"Official release - Jill Scott's Grammy nomination"
HIDDEN BEACH RECORDINGS DEBUT ARTIST JILL SCOTT RECEIVES THREE GRAMMY AWARD NODS
SCOTT’S SCHDEULED TO PERFORM JANUARY 17 ON NBC’S "TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO"
Los Angeles, CA...The Recording Academy announced today that singer Jill Scott, the debut recording artist for Hidden Beach Recordings, has received three Grammy Award Nominations: "Best New Artist," "Best R&B Female Vocal Performance" and "Best R&B Album of the Year" for her gold-selling album, Who Is Jill Scott? Words & Sounds. Vol. 1. The Grammy Awards will be announced on February 21 in a televised ceremony.
"Enormous pride hardly describes the feeling for our debut artist Jill Scott," says Steve McKeever, founder of Hidden Beach. "While making this record, we were always confident that Jill’s spirit and rare ability to capture emotion on tape would touch music lovers around the world. However, the overwhelming recognition, first by her fans and music critics, and now receiving one of the industry’s highest honors is truly a dream come true."
The nominations cap an outstanding year for the artist whose organic soul was not only critically acclaimed but also a music lovers’ favorite. Her music, which grew from the streets to the masses, has been recognized by major media outlets as among the year’s best. In fact, Who Is Jill Scott? was named the No. 1 R&B album by USA Today, was on Rolling Stone’s Top 50 Albums of the Year list, and ranked in the Top 10 for the Los Angeles Times, Washington Post and Philadelphia Inquirer. In addition, Scott was named by Vibe Magazine's Emil Wilbekin (editor-in-chief) as the "Artist to Watch for in 2001."
The accolades don’t stop there. Last month, Scott received four NAACP Image Awards nominations: "Outstanding New Artist"; "Outstanding Female Artist"; "Outstanding Song" for her first single, "Getting’ In The Way"; and "Outstanding Album."
When Who Is Jill Scott? was released on July 18 fans were determined to make the new musical artist a household name. Scott’s grassroots promotional campaign eventually took her and her unique music to the mainstream. The video for her first single, "Gettin’ In The Way" was in heavy rotation on BET, THE BOX and MTV and number one nationwide for three weeks. She’s performed sold-out shows the world over, including dates at the famed House of Blues in Hollywood where stars such as Denzel Washington, Quincy Jones, Halle Berry, Dan Aykroyd came out to see Scott in concert. Scott also performed the season opener for HBO’s "Chris Rock Show" and sang her latest single, "A Long Walk" on the popular "Late Night with Conan O’ Brien" TV show on Dec. 27. And the gifted vocalist is now scheduled to perform January 17 on NBC’s "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."
It’s obvious, people are no longer wondering "Who Is Jill Scott." She’s an artist poised to become a legend.

Yo! Automatic RESPECT for Hidden Beach and Jill Scott!
But fuck a "racist" Grammy Award and double "muthafuck" those "NNNNNNEEEEEGGGGGRRRRROOOOOOOOEEEESSSS" at the NAACP awards.
Jill deserves all the best. I just wish we had some award shows that "really" mean shit to Black folks. Like the "Marcus Garvey" award or "Billie Holiday Awards", or the Harriet Tubman Awards or Marian Anderson (another Philly sistren)Award.

"The choice, as every choice, is yours: to fight for freedom or be fettered, to struggle for liberty or to be satisfied with slavery, to side with life or death. Spread the word of life far and wide. Talk to your friends, read, and open your eyes-even to doorways of perception you feared to look into yesterday. Hold your heart open to truth." -Mumia Abu-Jamal (inside cover of "Unbound Project: Volume 1")
ATTENTION!!!If you have not read "THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MALCOLM X," you MUST. I am now at forks in the road because of this book; it seriously changed me forever.
"Dreams of being a doctor will deteriorate, Taking over the underworld was a clearer fate, Luxury cars, 100 girls in my face laced in name brand, Had my game planned mapped out, Lost respect for those cracked out, Most of my elders were failures, To the poison that killed Len Bias, From being Celtic, The later I would hang, the greater my slang...." --Nas, "Teenage Thug"

People hold on to religion, like a crutch because they can't make it any other way. With religion you stop being responsible for your own actions and blame someone else like God when it's something you like and the Devil when it's something you don't like.
