Photograph: Mel Melcon/AFP/Getty Images The singer Cee Lo Green has discussed a court case in which he pleaded no contest to supplying ecstasy to a woman in a series of tweets, including one that read: “People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!”
The woman had claimed that she had no memory of the period between dining with Green at a sushi restaurant in 2012 and waking up naked in the singer’s bed.
Green’s lawyer argued that Green, 40, and the woman had “consensual relations”. No rape charges were filed due to lack of evidence.
In the tweets, which were subsequently deleted, though preserved by a user of the site in screengrabs, Green added: “If someone is passed out they’re not even WITH you consciously! so WITH Implies consent”.
On Friday, Green pleaded no contest to a felony count of supplying ecstasy. He was sentenced to three years probation and 45 days community service.
On Sunday, Green aired his views on sexual assault while discussing the case on Twitter. Other tweets included: “When someone brakes on a home there is broken glass where is your plausible proof that anyone was raped.”
Green, a former judge on the American version of talent show The Voice, and whose international hit singles include Crazy and Fuck You, later apologised. On Monday, he posted a series of tweets including “I sincerely apologize for my comments being taken so far out of context ... I’d never condone the harm of any women.”

As far as I know, nobody gave him the key to the city or voted him Man of the Year after that ... but are you gonna tell me that you are not gonna dance when "Step in the Name of Love" comes on because the man who wrote it might be a creep?
What should we have done with R. Kelly? They tried him in court and couldn't convict him... life goes on. It's not as if he was not subjected to a stream (pun intended) of piss and pedo jokes after that. Nobody really buried the memory of what happened (though I guess nobody took it as seriously as they should have either... but that was largely for lack of detailed info about the case).
But the man kept making good music and good music speaks for itself.

See, the problem I see....is that if your personal feelings about an artist are attached to your appreciation of their music....you can't really be objective about their personal lives.
This is why people want to bend over backwards defending an artist and why artists get away with shit that other people can't. Do you REALLY believe that MJ didn't molest kids? Or are you battling that consideration with your appreciation of his music?
It's much safer and healthier for everyone if we just draw a line between praising the artist and praising the art.
I know a lot of talented musicians. I can say FOR SURE that the quality of their character has absolutely no correlation with their ability to play and perform.

I think he's saying she WASN'T unconscious. 'if she was unconscious, then how come she was engaged in the act with me? You can't be WITH someone if you're unconscious and she was WITH me.'

If he slipped her ecstasy, he needs to go to jail, but this story doesn't add up at all. Maybe he gave her E, and she agreed to have sex in her altered state (still sexual assault) or he gave her ambien/roofies/ghb/whatev and raped her while she was unconscious, but the story, as presented, did not happen.

Public criticism is mounting against rapper-actor CeeLo Green, a former judge on NBC’s “The Voice” who was the center of a recent TBS reality series, after controversial statements he made via Twitter during the weekend regarding the nature of rape.
The tweets, now deleted from the account, asserted that women can only be raped if they are conscious, and compared rape to a home invasion. Green faced allegations of sexual assault in 2012, and on Aug. 29 pleaded no contest in Los Angeles to a drug charge.
The outrage stirred by the comments sparked calls for TBS to cancel the reality show “CeeLo Green’s The Good Life.” However, a source said the show was already axed after it completed its first season run earlier this year.

To be absolutely clear, all I'm saying is that I'm more likely to question a headline like this when it comes to black entertainers ESPECIALLY if they ever said anything pro-black.
Like I said earlier tho... if Cee-lo really did this, then I can't defend him. All I can really say about this is that those tweets are uncharacteristically unclear for a clear and intelligent writer like Cee-lo. None of it really adds up, imo.

The Turner-owned cable network has canceled the unscripted series after one season, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The unscripted series bowed in June and has already completed its six-episode freshman run.
The reality show featured Green as he juggled his schedule of producing, recording and performing.
The series averaged 677,000 viewers when factoring in seven days of delayed viewing, with 403,000 among adults 18-49.
TBS' decision to cancel The Good Life comes as the former The Voice coach is mired in controversy following tweets over the weekend about the nature of rape.
The musician/TV personality has since deleted the tweets in which he implied that women can only be raped if they are conscious. He also compared rape to a home invasion. "If someone is passed out they're not even WITH you consciously! So WITH implies consent," Green wrote. "People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!" he added.
Green pleaded no contest in August to a felony count of furnishing ecstasy to a woman. He faced sexual assault charges in 2012.
TBS' decision comes after women's rights group UltraViolet petitioned the network to cancel The Good Life.
Sources tell THR that the network's decision to cancel the series was based only on its ratings performance.
