But for some reason even the nicest, smartest women sometimes get blinded hoping the shiny new porsche they're looking at can get the oil leak fixed. My sisters drove me crazy bringing home these leaky things they thought were porsches back in the day. I'm like c'mon now.

it's not that complicated.

the problem is people suffer from low self esteem about being poor and don't want to be with someone else like themselves.

and if you're female, it really doesn't matter.

Whether or not they dating they 'should' be spending their friday nights in the same inexpensive ways. It might actually be cost effective to date since they can split the cost of stuff...like a $2.99 rental.

with women who they're not dating and they think too good to date and they won't stay with after they impregnante them....

because they think they can do better ONCE x, y, z happens usually they get their money straight and it's sad for the children.

and the behavior is often delusional because once youre paying child support, getting your money together is often not possible.

ppl need to learn it's not shameful to be poor and they can love and be loved while poor.

But no on a serious note, you know how you do. You're very much the live and let live type and I get it, I really do. But it's like whatever the opposite of judgemental is, you operate on the extreme, extreme, extreme end of that spectrum for lack of better of better words. Some of the things I've seen you cape for, I know for a fact you wouldn't have advised or made those types decisions yourself. You gotta come to middle of the spectrum sometimes broham.

"...but you'll never lose women chasing money."

This is an old player saying.

Who can argue that building wealth, or at least security is a better focus than dating?

As for love and companionship, that tends to happen when your priorities are straight, regardless of income.

I was broke as duck while she was topping out at her job.

It took a year of being broke and bouncing around bullshit jobs before I had a real 40 hour paycheck with benefits and whatnot. I've had that job ever since and she's only slightly ahead of me income wise until I work overtime, at which point I'm the primary earner.

In 6 years we got married, had two kids, and are a couple of days away from closing escrow on the sale of our first home and moving into our second home, which is a significant upgrade.

Basically, taking your advice would have erased 6 years of increasing prosperity and a complete 180 shift in pretty much every facet of my life.

Conversely, after six more years of your philosophy on dating and relationships, you'll still be a single gold digger doling out the same terrible advice while you continue to convince yourself that your inability to find real love and intimacy is somehow due to glaring flaws in everyone but you.....all the while, everyone but you will know ow better.

Because I really couldn't afford a girlfriend, not even a proverbial 'cheap date' like my wife was. Shit I broke out coupons on an early outing. I had NO business even trying to hold a relationship with her because she had her shit together while I was truly a polar opposite of her stability.

The conventionally wise choice at the time, for both of us, was for me to remain single until I figured things out. We actually came pretty close to not working out at all before things finally turned around for me.

You know what sold her on me though? The fact that I was willing to go hold a sign on a corner for 8 hours a weekend, something I had done before and absolutely hated. The first stint had me in tears the first two weekends because at that point I truly believed that that was the sort of life I was destined for. That first stint preceded her, but she knew about it and saw that I was willing to do it again because, well, fuck it, it's SOMETHING in a vast sea of nothing.

The other thing that sold her was my insistence on paying for everything I possibly could, even when it hurt

And that's the heart of my point; Hannah is looking at circumstances, not people.

True story: A close friend of mine, very much a little sister type, called me about a year into my relationship with my wife. She didn't date through high school and in college found herself with two very different guys. She explained both guys and asked for my advice. I picked the guy that appeared to be less of a catch on the surface due to some subtle character elements that stood out in her descriptions of both guys.

Again, true story, they got married a couple years later. On the 5th of this month, my daughter and I attended the 2nd birthday of their daughter, which doubled as a pregnancy announcement and gender reveal party. She gets to be a stay at home mom, which was something she wanted.

Any story can be different if you change certain variables, but any time you view people strictly through the lense of surface circumstances while discarding the intangibles, you do so at the expense of potentially good options.

You shouldn't take out student loans and major in a non business, non computer, non engineering, non whatever field that does not allow you to pay back the student loan.

You shouldn't get off work and have a celebratory dinner because that's money you need to save.

'The fuck you in the club for? You blowing money hanging out with friends having a good time for nothing.

TL;DR life is short so live it. Stop worrying about what you should and should not be doing and enjoy life. This is a phase you will grow out of at some point no shots.

As human beings, as long as our needs are taken care of no matter how much we make, we're going to celebrate. Everyone in this post knows or knew someone younger that was broke and dating. Remember high school? EVERYBODY BROKE but they getting it in.

Human beings need to date and exist within each other's presence in intimate settings no matter the social status. Don't think I wasn't scheming on people at the hospital because clearly I ain't shit. She hurt and I'm hurt so let's heal together.

Live a little bit. I remember when I was, no shots, like this. Those were the days...

I find it pretty interesting that this post is even so controversial.

I mean, I don't even really WANT to date if I'm broke.
I just like to make sure my paper is stacking first.
If I ain't got money, I'm too busy trying to figure out how to get it to be worried about
dating, honestly.

Not that I'm a religious cat, but when I was, I heard a preacher talking about the creation
of Adam.
He said God gave him work first. A job, THEN a woman.
He said that, for a man, seeking a partner before work is putting the carriage before the horse.
Now that I'm typing that out, I remember that was Myles Monroe *RIP*
(hope I didn't screw up the message, but that's the jist)

Anyway, that's something that always make 100% sense to me. Establish YOU before
you go trying to build a family. That's the responsible way to do it.
If you find someone who's willing to be with you while you're broke, ok cool.
But I don't really understand SEEKING that... not for me anyway.

and they still have them.

this is like preaching abstinence to christian teenager, but not giving comprehensive birth control education.

everyone in the pews is still going to be fucking outside of marriage, so they may as well find someone they can respect and love.

any preacher preacher anything different is full of it, especially to the black community where 75% of children are being born out of wedlock.

it's not like we have an overabundance of black people in respectul loving romantic relationships.

I agree that you'll have people who'll still do it.
But there are those who respond to good advice,
so they shouldn't have to be deprived of it simply because others won't adhere to it.
(in response to the preacher comparison)

As far as us not having many examples, I still don't think that's a reason for
us to not start a conversation about more responsible living... especially as
it pertains to bringing more people into our society... I actually think that all
the more reason we need to be having this conversation.
I understand why we're fucking up, and I sympathize, but I yeah we can do better.

the age when most can "afford" children and a relationship. so nobody is being deprived of anything if preachers start preaching to only lay with someone who you would create a family with or to love the one you're laying with. two people making minimum wage CAN actually survive.

it, right?

I don't think there's a set amount you have to make to not be broke (or a certain age
you have to be).
Living responsibly reduces the amount of money needed to do anything.
I'm not necessarily talking about the amount of money
We might have two different views of what it means to be "broke" but if you can't
take care of you, save, and have money left, I think the search for a relationship
should be halted. That's what I would do at least.

there's levels to this shit

casual dating (i can't have fb's if i'm broke?) or dating dating.

plus different chicks got different standards and expectations and make different concessions for different dudes. some will date a dude without a car. some won't. some won't date a dude without a luxury car. some won't date a dude who don't got a jet. etc etc

Men who pay for sex usually can afford it. That's what we really are talking about here, right?

Otherwise equating dating with income and not realizing its another way of saying sex for pay is just a lie you're telling to yourself.

Why can't you pay if you like him so much and he brings other qualities to the table. It's call complementing each other.

Capitalism has done a number on us. I love you only if you make six figures and have a 401K.

Sad post.

Most chicks won't see this as a viable option because they think they need to have sex to interest men or need it to validate their desirability.

that speaks volumes about your attitudes about sex and relationships.

get right, sis.

ppl have sex b/c they want to. or at least they should. those who are out there 'giving' sex to get something are hustling backwards in most cases. if they end up fucked up that's fucked up. but regardless...i push back against the notion that all or even most women 'give' men sex - women have sex (or should) B/C THEY LIKE SEX. not b/c they're giving a man something of value in exchange for ___. that's a pretty cynical way to operate and i'm glad to know most ppl ain't caught up in that bullshit. if you are i weep for you.

fuck you.

Wow. So you are saying that to build a relationship. To fall in love with someone...it cost.

Hmmm. No offense, and I'm really not judging, but if you had any male admirers on this site, they might be questioning it now.

Honestly, I get what you are saying. But, if you are both broke and you are trying to build something together, then I commend them. I mean my now hubby and I were broke ass college students, and the truth is we spent what little money we had on each other because we were building something together. But, we also weren't eating at 4 star restaurants every time we saw each other either. Sometimes a date was a trip to see one or the other at their school, and a Pancheros burrito and a Coke. And that was good enough for us. Sometimes we hit up a 3 star restaurant and lived it up on special occasions. The point is that it isn't the money, its the time, and the moments you spend together that makes that relationship.

You know what the best free thing in the world is available to all people in all societies, on all budgets?

Love.

Find love before anything else.

It might even give your life enough meaning that you don't need to seek personal value through money, clothing and trinkets for the rest of your vacuous fucking life.

There's also family and friends

This mentality that we have to be fucking to have love is extremely detrimental
... hell the fact that some of us have to go that route to feel anything close to love is even more detrimental

I mean fucking is a big part of it, but you can intimate with a lover in ways that you can't with family or friends.

I mean just think about walking around naked and the only other person in the house is your SO? You aren't fucking at the moment, but the level of comfort that you feel with that person says something about the nature of your relationship.

but that is the distinction between love of any other kind and being "intimate"
with someone is sexual relation. Therefore, one can hold off until they established...
as a matter of fact, having genuine love in one's life makes is MUCH easier to hold
off. That lack is why we see kids out here having kids at 14 and shit. Ain't no love
at home.

Who are you tell anyone else that there is an objective measure by which they can figure out which forms of companionship are right for them?

Unless that objective measure is purely economic, in which case why get married or form friendships? We should all just be engaged in business negotiations. We need what we need from other people when we need it, sometimes its for the best, sometimes it isn't, but none of our needs are exactly the same.

And all are more important than money.

Romantic love can come with or without fucking - they're separate things. You can fuck anyone without requiring love. But the unconditional love between romantic partners is one of the most liberating things a human can experience. Calling it fucking makes me wonder if you really appreciate what romantic love is?!

Family love should be given and received by default - that's a necessity. Unfortunately it's not so for many people, but that should be a baseline for human existence. Parents, children and siblings should always form a unit stronger than all the individuals.

But Romantic love (importantly the prospect of being able to *create* that good familial love through it) is one of the experiences that can send the human experience into orbit. It makes life better every single day, even if there's no food on the table. It can be achieved elsewhere, but good romantic love can reduce money, status and styling to mere trifles.

I said fucking because that's being discussed in the post, and when you think about it,
what's different about other forms of love and the love you experience with a partner?
Every difference centers around fucking them.

If love is so important and beautiful, then why is the love from your family and friends
not enough? Because you're not fucking them.

Case in point...

>But Romantic love (importantly the prospect of being able to
>*create* that good familial love through it) is one of the
>experiences that can send the human experience into orbit.

All that other stuff you said is just flowery stuff on top it. Intimacy, fucking, sexual relations...
you really mean the same thing.

You do realize that it's possible to denigrate and abuse familial love too right? Just because we're more aware of how people abuse sexual love that means that it's on a lesser tier than the other ones? It's less important in making a person feel fulfilled?

I kinda don't even know where to begin with this response...
1, because you're sticking with familial and ignoring that I also said friendship
2, because you're assuming I didn't mean healthy familial bonds
3, how did we get on abuse?

Trust me, I very familiar with abuse of familial bonds, but what does that have to
do with anything? We're not talking about abusing intimacy. We're talking about
the need for it ahead of establishment... at least I am.

framework. I think you're working with a faulty premise, which is why I'm breaking the discussion down to values. Basically, do you value familial or friendship bonds over romantic ones? You seem to, and I'm pushing against that because so far I haven't seen you provide any explanation for why one would be valued over the other.

>I kinda don't even know where to begin with this response...
>1, because you're sticking with familial and ignoring that I
>also said friendship

So add it back in, it doesn't really change the heart of what I'm saying about you valuing those types of love over another type of love. I just said familial because we're doing a lot of typing and I want to save time. If it's that important to you I'll say both.

>2, because you're assuming I didn't mean healthy familial
>bonds

No, I'm not assuming that. Good or bad examples aside, I don't understand why you value those as being paramount when compared to romantic love?

>Trust me, I very familiar with abuse of familial bonds, but
>what does that have to
>do with anything? We're not talking about abusing intimacy.
>We're talking about

You are, and to close I'll reiterate my point that I'm questioning why you seem to either value romantic love less than other forms of love.

I could easily say that you shouldn't be a friend unless you can afford it, based of a history with needy, demanding, or just outright trifling friends or on the positive side, friends who were in bad spots and genuinely needed my time, money, energy. To which most people would retort, well you can be a friend without spending money or giving people things. I'd say the same applies to romantic love, so I don't understand why people need to meet a financial threshold to engage in later but not the former?

I'm not saying I value one over the other. I'm saying love is love, and fucking is fucking.
People act like love is supernatural when there's fucking involved, but it's just love with fucking involved lol.

But anyway, on to your point (which I actually think has alotta merit)...

>I could easily say that you shouldn't be a friend unless you

I can't be mad at this point, but the major flaw with this point is that my saying that
it's a good idea to get your money before your relationship is based on a history
of "needy, demanding, or just outright trifling" women. It's just based on the reality
of dating.

I think I've stated elsewhere in this post that if one just so happens to find a
relationship free of any financial obligation, then that's an awesome thing, but I
wouldn't be *looking* for a relationship if I wasn't getting $. Of course people can
do what they want, but it's not practical to me. Reasons...
Earlier in this conversation, you (or maybe the other guy) was talking about how
there's more to an intimate relationship than other kinds of love. Well, to be frank
money is usually (MUCH more often than not) part of that... yall wanna go out,
wanna do something special for each other, yall have a child, you need gas to
get to her house, all kinds of stuff. Some of that overlaps with friendship, and some
of it doesn't... but you can guarantee that friends + relationship is more expensive
that just friends and a relationship is more expensive than friends.
And I know, folks wanna trip "YOU'RE REDUCING RELATIONSHIPS TO MONEY!",
nah I'm just factoring it in, because it's reality... we need to do more planning as a people.

Among other things it w/could still need to be:

- Monogamous/Exclusive - family and/or platonic love doesn't need to be. You can have as many brothers, sisters and friends as you like and love them all equally. You can even love your fellow Man on principle. You don't put any of them on the pedestal you put a romantic lover that you're dedicated to exclusively.

- A platform to *create* a family: through sex, adoption, surrogacy, fostering, whatever.

- A partnership of true transparency: Most people, however much they love their mother and father, do not share every detail of their life with them or even share every value. Romantic love can achieve this.

Sex is a factor in 99% of romantic relationships, sure... it's not the definition of it and it's rather sad to think it is.

Romantic, platonic and familial love are all different faces of similar, but not identical coins. Either way, my reason for the thread being depressing was the OP... love (whether through friendship, dating or family) is more important than money. Love exists. Money doesn't.

rather than to literally be about having enough money to have a relationship

relationships cost more than money
they cost your time
they cost your attention
they cost your emotions
they cost your ... you get the idea

if you can't really deal with all that "cost" being with someone, yeah... maybe you should sit this one out

(of course, this is me giving Hannah the benefit of the doubt. if this was literal, a rather softball "FOH" delivered to this post)

people can multi-task...some people are practical enough to know their limitations and still put forth the proper effort towards the areas they need to...

and even if they aren't...it's still a lid for every pot...i wouldn't advise it but single-income relationships work for some people *shrugs*

sometimes the right date/relationship can be that spark to get shit together to

and not everyone can be "together"

the world isn't built that way and there's nothing that is going to stop them from pursuing love, sex, intimacy

those things are on par with those other priorities even if we don't want to admit it...some of us are able to operate just fine without it but many can't

when i was broke and going nowhere...i wasn't able to maintain a relationship but i was able to date/smash while keeping my focus on getting my shit somewhat together...not doing that would not have sped up that process...probably would've slowed it down
