That was all I was willing to entertain.

Somehow he struck me as both rehearsed and all over the place at the same time.
It might have something to do with how his assertions muddle the few good points
he mentioned (that are not his own btw; they've been a part of the dialogue within
educational reform for a while now).

we can safely ignore anything else he says on homosexuality. Or sexuality, period. If we need any interesting thoughts on sexuality, we should ask people who aren't stuck in a time where any deviation from the norm was considered a mental illness.

I personally have a problem with him ignoring the neurological substrates contributing to identity and gender association. I get that side of the issue and I don't care if people are gay or choose to be gay.

BUT

If were talking about about "being born" a certain way, why can't we talk about it?

i don't aim to change gay people, but taboo questions aren't off topic here either.

In response to Reply # 158

I told you exactly where I cut off the vid. He doesn't discuss any of
what you're talking about up to that point.

"Taboo questions"...?

You know as well as I do that the question of sexual orientation
having a wholly biological basis or being determined by various
factors hasn't been definitively answered. Honestly, I think the
question (and any answers yet to be discovered) are irrelevant
ultimately.

If you're genuinely asking for MY thoughts on whether being gay is
a choice or if people are born "that way" my answer is that sexual
fluidity is inherent from birth; some folks choose to embrace their
urges while others don't (for obvious reasons). Choosing to act on
those attractions varies in degrees and can change throughout the
course of a lifetime because sexuality is a spectrum for a lot of
people.

The desperation for people to find a new Malcolm X allows brothers like this to get a platform. There was truth in some of what he said but I could not get through it. The gay comments were so dumb.

because they know some shit. the 10% know just as much as the 5%. so to not only applaud but revere certain people bc they know some shit and ignoring how they spread what they know is naive at best and just plain ignorant and borderline idol worship at worst.

Taking the valuable info and disregard the
rest is the best course of action.
Hell I definitely don't agree with
everything Umar says, but to pretend our
children aren't being mis-diagnosed and
thrown away by the system is as naive as
blindly following everything he says.
I see it happening and am dealing with a
child who this has happened to now.
Child only twelve and convinced he "slow"
with no signs of being so.

i just don't fuck with the self proclaimed 'prince of pan afrikanism' and would rather point to more valuable sources of the same information minus the fuck shit.

the point being a lot of people revere HIM and don't parse between the real shit and the nonsense and its harmful to the movement as it were. people like him and the ray hagins and tariq nasheeds of the world make it hard for folks to even take 'the movement' seriously.
if we can even call it a movement at this point anymore.

There are folks who ride for everything he says
because of who he is
Then there are are folks who are against everything he says
because of who he is

It's the same kind of hero worship.
Why would it have to come from a perfect and blameless source if wasn't about hero worship?
That mindset is the only thing making the movement difficult.
You separated "real shit" from nonsense.
The movement is about real shit. Forget about the name. Let's just focus on the real shit.
Everything else is TMZ.

psychology and psychiatry. Like, they are two fairly different fields of study. I would expect a therapist who has a doctorate to be clear in articulating that difference.

I get not wanting to push drugs on our kids, but a LOT of black folks in general need psychological therapy, because of the stress of just existing in this country.

LOL at you for believing that it is legitimate. I for one have a degree in psychology and have worked with many psych patients and doctors and nurses. A lot of it is purely bullshit. People get misdiagnosed all the time and it is for monetary gain only. There's many people faking their symptoms to get a disability check and the doctor's go along with it because it fattens their pockets as well. Don't be a fool.

No I think you are misunderstanding this. PTSD is real and many other psychosis are real.... there are however many mental disorders that are questionable such as those mentioned by Dr. Umar. In the video he mentions ADD and ADHD which have a high diagnosis rate in Black children there should be questions as to why.... Autism in particular is a fairly new disease and is taking our country on by storm. Where did this disease come from?... there's no real cause of it. There's no cure for it... but there are many programs set up across the country for people to make money of those who are suffering. There's theories out there now saying that Autism could possibly stem from the immunizations that they are putting in children these days. Certainly something to take into consideration. For Schizophrenia there's a plethora of different symptoms that could lead to you being diagnosed schizophrenic. You could fake it like I said before and still be diagnosed. How can someone determine if you actually hear voices or see things? They take your word for it and prescribe medicine to you accordingly. There are cases where Schizophrenia is real as fuck so this is where the legitimacy of psychology comes into place. If you go to any of these mental health facilities after careful observation you will notice that a majority of these people were just drug addicts living on the streets. There are many who are really disturbed tho. These companies and doctors make hella money storing these people in these facilities, misdiagnosing them and keeping them sedated on medication.

As far as your cousin I say this to everyone who has a family member that is mentally disturbed. If you love that individual I would not advise to take him to a facility and leave him there, keep him at home where he is loved and can feel love. But you do want to take him to see a doctor to be prescribed the correct medicine for his symptoms. Other than that don't leave it up to these people to help your family member get on track. The longer he is off track and dealing with these issues keeps them in business. I hope this makes things a bit clearer for you.

Students Fear ‘Lesbian Gang’ At School
NBC10.com
School Holds Meeting On Alleged Threats
POSTED: 6:49 PM EST February 18, 2004
UPDATED: 8:16 AM EST February 19, 2004
PHILADELPHIA — Gang concerns brought parents and students together Wednesday at a West Philadelphia middle school. But the kind of gang may surprise you.
The gang is allegedly called DTO (for Dykes Taking Over) and made up of self-styled lesbian students.
Lesbian Gangs
Girls Fear Lesbian Gangs
Girls at the Turner Middle School allege that the lesbian students are harassing them with gay remarks. The straight students say lesbians are bullying, groping and harassing them in gym and in the girl’s bathrooms.
Parents of the students say the harrassment must stop before it becomes violent.
“I told them, ‘No.’ And they kept bothering us. (They) kept coming to us asking us to become gay,” said Felicia Anderson (pictured, left), a straight student.
Anderson, 14, said she doesn’t like it and it makes her cry.
Wednesday morning, Felicia and her mother joined around 24 other parents and students to meet with school officials behind closed doors for two hours at Turner Middle School.
“(I am) very angry. Now my daughter is afraid to come to school,” said Tonya Grandy, a parent of a student who said she was harrassed.
Other parents said they were also fed up with the sexual harassment from as many as a dozen 8th-graders at Turner.
“She called me last week screaming and hollering and crying because they had her in the gym cornered off, telling her what they were gonna make her do,” said Renee Alexander.
“Don’t nobody wanna be gay. Don’t nobody wanna be harassed. Don’t nobody wanna be scared to come to school,” said Kendra Branch, a student.
State Rep. Ron Waters, who attended the meeting, said all students were reminded about the school’s code of conduct. It includes policies against bullying and sexual harassment with consequences.
“(You don’t have to) accept it as part of growing up. They’re violating your right,” Waters explained.
Perhaps the most productive moment came when one mother, Barbara Crawford, whose daughter has been accused of harassment asked for help.
“Accusations, fighting and all that. Maybe my daughter is causing trouble. Maybe not. I know it’s a change and I need help. I’m going to do something about it if I have to walk her to school and pick her up — or even transfer her to another school,” Crawford said.
Crawford said she is pleased with how the school is handling this situation. Philadelphia schools have a zero tolerance policy regarding harassment and bullying. Officials at Turner Middle School declined comment on Wednesday’s meeting.

What do u propose we do with the thousands of our ppl who identify as such?
Should their behaviour be criminalized since y'all love comparing it to pedophilia?
Should the legacy of James Baldwin, Bayard Rustin, Queen Latifah and countless other black icons be set aside to make sure blk children don't look up to them?

I'm really trying to understand the end game of all this decrying the gay agenda. Once we all come to an understanding as a ppl that homosexuality is an abomination than what is the next move? We send our cousins, nephews, nieces, sisters and brothers to an island and separate them from us? Do y'all have a reform school to send them to to bring them back to the heterosexual fold?

Seriously, what the fuck is the point of all of this?

>What do u propose we do with the thousands of our ppl who
>identify as such?

What do you mean? You're saying this like their orphans or something and don't have a place to live. But to just answer this question we do nothing and we don't promote this behaviour on television and media. Simple.

>Should their behaviour be criminalized since y'all love
>comparing it to pedophilia?

No, but the point of him comparing homosexuality to pedophilia is because both have something to do with your preferred sexual partners. Has nothing to do with the criminality of both. Some can even argue that pedophilia is not even a crime considering the many countries where it is accepted. To add to that the age of consent varies across this country alone.

>Should the legacy of James Baldwin, Bayard Rustin, Queen
>Latifah and countless other black icons be set aside to make
>sure blk children don't look up to them?

LOL... in your feelings.

>I'm really trying to understand the end game of all this
>decrying the gay agenda. Once we all come to an understanding
>as a ppl that homosexuality is an abomination than what is the
>next move?

Just stop promoting it. Simple. It's like it's cool if that's your lifestyle but goddammit leave it out of my children's face. They shouldn't be able to just turn on the T.V. and see two guys smothering each other with kisses. It's just not right to me. How does promoting or even accepting homosexuality help our society? It's helps nobody but homosexuals to feel accepted, there will be many children who will experiment with homosexuality only because they see it on T.V. and think it's cool and may later on in life want to kill themselves for making such a mistake. Most gays don't care about this tho what they care about is their acceptance only.

>We send our cousins, nephews, nieces, sisters and
>brothers to an island and separate them from us? Do y'all have
>a reform school to send them to to bring them back to the
>heterosexual fold?

There are some programs in place across the country where there are actual people whom used to believe they were then gay realized how wrong it was, how it doesn't benefit our society and have transformed into heterosexual males. Why don't you do a bit of research before jumping the gun with your statements?

>to intimate that the media or single parents are the cause is

It surely isn't but the acceptance and promoting of homosexuality is and that is where we are making the wrong turn. Children are not sure about their sexuality by homosexuality being so visible to children it can only lead to confusion. That is the basis of my argument and I'm sticking to it.

I didn't say media was a cause. but it doesn't help either.

I didn't say anything about over sighting their mistreatment that is what you want to believe and that sucks because we as heterosexual men cannot seem to have an opinion although this shit affects our lives as well. More specifically our children.

So you're talking about mistreatment now.... well there are gay bashing laws out there so miss me with that... Everyone doesn't have to accept the gay lifestyle but that is what they are forcing on us and it is not right. Like I said I could care less if you are gay or not... My sister is gay... I just feel like that acts of affection should not be displayed on television. That's all... what's so wrong with me feeling this way?

Bro you keep going back to T.V. making people gay. STFU with that shit... I'm saying the displays of affection will confuse children... On one end they are being told by their parents who have their own personal view on homosexuality and may teach them that being gay is a bad thing but on the other hand it's clearly being shown on T.V. across America as if it's ok. What does that lead to? Confusion sir... Just be real. Once again we are not all entitled to accept homosexual lifestyle. My sister is like many other black women in this country, she was turned off by the ways men act in our society today. She wasn't born gay... she decided to be that way just like pretty much everyone else does. Some gay people will say they made a choice and some may say they were born that. The truth is everything is learned and you are not born any specific way in regards to sexual preference.

but, the basis of your argument hinges on the fact that you think its a choice.

What?... Children become adults and what they learn as children affects them as adults. A child can be taught to respect women at home by their parents but also look at T.V., listen to music and decide that disrespecting women is ok. This scenario is no different. Homosexuality is a behavior as just being disrespectful is... it is a choice in many situations... may not be all but it is a choice. If you can argue that being gay is natural then you can also argue that being interested in having sex with minors is natural. If you know anything about child molesters you'd know that many cannot control their urges for children which is a mental thing yet these people can be punished for it. Same thing can be said for a male wanting to have sex with other males. There's no real benefit to this lifestyle besides personal satisfaction. IMO both of these lifestyles are by choice at the end of the day.

My sister can be gay all that she wants and you anybody else can do the same... That's their life and their adult decision if they are adults making that decision. My whole argument on this is about how it is so accepted in society especially black and is being promoted on T.V. and thus aiding in influencing children to make childhood mistakes that could ruin their MINDS if they at some point realize that they are actually straight. I just see problems that you seem to not be able to visualize that is all. LIVE YOUR LIFE... OK!

I don't care what yall do in your spare time honestly but those values are foreign to me.

Yall go to extremism because no one is saying lock up all the gay folk or discredit anything someone did because they were gay.

But before we become super accepting (Piscean trait btw) of some social wave that is outside of our influence lets see how and who it benefits.

and the fact is we are animals. You can't invoke the base biological instinct to reproduce and simultaneously ignore nature's mean of controlling overpopulation.

In fact most of the world lives off of under 5$ a day and doesn't consume as much as the post industrial, imperial, colonizers of the planet who consume, destroy and pollute much more.

Ironically population growth is promoted in this countries(birth rates in European/ western nations is damn near 0)

>In fact most of the world lives off of under 5$ a day and

The thing is large swaths of the world's population is concentrated heavily in industrialized areas who do consume, destroy and pollute the planet's natural resources at an alarming rate.

The amount of money it takes to live outside of those areas isn't really relevant to this dialogue. That's an economic issue, so I'm not sure why you brought it up.

Mainly, because with scientific advances, we've figured out ways to live much longer than we used to. It's hard to see that because we're fed so much information about murder, diseases, etc. But humans have done a pretty good job of defying nature and figuring out how to be here longer. Combine that with us not living in harmony with nature, as you noted, means we're here much longer and in increasing numbers consuming finite resources. Something, somewhere has got to give.

We're consuming or contaminating resources like their infinite. We're making other plants and animals extinct with our behavior. We're friggin affecting the climate. If we could find a way to live in harmony with nature, we probably could be okay. There, however, doesn't seem to be much will on a massive level to move in that direction. So, population control will have to come into play, probably sooner than we think.

That said, I don't want to box in population control as the only reason for homosexuality. It's just one possible of many possibles for homosexuality to exist in nature. It's just one of the more obvious answers.

There's a myriad of shit in the natural world we don't fully understand. This is just one more of them. I can just tell you that with my lived experiences and the lived experiences that have been documented by others, most don't say they had a choice in what gender they were attracted to. Why is that? I don't know, but that doesn't make it any less innate.

however I think population control is something that represents how much disharmony there is within mankind. Truth be told it's already being practiced in the form of police killing the poor and black, refugees being left to die, child hunger being largely unaddressed, etc. I think all of these fall into one category and that's the human condition.

To bring it back to the overarching conversation about homosexuality. Nature finds a way for homosexuality across multiple species and control the numbers so it doesn't threaten the overall population. I don't get why people don't see the same thing in humans.

It's not that there are more gay folks now than there have been. We're just more verbal about our existence. Our existence, however, shouldn't threaten the overarching population of heterosexuals. It really ain't that deep, it's part of the varied human experienced. Respecting gay folks, will not bring about the demise of heterosexuality.

The act of heterosexual intercourse is meant to be pleasurable for a number of reasons. One of them being in order to make the process of procreating enjoyable. A woman who can not bear children has a biological problem as all women should be able to bear children* just as all birds should be able to lay eggs.

If a woman can not have children she can still enjoy sex because sex is meant to be enjoyable between both partners and bring them closer together as partners and help keep them together, but underneath that is the primary biological reason of pro-creation.

What is the biological reason for male to male sex? What is the fruit of that labor? A man will still ejaculate sperm that if it functions properly would create life but there is absolutely no way any life can come from such a union. Therefore that life is wasted from the start and not due to biological misfortune as is the case with an infertile woman. This makes the act itself inherently wasteful as the man's ability to create life is wasted despite the fact that it may promote a type of intimacy, however that seems to align with what Dr.Umar was saying about the father figure.

*Also an infertile man is a product of biological misfortune as all men should be able to produce viable sperm.

first, I love the way we are making "relationships" hetero or otherwise all about sex. Anyway, do you think that Homosexual sex is not enjoyable? Is that why you are explaining to me that hetero sex is enjoyable?

So what do you do about masturbation? What about couples that can procreate but choose not to? You are basically saying that if kids aren't at the end of it, the relationship is not valid.

They psychological and physiological health benefits of being in a committed relationship with another human being. There are a myriad of benefits to being in a long-term relationship that aren't related to procreation.

The act of heterosexual intercourse is meant to be pleasurable for a number of reasons. So that statement fails as I said "number of reasons" meaning not just sex.

Anyway, do you think that Homosexual
>sex is not enjoyable? Is that why you are explaining to me
>that hetero sex is enjoyable?

No I'm explaining that neither physical satisfaction nor emotional intimacy are the sole purpose of hetero sex-- procreation is; however when procreation is not possible the other aspects can still (hopefully) be enjoyed. However-- in a world without defect all sex would result in pregnancy whereas gay sex will never result in one partner fulfilling the primary role of sexual intercourse.

you skipped over this:
Underneath that is the primary biological reason of pro-creation. The primary function is to produce offspring. That is what sex has always been about-- reproducing. Gay sex is not about reproducing right?

No that's not what I'm saying and you know that. I think we can all agree that masturbation is wasteful and self serving without even looking at it through any sort of moral lens of right or wrong (and I'm not implying that we should be).

The relationship does not need sex to be valid-- sex however needs procreation in order to be valid as it has always been meant to produce children there is no refuting that unless you'd like to argue that we've "evolved" beyond the need to reproduce.

No, but the point of him comparing homosexuality to pedophilia is because both have something to do with your preferred sexual partners. Has nothing to do with the criminality of both. Some can even argue that pedophilia is not even a crime considering the many countries where it is accepted. To add to that the age of consent varies across this country alone.

because, what if I did this...

Lets compare heterosexuality to pedophilia, because both have something to do with your preferred sexual partners. It has nothing to do with the criminality of both. Some can even argue that pedophilia is not even a crime considering the many countries where it is accepted. To add to that the age of consent varies across this country alone. Further, since most pedophiles are heterosexual, there's even more basis of a comparison.

The ratio of heterosexual to homosexual pedophiles is approximately 11:1. These things are easily checked by my good friend Google. It's actually been tracked. You can have your opinion, but you can't have your own facts.

I never argued that there weren't homosexual pedophiles. I'm saying comparing pedophilia to homosexuality is flawed, when you consider that the vast majority of pedophiles are heterosexual. It was a dumb ass comparison to begin with.

How is it a dumb comparison? It's dumb because you want it to be that way. You show me proof where it has been found that there is a gay gene of some sort. You can't because you don't have the facts, you can have your opinion. Who cares if heterosexuals are more associated with pedophilia then homosexuals they both do it and I said in an earlier post that Pedophilia can be argued as to its validity anyway. Whether you are comparing homosexuality or heterosexuality to pedophilia, makes no difference. Your responses are very dumb IMO.

It's a dumb comparison, because sexual orientation is not an indicator for whether or not a person is a pedophile. Despite the fact that most pedophiles are heterosexuals, it's only pulled in comparison to homosexuality. Much in the same way white people like to act like only black people use welfare, when the numbers show the vast majority of welfare recipients are white.

Show me the proof where you chose your heterosexuality. You don't even have to show me a study. Identify the moment when you weighed your options regarding sexual orientation and consciously decided that heterosexuality. I'm highly doubtful you can do that.

You know as well as I that pedophilia is far different than a relationship between consenting adults. An adult being attracted to children is worlds apart from someone simply being attracted to the same sex. You can't minimalize it preference for children, as if it's like having a preference for blonds over brunettes.

Nigga, my proof of choice is that I don't get in the bed with other males. You don't think there are men out here who experiment in homosexual behavior. There's plenty women who were straight and have children who are now gay. There are many men who were straight and have children who are now gay as a result of a choice they made. I could decide today that I don't want women anymore and wanna get down wit men and then bam I'm gay.

Ok forget it cause you don't understand or even want to understand.

Nobody is born gay. There may be chemical imbalance in the brain, environmental factors, and biological factors, combined that can lead someone to a decision of being gay. if we are born with our sexual preferences we would be able to conduct test to see if when your baby is born whether or not he/she will be gay or not. We cannot determine that, the child that grows into an adult determines that. It's a choice.

Did you ever consider having sex with men? Or were you inherently drawn to having sex with women and acted on that? Studies on homosexuality are relatively new, but who's to say there won't be a test. I don't understand how anyone would think in our society someone would choose to be gay. Why would anybody choose to combat the ignorance of fucktards like you for their basic ass right to exist? The crazy thing is even if people do choose to be gay, so the fuck what?

Religion is a choice, but we have no problem affording people freedoms and respect on that basis. Far more people have been killed, tortured and psychologically fucked up in the name of religion than could ever be attributed to homosexuality.

No I have never had the desire to sleep with men, but there are men who have and have acted on that urge. But listen man people get urges and desires all the time to kill people but don't act on it. Does that make them a bad person in any way? NO. So a man can have an urge or desire for another man and not act on it does that make him homosexual? NO. Same thing for having the urge to sleep with children.

Or were you
inherently drawn to having sex with women and acted on that?

They are what I liked from the jump but I also knew that I could have children with women.

You so damn dumb.... I didn't choose to desire women inherently I desired women and I chose to have sexual experience with them.

I've said this already but here it goes again. There may be chemical imbalance in the brain, environmental factors, and biological factors, combined that can lead someone to a decision of being gay. My sister is gay once again. Please note.

The crazy thing is even if

Here's a definition for you...

sex·u·al o·ri·en·ta·tion
noun
a person's sexual identity in relation to the gender to which they are attracted; the fact of being heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual.

It's about what gender you're attracted to, not who choose to have sex with. The choice comes in with sexual behavior, which is completely different. There have been plenty of people that have participated in sexual behavior that doesn't match their sexual orientation. I can just see right now, you're too ill-informed to have this conversation. Hit the books, skip, you're out of your depth.

>When my statement clearly says I chose. I could've chosen to
>not have any sexual relations in my life at all, What would
>that make me then? Heterosexual?

If you were still attracted to women, then, yes, you would be heterosexual. There are plenty of people who are virgins well into adulthood. Depending on who they're attracted to, they can be either heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual or even pansexual. Again, we're talking sexual orientation, not sexual behavior.

Nigga if I have a desire to
>kill people and don't act on it does that make me a born
>killer? You niggas are weird.

Possibly, if you have a sociopathic disorder. Nigga, I ain't weird, I'm well-read, which you clearly are not.

Ok since you think you're educating someone with a word that is not even telling me anything. Since you think that I am not well-read...Here's some quote's from the american psychiatric association for you. Are you gonna disprove the people who actually study this shit. I'm highly educated homie because I am on the opposing side of what you think does not make me wrong champ. Get your reading up nigga.

"No one knows what causes heterosexuality, homosexuality, or bisexuality. Homosexuality was once thought to be the result of troubled family dynamics or faulty psychological development. Those assumptions are now understood to have been based on misinformation and prejudice. Currently there is a renewed interest in searching for biological etiologies for homosexuality. However, to date there are no replicated scientific studies supporting any specific biological etiology for homosexuality. Similarly, no specific psychosocial or family dynamic cause for homosexuality has been identified, including histories of childhood sexual abuse. Sexual abuse does not appear to be more prevalent in children who grow up to identify as gay, lesbian, or bisexual, than in children who identify as heterosexual."

The American Psychological Association stated, in its article titled "Sexual Orientation & Homosexuality," published on its website apa.org (accessed Mar. 12, 2015):
"There is no consensus among scientists about the exact reasons that an individual develops a heterosexual, bisexual, gay or lesbian orientation. Although much research has examined the possible genetic, hormonal, developmental, social and cultural influences on sexual orientation, no findings have emerged that permit scientists to conclude that sexual orientation is determined by any particular factor or factors. Many think that nature and nurture both play complex roles; most people experience little or no sense of choice about their sexual orientation."

"No one knows what causes heterosexuality, homosexuality, or bisexuality."

That is all you need to see. I am saying that there are a number of factors that may lead you to be gay. You're saying that they are born gay but there are no scientific facts to back that statement. As the psychologists have stated. I for one cannot go with the idea that all gay people are born gay considering the many examples I have shown you already. I have a sister that is gay that tells me that she doesn't feel that she was born that way. It was a decision that she made just like many others.

We haven't found a gene for it. We don't know if it's related to brain chemistry. Yet, it's generally accepted as something natural born. You described your lived experience with your heterosexuality being innate. Many have described their sexual orientations as innate. Just because we haven't found the precise cause for it, doesn't mean it's any less innate. Your only proof of choice has been sexual behavior which is related, but not synonymous with sexual orientation.

That same APA article stated that MOST, ie the majority of people had little to no choice in the matter. So, you're judging an entire community based on a clear minority. That's like judging all black people on the basis of one black person who has an ideology represented by the minority of the population. I'm not reaching for anything, but you clearly are.

No I'm not bro... All I'm saying is that we cannot just strictly say being gay or straight is something you are when you are born as considering that not all are born that way. Many have decided to be gay, but not all. So you can't lump all gays into one category it is more complicated than you are trying to make it seem. You can have murderous thoughts but you are not a murderer until you have actually murdered someone. You can have homosexual thoughts, urges and even tendencies but you are not a homosexual until you have engaged in Homosexual activity. Neither one of us is correct bro...

Here's a quote from an actual gay person. Don't be a fool young brother.

Cynthia Nixon, Sex and the City co-star, was quoted in a Jan. 19, 2012 New York Times Magazine article titled "Life After 'Sex,'" written by Alex Witchel:
"or me, it is a choice. I understand that for many people it's not, but for me it's a choice, and you don't get to define my gayness for me. A certain section of our community is very concerned that it not be seen as a choice, because if it's a choice, then we could opt out. I say it doesn’t matter if we flew here or we swam here, it matters that we are here and we are one group and let us stop trying to make a litmus test for who is considered gay and who is not…

Why can't it be a choice? Why is that any less legitimate? It seems we're just ceding this point to bigots who are demanding it, and I don't think that they should define the terms of the debate. I also feel like people think I was walking around in a cloud and didn't realize I was gay, which I find really offensive. I find it offensive to me, but I also find it offensive to all the men I’ve been out with."

>No I'm not bro... All I'm saying is that we cannot just
>strictly say being gay or straight is something you are when
>you are born as considering that not all are born that way.

I've never discounted one's environment as a a factor, but you've been arguing vehemently that that it's not innate. I know, through my lived experience that it absolutely can be. I grew up with strong male role models. I was never molested. I grew up with healthy heteronormative relationships modeled all around me. I grew up with religion and my family's cultural leanings reinforcing that. Yet, I still had an innate desire to be with members of the same-sex. The only choice I made was to not deny myself happiness for the benefit and expectations of others. I, however, never actively chose to be attracted to members of the same sex. I've yet to meet a straight person, yourself included, who actively chose to be attracted to members of the opposite sex. Now, why is that? I don't know. No one knows, but that doesn't stop it from still being there with me since as long as I can remember.

>Many have decided to be gay, but not all. So you can't lump
>all gays into one category it is more complicated than you are
>trying to make it seem.

You're right about this. However, the VAST majority of gay say they didn't choose it. That's not to say all, but the majority. You happened to have had experience with the minority who said they chose it. That's fine. However, you have to acknowledge that your sister's experience represents a minority of the community and, therefore, shouldn't be applied as a reliable source of explication for understanding homosexuality.

You can have murderous thoughts but
>you are not a murderer until you have actually murdered
>someone.

Yes, but this isn't an applicable, because murder is about behavior. Sexual behavior is related to, but separate from sexual orientation. If someone is consumed with murderous thoughts and no conscience, they are generally regarded as a sociopath. So, a more apt comparison would be is a person born a sociopath, since it regards the thought process, rather than the behavior. And the answer to that question is roughly the same, we don't know for sure. Yet, it's still primarily accepted as innate.

You can have homosexual thoughts, urges and even
>tendencies but you are not a homosexual until you have engaged
>in Homosexual activity. Neither one of us is correct bro...

This is where you are wrong. Sexual orientation only refers to the thoughts, urges and tendencies regarding sexual attraction. Sexual behavior is related, but separate. Before you ever had sex with a woman, you were only attracted to women. So, you were heterosexual. You didn't just become heterosexual, when you were devirginized.

Do you notice how she qualified that entire quote with "for me"? I'm not taking away from her experience, but it's not a majority experience. Further, do you notice how both examples you've pulled have been women? There are not that many men, yourself included, who will tell you they chose their sexual orientation. We all hit a certain age and had a physical reaction to what we were attracted to that we couldn't control. So, there's that.

Right so sexual orientation doesn't define whether you are gay or not just which sex you THINK you may like. A thought does not make you one thing or the other. My whole point of this argument is that some boys/girls today may grow up with this THINKING that they like males/females and may ENGAGE in homosexual activity as a result and may realize as an adult that he/she is actually not gay which can cause some issues within that young man or woman. This happens now but Due to the sensationalism of homosexuality this may be a problem in peoples homes later on down the line.... Sexual Preference comes once you have committed sexual acts and know what you want.

Until we get facts I'm sticking to what I believe tho.

Further, are you trying to argue that homosexuality is a result of hormonal imbalance? Because that would establish a definitive biological basis for it, which would be counterproductive to your argument, no?

Trans people and Homosexual people are completely different. They were initially grouped out of shared marginalization, but they are not synonymous. Oddly enough, however, there are species in nature that switch sexes and gender roles. So, it's not outside of the realm of the natural world.

I don't fracture spiritual from mental, physical, etc they all influence each other.

Biology has an influence but your environment awakens certain traits while ignoring others.

People have a symbiotic relationship with each other the planet and universe.

So no it doesn't go against my argument.

I don't think anyone on my side of the argument has stated that environment plays no role. However, we don't ignore that there is a biological instinct in the mix as well, especially when you're talking about dudes, to me. In my experience, you only physically respond to what you're attracted to at a base level. I can't speak on women's sexuality, because I don't have that experience.

Either way, it doesn't matter. Even if it was a choice, what does it hurt? How does my boring ass life, where I go to work, pay my bills and save for my retirement amount to the moral decay of the black community?

it comes from a dominant culture that does not have our best interest at heart.

If it came out of our own experience and not as a symptom of another social engineering and manipulation cool.

All I ask is how can we have diabetes, heart disease, obesity, cancer, schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, all these physical and mental ailments at disproportionate levels and not think our sexuality would be effect/affected in some adverse way?

Spiritual too ignoring out ancestors while worshiping the mythical ones of our former colonizers?

We need healing but we gotta know what is causing the sickness and all of its symptoms which I feel homosexuality in Black people for the most part is an outward projection of.

My instinct to be with a man doesn't come from the dominant culture. You know what does, though? The bullshit homophobia that is perpetuated by the religion that was forced on us.

>If it came out of our own experience and not as a symptom of
>another social engineering and manipulation cool.

Homosexuality is just as much a part of our experience. It's not like the vast majority of us still aren't straight. Those of us who aren't, however, shouldn't be relegated to a lesser level of human dignity.

>All I ask is how can we have diabetes, heart disease, obesity,
>cancer, schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, all these physical

But even when none of that existed at the current rates, the gay was still around. Your premise seems to be that homosexuality is a disease/disorder and that is inherently and patently false.

>Spiritual too ignoring out ancestors while worshiping the
>mythical ones of our former colonizers?

You bring this up, but it's the religion of our colonizers that drives vitriolic homophobia. Matter fact, the extreme homophobia that we're seeing spreading throughout Africa is being driven by white missionaries spreading misinformation about homosexuality. So, this point actually works more in my favor.

>We need healing but we gotta know what is causing the sickness
>and all of its symptoms which I feel homosexuality in Black
>people for the most part is an outward projection of.

Homosexuality is not the a symptom of a sickness in black people. The fact is black people are human, like every other race. And guess what? Literally, every other race has homosexuality, because it's a part of the wide and varied human experience.

...about some things.

A refreshing change in a lot of ways from the emotional-based arguments that we see all over the Internet nowadays. Like him or not, he's a far better at presenting his ideas that the twitter folks that think "lol, wut?" actually says something, or using ad-hominems to try and shut people up.

I'd like to see dude in a roundtable-type debate with a few people that have differing points of view.

Almost everybody here is wrong about Dr. Johnson's perspective, especially hom homosexuality. As soon as most of you saw where he was against it in the black community, that was it. Don't let me stop y'all, though.

And take a look at the assumptions made about someone they admit to not knowing anything about.

He's so on point with a lot of the points he makes. Especially what he says about homosexuality. It seems that if you have these particular views about homosexuality people want to avoid listening especially gay people. That's so unfortunate because that is why our country is just going to shit day by day. Many of you that are opposing his views haven't been educated to level he has and haven't worked with the types of people he has but yet will strongly oppose his views. What does he need some other white people or gays to cosign him in order for you to at least take his views into consideration? Shit is ridiculous.

but then he devolved into his OPINION w/0 facts for about the next 45 - 50 minutes

very dangerous, IMO

to have someone present as science

and then have diarrhea of the mouth about every other topic possible

w/no facts

I could see how alot of folks might fall for it.

In response to Reply # 0

That is 100 percent true. We need to stop allowing other people co-opt progressive messages for our people.

His other point about an alternative education system for our children was spot on as well.

He lost me talking about gay gangs. He's done the research and been involved on the ground so it's hard to refute his personal experience. However, it comes across wrong in 2015. I refuse to attribute pedophilia to the origin of the gay.

He makes valid points but others just miss me. I'll rewatch and come back.
