"Fahrenheit 9/11 is a powerful azz movie"
Wed Jun-30-04 03:21 AM by J_Sun

* At 11:30 AM, folks was lined up out the door to see the film
* When we got out, twice as many people were waiting to get in
* There were actually other black people there..
* The movie was even more powerful than I imagined.. call it one-sided, whatever - peeps was cryin' and shit, grown men snifflin'.
* No matter how you feel about Moore, I'd be hard pressed to imagine anyone not being moved by this film.
* Me personally? I am actually going to vote now because of this man. I had given up after 2000 and lost hope in the process.. and I still realize it's fucked up.. and no, I'm not a fan of Kerry, but just for the sake of principle, I will be politically active this fall.

Anyone else see it?

I might be wrong but folks seem to be ruled by the "opinion" of news organizations: since Charlie Gibson and Deborah Norville say it's one-sided, to cover their asses so the GOP won't start calling them liberal, then mofos know what to "think" now...so it's one-sided...

>what was its most powerful moment, in your opinion?

there were many..

but i don't want to spoil it for you - so i won't go into detail:

* the scene that covered the attacks on 9/11.. the way he did it was very powerful and original and tasteful

* interviews with soldiers and their families before, during and after their experiences in the war.. seeing the contrast in how they felt was deep

* bush's own words and speeches.. just the shit he would say, how he would say it, and the inappropriateness of it all was shocking

* the footage of baghdad the month of the american invasion, before the war started.. seeing the folks in their homes and neighborhoods, happy, smiling.. kids just living - and then contrasted against the bombings and burned bodies of children, etc.

* the footage of the war, from the soldiers' perspective

I was bawling at that point.

I mean.. I tried to hold back - but seriously, so many people have fucking died - what's the point in me tryna hold back a tear? Shouldn't somebody cry for them?

One thing I liked tho, is that Moore didn't just try and get you to cry for the Iraqi's.. he sensitively portrayed the tragedy from every angle -- I was crying for the victims of 9/11, the Iraqi's, the soldiers, their families..

but really i didnt want to cry because i didnt want to feel worse than i already did. i wasnt ready to revisit those emotions. i didnt have the heart to.

They are not sold out. I live by one of those huge mega theaters where they sell pizzas and chicken wings for snacks so i might have an easier time getting in.

So my options are Coolidge Corner Theatre, Fenway, Boston Common, or Harvard Sq. I really wanted to see at at Coolidge Corner because that place is dope with the old school stage/movie theatre curtain. Its also a few blocks away from me. : )

I thought it was great, kinda already knew everything in the movie from Jello Biafra, but it was nice seeing it presented in a movie documentry.

I'm glad people are going out to see it, i think it will out-sell every movie this summer, exept maybe spiderman 2 but it will still do great.

I love Alex Jones when I'm chilling on the couch (3 years ago) smoking nothing but da kind...but he is a bit too sensational to really be effective to most Americans.
Yeah, he's very informative....but he can stray into heavy duty "Art Bell" land sometimes. And no I'm not knocking him, he's just too passionate to be affective with middle class white American sensibitilies...like fucking Bobby Hemit, you know?
but hell...this is G.D.

He's a local nut. You shoulda seen that show before Y2K.
He had his daddy on the phone one night, "they got us like the niggers" - ie the Fed Govt has us - ie whites - like the niggers.

He tried to play it off, but....

Nother time, he was getting calls from regular folks who'd go see him @ his speaking events, and then get approached by the National Alliance (William Pierce n'nem)....

This film could be the final non hostile wake up call to Americans about how their government works.

*When all the black folks were adressing Al Gore on the Senate floor trying to find a Senator to acknowledge them and sign their petition...all they needed was one Senator to raise some ruckus about their votes being ignored...they were all referring to Gore as "President" Gore, that schitt was disturbing as fuck. Every white man in a suit in that room was acting as shook as fuck!!! What was up with that?
I mean, yeah...the Supreme Court decided the election, but none of them had schitt to say about the matter on the Senate floor, and they were giving the black folks the old, "well, what can we do?" looks. AMAZING. Al Gore is a beeeeyoootch, farilldough.

*When the mother of one of a killed Marine visits the White house, she sees an Iraqi woman sitting in a makeshift vigil for her son, and the people of her country who have died. The U.S. soldiers mom, makes a connection with the Iraqi mother, they both acknowledge their loss and how senseless it is. Out of nowhere some squaking bitch rolls up saying that what she's seeing is all being staged!?, basically dismissing the moment these two women are having!!! Saying don't blame the U.S./Bush, blame Al Qaeda!!! I'm sorry, it's thinking like this that will keep heads literally rolling everywhere the U.S. positions itself around the world for "Freedom & Democracy". That bitch needs to be kicked in the pussy, hard.

My brother is in Afghanistan, he's scheduled to go to Iraq in September of this year. He is also a soldier who is not afraid to question the reasoning behind U.S. involvement in central Asia. What he is told on a daily basis is in his words "horseschitt" propaganda of the us against them variety. He's a career military man who says he will be leaving the military as soon as his current tour of duty is over due to the "chickenhawk" leadership in our government and the military brass that answer to their demands. In my brothers words he is there 1st and foremost to defend the interest of the military(department of defense)/oil industrial complex.

I wasn't going to vote this november either, but I've changed my mind. I will vote, and I will make sure that my interests are recognized by my congressman, my senator, and whoever is elected in November. This is the way it is supposed to work and this is the way we should MAKE it work.

I was MAD about that!! That was so FUCKING sad -- and what was worse was Al GORE himself being the one to have to shut that shit down.

The Black caucus looked so pathetic.. the senate, even worse. That was fucking crazy.

I don't wanna hear schitt out of Al Gore's mouth ever again.
He is bitchmade for life after that.
I'm really saying, Black folks need to organize and roll up on the Democratic National Convention like that scene in Malcolm X when the Black Muslims rolled up on the police department to ensure that schitt goes down WITH a plan.
Niggaroes ain't got no real affiliation with none of these bastards and shouldn't expect anything from them just because they voted for them. We need to demand schitt from John Kerry and the Democratic Party, pronto!!!

Now who wants to start a list of things we'd like to see in the innercity and all communities of color?

a black candidate who at least has the credentials, education, charm and connections to win -- in theory (if racism didn't exist..)

i mean, we need atleast a candidate to look good on paper - even if s/he lost - to the point to where it would be obvious that it was race that held him/her back.

what was gore supposed to do? the rules say that the petition must be signed by a congressman and a senator. he asked them each if it was signed by both, and when they said no, he had to deny the petition... also, they were calling him "mr. president" because as active vice president, he is the president of the senate.

when asked about the signature from a senator, i would have DIED if one of the female congresswomen said "im sorry sir, but much like myself, the senators have no testicles"

not because of the movie itself, but more because of how I thought it should have emotionally affected me more than it actually did.

This is the kind of movie that I'd need to see again to form an opinion on

but it's also the kind of documentary that i don't need to see again

Or that it ruins the film. But in this film, it is made much better by the footage doing the work. His editing skills are masterful...the montages and juxtapositions are brilliant. You'll see.

It's typical Moore for the first half...and his antics in the street of DC are great, too.

- The real life pictures of war and families mourning makes me mad depressed.

- Bush while he may be a bad president and a stupid man and i am not a bush supporter, he got cheapshotted pretty well in this movie. Maybe he deserves it, maybe he doesn't, but the fact is, he still got cheapshotted.

No he didnt. He sat for 7 minutes while 3000 people died, reading MY PET GOAT. A leader stands up, says "Excuse me. I'm sorry." And GETS TO WORK!

And whats was a cheapshot? The footage of him saying:

"The haves...and the have mores. some call you the elite, I call you my base?"

His 42% vacation time? His stealing the election? THE DEAD CHILDREN?

the media makes it look like its nothing but an anti-bush movie, but it wasnt like that at all..i was expecting it to be an anti-bush movie, but it was much more than that, ofcourse there were shots taken at bush, but they were in no way cheapshots..even if it would've been just an anti-bush movie, so what, since he speaks to God, he should thank God that a documentary taking shots at him is the worst thing that has happened to him.

like, he withheld information that would have made bush look good in any way, and he went out of his way to choose the most dumb and stupid moments of his presidency (of which there were many) - but I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

at first, in the beginning of the film i thought "damn.. I kinda feel sorry for GW.." - especially in how he's portrayed in that classroom. i was thinking, "of course he didn't know the gravity of what was happening" -- But then, after reflection, I thought about all the time that has passed since then - and all the lies and stupidity that has surrounded his presidency, and I stopped feeling sorry for him.

It's hard for me to say the movie takes cheap shots at Bush, especially since most of it is footage of things he has said. He did it to his own self.

with one of the Producers, Jeff Gibbs and the family that was documented in the movie (The Lipscombs)...and some of the other people that were in the movie. I guess it was a reserved showing for those that were in the movie. My friend had the "hook-up"

Anyway, the movie had a different effect on me, because I was able to put a name and face with the soldier who died and his younger brother. The Courtland Center and etc. It was a different reaction in the theatre..something indescribable (sp).

The movie was a typical Mike Moore flick. It will be interesting to see the effects of the box office numbers on this one in relationship to the Administration now. Clearly, leaving this movie one would vote against BUSH. And if this movie remains #1 or near the top for a few weeks (which I think b/c of its limited screening - coincedence? - it may not) it could really spell T-R-O-U-B-L-E for the current Administration.

But with the actual family there watching the movie..it made it THAT much more powerful for the people in the theatre today. Ppl literally lined up just to hug Mrs. Lipscomb...and there was no dry eye in the theatre.

Wonderful experience and I wish I could have taken a fellow OKP'er with me, she would have liked it.

Just my thoughts...

Cuz Dearborn has the largest Iraqi population in the U.S. I would have been interested to see their reaction to the film.

I saw it in Southfield @ the Star. It was a mixed audience, though it was mostly white people. A good number of Arabs showed up too. My mom was livid afterwards, it was kinda funny.

i saw some reports during the beginning of the war (over a year ago) - of american iraqi's and folks who had escaped saddam's regime -- they were happy about getting saddam out and vocally supported the war. I dunno how that's changed since the war began, or if that was even a representative sample of american iraqi's, but I'd be interested in finding out.

lol..thats one of the good points that are not highlighted enough in my hometown. Everyone knows of the economic issues that has gone on, but they don't know about the groups like the Kudos and other teenage boy and girls frats/steppers. Those clubs/org's demand a sense of decorum and builds leadership. It's ALOT more ppl like that in Flint than the opposite..but like they say it only takes one "bad apple".

Yea its them, the the Men of Exellence (lil bruhs of the Ques),Kappa Leaguers(lil bro's of Kappa's), Alpha Esquires(lil bro's of Alpha's), A-kettes(lil sisters of AKA's), Xino's

As you can see, I can go on about my hometown

In response to Reply # 0

Fahrenheit 9/11 was much more of an emotional movie for me than I was ever to expect. I expected to just go see a movie where Michael Moore was bashing Bush (for the reasons I already knew; I read his last book) I was very surprised to see even the beginning of the movie to be so emotional and touch me so deep that I even cried. It started off with various members of the white house being prepped for a public appearance. I cried as I saw Dick Cheney, John Ashcroft, George Bush and Colin Powell’s eyes; eyes that had no emotion in them, such cold eyes. It made me cry over the thought “WE let THEM take over US, THEY are in power? How did we let this happen?” This started the movie off to a great start for me, in that it sort of shocked me into tears. I think just that part prepared me for the rest of the movie. He later went to talk about George Bush and his cohorts and how they have taken over the world at the point of a gun. Most of this I already knew but it was good to actually know that another feels as I do, another that sees the travesties of the present day. In case any of you have read Atlas Shrugged you’ll know that they are the Wesley Mouch and the Orren Boyle who tore the world to pieces. The only other part when I cried was when the Muslim Woman was crying herself at the death of her 5 sons. I envisioned her as my grand mother, who lives in Egypt. I envisioned her home being destroyed and her sons being murdered. Still through all this she yelled “ALLAH U AKBAR. ALLAH U AKBAR(god is great), WHERE IS ALLAH?” I just fell apart at hearing her say this. In this movie I saw the corpses of Iraqi children(which I have seen and cried at before on Aljazeera). This is what American people need to see. If there is one movie for anyone to see this year, it is without a doubt Fahrenheit 9/11. Before me and my friends went to see this movie we were talking, chillin, just having a cool time. After we saw this movie there was a silent reflection of it. And who else would we be listening to but Dead Prez’s Walk Like a Warrior? This makes me think, Why shouldn’t I kill you? Why shouldn’t I bomb you, Why Shouldn’t I, Why Shouldn’t I? A lot of you would say, Why don’t you do something about it, will mind you, I will
I got a single coming out in a few weeks(when studio opens) and album coming this summer

Martyr coming this summer

like very deep, powerful and emotional..and pretty much everything you said.
I have never liked the Bush administration from the start and every word out of them mugs I took with a grain of salt. What I learned in Fahreinheit 9/11 movie was IMMENSE. He uncovered so many secrets and lies...reasons why we pursued Iraq rather than Afghanistan and bin Laden, it wasn't just about the oil (though it certainly is) but so much more. Every single person on Bush's team is a walking contradiction.
Certain parts of the movie were very emotional and difficult to watch. It breaks your heart to see these young men and women dying for the sake of what....its very very sad.
I really liked how Michael Moore ended the movie, with that clip of Bush...I don't want to spoil it for anyone but you know what I'm talkin' about, the 'saying'....the balls of that man.

I think regardless of your political affliation, people need to see this movie. Sure it focuses a lot on Bush, but its about the events leading and following 9/11...which had a lot to do with Bush's administartion. Moore isn't just "bashing" or pointing out the flaws....he has cold hard facts, rare, exclusive footage of him. He has documented every critical detail, every soundbite ever uttered oout of GWB's mouth (with any relevance of course).
Michael Moore was success in this movie/documentary because he took a very risky, 'unpopular' role. I give him much props for having the guts and drive to uncover the REAL truth.

As one Marine puts it best, he and his troops patrol the areas surrounding the coveted oil fields for around $2-3k a month. Behind them, driving trucks and operating around fields protected by the Marines with their necks on the block, the Halliburton engineers earn $10-20k a month. The tragedy of Iraq, and of not just the Bush administration but the government as a whole, is how the people who benefit most invest the least. It is the uneducated, the under-privledged, and the needy, who comprise our armed forces. Their actions and sacrifices, with promise of little pay, tragically (and ironically) provide the pathway for the rich to get richer.

and then some.

and then i get home and read this (the bush administration must be stopped):

Scientists Now Need OK to Consult WHO
Fri Jun 25, 5:05 PM ET

By MARK SHERMAN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Government scientists must now be cleared by a Bush political appointee before they can lend their expertise to the World Health Organization (news - web sites), a change that a Democratic lawmaker said fits a pattern of politicizing science.

William Steiger, a special assistant to Health and Human Services (news - web sites) Secretary Tommy Thompson, said in an April letter that WHO can no longer pick specific government experts to serve as consultants.

The practice, which has been in place during several administrations, "has not always resulted in the most appropriate selections," Steiger said.

Instead, Steiger's Office of Global Health Affairs now will choose "an appropriate expert who can best serve both of our organizations," he said. HHS experts made available also must advocate U.S. government policies, Steiger said. He came to Washington with Thompson, Wisconsin's governor until President Bush (news - web sites) appointed him to lead HHS in 2001.

Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., a frequent administration critic, said Friday it was the latest in a series of actions that in his view contradict the open search for scientific and medical evidence. "It appears to me that the administration is tightening their controls over their professionals and their scientists ... to favor its right-wing constituents," Waxman said.

He asked Thompson in a letter to rescind the policy, which Waxman said "politicizes the process of providing the expert advice of U.S. scientists to the international community."

Bill Pierce, Thompson's spokesman, said Waxman has it wrong. "It's in no way politicized," Pierce said. "This is a policy to make sure the WHO has the very best the federal government has to offer when it comes to our experts."

Senior officials also sometimes did not know who on their staffs were on loan to WHO and other organizations, Pierce said.

He said the policy has existed for about 20 years, but acknowledged it had not been enforced before. Waxman, however, called it unprecedented.

The California lawmaker also has complained the administration is subverting science to politics on a range of issues, including limiting federal funding for stem-cell research, cracking down on groups that promote condom use to combat AIDS (news - web sites) and favoring programs that advocate abstinence as the only way to prevent the disease.

Great great great.

It really does show that there is an alternate indy media out there and that nobody has to put up w/ it.

I am glad I saw this in the same week I saw "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" which is the account of Hugo Chavez and the struggles he CONTINUES to go through to combat the 4 major media conglomerates of his country, via his one state run TV show. Amazing.

i think having fewer theaters creates bigger hype - everytime you go, shit is sold out - there are crowds.. which creates even more word of mouth..

whereas if there were too many theaters, it probably wouldn't make as big an impact.

that it is an estimate

i think there is a fervor about the film and an energy that comes from standing in line (which i did three times yesterda-once to by tickets and twice to get in to both shows). i think that a much wider opening would've cut down on its impact in that sense

it still would've made about the same money or more w/ an opening of double its size

w/ mom - was cool.. filled up theater yet again, at 11:30 AM.. and i think the next showing was sold out, as there was a line going all the way out the theater to get in after us.

i didn't cry as much - not at all during the actual 9/11 portion.. but was still very moved. paid attention to the reactions from the audience -- they laughed slightly less than the crowd yesterday, but still at the most appropriate moments.. i heard lots of sniffling again.. applause at the end.

mom said that when she went to the ladies room halfway thru the film, there was already a crowd waiting - and they kept asking her "how do you like the film? how is it? everyone that comes out is crying.."

great movie.

I left the movie feeling depressed. The theater was sooooo packed, I overheard ushers saying our theater had 215 people. Its a big theater here in Las Vegas, but shows were sold out for the rest of the night. So many different people too.

I really hope this movie registers in everyone's mind, that our administration is pure evil & we need to get them out of here. I enjoyed this movie more than BFC. And less of Michael Moore's face was a good thing, not to be mean.

It was powerful, but if u know Mike that's no surprise.

I was kind of hoping it would be more contreversial. but he knows that even if he sugar coats it, which I think he did, the media will still dismiss it as lies, propaganda, etc. He did a good job.

There was one part i didnt like - this isnt a spoiler cause it was in the trailer...

when he was going around trying to get congressmen to enlist their kids in the military, the second guy he spoke to (the one who looked down at the paper, then looked at moore, then back at the paper, then they cut to the next person) actually responded with "sure, i'd be glad to help, two of my nephews are in iraq right now." but moore cut that out of the movie. i felt like there was so much damning stuff out there that was actually factual that he didnt need to be deliberately misleading like that...

other than that, it was great. there were some parts (the business dealings) that if you already knew about it were kinda slow, and i wish there was a little more stories like mrs. lipscomb but this was still a GREAT movie, and EVERYONE should see it!

EDIT: heres the link about it... http://www.startribune.com/stories/587/4845919.html

I just came from seeing it and I got all kinds of things mixed up in my mind & heart. It was a brilliant piece of work.
One thing haunts me about this film...

Everything Moore used to make this film was either public record or common knowledge; the relationships between the Saudis and Bush, Lies from the administration, etc.

Somehow the masses missed it as they often do. What the masses have been consuming has been the propaganda that poses as news media. However, I couldn't help but think that in my formative years hip hop did what Fahrenheit 911 is doing; waking up the masses. I got my alterative news from emcees. That was a function of hip hop in the development of my political consciousness.

Where is hip hop now? When I listen to the kids I work with they exhibit NO sense of consciousness about the world around them. Hip Hop be damned for helping to lull our kids to sleep/death.

Thanx for listening y'all...

This show on Comedy Central during the 1st 8 months of Bush that was a parody of Bush. It was a sitcom with a guy who was a Bush look a like and a comedian playing the prsident as this inept idiot (which he is).

Of course it was cancelled on Sept 12, 2001.

Oh and I read that Bill O'Reilly (sp?) sneaked out early from the film - and Michael Moore caught him in the act.

but far from powerful.

some of it is used to pull at your emotions to make you feel more than you should.

2 examples

after the opening credits, the blank screen with the sounds of 9/11 horror

the mother's story being documented until its revealed she lost her son in the war and the subsequent letter reading plus revelation that the war is senseless.

In response to Reply # 168

the emotional impact? and why shouldn't you feel exactly as much as you do during those two scenes? I mean, he didn't make the shit up - the woman's story about her son - her reaction, his letter. And the blank screen during 9/11 -- I thought that was so tasteful, and yes - more powerful than watching the actual footage.. which would have cheapened the whole spirit of the film.

i mean, even if you think it was emotionally manipulative - if it worked, isn't that the definition of powerful? Any movie where the entire crowd consistently weep and laugh regularly throughout the film has some kinda power going on, don't it?

just do something.

Talk to kids on your block. Esp. those that you know are about to be first time voters.

Organize an info circle with your fam. Gather emails and share articles. My uncle, mom and pops each have been doing this to make sure loved one's are infomred.

Stuff like that seems really small but it's possibly the most important kind of action you can take.

Most important of all DON'T stop with just this film. Gather and consume as much info as you can and SHARE it. People have been comparing this to other films. Check them out and keep building your own opinion of what's going on.

Later...
Kwesi K.

wow
my eyes watered on a few occasions

I think everybody knows all the politicians & big business are in bed
nothing new there

the real emotion was with the average people
soliders
and the mother of that one solider

that mother had alot of self control
cause I know a few women who if they lost their child wouldn't have taken that one confrontational scene so well

Artist: Public Enemy
Album: It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back
Song: Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos

I got a letter from the government
The other day
I opened and read it
It said they were suckers
They wanted me for their army or whatever
Picture me given' a damn - I said never
Here is a land that never gave a damn
About a brother like me and myself
Because they never did
I wasn't wit' it, but just that very minute...
It occured to me
The suckers had authority
Cold sweatin' as I dwell in my cell
How long has it been?
They got me sittin' in the state pen
I gotta get out - but that thought was thought before
I contemplated a plan on the cell floor
I'm not a fugitive on the run
But a brother like me begun - to be another one
Public enemy servin' time - they drew the line y'all
To criticize me some crime - never the less
They could not understand that I'm a Black man
And I could never be a veteran
On the strength, the situation's unreal
I got a raw deal, so I'm goin' for the steel

They got me rottin' in the time that I'm servin'
Tellin' you what happened the same time they're throwin'
4 of us packed in a cell like slaves - oh well
The same motherfucker got us livin' is his hell
You have to realize - what its a form of slavery
Organized under a swarm of devils
Straight up - word'em up on the level
The reasons are several, most of them federal
Here is my plan anyway and I say
I got gusto, but only some I can trust - yo
Some do a bid from 1 to 10
And I never did, and plus I never been
I'm on a tier where no tears should ever fall
Cell block and locked - I never clock it y'all
'Cause time and time again time
They got me servin' to those and to them
I'm not a citizen
But ever when I catch a C-O
Sleepin' on the job - my plan is on go-ahead
On the strength, I'ma tell you the deal
I got nothin' to lose
'Cause I'm goin' for the steel

You know I caught a C-O
Fallin' asleep on death row
I grabbed his gun - then he did what I said so
And everyman's got served
Along with the time they served
Decency was deserved
To understand my demands
I gave a warnin' - I wanted the governor, y'all
And plus the warden to know
That I was innocent -
Because I'm militant
Posing a threat, you bet it's fuckin' up the government
My plan said I had to get out and break north
Just like with Oliver's neck
I had to get off - my boys had the feds in check
They couldn't do nuthin'
We had a force to instigate a prison riot
This is what it takes for peace
So I just took the piece
Black for Black inside time to cut the leash
Freedom to get out - to the ghetto - no sell out
6 C-Os we got we ought to put their head out
But I'll give 'em a chance, cause I'm civilized
As for the rest of the world, they can't realize
A cell is hell - I'm a rebel so I rebel
Between bars, got me thinkin' like an animal
Got a woman C-O to call me a copter
She tried to get away, and I popped her
Twice, right
Now who wanna get nice?
I had 6 C-Os, now it's 5 to go
And I'm serious - call me delirious
But I'm still a captive
I gotta rap this
Time to break as time grows intense
I got the steel in my right hand
Now I'm lookin' for the fence

I ventured into the courtyard
Followed by 52 brothers
Bruised, battered, and scarred but hard
Goin' out with a bang
Ready to bang out
But power from the sky
And from the tower shots rang out
A high number of dose - yes
And some came close
Figure I trigger my steel
Stand and hold my post
This is what I mean - an anti-nigger machine
If I come out alive and then they won't - come clean
And then I threw up my steel bullets - flew up
Blew up, who shot...
What, who, the bazooka was who
And to my rescue, it was the S1Ws
Secured my getaway, so I just gotaway
The joint broke, from the black smoke
Then they saw it was rougher thatn the average bluffer
'Cause the steel was black, the attitude exact
Now the chase is on tellin' you to c'mon
53 brothers on the run, and we are gone

went up to the white house and was like, "now I have some place to throw all my frustration at" I felt the same way when i came back from ghana and went down to the washington monument, i just wanted to run my car into it and bring it down.

i teared up when she broke down at that part.

my friends and i were having a discussion about that lady, my homegirl says the lady is hispanic and i told her that the lady was white. what do you think? and we all agreed that her husband had nothing relevant to add and should have been left out.

America has imported more warlord theocracy from Afghanistan than it has exported democracy.

I was glad to hear this because my boyfriend and I were convinced that Micheal Moore is just preaching to the choir, and that many people who need to see it wouldn't.

I really glad more people saw it than saw "White Girls"!

check out a film called called "Control Room"

I caught both flicks this weekend...shows the beginning of the war from a journalist's perspective c/o Al-Jazeera reporters & foreign correspondents from American TV outlets...reinforces a lot of themes from Farenheit 9/11, but it bit goes further by echoing the Arab sentiment toward the American military campaigns in Iraq...its definitely not as comical as /11, but its just as effective in showing the power of the media to influence the public during the outbreak of war

And I think I remember him being mentioned as the one who authorized the flights.

If anyone is giving Clarke the benefit of the doubt, it's because he, at the very least, was man enough to stand up and take responsibility (as well as name names) for the breakdown that let 9/11 take place.

it would not take much to find out if it is true or not if you really want to know. but you know other things are more important such as american idol and wwf wrestling and BET rap videos

"3X on Michael Moore 9-11 film"

Checked out Moore's film last night and I thought that it was ok. I think the film is good for those people who are not conscious on the behind the scenes activities surrounding 9-11, the war on iraq, bush & bin laden connection, and the 2000 presidential election mess. For me personally the movie was not an eye opener since I have been keeping up on 9-11 from the start but the film had a lot of footage that I did enjoy. Overall the movie only BARELY scratches the surface on 9-11 and the war on iraq. If the movie would have dug deeper into the topics the movie would have never made it to one single theatre. I still say that ALEX JONES of WWW.INFOWARS.COM has the best documentary film on 9-11. Alex's film doesn't have the one on one footage found in moore's film but it does go a little deeper into 9-11. I would suggest all to see moore's film as well get Alex Jone's 9-11 documentary film entitled 9-11 THE ROAD TO TYRANNY and ERIC HUFSCHMID'S film entitled PAINFUL DECEPTIONS.

Here are a few thoughts on moore's film.

1. I could not help but notice that Gore and the white politicians sat back and did nothing to help the NEGROES and I believe one Asian looking lady stand up to the obvious fraud that took place in florida. You think that after all the hard work that gore did to attempt to become president that he would have been the most vocal person out there to lead an investigation into the florida vote mess. Gore kept quiet for years and i wonder why.

2. i thought it was nasty to see paul wolfowitz putting a hair comb in his mouth before applying the comb to his hair. and then the nasty devil sticked his dirty fingures in his mouth.

3. i enjoyed the one on one footage of family members who lost loved ones in the war on iraq. it was also interesting to see some of the u.s. military people speaking their minds out about being the iraq.

4. enjoyed the scene with moore asking congress people to sign up the children to go to iraq.

5. it was good to see moore show how much influence the saudis have in this country. showing the censoring of 29 pages from the 9-11 report was good

6. i was pleased to see moore show some of the individuals and companies who are making billions of off the war on iraq.

7. the film obviously shows how american politics is a joke just like WWF WRESTLING and a lot of you wonder why i won't register to vote.

8. it was good to see moore's film showed how bush and cheney told daschle to limit rhe 9-11 investigation. got something to hide?

9. the film clearly shows how much of an idiot bush is. there is no doubt in my mind that bush is a front man

the film does not mention other items in reference to 9-11 and the war on iraq and 9-11 that i feel is important

- no mention of the high purchase of put option stocks on united and american airlines

- no mention of at least 7 of the 9-11 hijackers being alive according to the DALLAS MORNING NEWS, WASHINGTON POST, BBC NEWS AND ATLANTA JOURNAL CONSTITUTION

- no mention of the anthrax attack

- no mention of how a lot of the steel from the wtc towers and wtc 7 was quickly destroyed and not saved for examining

- no mention of NORAD standing down

- no mention of the flight schools and u.s. military bases that the hijackers learned to fly from

- no mention of PROJECT FOR A NEW AMERICAN CENTURY'S document entitled REBUILDING AMERICA'S DEFENSES or OPERATION NORTHWOODS

- no mention of the CIA on the morning of 9-11-01 conducting a simulation of hijacked airplanes crashing into government buildings

First of all, as someone else said, all of this stuff has been documented already. If you don't rely on the mainstream news media to provide you with your news, none of what Moore was saying was new.

However, it was quite an impact to have all of the information provided in one concentrated block of time.

The audience reaction went from laughter to tears. It was interesting listening to many of the more conservative viewers while standing in that long-ass line, ruminate on what a crappy job Michael Moore was going to do on this film. I wish I could have followed them to hear what they thought afterward.

There was never any question about me voting in this election. I do hope that this film is the vehicle to open peoples' eyes about the corruption of this executive administration and the country as a whole.

Let it be known that www.newsmax.com is a republican/"conservative" website. So you will some of that WWF WRESTLING staged theatre of the left vs right garbage. To suggest that Michael Moore might have a more active financial relationship with the Carlyle Group than George Bush is absurd. The article goes on to down play the Bush/Bin Laden business relationship. It is amazing how people can view this film based off of their political alliance. This is WWF WRESTLING staged theatre. Left vs right. NWO vs WCW. Where's independent thought when it comes to politics? Where is right vs wrong when it comes to politics? Republicans hate Moore's film simply because it attacks a republican president. If a democrat was president websites like www.newsmax.com and others would be praising it. FUCK AMERIKKKAN politics. And I have no clue why a lot of you negroes vote in the first place. Gore kept quiet for years over the 2000 election mess. Bush's frat brother Kerry (aka THE INVISIBLE MAN) is no different than Bush. Kerry has access to more than enough dirt to paint a nasty picture of Bush but he won't use it. BUSH WILL WIN THE 2004 ELECTION. You heard it here first. - marcus3x

Michael Moore Linked to Carlyle Group

www.Newsmax.com | June 28 2004

In his film "Fahrenheit 9/11," Democratic Party propaganda-meister Michael Moore accuses President Bush of being too cozy with Osama bin Laden's relatives, claiming Bush once accepted money from an international investment consortium known as the Carlyle Group, on whose board bin Laden family members used to sit.

But it turns out that Moore, not Bush, may have the more active financial relationship with Carlyle.

Reports Sunday's New York Post: "The Carlyle Group - which bashes in the movie as some sort of shadowy war profiteering company - has become part owner of Loews Cinemas, which is currently showing his film."

How much of Caryle's bin Laden-tainted cash has found its way into Moore's pockets - the portly propagandist isn't saying.

But Sunday's Newsday debunks his claim that President Bush has any financial links to Osama's kin.

Citing Craig Unger's book "House of Bush, House of Saud," Moore invokes the name of James R. Bath, who served with Bush in the Texas Air National Guard and who managed the Texas investments for the Bin Ladin Group during the 1970s. Supposedly, one of their investments was in George W.'s Arbusto Energy.

Reports the paper:

"Moore implies the bin Ladens wanted to curry favor with Bush while his father was CIA director. But Unger's reporting - omitted by Moore - says that Bath denies putting bin Laden money in Arbusto."

The president's father was once a Carlyle adviser, but cut ties with the group after 9/11, as did the bin Laden relatives.

I just saw it & I knew & prolly still know pretty much jack shit about politics cause Ive never followed any of it at all...so all the stuff that most people already knew was pretty new to me & I don't know how much one sided it is or how true the stuff Moore was saying is, but all the evidence & information Moore gave seemed to be legit & he backed up his reasons & beliefs very well...
but either way I had no idea bush was THAT dumb, the way my mom would talk about him & other things I saw, I believed he was an idiot but damn....I now can understand why people feel so strongly against him & I feel that way too now.....

It was very powerful & I am gonna register to vote against him now, I would recommend it to people like me who don't know shit about any of it, cause its a good eye opener even if some people think its a one sided view on the issues

haha

sorry, i don't read "y'alls" opinions on anything.

i just mean, it didnt tell me anything i didnt already know or didn't already suspect, and he went the obvious heart string tug route at the end with flint, mi's son dying in the war.

michael moore is good at what he does, but i hate when people have to play on the emotions of others to get the response they want.

i'm glad a lot of other lazy, apathetic, and possibly apolitical people are able to see all this information (that's easy enough to access if just 'want' to) in a nicely organised and visual presentation just under 120 minute, but for me it was preaching to the choir, and michael moore gets on my nerves with his "soft concerned" voice and is editing tricks.

he does what he does well, but whatever.

Interesting.

And what's up with the backhanded "I don't read what y'all think" comment?

i did, but i caught myself. moore is good with the crescendos but alas, i come from a military background/community and this happens all the time. appeal to my reason, not my heart.

well, i don't read what y'all think, as in the opinions of such a polarised bored as okayplayer was not on my mind when i went to see this movie. i dont come here for opinions/recommendations/reviews. this place is too big, diverse, and there's a lot of white noise i dont feel like filtering two in my 15-45 collective minutes a day i spend here.

cuz i think anybody would be on the brink watching some of the emotional scenes -- but i also feel you about appealing to reason over emotion - i think that's a valid criticism of the film

All the same, thanks for adding to the thread - because although you may not read what anyone else says here, I'm sure someone will check your post and take your point of view into consideration.

I bought the tickets early and I was shocked when we arrived early and the theater was almost packed to capacity already.
I felt a wide range of emotions throughout and when the Iraqi woman came on... it was over for me. I cried for the remainder of the movie. I was surprised that when the movie was over people seemed so unaffected. There was a little burst of applause at the end and then people walked out talking, laughing, on cell phones like they had just seen Shrek 2. I could barely move after it was over and wept even after I got home. This was a very powerful movie and I've already resolved to take other people. I was already going to vote for Kerry but this has motivated me to try to get other people registered to vote and take action. I wish I knew more to do...

(Sorry I didn't post more specifics... I just wrote on my blog about it.)

saw it sat. two things to note:

1) management informed a packed house 5 min before showtime that the ac would be out of order for the duration of the screening. they offered refunds for anyone who wanted it. no one took them up on it.

2) on the way out of the theatre, i saw two blind men exiting the movie. i spoke with them briefly and learned that they were both curious old lefties who wanted to support anything that could possibly unseat bush.
