when i woke up this morning, this first day of spring semester classes, i was on academic probation.
early this morn i had an appointment wit my advisor to map out my schedule for this term. homie left me hangin for a hot minute, but i ain't trip cause that gave me time to get acquainted wit the new beautiful-skinneded sista workin the front desk. durin my meetin wit my advisor he let me know i'm finna be a pseudo-revolutionary super-senior on some Fudge from Higher Learning shit. i was slightly phased.
despite havin to wait til the first day of classes to register, i came out with a lovely likkle schedule. i got an interestin elective on celebrity & journalism, anna race/gender/class and film joint taught by "hiphop intellectual" todd boyd (i'm gonna have fun gettin on that nigga's nerves, even tho i probably should behave considering he's the first blak teacher i've had since high school), not to mention another beloved linguistics class.
as part of probation i had to visit an academic review counselor to finish my registration for the semester. this i don't mind much 'cause the head counselor is this refreshingly attractive tall drank of koolaid. i was sposed to continue on probation for the rest of the semester, but by the end of my meeting with my fly-colored probation officer i was free, and i didn't even have to offer her no sexual favors (tho i was ready and willing to do so). turns out when i mentioned me making up a class from a previous semester it was enough to boost my gpa up to where it needs to be, and she lifted all the restrictions for me right there (which usually takes two weeks). i'm kinda disappointed i won't be seein her again no time soon.
the rest of the day involved the frustrating shuffle fo'th-n-back cross campus to get clearances for classes and get collections holds temporary lifted so i can finish registering. the sistas who work in the registration office (sistas played an instrumental role in helpin me get thru this day) were there for me and ultimately kept me from serially assaulting random white folks.
the day was looking on the up, and i was reminded of the joys of spring semester by sighting the hottentot venutian goddesses of our track team on the field preparing for the upcoming season. godspeed, sistren, godspeed.
there was a pleasant suprise waiting for me at home as well. my copy of arrived today, niggas! it's only a month late, and the package is beat the fuk up, and the sound/visual quality is more bootleg than the bootleggest bootleg, but i got that shit!
somehow, someway, today was a good day.
