"discuss new jazzy's track here..."

i'll start it off, since...well...i'm starting off.

lovin' the bassline. has a jeep feel to it, but still with the jazzy sound we've grown to know and love. nice groove, and i think it will fit really well into the album. played it about 5 times already this morning, so that's saying something. in fact, lemme hear dat jawn again.

Hot Track indeed!! I sense there is an area in the song searching for a hot rhyme from Common or Talib or some Okayartist. It's like at the 2:20 mark I think. But definitely dope. I wish my VH1 Soul Channel would play some Jazzyfatnastee videos than I'll be complete.

I'll say its ok for right now. Maybe it will have to grow on me, maybe it was listening to it over the Internet...I don't know. But at first listen I didn't like the track (sounds like Scott Scortch did it...and I'm not really a fan of his) Their voices, as always is very on-point...so I'm not frontin on that, but I didn't like how it sat over the track (again, that might be the Internet sound). So if I had to rate this one overall...

I very much hope they use different producers or should I say a good mix of producers for the new joint.

definitely feelin this one. off of just initial listen it's good, gotta listen to it a little more indepth a few times to get a really good feel for it. but so far, the beat is nice (who did it?), i like how it starts out. kinda upbeat but not to fast. always feeling the vocals, they sing very well together. i saw someone mention that they would like to hear the Jazzies w/ Com or Talib, but i disagree, that was one of the things i liked on their first album. no guest artists. i'd rather hear them on someone else's track than hear someone on their track. that make sense? well, Merc and Tracey, i'm feeling this one. still love "Tumbling Down" (where's the real audio for that one?). can't wait till Black Lily comes back to the Wetlands so i can hear u ladies, as well as the rest of the Lilies, live and in person.

Smooth bass line elegantly complemented by the soulful voices of the two very lovely ladies of the Jazzys. This is one I can just chill to, read to, ride to, write to. Those are my favorite tracks. If the CD is anything like this, then it's gonna be bangin'. Keep doin' what y'all doin. I like it.

Is there such thing as too much harmonies? I'm feeling the beat alot. I don't know....sounds like their holding back on the vocals, They don't reach out and grab me. I don't know if that makes sense to you guys. And the toy-like keys at the beginning, i'm kinda ehhhhhh about. It sounds like Kamal, but I could be wrong, sounds like the tone of the keys on the last album.

Overall, I like the song. If I had to....6.5 - 7 out of 10.

Phil

This sound is totally different from their usual stuff. With the turntable reversing sounds in the background and slight samples here and there. The beat is really bangin'. It's growin' on me. I'm gonna have to play it a few more times though. Good work girls!

I was trying not to get hyped for this album but stuff like this does not help me at all, dammit!!!

A little bit of a different sound for them but that just shows they can branch out and still be some of the best out there today.

I'm lovin' this all around... ¡Excellente!

I can't play it. It's giving me an error message, which is strange (considering I can play real audio files from other sources).

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks for the feed-back everyone.

You're right about the sound.

I had to turn the volume all the way up and I still couldn't really hear it.

It makes me want to take it down but oh well.

We'll try to fix that.

If you're interested in my discussion of how and why this differs from other people's stuff and other Jazzy stuff for that matter, check out our journals.

I also posted the lyrics.

FYI-Scott didn't produce the track. He just played the keyboard part.

Thanks again y'all.

For whatever reason, the link in the "news" section doesn't work for me.

The link on the "news" page doesn't seem to work for me. I wasn't sure if my browser was somehow corrupting the link, or if my server at work doesn't like okayplayer.com (even though it gets along fine w/ hiphopsite.com et al.).

It would be great if the PTB posted an .mp3 file, but I understand that it's not always copasetic to release a work in progress like that. Perhaps if someone were so kind as to place it on a server *other than* the www.rbn.com setup that okayplayer uses to handle real media content, I could access it.

ok, here it is. I loved it personally. Nowadays, all the music on radiowaves is sooooo over produced and bland, everything is followed in the same formula patterns. The Jazzys, in my oppinion, come off very unpredictable, always bringing haunting melodies and deep subject matters. This track follows their "formula". I liked it a whole lot. Maybe, if I was to change something, I would have added another instrument, like another deeper string, but regardless, i enjoyed it. Keep doin it

After reading so many journal entries, I was wondering what all the strife was resulting in.

On to the track:

- Recognisable, good, Storch keys, which links the song to the Jazzy sound we're used to.

- Very nice background Oriental-sounding vocals. They're definitely not part of the Jazzy sound we're used to. Very good, although I was really surprised at first.

- The beat is bangin', as everyone said. "DJ Peter Parker" or J-Swift? Anyway, it was nice to also have the live instruments as well, as the guitar is very, very nice and discrete. I don't think I can really hear the cello on real audio. The bass is great too.

- Lyrics/singing are very good too. I just hope that the vocals are clearer on the CD version. They're virtually indecipherable on RA.

- Overall sound is very interesting, as it is somewhere between recognisable and off-kilter, which fits in perfectly with the ordinary family/dark side subject matter.

I obviously like this song a lot, and I hope that this is a kind of benchmark for the album, in that the other songs will also show some kind of departure from the "Once and Future" songs (not that I didn't like them).

I was wondering about this, too...did he change his stage name? should I hunt for DJ Peter Parker produced tracks now (I've been looking for J Swift stuff everywhere since Bizarre Ride...)?

Oops, my bad! I forgot most of you probably don't know I have TWO brothers who are producers.

My older brother, Pedro AKA "DJ Peter Parker" (the Black Lily DJ for all you Philly folks) and my younger brother John "JSwift" (of the Bizzare Ride/Pharcyde).

Fortunately BOTH of them have collaborated with us on "The Tortoise and the Hare."

i listened to it the first time and it kinda just rolled past. wasn't even sure if i'd heard it. 2nd time- head nodding. 3rd time-head nodding, ankles jigglin, and i'm trying to sing along (not pretty). Yup, i'm with (what seems 2 b) the overall opinion- it's a seed. plant it in your ears.

Wow. This song is incredible. Listening to it for the fourth time right now, and quite frankly I'm blown away. The lyrics, the beat, the singing...wow. This song is amazing.

I should admit that I don't have The Once and the Future...its been on my 'need to buy' list for about a year now, but for some reason I never picked it up. Sorry, I now see the error of my ways, and as soon as I have the money I'll be grabbing a copy. And I can't wait until Tortoise and the Hare drops so I can get a CD quality verion of this.

it's a track that's kind of indicative of something less 'safe' for the JFNs, imo.

i actually like it better than most of the songs i found on 'once and future'...

that voice through the vocoder sound is kinda fresh...

not too sure about the vocoder and the scratches though...I prefer on them on a more jazzy vibe...overall this song is dope...could get some serious airplay due to the ecstacy mentions...I could see Rahzel doing a "Lesson Pt. 2" type remix to this song...maybe on the single???

Dearest Mercedes,

First, praise God for helping you to "Hold Tight" (smile).

Second, folks betta recognize should God grant the Jazzyfatnastees with the financial promotion support, marketing wherewithal and networking expediency to sell this album just as well as Janet's ALL FOR YOU, SURVIVOR by Destiny's Child or any Nelly, Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys album.

Third, your journal quote forgot one group of people--and believe me, this group is definitely underrepresented in the media: Group 5--those who do understand what you're doing while hating you for it as well.

Last but not least, I have always held tight with you. I am loving you beyond the day I die whenever and however God deems it fit for me to leave this planet.

Peace and Love.

Man,

After reading all the posts...everyone is feeling it. Posted something all the way at the top of the list...expressing my dislikes of the song. I guess its just me, I just hope yall think I'm hating...I'm a big Jazzie fan from way back. I was lucky enough to catch your show with Roy Ayers and Ursula Rucker in Conn...off the hook, even though yall didn't stick around after the show to kick it with folks. Anyway, I would like to know who's producing on the album and when is it possibly coming out?
