Tengo "And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out"
"UH-OH, UH-OH. UH-OOOOOOH, UH-OH. Maybe this clown is tryin to say that Malik don't come off as clean when put next to Thought, but that's just plain silly. Why even go there. In response to Reply # 16

griots were not only the historians, they were the performers, the "storytellers", and another reason why things weren't written down is because of the belief in "orature" which is the practice of "performing history", which includes music, dance, and visual art, and audience participation. Orature is at the root of African art, both visual and performing. The storyteller, the griot, incorporates the audiences into the performance, and each time the story is told, it changed according to who told it. The telling of the story is as important as the story itself, and you just can't achieve that with "documentation"........
It's a very Western belief that history must be, "written down" in order to be "authentic". That's why Heroditus (sp?) was able to sneak over to Egypt, steal ideas, creep back home to Greece, write that shit down a lil' sumpin' sumpin' and take all the credit. Peep
Greek mythology, it's nothing but African mysticism................
"Y'all don't believe fat meat greasy!!"-my mama

The idea of Performing History is amazing. Now, since hisoty is basically the root of "culture", is culture something that is performed as well? And if so, what is the performance of culture based on? Can people of a given culture take part in other cultural performances? Does that weaken or strengthen the original performance? Is the phenomenon of the white rapper a phenomenon of a kind of blackface performance? How 'bout when they use the word "n*gga"? What kind of culture is being performed when words like "n*gga/er" jump from cultural group to cultural group? Does the performance of "Hip-Hop culture" transcend ethnic culture?

love and respect,
El Rey
"I prefer to speak of the impossible, because we already know too much about what is possible" Silvio Rodriguez
"If our profanity offends you, look around you and see how destructively society is profaning itself. I had the dope mini-essay all ready fuh ya, and I just lost it!!!! aaaaargh! But, what I HAD said, in a nutshell, is yes, cross-cultural connections have been happening for thousands of years.....hell.....most of us (85% of black people) are products of them! so, I think that as long as we remember that "culture" (and think of hip hop culture here....)is inclusive of beliefs, practices, religion, ritual, food, music, art, language, demographics, etc., not just "rockin' FUBU"............
Culture is commodified in this country, and that's why a lot of people get angry about what's happened to hip-hop. When Burger King uses "Bling Bling" instrumentals in their commercials, that ain't no damn cultural "exchange" that's straight jackin!
"Y'all don't believe fat meat greasy!!"-my mama

What we know as "European" cultural norms are nothing if not an amalgum of cultures of those who ruled in that area . . . including (and perhaps especially) Africans. That ish is wild to me.
Once everyone came over here it was all over! There is no "pure" culture. We've (Americans) always borrowed from everyone that has ever come together on these shores. That's why I laugh at black nationalists and white supremacists alike.
On another note, it is sad that we keep re=performing the same old tired history/culture of domination and brutality against people of color. The question then becomes, how do we imagine a different performance of history? How do we move through history (and history through us) without recreating, reimagining, and reperforming it?
love and respect,
El Rey
"I prefer to speak of the impossible, because we already know too much about what is possible" Silvio Rodriguez
"If our profanity offends you, look around you and see how destructively society is profaning itself. That's why the griot's stories changed according to who was the storyteller. The "story" is history, and the "performance" is our impact/contribution to history. And that, my friend, is ever-changing. Kinda like how black music evolves and changes according to what's going on socially/politically. If we're complacent, the music's complacent. If we're fired up, the music is fired up (Think about the Mos Def intro). The same goes for history. We can't get past the re-invention re-telling part, cuz that's who/how we are. You mentioned Malik's line in Proceed as being wack, however even though thought is my favorite emcee, how do you explain his line "Ladi Dadi who likes to party like Slick Rick the ruler I'm cool as an ice brick." sure Malik's line is simple, but so was that line by thought on the same song. Secondly, how can you front on a man that has stayed as close to BT in skill and rapping in his shadow in the same group? it's not that easy, but here's a few examples why I think he's almost as good:
"I leave the microphone intrigued by my practice, this rebel sticks your system like a cactus, a boy's sadness." It just don't stop
"my thoughts contain the plus sign plus the malice, not equating to your wonderland so fuck alice." also from just don't stop
"it don't matter that, your glass house I'll shatter that, bad luck I'll walk under now show me where the ladder at." No great pretender
"i walk across this world as decepted, beats are perfected the ghettos infested, with more destruction my vocal erruption will speak about corruption with no introduction, approach me with caution......leaving niggas stiff like i'm starchin, departin, hollywood samples are jokes just like Martin." Step in the realm
Don't front on Malik cause of a few weak lines, he's definitely worthy of being with the roots
----------------------------------------
"I got the US Open without playing tennis" -Punchline
"I'm on a Quest for Love like the proceed drummer." -Common
Mecca

that's a beautiful thang...

On the strength Malik B has some official lyrics. Any head that's seen him freestyle at a show knows this. His range of topics and style is ridiculous to...in one rhyme he might talk about something as ill as Armegedon and then be comical and talk about meeting girls in the street. The point I'm trying to make is that Malik B is official and he's down with an official crew...The Roots!! Maybe you should come by the Wetlands during a Black Cactus and find out for self, nahmean!

Aight, first of all, this post was not a cry for attention. Anybody who gets on the internet to get attention and hopes and prays for a "display all" sign is a herb. If you get excited when you see a "display all" next to your post, you are a herb.
Second, I'm not ignorant. I've heard all the verses y'all have posted. What's the point of listing songs? I own the Roots last three albums (excluding TRCA). I've been to the Roots show (sans Malik, of course). I know what I'm talking about. I'm just as big a Roots fan as y'all (well, maybe not, cause some a y'all are crazy as eff).
Third, why the name calling and ish? I question Malik's skills and all of a sudden I'm a "clown"? Heads comin at me on some "if you think you're better, then pick up a mic and blah blah blah..." Yo. I'm not getting paid to emcee. Malik is. Other people tryin to fight me and ish? What is that? Is this the OkayArtist DISCUSSION board, or the OkayArtist Dickriding board. I'm serious, y'all. If I would have come on here like "MALIK B SUCKS!! -NM-" then you can call me out. But I actually had somethin to say. I'm sayin, is this gonna be a discussion or not? If I'm gonna get another 30 responses like "Malik is the illest, how can you not see it?" with no explanation, then let's kill this thread now. Whatever.
Back on topic. Those verses y'all posted. Unimpressive. They're simply not that good. I'll call out his verse from "Step Into The Realm" since more than one of y'all singled it out as a standout verse.
"Yo, I walk a-cross this, world that's deceptive
Beats are perfected, the ghetto's infested
with more destruction, my vocal eruption
was speakin bout corruption with no introduction
Approach me with caution cause I spark losses
M-Illitant the rap arson, marchin
Leavin niggaz stiff like I'm starchin, departin
Hollywood samples are jokes just like Martin..."
Is this what passes for impressive lyricism around here? Seriously. I mean, the first four lines. He says absolutely nothing. He has said nothing. The words rhyme, true, but this is on some Big Pun ish. "Approach me with caution, cause I spark losses"? That's weak. It barely rhymes. Then he calls himself "the rap arson"? Does he know that arson is the crime and not the criminal? "Leavin niggaz stiff like I'm starchin..." Now there's a decent simile. It's simple, but it's original. I've never heard it used anyway. "Hollywood samples are jokes just like Martin..." Jokes just like Martin. That's not the illest simile I've ever heard. It's extremely simple. I guess it's effective in the rhyme scheme, but I'm sayin. This man's rhymes are too simple "More drama than a soap opera"? That's some simple Emceeing 101 ish. And he's always sayin stuff like that. And he's never said anything deep. Just a bunch of cliches thrown together. The world is deceptive. The ghetto's infested. Blah blah blah. Do you not understand that these are cliche phrases? HE HASN'T SAID ISH!
Somebody said that he's ill, considering the fact that he's constantly in Thought's shadow. I disagree with that. If you have skills, you shine. Period. Inspectah Deck, for example, is under Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface, RZA, ODB's shadows. All 'a them have personalities or whatnot that overshadow his immensely. Yet, most people regard Deck as the illest lyricist in the Clan. Why? Cause he has skills. Period. He says mad ish that just blows people away. When he's spittin lines like "move mountains with the presence alone, before the words rip through the microphone, chrome dipped lyrics are known to split stone..." or "suplex your rep, left ruined like the Aztecs, parasites, double edge dice your larynx..." That's how shines. And I'm just usin Deck as an example that being in someone's shadow (or many people's shadow) has nothing to do with whether or not you shine on the mic. So that argument is invalid. If Malik were comin with some ill verses, he'd get props from me whether he rapped under Thought, Common or Puff Daddy.
Lastly, saying Malik is a nice complement to Thought is called justification. That's like saying Mase was a nice complement to Biggie. After all, Biggie had a hard, sometimes violent voice and flow, and Mase was laidback and slow. Whatever. While that may or may not be true, that says nothing about Mase's skill level. He may have been a perfect contrast/complement to Biggie, but if he sucked then he sucked, period. And I'm not sayin Malik sucks. I can't say that. I've never heard him freestyle (or perform live), and personally, I put a good deal of stock in freestyle skills. But I'm sayin that his writtens - what he comes with on albums, on records - it's simple and unimpressive. Nah, I don't think Malik sucks at all. I felt like he improved a lot on TFA, but his skills still aren't up to par with the high quality of hip-hop that the Roots bring to the table. That's basically what I'm sayin.

34. "An okayteacher's lesson"
In response to Reply # 32

See now here I am on my lunch break at school and it seems that the Okayteacher has to give an Okaylesson to some of yall youngins! (just jokes but I am on lunch now)

Two points to make here:
Point 1: Micha you are right in the sense that you have the right to voice your opinion and that those who disagre with you should use a higher form of intellect in debating your postion and opnion on the skill level of Malik B.
Point 2: I still though disagree with you on the skill level of Malik B. Reason being is that Mailk B does say alot of deep and signifigant mind blowing rhymes on the Roots albums. Now forgive me but I dont remember they lyrics verse by verse-but ill try at least to explain my point.
For starters I think Malik shines best not on TFA but on Illadelph Halflife (thats another debate for another time). Listen to songs such as "It Just Dont Stop" and "Episodes" his verbal depiction of life is one which comes through as both dark and eery while being razor sharp lyrically at the same time. To me he mostly shines on "No Great Pretender" And if you listen closely all his rhymes do make sense. This personally is my favorite Roots track because it hits hard for us Black Militants in the truest sense of the word in our fight against those who look to Pretend to be our allies and friends in the struggle for equality. His depiction of many of the false images and fale information is stirring.
Once again its just my opnion but I think that you need to take a deeper listen to what Malik says on ALL his songs not just a few and I think you would see a differnece.
But like I said, its just my opnion.
Peace
L'mani aka "Mr. Viney-The Okayteacher"
I agree with you on the lyric tip, but seriously, no one out there writes so well that they have perfect lyrics everytime...thats imposible
Do everyone a favor. Make a list of who you think are the top 5 MC's of recent years.
Then you'l see how if someone puts their mind to it, they can disect anyone's written lines and find crazy flaws. Sometimes you gotta sit back and judge an MC on wheather or not he can make your head nod. Malik can do that a lot more often than not. I might be the only one, but at times, Malik gets me goin more than BThought. In my eyes, he doesn't get the credit he deserves.
listen to him on "Da Jawn" w/ bahamadia...he rips it on that ish...except for the line talkin about "if your girl cooch stink...masengil"
Plus, malik has a nice ability to mix in Arabic in his lyrics...and the words make perfect sense in relation to waht he's talkin about.
for example:
"that shits deader than, niggaz wit a mortitiona'
a 'jenaiza'...."
jenaiza meaning funeral in Arabic of course
But I guess i must respect your opinion cause in the end thats all that is...in my opinion Malik delivers as well as Thought and Dice isn't at their level yet. Without malik, it just wouldn't be the same...even you would realize that if ever an album was put out without malik.
Purest example of that is most of the Roots' shows...never as good as they could be if Malik doesn't perform.
"you start to die the day you are born" - one of the black guys in The Renaissance Man

"Fast, plays HARD D, rebounds, block shots, dunks at will, got a 3-ball, medium range J, got handles and 7 feet tall.....he is a player u used to make up on Live '96 but he is the real thing!!" - bnicedh on Kevin Garnett

I'm sayin tho.
that is what U can call straight up dick riding.
U have all the right to express your opinions, and as opposed to a lot of heads in here did back up your claims. that's what's fucked up with some 'fans' not only on okayplayer but in general. U say something about their someone they like that's sort of a celebrity and they jump on your ass.
and i definitely agree wit that display all comment U made.
what i don't agree with is your view of MB as an emcee or rather not as an emcee. to say that he shouldn't be called an MC is a little too harsh (actually a lot). i could make this into a discertartion, but i personally don't like very long posts so...
U can't just judge an MC by just one aspect such as his lyrics, which btw i do like. just take a look at everyone @ OKAYPLAYER.COM's favorite mc, NAS. that man is definitely proven himself lyrically (tho i haven't heard NASTRADAMUS) but that don't mean that all his joints are ill. actually he's made plenty of wack songs. but he definitely is better lyrically than thought or MB (damn i'm gonna get ripped for this one). he knows (knew?)how to put words together, but the fire he once had to drive those words out his mouth appears to have dwindled. Malik is one of those mc's that has mad intensity when he approaches the mic. he might not stand out like Comm, Jay-Z, or even thought, but he can stand up on his own.
now if U just don't like his steez, then there's nothin we can do for U, i myself don't like a couple of 'mcs' for no reason whatsoever.
peace
"Can't worry 'bout what another nigga thank, now that's liberation and baby, I want it"
-Andre Benjamin

Who are u to say that Malik is a wack artist? In most hip-hop/okayplayer discussions I have with friends Malik is always recognized as a skilled artist. A couple of heads that I've come across had to argue with me cause they said they were at a party or what not and had friends that battled him and have said to won. If this is true or not you have to realize that Malik is just like the rest of us and likes to party and have fun so if this is the case with u, you need to realize that not all artists are always on point to battle or rhyme when there out just chillen with friends.
So lay off the drugs and stop talkin isshh.
peace,
netbomber

unlike these "more literate than you" cats who sit at home writin ridiculously intricate rhymes which are too convoluted to follow most of the time... malik's one of those mc's who's dope on the freestyle, has a good flow, and sometimes writes rhymes that aen't the deepest. The example you use, from proceed, is a good example of an mc in perfect tune with the track. proceed is a light jazzy joint, no need for deep, esoteric lyrics here. Please do not jock Malik simply because he knows how to speak Arabic. His use of another language isn't improving the creativity of his rhymes at all. Case in point, was anybody jocking Mase when he was like, "Horse and Carraige, mamacita, say seniorita..."? NO! Because Mase sucked. Knowing another language and using it in a rhyme does not make you any more creative or talented. All it does is piss people off cause nobody knows what the eff you're saying.
Yo, why is it that some people jock emcees based solely on the fact that they can't understand what the emcee is saying so they assume it must be deep? The ish isn't deep. Ghostface is not deep, get off his dick. Camp Lo aren't deep, get off their dicks. First off-I compliment you for having enough balls to step into a Roots forum and try to play one of it's misunderstood members. First off-you have claim Malik has no skills, and he's simplistic. You also disagree with what he says, and that it's justified that he should be out of the Roots for the young protege, Dice Raw.
Now here is where I disagree, Malik has on numerous accounts laid down some of the most trivial vocals and yet they are simplistic, they get the objective across to the listener. You seem to have alot of knowledge on what an emcee should and shouldn't spit, yet you come off as an arrogant poster who seems to have distaste for a really misunderstood emcee. Clear and concise, Malik is Mailk, the unknown entity within the Roots realm, I've seen him freestyle his ass off, wild out, and then act calm. He's a treat to watch cause he emboddies what most wanna-be emcees aspire to be, a talented lyricist who is rough and rugged.
Now for the REBEL INS remark: it's clear that he is the second nicest to GZA, but he is overshadowed by his peers in the group, that is truly different with Malik, he is essential to the group's chemistry. Meth doesn't need INS to make a hit, the Roots put Malik in to have a street edge to things with his sharp lyrics. Thought hits the fan, while Malik cleans up (Jordan and Pippen style). INS is an underground sensation, and we all know he has skills, but he's just overlooked just like MALIK.
Yo-micah-you need to listen to Malik alittle more-his references to Islam, and other witty lines are truly good lyricism. And if you still doubt it, well then that's you..I got no beef with that, it's just that you are overlooking someone who has good skills.

"Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun" Mao Tse-Tung
"For whom do we aspire to reflect our own people's death?
For whose entertainment shall we sing our agony?
In what hopes, that the destroyers aspiring to extinguish us, will suffer remorse at their own fantastic success?
The last imbecile to dream such a dream is dead, killed by the saviors of his own dream."
Ayi Kwei Armah
"Decipher prophecies on inane species"-Asian Disciple of Original Mindstate
Abacus-also known as Flo Brown's numero uno fan !!!!!!!!

In response to Reply # 62

First & foremost, micah, I tried to reason with your responses but this one stood out like a sore thumb...you went overboard, son. Now to call out someone & call them a "dick rider" is blatant since you don't even know, sis. Now I'm not about to let out some personal shit but Nebbie & M-illitant are close friends, and that's besides the point of her sticking up for his lyrical prowess. I know that you don't know the sister personally, but to flat out and call someone a "dick rider" is fucked up. I hope that you can retract what you wrote, & apologize to her before shit gets deep.
Nebbie-you know that Killa Queens heads got your back, I got love for my Philly-Philly brethren...I'm a hunt that emu of yours when I'm back in Philly...I hope son hasn't got you bent over what he wrote though.

That was an absolutely TERRIBLE post. You gave no arguments as to why Malik is nice. All you said is some metaphor shit.. talkin bout "BT and Malik are the Jordan and Pippen of this shit".
Ok, then I say "Capone and Noreaga are the Jordan and Pippen of this shit"... does that make Nore any less wack cause I said that? No.
Only thing y'all can say for Malik is he can freestyle... which he can, but that is only ONE FACET of being an emcee.
Lyrically he is just detestable... flow-wise, he's ok, but nothing special, or original. His voice is very plain and non-exciting.
This is evidence of a very average/mediocre emcee, and nothing more.

Dun...if you read between my lines, I did prove that Malik is an adequate emcee, that Jordan/Pippen metaphor was to simplify that shit for knuckleheads...and to base my writing on that simple one part of my post.

And the ONLY thing you said that was credible was that Malik could freestyle. Yeah, the problem is all of his WRITTEN shit sounds like one of my WEAK freestyles.
He is weak. He can freestyle. HOORAY! Too bad his lyrics are very below average, hivoice and delivery are terribly mediocre, and his rhymes have absolutely NO content at any time.
You'd like to contest this? That would be silly.

Son-first of all, you got the audacity of putting down Malik, and the nerve to try to serve me up a redundant response to my thread. Well, let's see, you proclaim that Malik is only a talented freestyle lyricist, and you also claim that his verses are only average at best, or maybe enven below average. That's completely non-cipher, son. Let me hit you off with a lineage of his accomplishments: "Organix" album (Remedy Records 1993)-Malik kills it on "The Session", "From the Ground Up ep" (Talkin' Loud/Geffen 1994-the HARDEST Roots album to find-even ?uestlove asked me where I got this shit)-Malik does adequate work on "It's Comin." I'm not even going to mention the other four albums since my brethren covered it all, so i'm going to hit you off with some more jewels from the enigma we know as Malik.
"Meiso" DJ Krush (London/Ffrr/Mo Wax 1995)-Malik destorys the microphone on this joint with lines like: "Can I get a witness to dismiss Christmas, from the mythless, man that's bogus, I try to remain focused", and "Ill elements, drop intelligence, Black Thought, Malik B, fuck other aerial events".
"Kollage" Bahamadia (Chrysalis 1995)-On "Da Jawn" where Malik drops a non-stop barrage of lyrical wisdom for the listeners: "Most of y'all niggas with your legislation, revoke your recitation, and continue with my recitations." "Icons, I will just strangle just like a python, your less than shit, I'll desolate like Saigon." "Now we can talk with tongues, and spark with the guns, whatever you want it, Allah protects me when I'm confronted."
Not to mention the numerous Proceed Remix joints, and his attributions to other gems. Word life-I respect your opinion, but when you bring it to cat like me, come clean, or don't come within my cipher at all.
Abacus-also known as Flo Brown's numero uno fan !!!!!!!!

is your name eminem?... because you are FUCKINí CRAZY!! Malik B is NICE!
I really hope that you are Rakim posting under a different name if youíre going to talk all that shit! Let me guess... Youíre probably one of the Talib Kweli haters too, arent you?
True, those few lines that you quoted from Proceed (which I might add, came out 6 years ago) were a little simplistic, but you canít judge him by 4 lines. You could pick any MC and find a few random lines that are below par. As nice as Thought is, Iím sure I could go back and find 4 random lines from his early work that were simplistic. But if you look at his and Malikís shit as a whole, theyíre virgin tight.
My only complaint about Malik is that he doesnít tour so I missed him when I saw the Roots. Oh well.
You bugginí B.
peace
incognito & takiní it EZ

Malik B is NICE!
>
>I really hope that you are Rakim
>posting under a different name if
>youíre going to talk all that
>shit!
Again, if Roger Ebert criticizes Denzel for his performance in Glory (he didn't, by the way, this is just hypothetical), does that mean that Ebert thinks he's a better actor than Denzel? Or that he could have played the role better? No. So again, stop with the "then you get on the mic" logic.
>Let me guess... Youíre probably
>one of the Talib Kweli haters
>too, arent you?
No. Talib Kweli has lyrics. I'm not the biggest fan of his voice or flow, but he says some ill stuff sometimes. And I've NEVER heard him come on some simplistic Dr. Seuss nursery rhyme like Malik occasionally does.
>True, those few lines that you quoted
>from Proceed (which I might add,
>came out 6 years ago) were
>a little simplistic, but you canít
>judge him by 4 lines.
If I had the time, patience or caring, I could quote a hundred weak lines from Malik B. The fact that I singled out those four does not mean those are the only four weak lines he's ever spit.
>You
>could pick any MC and find
>a few random lines that are
>below par.
That's true, but usually you could also take that same emcee and find an equal, or much greater, number of lines that are way above par. With Malik you can't do that. Nobody on this board has posted an impressive verse from him yet. That's not to say he has none. I liked his performances on "Adrenaline" and "100% Dundee", but a couple nice verses (nice, not classic) do not cancel out years of bad lines.

Damn, this post really fucked with my head...have you not heard The Lesson Pt.3? Malik's spit was cleary the best. Table of contents part too? his solo joints on things fall apart? Distortion to Static? Swept Away? If anything I think he needs more mic time(I say he's better than Thought, but thats just my opinion)
"......" - CHiEF

Would you like to accept the challenge?
And I don't think you were talkin to me, but Talib Kweli is nice. Why? Because he has a little thing called NICE LYRICS. Malik DOES NOT.
