"According to tmz, NFL never asked to see the tape (Ray Rice part 2)"
Tue Sep-09-14 08:20 AM by CyrenYoung

I hope the mods don't mind making another thread. That other post got pretty disgusting.

http://m.tmz.com/#Article/2014/09/09/nfl-ray-rice-video-elevator-attack-fiancee-casino-footage

The NFL NEVER contacted the casino to request video of Ray Rice brutalizing his fiancee ... TMZ Sports has learned. Commissioner Rodger Goodell made his disciplinary decision in the dark, which raises the question ... Is that the way he wanted it?

Sources connected with the Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City tell TMZ Sports ... NO ONE from the NFL ever asked for the video inside the elevator ... video that was compelling enough to get Rice instantly fired.

Sources who worked at the casino at the time of the incident tell us ... if the NFL had asked for the video, they would have gladly complied.

Without video ... Goodell blindly justified the initial 2-game suspension, based on the only evidence they had -- from the 2 people in the elevator, who called it mutual combat.

Multiple sources tell TMZ Sports ... the casino made a copy of the elevator surveillance video for police. We're also told Rice's lawyer had a copy of the video which he got in the criminal case.

An NFL source tells us they requested "any and all information" from law enforcement in the criminal case but got nothing because it was a pending case. But the NFL had other options ... namely going to the casino or Rice's lawyer -- but the NFL never bothered to ask.

BTW ... it may sound crazy for Rice's lawyer to voluntarily hand over the video, but the NFL had a lot of leverage ... in the form of severe penalties if Rice didn't ante up the tape.

So the question ... does the NFL have incompetent investigators, or was it just easier to protect a player and turn a blind eye to video that would have forced Goodell's hand? Both scenarios are pretty disgusting.

Ridiculous.

my whole takeaway is, men: control your emotions. constantly. in every situation. when a man responds to a situation emotionally...IF it goes left which it very well may, he could lose his job, his career, his livlyhood, his fortune...and everyone down with him loses too. its too much at stake. dont do it

also...my generation MUST step up and help mentor the younger men in HOW to diffuse a situation. are there times you MUST literally fight, of course. but thats last resort shit. ANY situation with a angry pissed off woman can go left ASAP. that shit is going to start out left. theres no winning there...unless you leave. asap. walk the fuck away. quickly. dont touch her, dont say shit, just bounce.

last but not least i HATE the hester prynne shit in america where everyone has to express THEIR revulsion too and my revulsion is even MORE disgusted than yours etc etc

NO im not defending ray rice. nobody is. he was dead wrong. we knew he was wrong from the 1st viewing of the shit when he literally DRUG her out the elevator. motherfuckers dont just spontaneously pass out. we knew he knocked her out from then. he should have been suspended the whole year from the door.

but now its done...NOW how does this help other DV victims? how does this teach men to NOT hit their women? like...the reactionary shit ongoing right now...is dumb. lets be PROACTIVE for once

oh well

I think NFL niggas and athletes in general will think twice before putting their hands on women.

Has a player been caught with a gun since Plaxico?

I hear you on the FB revulsion though. There were a few F'd comments in that other post but I think Case One got a bit of a raw deal.

Are you familiar with Aldon Smith and Aaron Hernandez?

How about Da'Quan Bowers and Mike Goodson?

Those are just some recent ones I can think of, the Plax thing was a while ago now.

those who watch sportcenter religiously know how these players get down.

This is why you have guys who aren't all "HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?"

It looks insensitive but in reality some of us aren't all that shocked by this story... we shocked by the video and lies by the NFL but this ain't the first time we heard about DV in the NFL.

82. "statistically i dont think athletes are more prone to DV though"
In response to Reply # 45

in fact there was a study on that and it included that people in positions of authority were the ones who had the highest proclivity toward DV (cops, teachers ... all the people we pump up by putting athletes down in popular culture).

i think the size and race of the players as well as the violence of their profession make it seem like an easy assumption to make. but i bet if you looked at all the factors at play, being a football player would not be particularly significant.

but of course i also don't think they are any *less* prone to DV than the average person, and DV is extremely common unfortunately. so am i surprised? no. i am just mad that the NFL and the NJ State Police are rushing into a line to say how fucking incompetent their investigators are rather than admitting the truth, that they swept this under the rug and crossed their fingers no one would lift it.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

No one knows the pain that the media & unwanted options (opinions)* from the public has caused my family. To make us relive a moment in our lives that we regret everyday is a horrible thing. To take something away from the man I love that has worked his ass off for all his life just to gain ratings is a horrific. THIS IS OUR LIFE! What don't you all get. If your intentions were to hurt us, embarrass us, make us feel alone, take all happiness away, you've succeeded on so many levels. Just know we will continue to grow & show the world what real love is! Ravensnation we love you!"

and so i'm satisfied w/the outcome of his criminal case. i agree he deserves a 2nd chance as far as his liberty is concerned.

also, if his employer (NFL/Ravens) have terminated him b/c of his conduct i'm satisfied w/that too. i don't think the NFL or the Ravens owe him a 2nd chance. however, since he has 'only' been suspended and not banned it seems he may have another chance in the future w/some other NFL team if not the Ravens. i think that's fine too.

and though it was a violent offense, there was no significant bodily harm to the victim. and she has forgiven him.

i have not said and do not agree that he should walk away w/o any criminal penalty. it just shouldn't be jail or prison. and i assume he sat in a jail for a day or 2 pre-trial.

i think he should be placed on probation and ordered to be evaluated for anger management treatment. he should also be ordered to perform several hours of community service - preferably w/an organization that serves victims of domestic violence.

if there's another offense while he's on probation then maybe it's time for jail.

the process of healing, moving forward, improving their communication and quality of life is essential.

this family deserves the right to handle this privately. unfortunately, that's damn near impossible at this point.

the fallout from this is brutal.

FOH.

and having done so is how I KNOW that what she is saying exacerbates the problem.

"Also, I would consider this violence against women or intimate partner violence but NOT domestic violence b/c they weren't at home. Although, it wouldn't surprise me if he hit her at home too.

I know people (women mostly) that said Jay should've pressed charges b/c Solange was wrong as hell. <<<Does not change the fact that ipv against (Black) women at the hands of (Black) men is a bigger problem than the former scenario."

it feels like dogpiling, IMO

this is not only alot to assume

but to put the disparity of violence against women, on one man, and in this context

IMO, does not add up

conversely, it could just as well be that he made A mistake

I feel like people want this to be Ike on some EAT THE CAKE ANN MAE!!!

but it just doesn't feel like that to me

I would gladly change my tune if in fact there was a history

and it could be established, although, again, I have to give the sideye to folks that point the finger at the NFL and not the justice system if that were in fact the case

but I do feel like most people just automatically made all of those leaps that you stated

without even seeing the evidence for themselves

or forming their own opinion

denotes violence that takes place in a home (i.e. the domestic sphere is one that is in a private 'home')?

I thought that was why people use intimate partner violence/violence against women b/c these things are regulated to the domestic sphere??

My bad if DV is the catchall term tho.

A. Not me.

What leaps?...I assumed he was dragging his fiance's body after physically assaulting her, was I wrong about that or was my deductive reasoning accurate? Like, I guess that's the difference between us...I had clear evidence in the 1st video that he was the cause of her being unconscious *shrugs*

Some employee who had access to the video grabbed it on the way out and sent it to TMZ for a payday (or whatever reasons they may have had). It's well known that TMZ pays for shit like this.

If Roger Goddell didn't see the tape, I think it was strategically on some hear no evil, see no evil. Like, if we don't see it, we can pretend it doesn't exist and we don't have to know the extent of how bad this is and we can slap him on the wrist.

That said, I do think the Roger Goddell and the NFL saw the tape.

He shouldn't have been knocking his fiance out in public with cameras around. The public no longer wants to pay for his salary because the public has gotten a glimpse into a side of him that they don't agree with.

None of this stops him from being a husband, a father, or living his life. They can remain married, he can be forgiven, they can move on in life and love. This stops the public from supporting Ray Rice because of Ray Rice's actions. It may be a dogpile, it may be completely justified, whatever. He doesn't get to determine how people react to his actions. Had he wanted no possibility of public reaction he should have relegated his domestic violence activities to the inside of his home. Maybe he should have fired his publicist for not telling him that.

Don't jump in the limelight if you can't handle the glare.

i catch the short end of this stick when i get to hear
politicians talk about how gay ppl are ruining america,
so now idiots go and vote on what rights i should and should not have.

fortunately, there is a counter movement to shame ppl that shame gay ppl,
and i'm all about that. i'm glad they are losing this culture war
and i enjoy seeing the ppl that want me to not be comfortable with being gay and
want me to not have civil rights are losing ground.

similarly, we as a society, have determined that ppl
that knock women out in elevators because _____ should be shamed.
i'm actually okay with that.

and before bloocolar and company come in with some dumb shit,
i also am in favor of women that abuse men (yes, it does happen a lot)
should be publicly shamed as well.

i hope that movement gains traction (although trying to use this PARTICULAR woman
as a figurehead for the tyranny against men is counter productive).

anyway, good luck with this.
i don't know where you are going with it.
but whatever point you are trying to make,
i am sure you are using the wrong case to illustrate it.

Really, this isn't about Ray and Janay or domestic violence. This is about the league protecting itself after a botched punitive process and the Rices and their daughter are collateral damage. Goodell and co. aren't being forthcoming about what they knew or intentionally stayed away from the tape to establish ignorance if it ever saw the light of day.

the "new" video shed more light on the situation, but what we knew was bad already and everyone had moved on. TMZ is just exploiting the situation and the NFL is in spin control mode.

What he did was inexcusable, but my only hope is that they can move on and it's not something that continues.

In response to Reply # 0
Tue Sep-09-14 09:34 AM by Marbles

This is OKP so I need to say that even spitting at him doesn't justify the way he hit her.

I wonder what the hell they were arguing about.

***

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2014/09/09/longer-rice-video-shows-obscenities-spitting/15321141/

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Ray Rice and Janay Palmer can be heard shouting obscenities at each other, and she appears to spit in the face of the three-time Pro Bowl running back right before he throws a brutal punch in a video shown to The Associated Press by a law enforcement official.

The video, shown to the AP Monday night, includes audio and is longer than the grainy TMZ Sports video released earlier that day. After the TMZ video made its way around the Internet, the Baltimore Ravens cut Rice and the league suspended him indefinitely. Rice was originally suspended for two games and coaches and others had praised his behavior since the arrest for striking his then-fiancee in February.

The videos show Rice and Palmer in an elevator at an Atlantic City casino. Each hits the other before Rice knocks Palmer off her feet and into a railing. Months ago, a TMZ video showed Rice dragging Palmer, now his wife, from the elevator at the Revel casino, which closed on Sept. 2.

The higher-quality video shown to the AP shows Rice made no attempt to cover up the incident. After Palmer collapses, he drags her out of the elevator and is met by some hotel staff. One of them can be heard saying, "She's drunk, right?" And then, "No cops." But Rice didn't respond.

The video was shown to the AP on condition of anonymity because the official isn't authorized to release it.

Coach John Harbaugh said he met with Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti, team president Dick Cass and general manager Ozzie Newsome after they saw the TMZ video, and they made the decision to let Rice go.

"It's something we saw for the first time today, all of us," Harbaugh said. "It changed things, of course. It made things a little bit different."

The action represented a complete reversal for the team, even though an Atlantic City police summons stated that Rice caused "bodily injury to Janay Palmer, specifically by striking her with his hand, rendering her unconscious."

The Ravens had used words like "respect" and "proud" in referring to Rice following his arrest.

When the NFL announced Rice's two-game suspension for domestic violence on July 24, Newsome said: "We respect the efforts Ray has made to become the best partner and father he can be. That night was not typical of the Ray Rice we know and respect. We believe that he will not let that one night define who he is, and he is determined to make sure something like this never happens again.

Asked Monday night if Rice misled him, Harbaugh said he didn't want to get into "all that."

"I don't think of it that way. Everything I said in terms of what I believe, I stand by," he said. "I believe that still, and I'll always believe those things, and (we'll) always stand in support of them as a couple, and that's not going to change."

Rice said in a news conference this summer that his actions that night were "inexcusable." But the Ravens never took action against him until after the second video was released.

The NFL, which has been working hard to promote the game to women, also took action after the explicit video was released. Commissioner Roger Goodell announced that, based on the new video evidence, Rice has been suspended indefinitely.

"We requested from law enforcement any and all information about the incident, including the video from inside the elevator," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Monday morning. "That video was not made available to us and no one in our office has seen it until today."

Rice's lawyer, Michael Diamondstein, declined to comment when contacted by The Associated Press.

Rice, 27, stood to make $4 million this year.

"Obviously, any video that depicts an act of violence in that video is disturbing to watch. For our union, we have an unshakable position against any violence, certainly domestic violence included," NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith said at the Seahawks' facility in Renton, Washington. "It will be a time for us now to catch up with everything else that has occurred today."

He had been charged with felony aggravated assault in the case, but in May he was accepted into a pretrial intervention program that allowed him to avoid jail time and could lead to the charge being purged from his record.

After Goodell drew criticism not being tough enough on Rice, he wrote a letter to all 32 NFL owners in August saying he "didn't get it right."

First-time offenders now face a six-game suspension.

Rice began his suspension Sunday, when the Ravens opened their season with a 23-16 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. He was scheduled to return after Thursday night's game against Pittsburgh.

He leaves the Ravens as the second-leading rusher in franchise history, behind only Jamal Lewis. A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Rice is the team's career leader in total yards from scrimmage (9,214) and is the only player in Ravens history to rush for 1,000 yards in four consecutive seasons.

But those are mere numbers, and his actions in that elevator shed a new light on him.

"I'm not going to go into what he told us or anything or if it matches or if it doesn't," Ravens receiver Torrey Smith said. "That doesn't matter. What matters is what you see. It wasn't a pleasant sight at all."

Rice hasn't spoken often to the media since his arrest, but on July 31 he said this is "something I have to live with the rest of my life."

He added: "I know that's not who I am as a man. ... I let so many people down because of 30 seconds of my life that I know I can't take back."

In response to Reply # 0

The Commish and NFL responsible for player discipline dropped the ball. Ok, I understand. Ray Rice accepted responsibility for his actions and is currently dealing with the consequences of his action. I understand that. Ray Rice's wife CHOSE to forgive him and stand by his side through this mess. I understand that, although she gets no sympathy for me based on HER CHOICE.

What I do not understand is what people, not involved on this situation personally, want from the NFL, Ravens, Ray Rice and his wife? The NFL and Ravens dropped the ball. They attempted to correct their mistakes by suspending Ray Rice indefinitely as well as terminating his contract. He is no longer playing in the NFL and may not be able to get reinstated. What else do people want? They want Ray in jail? They want him to be executed? They want men across America to defer to women across America and take whatever abuse they may throw at men?

What do people want?

in the media, nothing shocks me.
i have been exposed to too many images to find something surprising.

but this... was extra.
i understand why ppl are still talking about it,
and i can't understand why some ppl can't understand why ppl are being so hard on ray rice.

maybe because he hit a woman so hard that marvel comics sound effects
came out of her head?

maybe because he registered no expression on his face
as he head smacked up against a metal railing?

maybe because he then drug her limp body across the floor
like a dresser he didn't care about?

i mean he hit her so hard i actually heard the street fighter II
announcer in my head saying:

"KO! PERFECT!!"

and that is shocking.
even to me.

so i can't understand why you can't understand why
ppl would still be reacting to seeing this footage 24 hours ago.

i mean,

damn.

But, do you understand that despite the brutal beating of his wife, she is STILL his wife? She chose to marry this dude right after getting floored? She chose to stay married and even sat by his side during a press conference?

People acting like they never seen or heard women getting abused before. People riding hard for this woman more than the woman involved in this situation. That is what trips me out.

Maybe this situation is beyond the couple involved. But, have you noticed that when it comes to discussing domestic violence, only one aspect of it is addressed? How many people know or give a fuck if an NFL player has or is currently being abused by his spouse? How many people called for Deion Sanders ex wife's head when she flew off the handle?

What more do you want and when will you or anyone else acknowledge that domestic violence or any other forms of violence is wrong and effect everyone involved? I believe there is a hidden agenda going on with this situation?

right.
and ppl are still rightfully shocked that she got stole on.

>She chose to marry this dude
>right after getting floored? She chose to stay married and
>even sat by his side during a press conference?
>

and ppl still were shocked that she got dragon punched in the face.

>People acting like they never seen or heard women getting
>abused before. People riding hard for this woman more than the
>woman involved in this situation. That is what trips me out.

yes, often time ppl that get abused stay with the ppl
that are kicking their ass. and it's not even difficult to understand.
if you have ever accepted behavior from ppl you like or love
that you wouldn't accept from other ppl, you should be able to empathize.

and don't say you've never done that, because we all do, to some degree.
maybe not for in cases as severe as this,
but yes. ppl often forgive ppl they like or love
quicker than they would forgive total strangers.

my mother has said foul shit to me and i still return her calls.
it's not THAT complicated, if you think about it for half a second.

>Maybe this situation is beyond the couple involved.

it is.

>But, have
>you noticed that when it comes to discussing domestic
>violence, only one aspect of it is addressed?

i agree that women can be abusers.
perhaps you could draw attention to that by finding a case
where a man is being abused by a woman.

if that's the case here, we don't have much, if any, evidence of that.
and the scant evidence that IS there gets overshadowed by the fact
that ray beat the breaks off his fiancé.

so if you want to make a point about male victims of DV,
you'd be well served to find another case to illustrate your point.

>How many people
>know or give a fuck if an NFL player has or is currently being
>abused by his spouse?

not enough.

>What more do you want and when will you or anyone else
>acknowledge that domestic violence or any other forms of
>violence is wrong and effect everyone involved?

i have. in this post, even.
but you are illustrating this point so poorly that it comes across
as disingenuous. tired.
just disgusting, quite frankly.

> I believe
>there is a hidden agenda going on with this situation?

no, i think ppl are shocked that he coldly sucker punched a woman in
the elevator and stood over her limp body like it won't no thing.

that's all that i see happening here.

and any attempt to make this point about a man kicking his fiancé's ass
into a men's rights issue is misguided at best and
mysogonistic at worst.

either way, it helps nobody.

that's what i see happening here.

Thank you for illustrating, poorly, that you have an agenda that has nothing to do with the case at hand. You don't care huh? But, wanna lecture people on how they should behave?

Bottom line is that I do not accept abuse from anyone. Make sure you understand this before we proceed. Next, Abuse is abuse and I do not have to show you evidence that men get abused. Why don't you do research and find evidence yourself, unless of course you believe men can't be abused.

Lastly, I saw the same videotape as you. But, your lil opinion about the matter does not mean shit because you lack the power to affect those involved in the video.

Ray Rice got dealt with. You want more punishment against him, right? Then, why don't you contact the courts and demand his arrest!

A victim is a victim is a victim. When you learn to stop cherry picking your agendas, then maybe you will gain a better understanding of how this shit works.

you a men's rights advocate?
you want to advocate for black men getting poor treatment in the media?

well then quit making you argument by using this case.
because using this case makes the argument you're making look ridiculous.

>Bottom line is that I do not accept abuse from anyone.

i said that, i agree.

>Make

i do, quite clearly.

Next, Abuse is
>abuse and I do not have to show you evidence that men get

i know men get abused. it's a serious issue that needs more attention.

>Why don't you do research and find evidence yourself,
>unless of course you believe men can't be abused.
>

i've done the research. i know it happens. i know it's under reported.
and i still wouldn't use this case as an example to illustrate my point
because i actually care about men's rights.

>Lastly, I saw the same videotape as you. But, your lil opinion
>about the matter does not mean shit because you lack the power
>to affect those involved in the video.

and yet, the ppl involved with the video ain't the only ppl that matter.
clearly.

it's obviously bigger than the two of them.

i won't address the rest of that crap you wrote.
it's really irrelevant to anything being discussed.

I figured you were too lazy to look up cases where men are abused. Typical fake feminazi. We are done here. But before I end this unless bullshit with you, I will share this..

What matters to me is how I conduct myself around the people I deal with on a professional and personal level. I sent out a mission statement on Facebook to my peers and family sharing my views on this matter. The response I received was overwhelmingly positive, not to mention, that those who responded were women.

I am all about respect for the individual. I practice what I preach. Those who know me personally, can vouch for my character. But, I will tell you this..

I believe in self accountability from all adults. It does not matter who you are or where you are from, if you choose to deal with certain people, then you must accept the rewards or negative consequences that comes with said interaction. If a woman or man want to love an abuser, whether physical, verbal or emotional, then that is something that they have to deal with. If a person choose to not control his AND(please read) her behavior and want to put hands on people, then he OR she must accept the consequences that comes with it.

I do not save those who choose to not be saved and if I ever decide to break out my cape, then I expect that person to respect my valor and do the right thing. Otherwise, take that asswhoopin like an adult and hopefully that person has made peace with his or her God, has good medical insurance along with life insurance and burial insurance. I may even use a portion of my paycheck to get a nice suit for their upcoming funeral.

Thanks for the entertainment. It was a pleasure..lol

Maybe the same for the comish, that or a loss of his job/well being. Probably an end to men (especially black men) as a species.

Then they would turn on something else.

...considered to be a role model again.
People don't want their son's to grow up to be like him or their daughters to be like her. Had his only contact been with adults and not as a mentor, the fall out probably wouldn't be as bad. Unfortunately he was out in the world having clinics and influencing young kids, who may have looked up to him. Now "people" are trying to undo that.

I'll go out on a limb and say that:
Most parents don't want their daughters to be beaten by men.
Most parents don't want their sons to beat women.
Most parents don't want their children to be either the aggressors or victims of abuse, whether it's at the hands of strangers, friends, or family.

Personally I don't care about any of that. People make mistakes and I think it would be compounding his error into another one if we shun him and what he might have to offer for the rest of his life.

I am not unforgiving toward Rice or critical of his wife, that's not really productive to me. Like I said, I am more fascinated and also repulsed by the handling of this incident by the team and the league.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

I don't care about them anymore than I care about the next person. I care about the situation and the "cause" but I don't have any plans to meet either of them personally. This is not something that I can have any more of a direct influence on than as a part of the "public opinion". My investment goes as deeply as my desire to procrastinate and avoid handling the things that I do care about. In that respect my investment in this topic is just about up. I will be taking my verbose typing habit to a realm where it matters.

It will be tossed around in the media until something else catches fire.

some dude said it best yesterday, ray rice didn't get shitcanned because the NFL or the Ravens saw the video, he got shitcanned because YOU saw the video.

big-money, corporate liars doing what they do, and yes, it should make us angry.

i don't care about rice or his marriage, really. he was an entertaining player and that's what i paid attention to, not his personal life. for me the intrigue in this story is all about how gutless and dishonest the powers that be have been.

Call it what you want. The NFL fucked up. The Commish fucked up. They made changes and he is out of the game. Now what?

Let's admit that this shit is about giving Black men the maximum level of punishment when they do horrible things whereas when they are victims, you hear crickets chirping.

Personally, Ray Rice got what was coming to him. Cause and effect. Let's also admit that when a non-Black man does the same shit, that they receive a lil more compassion from the general public. Lastly, let's admit that big corporations need more prison labor and need more people to fill their prisons. Why not hit up the NFL? They got plenty of fit, athletic bucks who can make them big bucks.

if Bret Farve was on tape dropping a woman like a sack of potatoes,
he would get the exact same reaction.

someone brought up Ben rothleisburger.
except, if was raping a woman on tape,
he would have gotten the same treatment.

racism runs deep.
but not that deep.

come on, fam.

he hit a woman in the face with a tiger upoercut and
then kicked her while he was knocked out old.

this is not the place to make your stand on this issue.

again, this is so irrelevant to the discussion that i can argue
you are adding irrelevant points to the discussion to undermine yourself
and make the points you are ostensibly trying to make look ridiculous.

if you were actually down for the cause,
you wouldn't be arguing these points.

so maybe you ain't down.

Prove that I am on the other side? I wanna see this shit? I want you to prove that I support Ray Rice's actions against women? I also want you to prove that I personally abuse women as well as prove that there is any paper work on me abusing women,in any court across this nation? I need this from you, now!

I said more than once that Ray Rice's actions was beyond foul. The NFL, Ravens and courts handled this case wrong. Now what?

Are you also pissed off that I do not believe on jumping on the woe is the stranger campaign? His abused wife forgave him, as you said you understood. But, since you did not forgive him, then he should receive whatever punishment that fit for your lil satisfaction.

Your self righteous ass think you know every fucking thing huh? Well..you don't!

You do not give a fuck about Ray Rice's wife! I see through your bullshit. You are the one trying to argue something that has nothing to do with me.

If you think my lack of compassion of Ray's wife is disgusting, then so FUCKING WHAT!

I get to choose who I give my compassion to and she is not one of those people I am going to ride and die for when she already made the choice to marry her abuser. Now, live with it and go do something constructive with your life.

The Commish said that he did not handle the case right. Every athlete interviewed, that I saw, do not condone his actions. His wife just released a statement going in on the media, despite getting the business way back. I believe that Ray is receiving counseling. I believe that he is remorseful and regrets his horrible and abusive actions as well as has his wife's support, which is what really matters in the end.

there are alot of things going on

main highlights
DV is under played and excused away
in this case by women, men, law enforcement, the justice dept, the NFL, Ray and Ray's wife

ran across this on tumblr so tumblr/twitter highlights:

http://browngirlblues.tumblr.com/post/97059898381/cheyennecheyenne-im-just-gonna-leave-these

"Black men get real cold and analytical when it comes to this Ray Rice shit. Same niggas was ready to riot over Mike Brown. Okay."

"Niggas was one hundred percent okay speculating about what Darren Wilson did to Mike Brown though. No "wait and see" tweets then."

"folks acting like we're not supposed to voice our disgust with Ray rice, the nfl & ravens or abusers in general"

"Very telling the issues folks will withold their empathy about. It's like it's too much for black women to get that emotional defense."

"Sad to see the divide that black women always discuss on here play out so quickly. We were all together on Ferguson. Ray Rice? Not so much."

"Niggas got screen names like "Justice For Mike Brown" but already "over" the Ray Rice incident. Okay..."

"Domestic violence happens every 9 seconds and we need to get over it already. But a black man killed by cops every 28 hours and we stay mad."

...
frankly dude is on point about his observations

you seem to not be clear on how sarcasm works.

you can't just say a thing, that's both irrelevant, untrue, AND not a thing you actually want to do.

that's not what it is.

the sake of arguing

3) Me suggesting that I'd rather go back to talking about Mike Brown IS sarcasm.

4) Yes, I, personally, can walk and chew gum at the same time, but in terms of HOT TOPICS on OKP, it has quickly gone from Mike Brown all day everyday to Ray Rice, with Mike Brown up through yesterday not even being in the first 3 pages.

5) Yes, I could be the one to lead the charge to get the Mike Brown discussion back kick-started (as the LEAD, TOP, topic of discussion -- again, stop playing dumb for the sake of argument), but I really don't care.

Hence, the sarcasm.

6) Get a life and go on with the rest of your day.

What Black Ray Rice Apologists and Racists Have in Common

Damon Young writes that the excuses many use to defend Rice's actions sound no different than those used to defend the killers of Trayvon Martin and Mike Brown

What Black Ray Rice Apologists and Racists Have in Common

Today marks a month since Mike Brown was shot and killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. Exactly what happened the day of the shooting remains unclear. What is not unclear, though, is the fact that Brown was unarmed and Black and Darren Wilson, the officer who shot him, is White and, as of today, free. These details combine to create a century’s-long context; as long as there have been Black people in America, there have been Mike Browns and Darren Wilsons -- unarmed Black men and women killed by armed White men. And whenever we are foolish enough to think we might progressed past that, there are more Mike Browns and Darren Wilsons to remind us.

This dynamic gives America a certain racial volatility; the conditions leading to the week’s-long unrest in Ferguson could have happened in Youngstown, Ohio or Charlestown, South Carolina or Oakland, California. And, for many Black people, this was not a surprise. Perhaps we were shocked at the stark visual evidence of the militarization of the police, the corrupt police department, and the generous financial and philosophical support Wilson has received. But we weren’t surprised by it.

This is America, after all. We know her very well.

What has been, if not most surprising, most disappointing, is what went on in many of our Facebook feeds and Twitter timelines and comment threads and break rooms and happy hours. Seeing people faced with this overwhelming evidence of some of the most conspicuous forms of injustice we’ve seen in a very long time, and having them still try to deny its existence or explain it away. These weren't minor quibbles over minutiae. This is you standing in the ocean, waves splashing against your ribs, undercurrents tugging at your feet, the faint taste of salt on the tips of your lips, while listening to someone tell you water doesn’t exist.

For (many) Black people, this is the most maddening and exasperating part of racism. Not the actual racism. But the denial that the actual racism exists.

Knowing this, and how frustrated so many of us are by this continuous insidious denial, I think about all of the doublespeak I’ve heard in the last 24 hours regarding Ray Rice. Some from people whose intelligence and opinion I usually respect. And I wonder how a Black person -- a Black person who’s just as angry as other Blacks are when (some) Whites (and some Blacks) deny that racism exists -- can actually attempt to excuse Ray Rice’s assault on his wife with a straight face.

I wonder if they realize saying “She might have hit him first” is no different than saying “Well, Michael Brown might have been high.” I wonder if they know that thinking this is all just a plot to disgrace Black men is the exact same thing as thinking George Zimmerman was just persecuted by overzealous race-baiters. I wonder if they’ve grasped that their unblinking support of Rice, even in the face of overwhelming visual evidence, makes them spiritual twins with the Staten Island teachers wearing t-shirts in support of the precinct that has seen two unarmed Black men die at their hands in the last year. I wonder if they realize arguing it was a fair fight between Janay Palmer and Ray Rice -- who, along with being a professional football player, is a trained boxer -- is as stupid as arguing Michael Brown was “armed” because he was 6’4 and 300 pounds.

Most of all, I wonder why some of us can’t exhibit the same compassion and sensitivity for victims of this type of abuse -- Black female victims especially -- that we demand White people give to us.

Of course, some will read this and completely miss the point. They’ll allege I’m throwing another brother under the bus. They’ll ask why they should even care. She married him, so she’s obviously fine with getting punched and dragged, they’ll say. They’ll cite other examples of something else happening in the world, and say some bullshit like “Why do you care about Ray Rice, but you don’t care about this other random thing that’s happening in the world that I’m only bringing up because I have no other argument.” They might even go meta, arguing if we really wanted to help Janay Palmer, we would have helped her husband stay employed.

And then some police officer somewhere will be caught on tape doing or saying something racist, and they’ll write a 500-word response on their Facebook page, calling out both the “RACIST-ASS COPS!!!” and the people who stand by and do nothing while racial injustice occurs.

And I’ll wonder if they’ll ever see the irony.

In response to Reply # 0

They saw that with the cursing back and forth and the spitting and concluded, wrongly, that she was partly to blame for the thrashing.

That's the only thing that explains this being reported in Deadspin:

"Privately, top reporters were told in no uncertain terms that the video existed, that the NFL had seen it, that it showed Janay Palmer acting violently toward Rice, and that, if released, it would go some way toward mitigating the anger against him. One of the league's most devoted mouthpieces described the video for us on an off-the-record basis, going off what his sources had told him. The implication was clear: If you saw this video, you'd know why Rice only got two games."

Now this other footage is released and all the focus is on the actually hitting and everyone is looking at the NFL like WTF?

That would also explain why the NFL can say they did not see this footage but have in fact seen footage inside the elevator.

In response to Reply # 0

made the serious issue of Domestic Violence into a focused man hunt filled with verbal assaults, while making Ray Rice the Scapegoat. And we watch him get Lynched and torn to pieces.

Yes, he hit is wife, he admitted it. He paid the initial price for it. He owned it. He repented for it. He was forgiven for it. He is getting the required support for the matter to help him deal with whatever triggered his reaction and to help him manage himself going forward.

But the verbal condemnation, written vitriol, and repugnant comments that were spewed about this man and this mans wife is deeply disturbing. Now he's a pariah, he's going to be boxed into a corner of depression that's not warranted. His wife suffered the blow, the embarrassment, and now just because she chose to stand by her man she is now being attacked. She is now being call all kinds of names.

Social media and the news have created a virtual lynch mob and we witnessed the mayhem.

So what does this do? Does it help prevent or push the cries for help further under the ground. Does it cause battered spouses to keep more quite instead of asking for or seeking help for their abusive spouse?

Does this shed a helpful light to create a new path to darkness and hiding?

Does it force abusers to not seek help for fear of further repercussions?

Does it create a new tool used by many for blackmail?

How would an abuser seek help for their deeper issues if they know they will be ostracized for the revelation?

These are just questions. But I have a heart for people in trouble those who have done wrong and those who have been wronged. I have a heart for the repentant criminal and the victim, because I have a heart for People that are trying to overcome an issue. I hate to see people suffer when they are trying to get back to a good and right place.

And I'm especially ashamed of the people that called themselves Christians for their part in this Social Lynching.

Playing in the NFL is a privilege not a right.

If he is really contrite and his marriage love is really true, not being in the league any more shouldn't matter.

Floyd Mayweather Thinks The NFL Was Too Hard On Ray RiceExpand

Boxer and serial batterer of women Floyd Mayweather said yesterday that he doesn't think it was fair that Ray Rice received more than the initial two-game suspension, and that the NFL overreacted to video of Rice cold-cocking his fiancée.

"I think there's a lot worse things that go on in other people's households, also," Mayweather said. "It's just not caught on video, if that's safe to say."

Mayweather, who has been convicted of, pleaded guilty or no contest to, or pleaded down from at least 15 combined counts of domestic violence, battery, harassment, stalking, and violating a protective order, said that he himself has been falsely accused before.

"Like I've said in the past, no bumps, no bruises, no nothing," Mayweather said. "With O.J. and Nicole, you seen pictures. With Chris Brown and Rihanna, you seen pictures. With (Chad) Ochocinco and Evelyn, you seen pictures. You guys have yet to see any pictures of a battered woman, a woman who says she was kicked and beaten (by Mayweather). So I just live my life and try to stay positive, and try to become a better person each and every day."

Mayweather fights this Saturday, and you really ought to read this before then.

http://deadspin.com/stephen-a-smith-doesnt-think-the-nfl-has-a-domestic-vi-1633022629

Yesterday, the National Organization for Women released a statement calling for NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's resignation. "The NFL has lost its way. It doesn't have a Ray Rice problem; it has a violence against women problem," the statement read.

First Take host Cari Champion read a passage from this statement on the show, and then debate was embraced. Skip Bayless said that maybe Goodell should go; Stephen A. Smith went full Facebook commenter.

"I'm sorry, I think this woman is off her rocker. I think she's lost her mind," Smith said. "That's right, I said it."

It's basically never advisable to keep saying things after saying, "I said it," but Smith didn't stop there.

"This is the most ridiculous nonsense I've ever heard in my life. Roger Goodell deserves to lose his job? Why are you acting like he's Ray Rice? Roger Goodell didn't hit Janay Palmer Rice. He hasn't hit any women. And by the way, the last time I checked, Skip, why are we talking about the NFL as if it's some cesspool for domestic violence? There's a few cases. It's being dealt with."

Champion stepped in about halfway through, saying, "Well, we gotta wrap," but Smith was working himself up.

"What the hell is this?" he asked. And then he started to yell, ranting for another minute and a half before ESPN cut to commercial.

This isn't a good look for a guy just over a month removed from a suspension he earned for talking about how women should make sure not to make men beat the shit out of them. The NFL quite obviously has a domestic violence problem, and actions like Goodell's initial bullshit two-game suspension of Rice are an obvious reason why. Goodell is, as Smith's colleague Keith Olbermann said, "an enabler of men who beat women." That Smith doesn't see this, or doesn't care, really tells us all we need to know about him.

nah.

(and by half-rode, i meant i could see him trying to articulate a hypothetical PoV without taking into account that he was not in a barber shop).

no idea why he'd step in on the side of the commish on this one when goodell clearly effed up.

also, that 'one or two cases' thing is going to come back to bite him in the ass. i've already seen a few stats floating around showing MAJORLY higher DV rates for nfl players vs., at least, what is reported among private citizens. homey dipped himself in honey mustard and lowered himself into the piranha pool on this one.

"Hardy was found guilty on July 15 of assaulting and threatening his ex-girlfriend in May. He has appealed the verdict with a court date set for Nov. 17, although his attorney said the case likely won't be heard until sometime in 2015, after the season ends.

Neither the league nor the Panthers have disciplined Hardy. The league announced a new disciplinary policy last month for domestic violence that includes a six-game suspension for a first-time offender."

initially, Ray Rice was charged, pleaded not guilty, entered into a pre-trial program, which upon completion, the charge will be removed from his record

at least that's my understanding, and I'm sure that will be scrutinized and investigated in the wake of recent events

BUT

this is a guilty verdict

and dude is playing

let's talk about that.

i.e.

the league handed down punishment to Ray Rice, in lieu of prosecution

while doing nothing in Hardy's case, given prosecution.
