Talib is right that some of the media has spun the stories in Ferguson in a negative light. Too bad Don took that statement personally, because Talib wasn't initially talking about Don. Talib is right that some CNN online stories have been negative, and while Don is right that the network isn't responsible for all of those stories, it all falls under the umbrella of CNN.

It was weird how Talib took Don's greeting of him so personally. At that point it just seemed like egos colliding. But it was also strange how Don tried to tell Talib that he didn't know what was happening on the streets in Ferguson, and I'm glad Talib stood his ground.

and anti-police. They discuss militarization of the police and how it's a problem, they discuss police ratcheting up the tension levels by grabbing their riot gear, they commend the meaning behind the protests, so the fact he takes an important opportunity to be interviewed and discuss the organizations he names in the last ten seconds of the interview to nitpick about one sentence in one article on the CNN website that is not fucking accurate is really a waste. Stay focused, man. Maybe the whole week got him tense and mistrusting. To be honest anybody who has been out representing the people of Ferguson and enduring the stresses of that for a prolonged time might have not even been as good as Talib in speaking about the situation, so...

coverage has not been pro-Ferguson people.

Yes, Anderson, Don and Jake Tapper have been pro-the people, but many of the CNN online articles and filler shows have been bullshit. Poppy nem paraded kevin Jackson, larry elder and ben ferguson unchallenged for days. Only 2 nights ago did they finally put them up against folx who would counter their bullshit. I can see how that would leave a bad taste in the mouths of the people like Talib who are there on the ground.

Still, the manner in which Talib ranted was childish. He made some decent points, but he could have conducted himself better.

To be honest, when Talib turned his back and threatened to not do the interview, I'm surprised Don didn't just say ok and move on.

the CNN fuckery. That kind of stuff never comes as a surprise to me. When they get things right, I'm like, hmmmm what's their REAL agenda here?

I think that's really what it is. I think he's really representative of the high emotions and sensitivity in the atmosphere down there and it came through in the way he was speaking and his overall tone and mental state in that interview. Tough to just turn it off.

And I think he was getting somewhere good at the beginning but he was so emotional that he let the interview devolve, which is sad because now people can just write off what his original point was and be like "that dude cray".

I didn't think it was that bad, Talib was hype (understandable given the situation), Lemon was corporate (understandable given the situation). They squashed it like men. Would have I preferred for an actual discussion to take place? Of course. But they both have narratives they're trying to fill. Maybe it's me, but I remember people going off way worse on live TV/broadcast news back in the day. This is actually a bit refreshing.

Streets won't let me chill.

Like you said, given their respective situations and positions they both were understandably the way they were. And like you said, it's too bad it had to devolve because Kweli had some actual substantive things to say...Don just had producers in his ear on some "DON'T LET HIM TRASH TALK THE MEDIA" which is why it started to go downhill, then Kweli's emotions took it deeper into that hole.

the amount of time spent talking about the issue vs them having a slap-fight was totally out of wack

How are u gonna ask me why I feel a certain way, then interrupt me mid-sentence to tell me that I'm wrong? Don could have yielded, then said "well we are trying to be balanced, but I'm sorry u felt that way", but he was hitdogging. U can't have an objective discussion with someone who clearly is not trying to be objective. Don went on to say that there were thousands of stories and it was only his perspective, but it sounded like Talib was speaking on a specific incident that he was involved in.

Talib did seem a lil' sensitive about their greeting and even if it went down the way he said, he shouldn't have used that time to bring it up. Don works on tv daily as a journalist/host and should know how to diffuse the situation better.
