told my bol who live there and he's like that's some racial shit...
eventually we had to leave cause my bol got into it with the one black bartender there when we tried to order another round later
dude basically got smart with him about the types of vodka they have
the next day i'm talking to my bol friend who's a bouncer and he's like his job stopped serving ciroc as a way to keep blacks out. it's the new thing they are doing now since it's getting harder to select based on other factors

I know they do that shit with the music tho. I've been in bars where it's all good, music playing some generic shit on volume 4. Then, it gets a little too dark in there and all of a sudden someone puts a metal CD in and turns the volume up to 9.

I've been straight told to my face to do that. (Funny post script. I am good friends with a bar owner who pulled me in the back room after I posted this and was like "Do you think I'm racist!?" And I was like "That ain't about you, but... I mean..." lol And we had this long talk and I told her about things I experienced when I was working for a DJ company and going out to bars I had never been in before and showed her pics I took of "Die Nigger" tagged in the bathroom and shit and she was dumbfounded. Hi, bar. How are you? How�s the wife and kids? Good to hear. Hey, I wanted to talk to you about something.

You know how you ask me to not play �hip hop�? Or �rap�? Or �thug music�? You are neutering me. Because, whether you like the music or not, your clientele does. I would understand if I was walking into some country ass country bar that you don�t want to hear rap. I get it. You play to the crowd. You play what they want to hear. That�s my job, to entertain your customers.

But when your customers want to hear rap music� when they enjoy and request rap music (because, let�s be honest� look at the Billboard charts. Hip Hop & R&B rule the musical landscape right now. Here� Rolling Stone Magazine did it for you), and you turn and say �We don�t want you to play rap music� you are using coded language. When you say �We�re not trying to attract a certain element,� you are using coded language. When you say, �You know what we�re trying to avoid,� you are a step closer, but still using coded language. Do you need me to say it for you? You don�t want black people.

I know, I know, I know�. that�s not what you said. No, not literally what you said. But that is what you are hinting around. It�s the same thing as when a club says, �No Jerseys. No Timberland Boots. No White Tees. No Doo Rags.� They have written around what they wanted to say: �No Blacks.�

Is this as bad as segregation? No. Jesus� don�t belittle the point. I know you allow black people in your bar. If they act right. Under your parameters. You don�t want me playing music they might like, because they might act up. You know how they get.

So, stop skating the issue. I�d respect you much more if you didn�t speak in coded language and just came out and said what you felt. You aren�t saving face with me. I�ll gladly play some Adele, throw on some Taylor Swift and do an 80s set to make it through the night. Then I will tear down my equipment at the end of the night, drive home and tell my boss to never send me to DJ your bar again. Because I like to play what people want to hear. While the audience for rap music is LITERALLY pop music now, when clubs inact that rule it's side by side to the No White Tees, No Doo Rags.

Funny enough tho, like I think it was SeV who pointed it out, considering even thugs now look like Kid Cudi, it's all a moot point...it's a really old form of sideways discrimination.

If it's about the "vibe" or "ambiance" or whatever then I get that, and I agree. Only problem with that is it's obvious when the black guy in slacks & a button downs gets rejected, but the white guy in sandals, shorts & ironic tee slides right in.

For a dance club, where people actually dance, then most dress codes are actually silly. I don't want to sweat my good shit out and have drinks spilled all over it.

I can't think of any reasons (other than the "vibe" listed above) that a venue would enforce a dress code, other than to have ready-made excuses to arbitrarily accept or reject certain patrons.


Edit: I've experienced the "no hip hop" thing with my own eyes and ears. From my anecdote, hip hop being played by the DJ was cool until it got a little too dark in there, and then that's when the *MusicUsBlackFolkAintFuckingWith* comes on. I'd be deterred from walking into a bar blasting some wack shit myself.

that's messed up if true, but I don't ever think I've witnessed anyone actually order Henny at the bar. even a predominantly black establishment. Henny is for the house.

I also can't see how not having Ciroc on deck would deter blacks away from the place. There are LOTS of other (better) alternatives. Unless of course such a move is solely geared towards the ratchets. Then, I guess I could see it working. Ciroc is synonymous with Vodka in that set.

Cognac is nothing more than brandy made from very specific types of grapes. If the bar sells brandy, it should also sell cognac based on this.
