I hated that video she did for Memphic blink though

shes not really batting 1000 with the only thing i really loved that she did was Soul Sister and that was kind of a take off of something else im not sure

... it is said that there are many other great Directors than the ones whose work we see. The trick, getting people to see your work to critique it. I don't knock 'Nzing... as i say, "Zing-Zing is workin her thing-thing".

She's doin it real big... and I wanna put it down on OKP real big. Yeah, that's it. Her "Love it" for Bilal was good, but "Soull Sista" was a take-on some still photo stuff from a female black&White shooter in New York. Beautful imagery, well conveyed on film... (but what the fu*k was that Memphis Weak, Mee, Bleek crap) Oh well... so long as the check cleared.

These are exciting times for us. Getting with an agency is my primary concern after completing a few more projects. (I like small budgets. They've humbled me. smile.)

Macy Gray is an MTV darling, and having her in the video ultimately got Com the MTV love and thus the nomination. But yeah, the video and remix was "THE WACK", me and Label Guy have had heated chats about this in the recent past. I thought I was the only OKP to view it as wack, I expect much better from Com. breakthrough video is like a weird, artsy video that's freakin me out and, uh, "new" and "fresh" or sum shit. it's a breakthrough for video, not for the artist (you're thinkin like best new artist in a video? nikka costa and alicia keys are up for that one). it's also one of 'em categories they keep on the low. they actually announce it during the preshow, i saw last year. last year's contestants were bizarre, there was like this blur video with a little carton of milk with a smiley face wandering the streets of some big city (nyc maybe? i dunno). forget who won.

The video was tight, but the music in my opinion was wack. i'm an avid common fan but i DTEST this remix. the original was dope as hell and seemed to go in a backwards motion with the music. but the video.... was REAL nice, camera work and effects were damn good. that's what the video awards are for though, images and not music, although it does help.

I think I'm the only one here that actually liked both, the T.S.O.I. remix and the video. I liked the way they did the video even though they bit the Jackson Five. Plus I like the remix because it was more up beat; everytime I heard it, it made me want to find a partner so we could step. I thought the remix brought his lyrics out more. I could pick out more of what he was saying compared to the sluggish and slow original (even though it did have a wicked bassline).

I actually like the beat, I just don`t think it fits the song (or Common, for that matter) too well. And Macy? Sorry, but it`s gonna take a lot more than your and D`s approval and involvment (which usually would hold a lot of weight for me) to make me change my mind about her. She reminds me of Janis Joplin. So the remix WAS meant for Chicago natives to step (2step) to. Mission accomplished......on that as well as capturing the T.S.O.P. sound.

As a fan of music we set our own individual standards. So in my musical universe (and in yours), if it sucks to you, it sucks. I was listening to an Elvis CD that a co-worker was listening to, and he does suck. It sounds so obvious that he trying to imitate black folks.

I feel you on the Nostalgia thing (Chicago and Philly Respectively), the sentiment was good, but the outcome left alot to be desired.

Based on the set you threw down at that spot with Nelly Furtado on 7/18, we usually see eye to eye musically, especially with the Black President (throw on UnKnown Soldier and see what happens, but even being a huge fan of MFSB, Gamble and Huff etc., I couldn't get with that remix, still got mad love.

?uest let me make a correction for you my afro-picked one...in Chicago it's just 'Steppin'(the dance) or 'Dusty Steppin'(the music).....Two-step is in Kansas City...trust me it is not the same and some Chi-town steppers would cut 'cha for even confusing the two ...dont get cha ish shot up, okay?

On the real as a transplanted Chicagoan, much love for puttin it down on the stepper's set tip...that's exactly what I did when I heard the song...mission accomplished!

THAT'S EXACTLY THE VIDEO TREATMENT THAT WAS TURNED IN A PICKED....VERBATIM !!! The even had Common & Macy Gray Colorforms which they stuck on the computer screen with the Space screen saver running to show us what they were talking about! We just KNEW it was gonna be a breakthrough vid !!!

I think the song and video were great. But it didn't get played a lot. Quite refreshing that a song with a decent message and great music got the nod...
Maybe it helped that Macy (a more commercially accepted artist was in it). Just ask BEP.

I actually like the Macy grey version of the song better. I like that Disco/70's vibe it has but the video was wack. It reminds me of that campy Flash Gordon movie from the 80's.
