Marley Marl on hip hop today - The ingredients is just not in them no more. It's about something different right now. I mean a lot of new producers are so anti-sample, but rap was built off of sampling and scratching somebody's break and rhymin’ over it, so that's the elements. When you make spaghetti and you don't put spaghetti sauce on it, you don't have spaghetti and meatballs, you have spaghetti and meat.

bro, it's a shame, but i'm already rooting against cody. (and whoever else ?uestlove is for) instant gratification and acceptance from peers will always take a backseat to standing on your own.

my quote you ask?
The dude bugs me thats all. I'll admit, I'm not a Roots fan. I've seen a couple videos, and such. I think the concept of a hip hop band is cool. No beef with them or what they do. It's ?uest that comes off as a conceited jackass and for no apparant reason. I have the Nikka Costa album. The drumming is good but it's not the end all be all. I have the Voodoo album, sorry but I think it's really overrated. I was really disappointed with the outcome after all the hype.

And for all the people who criticize Prince fans for being well... too asskissy. I can say the same for the ?uestlove fans. I do drop into OKP.com everynow and then and some of those guys/gals practically genuflect everytime the guy comments on something or acknowledges one of them.- if sixwuz9

word... I mean, I like the Roots recorded efforts and really enjoyed them live during the Illadelphalflife time period... but because money is so damn arrogant I'm starting to not like their joints at all. Fact, they were never the BEST group in hiphop, but they did their thing... but this whole 'star' persona is disgusting. I mean damn, take the accolades with grace, otherwise it will hurt you more than it helps. Prince is the @#$@, no question. It's been that way from day one, no need in fronting cause of a couple of albums that were cool. Voodoo, it's aiight... has it's moments... the Roots... have their moments. Prince... has some of the best moments in music history... just look at the bootleg Sign O the Times tape (not the movie/rockumentary) and you will see... over ten years ago and he was doing this? Please... and for money to say he finally met a drummer that could nail 777-9311 other than him was ignorant. For the record Ahmir... your drumming is peace because of the timing and the texture of your hits... beyond that... let's not get ahead of yourself Mr."I have used rimshots more than any other drummer in the world... along with the same damn drum beat". You and Jellybean? Jellybean all day long son. That's just the real. It's mad funny too... just the last few months alone he's been dissing Prince cracking on anyone who supports him as a 'orger'... now if Prince cracked on 'Okayplayers'... well just think about that. At least if he has comments to make he keeps them in his circle... but enough comparing... cause really there is NO COMPARISON AT ALL... bow down. Point blank.

It's not like they're sayin' thangs they don't feel is right. So that ain't even the issue.

Besides, who the hell cares who's typin' what on these boards.

How are you gonna be "against" an artist because an artist you dislike enjoys their music?

What kills me is that whoever this person is that wrote this was probably ignorant enough to run out and buy copies of The Funky Baldheads because Prince told them to.

um, no their wack son. Just like ALL of Prince's extended associates from 90 moving forward. His last great 'outside' venture, if you ask me... Madhouse.

So you are admitting that Prince is human and everything he stands behind doesn't make the sun rise?

what the hell is wrong with you people? For the record, I never said Prince was anything other than what he is... a dope ass musician, a REAL legend, and the illest performer alive. Bottome line... he does many things I wouldn't do or don't appreciate... but that doesn't mean he still isn't Prince. Just like I like the Roots, but don't appreciate what Ahmir does. In order to really get into someone's work doesn't mean you become a suck up, a clone, or a spineless trick. I have my own opinions and I don't care who's speaking on theirs... however... if I had to give someone more respect than others.. it would be Prince, James Brown... you know... the cats WHO REALLY deserve it... that cats who changed music and have been changing music for years. THat's cause they earned it. I will be damned if some cat has been around since 93 and is talking mad ish? Especially when it don't add up half the time and it comes off like someone who used to really associate with the struggling artist... but now associates more with the very people he used to criticize... in my opinion the art, the artist, and the artist appreciator suffers in the end.

Aquaman, you da shiznit dawg! I feel what you're saying. I see Prince as a great musician and I LOVE his WORK, but I don't worship nobody. I don't have to agree with everything about him as a man, but I LOVE his WORK. But if you say you LOVE his WORK, these cats wanna try and say you're an "orger" or something, when I don't even post on that site.

And Quest does act like he's some kind of musical genius, when he really haven't created anything that comes close to genius. He's aiight, but he acts like an arrogant asshole. It would be different if he actually created a masterpiece before, but he hasn't even come close. And Voodoo was very disappointing, so don't even mention that shit.

Remember.....these are the days of your Life. Don't forget that.
