he did that with "you pronounce my name 'Kweli'" too. The vocal was all in his verses. its tighter in this one though.

im a kweli fan to the heart and I like the al green samplea lot, but I've heard much better from kanye west and some of the lyrics are quite corny. i may be in for a letdown if the rest of the album measures up with this track, its not horrible but i've heard better from both the artist and producer.

ex.

he said "i use my han(d) solo and I dont need chewie/Im over your head like yarmulkes and kufis"

if i put serious thought into it i could write better bars than that

So put some thought into it and come up with a better line about how your lyrics/ideas are over people's heads.

I'm not implying that Kweli's is an incredible line, but am wondering what would be it's competitor.

Thanks.

btw, this sounds like a hit to me.

dude is known for having those filler line similes, i ain't too mad at the "star wars" line. the overall song is strong, that's what counts. BUT this song is more nontopical battle/brag rap. I hope he doesn't do an album overburdened with these type of songs or it'll just be Train of Thought II. I expect homeboy to progress, especially since he consistently gets good beats to work with.

thats a refrence to how a lot of africans jumped overboard the slaveships. they would rather die than become slavery. a lot like the brave heart movie, "you can take my life, but you cant take my FREEDOM!"

This song sounds awfully black to me. I just don't know...it's too urban. I like my blacks nerdy or artsy. This one is maybe for the streets or something. I love Talib though. Keep it real homie!

- this song is pretty umm, not good. he rhymes sparingly, and when he does he says some corny shit. theres points where his flow comes together, but then it falls apart again. I hope this isnt the "Quality" of rap hes going to be bringin with his album.

> he rhymes
>sparingly, and when he does
>he says some corny shit.

nah, there are some cool lines in there. a lot of polysyllabic work and wordplay. example: "They say I'm positive/I'm positive I'm the best/Spit bullets to split your vest/Deposit em in your chest" - some polysyllabic thuggery with very basic wordplay (different meanings of positive)...Jay Z must be somwhere smiling

"Hammers is cocked and waiting/niggas is not debating" more polysyllabic thug lines from Mr. Kweli (for those who slept through class, dude has been mixing in thug references for a minute now)

"We make the squares dance" - basic wordplay, but mixes in commentary there on his fanbase (a little condescending though)

"My stance is of stamina, your verses lack the vertabrae" - this type of assonance isn't something he used to flip

He has some heat in there. Listen again.

i aint really feelin those lines, but in any case a few good lines doesnt make a good song, the song just seemed sloppy to me, its not very tight throughout the whole song, but like i said he has a few lines and his flow is real tight in places, but over all...

naw dog, the only similarity between this and any blueprint cut is the vocal sample, the feel of the beat is so not jigga

I just meant the thug wordplay and the gun references, Jay staples. Jadakiss is probably smiling too.

Eh, personally, I've had enough gun talk to last me a lifetime, but other people seem to be entertained by it.

its called a simile. he uses a lot of metaphors too. they're the basics in poetry. a valley girl says, "i have to get my hair done, like, today or, like, brad, like, wont take to the, like, school dance." you see, all those likes and not one simile, thats a big difference.

HOT!!
I see the street loving it. I can hear the DJ's play it right after " Oh Boy"
To each his own, but that's my type of Hip Hop. Not really preaching with a banger beat.

He had some nice wordplay. I'm feelin' the production. This is prolly the first I've heard of Talib in awhile. I haven't listened to R.E. in a long, long time.

I'll be checking for his album. He hasn't dissappointed me on record yet.

This is a club banger without being a radio club banger..

Talib dumbs down the lyrics some, but I don't know what these other cats talking about he rides the beat quit well actually...

The thug talk has always been apart of Kweli .. so that ain't nothing new ..

I likes...

peace...

its not really thug talk...its i can hold my own if you try to punk me talk...its dont try it, i aint a coward talk...its i got heart talk...its...its...you know what i'm sayin. Nore is thug talk, Jay is thug talk, but Kweli is I can defend my self, my family, and my cause talk.
