?uest,
I hope u had a great b-day and a great week.
For your birthday, i'd like to share my thanks with you for the things u do.
Though i've never met u personally, you've allowed all that come to this site to glimpse a piece of what's on your mind by sharing alot of insight that most of us are not privy to.
I got turned on to the roots through the "distortion to static" single u guys released (i wasn't familiar with u guys up to that single). Over the years, i've tried to collect all vinyl & cd releases that u guys have put out as most fans would do.
I was fortunate enough to see u guys perform twice (both excellent), but the first time i seen u guys, u blew the place apart...not to mention being on the same bill as the fugees (i still can't understand why u opened up for them), unfortunately for the fugees, when u guys were done, they didn't stand a chance in grabbing the crowd.
There have been a few negatives...2 concerts being cancelled at almost the last minute...u know the shpiel from us fans on how we have to plan the day to go, or make arrangements for things in our lives to go...but for the most part, u guys can't control those things, so it's cool.
Your reviews and insights on projects as they are a work-in-progress is so cool for us fans who want to know everything.
Music-wise, i've listened to what u had to say about artists that moved you or who u think is worthy of recognition, and from those points of views, you have turned me on to some other producers and artists and made me see another angle of genius from these people.
So as we share a similar age, we also share that many years of experience and perspective's that are invaluable. We've seen the good (alot of memories on things as they came out then, which are now seen as classics..also being a part of the movement of urban music), and the not so good (the unpleasant changes as urban music has become the new 'toy' of these multinational corporations to continue making they're returns, and in the process sacrificing the pillars that this music was founded on -respect, creativity, street news for the people, and just having fun--do i sound jaded?? naaahh...lol).
Here's hoping that u continue to grow as a person spiritually, as well as musically.
I know this is long-winded, but for someone who's done alot for many (enlightening me on many things music-wise), you deserve a longer-than-normal b-day shout out.
Peace and respect, wishing u a banner year and many more years of being the best u can be!
