"The Roots and Jay-Z could it ever happen?"

Eves done it, shes versatile enough to be believable on "you got me"
Beanie Sigels done it.

Jay-Z's a fan evidently if he was in hammerstein, Jay Dee supposedly has some beats on his new album.

Whether it be just production or jigga on a roots song, this could be what blows them past the stratosphere, of course the music wouldnt be compromised, as well this could be what could get the "el-p and kool keith rule jay-z is wack" troop to open their blinded eyes to his skills. What do yall think?

Becuase Doing a collab with the Roots, Jay Dee, etc sure as hell ain't going to revoke his wack status.

Jay-Z is utterly wack.

Anybody that write this shit will forever remain wack:

Uhh, uh uh uh
It's big pimpin baby..
It's big pimpin, spendin G's
Feel me.. uh-huh uhh, uh-huh..
Ge-ge-geyeah, geyeah
Ge-ge-geyeah, geyeah..

You know I - thug em, fuck em, love em, leave em
Cause I don't fuckin need em
Take em out the hood, keep em lookin good
But I don't fuckin feed em
First time they fuss I'm breezin
Talkin bout, "What's the reasons?"
I'm a pimp in every sense of the word, bitch
Better trust than believe em
In the cut where I keep em
til I need a nut, til I need to beat the guts
Then it's, beep beep and I'm pickin em up
Let em play with the dick in the truck
Many chicks wanna put Jigga fist in cuffs
Divorce him and split his bucks
Just because you got good head, I'ma break bread
so you can be livin it up? Shit I..
parts with nothin, y'all be frontin
Me give my heart to a woman?
Not for nothin, never happen
I'll be forever mackin
Heart cold as assassins, I got no passion
I got no patience
And I hate waitin..
Hoe get yo' ass in
And let's RI-I-I-I-I-IDE.. check em out now
RI-I-I-I-I-IDE, yeah
And let's RI-I-I-I-I-IDE.. check em out now
RI-I-I-I-I-IDE, yeah

Chorus One: Jay-Z

We doin.. big pimpin, we spendin G's
Check em out now
Big pimpin, on B.L.A.D.'s
We doin.. big pimpin up in N.Y.C.
It's just that Jigga Man, Pimp C, and B-U-N B
Yo yo yo.. big pimpin, spendin G's
We doin - big pimpin, on B.L.A.D.'s
We doin.. big pimpin up in N.Y.C.
It's just that Jigga Man, Pimp C, and B-U-N B

Nigga it's the - big Southern rap impresario
Comin straight up out the black bar-rio
Makes a mill' up off a sorry hoe
Then sit back and peep my sce-nawr-e-oh
Oops, my bad, that's my scenario
No I can't fuck a scary hoe
Now every time, every place, everywhere we go
Hoes start pointin - they say, "There he go!"
Now these motherfuckers know we carry mo' heat than a little bit
We don't pull it out over little shit
And if you catch a lick when I spit, then it won't be a little hit
Go read a book you illiterate son of a bitch and step up yo' vocab
Don't be surprised if yo' hoe stab out with me
and you see us comin down on yo' slab
Livin ghetto-fabulous, so mad, you just can't take it
But nigga if you hatin I
then you wait while I get yo' bitch butt-naked, just break it
You gotta pay like you weigh wet wit two pairs of clothes on
Now get yo' ass to the back as I'm flyin to the track
Timbaland let me spit my pro's on
Pump it up in the pro-zone
That's the track that we breakin these hoes on
Ain't the track that we flow's on
But when shit get hot, then the glock start poppin like ozone
We keep hoes crunk like Trigger-man
Fo' real it don't get no bigger man
Don't trip, let's flip, gettin throwed on the flip
Gettin blowed with the motherfuckin Jigga Man, fool

Chorus Two: Bun B

We be.. big pimpin, spendin G's
We be.. big pimpin, on B.L.A.D.'s
We be.. big pimpin down in P.A.T.
It's just that Jigga Man, Pimp C, and B-U-N B
Cause we be.. big pimpin, spendin G's
And we be.. big pimpin, on B.L.A.D.'s
Cause we be.. big pimpin in P.A.T.
It's just that Jigga Man, Pimp C, and B-U-N B.. nigga

Uhh.. smokin out, throwin up, keepin lean up in my cup
All my car got leather and wood, in my hood we call it buck
Everybody wanna ball, holla at broads at the mall
If he up, watch him fall, nigga I can't fuck witch'all
If I wasn't rappin baby, I would still be ridin Mercedes
Chromin shinin sippin daily, no rest until whitey pay me
Uhhh, now what y'all know bout them Texas boys
Comin down in candied toys, smokin weed and talkin noise

Chorus Two

See....I tend to listen to an MC like they are talkin to me, like we are tryin to vibe....Read Jay-Z's lyrics, use "Big Pimpin" lyrics becuase I posted them above...

Forget about the admittly tight ass beat.

Forget for the moment the way Jay-Z supposedly spits it.

Read the lyrics like you was just chillin somewhere talkin to this kat over a beer.

What would you think of him?

Idiot. Immature. Materialistic. Irresponsible. Etc.

In my opinion, contrary to popular believe IT IS NOT ALL about the beat or how the MC spits it, but what does he got to say...........as boring as I think his voice is, it is why Talib is one my favorites right now...

How do I feel about Jay-Z? See my Mos Def Quotes below.

Carry On.

i would be kind of surprised if black thought and jayz did a song together because they both rap something totally different i mean i dont know its like lauryn hill doing a song with lil kim i mean i think many people would think that collaboration is pretty interesting not to say that theres anything wrong for any of these people do a song together but each persons concept about that this whole rap game is different maybe that would be kind of hot though if two rappers who rap about totally different things and just rip it what do u think about what im sayin

opposite attract?

I knew the Jay-haters wouldnt have the balls to post one of his more lyrical songs as opposed to a song that did what it was engineered to do--sell records.

Jay has "formula hits" for singles and lyrical album cuts.

Jay-haters:

read this and honestly tell me its wack...Artist: Jay-Z
Album: Reasonable Doubt
Song: Regrets
Typed by: dj.flash@pobox.com

Stress
Sunshine, geyeah

I sold it all from crack to o-pium, in third person
I don't wanna see em, so I'm rehearsin
with my peoples high to GM, from a remote lo-cation
in the BM, scopin the whole situation like, "Dayamm!"
Metamorphic, as the dope turns to cre-am
but one of these buyers got eyes like a Korean
It's difficult to read em, the windows to his soul
are half closed, I put the key in
Pulled off slow, hopin my people flee-in
Chink tried to knock the only link that tied me in
Coppers was watchin us through nighttime binoculars
This time they got us on tape, exchangin dope for dollars
Make me wanna, holler back at the crib in the sauna
Prayin my people bailed out like Time/Warner
Awaitin call, from his kin not the coroner
Phone in my hand, nervous confined to a corner
Beads of sweat second thoughts on my mind
How can I ease the stress and learn to live with these regrets
This time... stress... givin this shit up... fuck

Chorus One:

This is the number one rule for your set
In order to survive, gotta learn to live with regrets
On the, rise to the top, many drop, don't forget
In order to survive, gotta learn to live with regrets
This is the number one rule for your set
In order to survive, gotta learn to live with regrets
And through our travels we get seperated, never forget
In order to survive, gotta learn to live with regrets

As sure as this, Earth is turning souls burning
in search of higher learning turning in every direction seeking direction
My moms cryin cause her insides are dyin
her son tryin her patience, keep her heart racin
A million beats a minute, I know I push you to your limit
but it's this game love, I'm caught up all in it
They make it so you can't prevent it, never give it
you gotta take it, can't fake it I keep it authentic
My hand got this pistol shakin, cause I sense danger
like Camp Crystal Lake and
don't wanna shoot him, but I got him, trapped
within this infrared dot, bout to hot him and, hit rock bottom
No answers to these trick questions, no time shit stressin
My life found I got ta live for the right now
Time waits for no man, can't turn back the hands
once it's too late, gotta learn to live with regrets

Chorus Two:

You used to hold me, told me that I was the best
Anything in this world I want I could posess
All that made me want is all that I could get
In order to survive, gotta learn to live with regrets... (when I was young)
(repeat 2X)

I found myself reminiscin, remember this one
when he was here he was crazy nice with his son
I miss him, long as I'm livin he's livin through memories
He's there to kill all my suicidal tendencies
In heaven lookin over me, or in hell, keepin it cozy
I'm comin life on these streets ain't what it's supposed to be
Remember Newton, mutual friend well me and him feudin
On your life I tried to talk to him
But you know niggaz, think they guns can stop foe niggaz
Frontin like they're, Big Willie but really old niggaz
Hoe niggaz, this year I'm sho' niggaz think I'm slippin
I'm bought to send you a roommate, no bullshittin
for my hustle's goin too well to hit him
You was right niggaz want you to be miserable wit em
Anyway, I ain't tryin to hear it, I think I'm touched
this whole verse I been talkin to your spirit, a little too much

Chorus One: repeat 2X

I, for one, would love to see a Black Thought --- Jay Z collabo, over a tight ass ?uest/JayDee/Poyser or Scott Storch beat. (Can you imagine Thought and Jigga over the Still DRE beat Scott did for Dr. Dre....shit jigga wrote Dre's rhymes for that song).

That would be the hot shit!!! Jay - Z is an ill lyricist. I don't care if he raps about Bentley's and ice....ock has skills.

Look, Jay's al-right...
but, at the same time he's not saying anything for real and what he does saying i haven't heard all he does spit it with a little more wit, pinache(sp) and confidence than most. I like Reasonable Doubt but the rest of his joints are wack, everynow and then he says something that illicits a litle giggle...

Face it a Good Rapper he is, a Blaze MC' he isn't....

I mean, it would be interesting to hear, no doubt?
Don't you think that Jay-Z w/ Black Thought, would, if indeed dude is wack to you, challenge Jay-Z to raise his level of MC'ing? Maybe he's wack cuz he's hanging around the wackness of his crew. Hook him up w/ some dope acts, then we'll judge.

Nice post, atruhead.

In response to Reply # 15

Man, even on the most BUBBLEGUM ass beats Jay still finds a way to come with original wordplay and angles on his mild range of topics. Half the MC's doin it right now are paraphrasing Jay-Z's shit. I cant explain but he aint wack, and he still got it. Just a great lyricist... gotta respect dat. Now, Jay-Z and Thought... ok, might sound good, might turn out good, or maybe classic but why? I see no reason for it other than giving Thought mainstream publicity and Jay-Z okayplayer respect. And I doubt either of them are begging for these respective audiences attention... but... it might work, thing is, i think Jay-Z charges Michael Jackson rates for colabos... might be a problem

well I've expressed mine....I would LOVE to see a Jay-Z/Roots or Jay Z/Black thought collabo. i think it would be a real nice change for both artists...allow Black Thought to escape this underground back packing dungeon he currently resides in and allow Jay-Z to step out of his iced out, Bentley riding fantasy world. Sorta meeting half way and allowing each to spread their wings and their skills a little. Great idea!!!!

Dungeon = underground, dark, basement

Jiggy (fantasy world) = above ground, bright, blingin'

Get what I'm sayin'??? There has to be a middle ground where the two dope emcees can meet.

Even though I think Jay-Z has sucked for a while now (not skill wise, but topically), It would be great to see 2 MC's with such Lyrical Dexterity flow over a bangin track. Shit, I Still bump Jay-Z and Big L's freestyle from 95 like it was made yesterday....because like shawn said...its nice to see 2 MC's from Opposite ends of the spectrum meet on middle ground and come up with a true banger. You'd have to be an idiot to not admit Jay-z's level of skill. Yeah, yeah...."everybody is entitled to thier own opinon and blah blah blah."

no.

If Jay-Z was still "underground," nobody would even second guess him, and nobody argue the thought of he and the Roots Collaborating. Just like how TFA brought mainstream appeal to the Roots, and so many of these diehard "underground" herbs all the suddenly couldnt "connect" with the Roots anymore.

The problem with these underground cats is that they do, in fact, live in a dungeon, and as soon as someone works hard enough to climb out, they become angry at that persons success.
Get over it....Because if 'Masterpiece Theater' is successful, and helps Black Thought to break out of Backpacker Land...you'll lose yet another of your favorite MC's. And when that happens, will you talk about HIM the same way you talk about Jay Z?
Rather than set yourself up for a big letdown, just get used to the fact that the NYC Headwrap Crew dont pay the bills, and that these artists SHOULD strive to achieve mainstream success. If you really like them, you'll wish them luck, and support them till the end.
Peace,

Yep, you're right I am on the payroll....but what significance does that play in my opinion of Jay Z??? I'm on the Roots payroll not Roc-A-Fella. I tend to like more "commercial" shit than the average Roots fan. I've stated my opinions on this site many times and many times my opinions are not very popular. I don't like Q-Tip or De La Soul, however I do like Jay Z and Prodigy. When the song "Bling Bling was hot....I loved that shit. me being on The Roots payroll has nothing to do with my opinion on the potential "dopeness" of a collabo between Thought and Jigga. you lost me there Mr. Engineer.

this is the ish that wesley snipes is talking about in the TFA (Mo' Betta) intro.

there's nothing to stop the artists from collaborating if they want to (except for circumventable label requests). since both mc's are talented, i'm confident the song would at least be lyrically good. sure some people hate jay for his flashy shit and some people think black thought lacks a dynamic personality, but i think that a duet would bring out the best in both of them. powers that be, make it happen.

a track with jay-z might be good. Half of the east coast sound like jay so he gets kinda tiresome, but he's still the shit. The track would be a way to get away from the cliche's (in 96 it was west coast vs east in 2g its 'underground vs commercial') which is just wak.

Yo I would be hella interested in a collabo. I'm of the opinion that Jay is cool, I 've been down since the reasonable doubt "dead presidents" single came out. I'm also of the opinion that son has been letting me down lately; way too jiggy. I didn' tbuy his last two joints if that tells you anything. MTV jam of the week and all that. He went out like Jerry Macguire, show me the $. But he is tighter than a lot of these other cats despite alladat. My man still got skills but he str8 went to the darkside. Peace
