"Awkward concert experiences"

After talking to Atruhead and other folks who were at the Krush Groove concert in L.A. this past weekend, it reminded me of some of the awkward, "WTF?" worthy moments I've seen at concerts.

This probably isn't exact...but from what I heard about Krush Groove on Saturday, a concert that had Quik, Warren G, Mack 10, and plenty others....during Quik's set, he had a random dude on stage wrapped up in a wheelchair, maybe like a mummy or some shit...and throughout the set, he'd say "I'm gonna bring my dead homie back to life!" After some dramatic pause or introduction...the dude got out of the wheelchair and unwrapped, and.....it was a 2Pac impersonator. The crowd was like "uhh.........oh...." and dude performed a HORRIBLE rendition of "Hail Mary" which caused the crowd to boo. heavily Quik took this personal, and started going off on the crowd. However, he saved himself by bringing out Raphael Saadiq to perform "Let's get down."

Another one is when I was at a Teen Conference back in 2000. Rumors all day is that the "special surprise guest celebrity" was Coolio...and when the concert began, the rumors were correct! We were actually hype for the first 3-4 songs...and then, he said "I see y'all rockin with me! So, I got a new album comin out, and since I love y'all so much...I'm gonna perform the ENTIRE album!!" First song or two was ok, just sounded like a mid 90's sitcom theme song (Jamie Foxx, Keenan and Kel)...then, the shit just got bad. At one point, he had a song with a straight Garth Brooks style beat, and he started to sing, "I'm a gangsta cooowbooooy!!!!"....and, 80% of the crowd just walked out silently.

At some venue in NYC (Kennedy Center? I think) My homies were one of the openers, which was cool until the host cut them off to talk to the crowd about respecting the youngers artists (like the ones he just cut off). He talked for a long time, so my peoples eventually just left the stage, smh.

Curtis Blow comes up, and he's, uh... "hyper." He comes out and is like "I want to hit y'all with some of my new stuff." This dude then starts *SINGING*, and not just some contemporary shit, but like vintage 1986 R&B singing. Beats and everything. This dude was running aroung the stage sweating and shit, making that *singer struggle face*

He did about three or four songs, during which time that awkward "wtf?" hush had swept through the crowd. After wrapping up that singing, he starts to go and put the mic back, but I guess he saw the crowd's reaction and was like "Sike! I got more y'all!" and jumped into a kinda dope set of his classic hip hop material.

I wonder if he ever put out that singing album.

wtf

like

how the fuk did he expect that to go?

shyt like that happens when u and everybody around u stay weeded up

but to answer the post

most awkward concert experience was at this club back in 01 i think

around the time 'wait a minute' was poppin

anyway dude was drunk out his mind

he had a bottle of henny

and back around this time he was still brandys lil brother ray j

so the shyt just looked awkward as fuk

like he aint even sound right cursing

but yea

he 'performed' wait a minute 2 times in a row

and then did like 2 minutes of some rkellyish freestyle adlib singing

shyt was fukin horrible

Black college weekend at kings dominion Keith Murray had just got out of jail.

I can't even remember who he was with...he started performing and the crowd just went dead. He got mad and started screaming about not getting any love and how he was gonna win the crowd over...

So this fool like gets off the stage and like climbs through the crowd rapping...like the WHOLE crowd lol on chairs n stuff...I feel like his homeboy was like holding him up to keep him from falling lmao*

He was working sooo hard...the crowd just started giving him a weak ass round of applause of applause lol it was so sad....like as he would past a section they would give him a slow clap and stop as soon as he was gone

*I think I made that part up Lmao...but he was going through the crowd rappin the most beautifulist (so?) Thing in the word..I know that much

The crazy part about this is that I don't even think he was on the bill Lmao...like somebody brought him out smh

Lord. That was not a good look
Chick was a stripper i worked with with a crazy blk chick body.
We had a table and had to share it with some blk.chicks
White girl went to the bathroom and the chicks were talking about her
as if i wasnt there

Then she decided that she'd stand in front of stage and dance. Alone.
Doing that white chick "i can feel the music with my hands" dance.

Yo. Chicks was livid.

One security guard looked at me, shook.his head and said "nigga proud too"

In response to Reply # 0

dude in a huge hoodie just came up behind another dude and sucker punched him, then they started wrestling in the middle of the concert hall.

excerpt from my recap:

"When a fight broke out for completely mysterious reasons during “He Has Risen,” DZA was so focused he didn’t notice until the song was over and it was in its aftermath stages. His face looked hilariously perplexed, however, and his comment “Woah, Omaha, y’all gettin’ rowdy like that to the Kushed God?” brought on a healthy dose of laughter from the crowd. Similarly, Curren$y would joke that he thought we’d all be “on Warren Buffett tonight” but "apparently fuck that.""

Also, at that same show, people leaving when they realized Big K.R.I.T. had to miss the show for family matters, even though fucking METHOD Man was prepping to come out and do shit like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOgjCoCJcSU

Bone is performing one of my favorite songs of their's (thuggish ruggish bone), and all of the sudden I hear a cacophony of female voices ring out.

"You piece of shit"
"You asshole"
"You disgusting lil fucker"

Turns out corny black dude with the tight opaque mesh shirt on and the requisite white girlfriend had took his dick out and pissed in the middle of the floor. Now I don't go out all that often, but I've never seen anybody piss on the middle of the floor at the club. A corner, or against the wall yes, but never right on the floor hall in the middle of a large crowd of people.

Shit was beyond disgusting, and for the rest of the night prime concert viewing real estate was vacated because nobody wanted step in urine. Like there was a large empty space in the middle of the HOB because nobody wanted to be in that area. Dude and his girlfriend eventually got kicked out for fighting, but there was no repercussions for pissing on the floor.

The few people in the arena (me & my sisters on one side, one white girl in the center, more white girls on the other side) at the time were just not feelin them niggas. I still can't tell you what they look like or any songs they had. They did like, 6 songs, straight through, and left the stage like, "welp, bye...".

Same night, Dre only had on a black turtleneck and some jeans. That was the only awkward thing about the OutKast portion of the night.

Nothin like Inspectah spitting the first verse of "Triumph"
& some white girl grinding on her Insane Clown Posse boyfriend.
Homeboy got laid out 10 minutes into the show cuhz they kept bumpin into everyone
& got kicked out.
It was awkward to see that at a Wu Tang show of all places though

In response to Reply # 0

He started playing, then stopped the band going on about the sound on his mic… this leads to him throwing a mini tantrum:

Toots demanding that the audience "call him by his spiritual name 'Naya.'" This confuses audience terribly.

"What's my naaaame?" - Toots

"Toots!" - audience

"No it isn't you motherfuckers! What did I just tell you!" he cursed and made a big scene and threw the mic down and left the stage.

That was it.

Everybody with a WTF look on their face just booing.

Lakewood '97 on the Wu-Tang/Rage Against The Machine tour

He was just sitting on stage and cursing. Had a 40 in a brown paper bag.

What was REALLY awkward was we got there so early and were front row for Wu-Tang on the lawn. So we kept them seats and figured we'd check out Rage. Boy, I did not know what was coming, Rage came on and the place exploded and we were right in the thick of the mosh pit. We dipped the fuck out and watched the whole show from the top of the lawn.

And before Ralph got him to exit the stage, he told the audience "lookout for my cd droppin some...in the meantime I gotta finish up this New Edition bullshit."

The crowd didn't know how to react. (My brother swear he saw him do some blow behind the curtains while BBD was on stage)

In response to Reply # 0

This has to be maybe 2006 or 7. Meshelle performed at a club in Underground ATL. My wife and I doubled with another couple who weren't hip to her music. We made a night of it...babysitters, nice dinner...etc. I was selling it on how great she was and how I had seen her in concert maybe 10-15 times.

Show starts and Meshelle is working out some REAL experimental shit. She's playing some alt rock stuff and had a stripper onstage. 2 or 3 unrecognizable songs in and the ATL bougie/neo-soul crowd was not entertained. Then the sound kept fucking up. I don't know what happened up front, but Meshelle start throwing water from an Evian bottle on the crowd. She left the stage, came back and said some stuff about hating these type of crowds and her money not being right. Then she launched into a real aggressive punk rock version of one of her songs and bounced. The crowd stuck around for a while with a collective WTF, just knowing she would come back...not.

I apologized to the other couple all the way home. To this day my wife says she wouldn't go see Meshelle if she played our backyard.

I had almost the same experience around that time in chicago.

She was touring for 'The World Made Me...' album, or so I thought. When she first got onstage she basically told us that if we were there to hear 'Outside Your Door', or any love songs like that, then you can go back and sit at the bar and tip the bartenders...

Now I know from experience that she really doesnt like to go deep into her past catalogue and likes to focus on current shit, but this time was different. She started playing these angry songs, a lot of them werent even on the new album. She was on some fuck love, the world sucks type shit.

I stayed cuz thats my girl.

Luckily that was the only time that happened at a Meshell concert and Im glad it didnt sour me on going to her concerts.

... I think it was 'Worst Concert Experiences" or something like that, I went more in depth with some of my stories.

Ozzfest 2002 was my first concert experience. I went over to the second stage to see Hatebreed. Il Nino was on stage performing a tribute to Dave Williams (Drowning Pool's lead vocalist) who had just passed away. This drunk neo-Nazi motherfucker with Swaztika patches all over him comes up to me asking me why I was I there or if i liked being there, some stupid shit like that and I was basically like "Get the fuck out my face.." and walked towards the crowd to watch Il Nino close their set.

I saw Nas at the House of Blues in San Diego in 2008. I was front row and hella excited. Jay Electronica and Talib Kweli opened for him. There was a moment when Nas was performing, it was a track off of Illmatic he kind of paused very briefly and made a remark about people not rhyming along to his shit or not knowing the lyrics. And me, standing there front row felt hella embarrassed because I didn't have every lyric to Illmatic memorized. Living on the West Coast, I came around to East Coast rappers a little later. And had only started getting into Illmatic several years before that concert. I didn't listen to the album religiously, so I didn't have every lyric memorized. I always feared that Nas was directing that comment to me because I was front row and wasn't rhyming to some of the Illmatic songs, just nodding and really happy to be there. Just fyi- I had been a Nas fan for years before that concert; I just didn't have Illmatic memorized.

When I went to see D'Angelo on the 4th of July last year out here in LA. I was standing waiting for D to start the show and a group of white hipsters holding cans of PBR came over, invaded my standing space and pretty much pushed me off to the right (I was standing center of the stage). My first thought was, 'what the hell are THEY doing here?' My second thought was 'Seriously, they're just going to indulge in the stereotype with the PBR' I was just happy to see D, and I was standing only 4 rows of people back from the stage. I still had a great time.

And of course there was the FlyLo concert in Hollywood in which drunk people slammed themselves violently into me and kept trying to cut in front of me, and somebody's boyfriend acting like he was going to fight me, I already explained that one in more detail in another thread.

But no matter how much crazy shit I've had to put up with at concerts, I still love having the opportunity to experience music live and up-close. It's worth it for me.

At least Teena was supposed to have been there, but she wasn't. Rick was there, in all his glory, with a 2-story sized rendition of a joint that puffed smoke out of the top lol. Anyway, the show was going great, the band was tight, Rick was at the top of his game at this time so he was stellar... until someone down front shouted "I wanna see Teena Marie!!" Rick laid him out!!

The line the stuck out in my 12 year old ears was "well take yo ass to Jacksonville muthafucka, cuz she ain't here!" lol I miss the 80's sometimes.

At my college homecoming

Yes Im old

Anyway, Christopher Williams comes out in a shiny, gold lamé vest with nothing on underneath, 'cept a pot belly, supertight matching pants and cornrows.

CORNROWS, NIGGA????

He was at least 20-25lbs overweight, definitely not svelte enough to be rocking that tight ass shiny shit he had on.

He starts singing and none of the ladies are feeling him or his look, so he's not getting any love at the front of the stage.

He tries to get the audience into the show, but there was only a few heads bobbing in the audience. It was so funny and sad. LOL At one point he spots this girl in the front row, kneels down and reaches his hand out to her so he can serenade her. She folds her arms up and gives him the ultimate 'nigga please' look....totally dissing him. The look she gave him reminded me of Gina, that sassy chick from 'Different World'.

The whole audience started cracking up and folks started leaving.

I felt so bad for him.

then there was the time Lil Kim had the host of a concert ask us in the crowd yo chant her name or she wouldn't come out, and we promptly said "FUCK LIL KIM, BRING OUT UNCLE LUKE!!" (great homecoming concert with Jay Z, Akinelye(sp), Luke, and Junior Mafia)

Nelly Furtado. The security guard said cameras weren't allowed. I dumped it to my friend. Always trip on that cuz everyone has video cameras on their phones now.

The other funny things I saw:
-some guy smacked n palmed her ass when she jumped down and ran threw te crowd
-saw 2 seperate chick fights n stopped the girl I brought from being #3. 1 month later she was on Jay Leno saying lotta girls be fighting at her shows. His was during her first album

my memory has been jogged
pretty funny actually

this was about 07/08 when Ikey Owens of The Mars Volta did that album with 2Mex, I believe they were called Look Daggers; pretty good album. anyhow they were performing at the Continental Room in Downtown Fullerton. Everything was going good and I was taking pictures, but it was quite dim, so I started popping the flash and I was front row. 2Mex didnt seem to mind, but Ikey did LOL. After about 30 seconds of me taking pictures, he lunged from the stage at my camera to tell me to turn off the flash ( good timing too! as I had taken the picture of Ikey coming at me because it came out of nowhere! he had this crazy look on his face, I might have to get my HD reclaimed if you guys wanna see the pic, but I am sure its floating around the internet as well )

funny thing was, I ran into him 2 yrs ago at a show in Riverside and he had no recollection about it ( nice guy as well )

Bushwick Bill is in the house... random as fuck. He gets invited onstage to rhyme and goes into a 10 minute fuckshitlickmydickyoupussymurdereatyokidsfreestyle...

The emcees fade to black, band gets up leaves, only the drummer is playing and he keeps on rhyming... but not really rhyming, more like jail nigga poetry slam.

Seeing this in person was kind of fucked up. Dudes eye just hanging while he hurled insults...

Chaka Khan opening for Prince... she jeot forgetting the words so she just screamed into the mic... I mean, its Chaka Khan so it still sounded dope but out of 5 to 7 songs I think she actually sang one song worth of lyrics.

Run Dmc.. this one was kind of sad. DMCs voice was gone so instead of hearing this hard versus it was a bunch of squealing and sqeaking.

Jeru in Richmond... dude had his shirt of, gut out and a Jamaican flag tied around his neck like a cape... he killed it.

tupac cuz we were bored. Neither of us really cared for him, but it was a club concert so we figured its a win win. This was around the time of him shooting the cops.

Anyway, he's doing songs from the dear momma album, but nobody had heard them since the album wasn't out yet. he stops between each song, basically yelling at the sound guy, complaining.

The crowd is getting restless. each time he stops, the crowd is now saying that his show is wack, yadda yadda. of course he yells back at the audience sayin "see...this is why I'm always on the news, cuz of niggas like this". mind you, its a small club so he can see who the shit talkers are.

One more song, one more break, one last comment from the crowd. Tupac jumps his fool ass off the stage and starts fighting. show's overs! me and my buddy exit.

In 2007, I made the mistake of seeing a PM Dawn reunion show at the Knitting Factory.

First of all, there were only about 15-20 people in the crowd. i was embarrassed for PM Dawn and ourselves.

Even worse,Prince Be (who was still a big man) started complaining about his back hurting as soon as he hit the stage.

Two songs into his set, he sitting down in a big chair on stage.

After a couple of more songs, he is lying on his back singing and rapping.

Oh yeah, and he sounded horrible too.

along with the pharcyde(when it was only like 2 niggas) and the arsonists

Beatnuts were the headliner and were killing it. So of course they had to do their classic "Watch Out" and they brought out Gregg Nice. They did that song but Greg stayed out with them and was adlibbing w/ them. At many points through the show however the mics(his in articular) weren't loud enough for his liking and he kept saying lil shit during the set. At one point Gregg Nice(the nigga who WASNT headlining) cuts the music and literally goes on a 3 minute rant on the soundman on some:

YO THIS IS SOME BULLSHIT! SOUND BEEN FUCKED UP ALL NIGHT NIGGA I BET WHEN DEM WHITE BOYS BE UP HERE ON SOME TECHNO SHIT THEY MICS DONT BE FUCKED UP

soundman had enough

so this nigga put some techno music on LOUD AS SHIT and threw duces.

Greg Nice: *flies off the stage sprints towards the sound booth area*

Psycho les was trying to say something but his mic was muted

crowd was silent at first but after like 45 sec of *boomp boomp boomp (c)techno rhythm

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHH

another random one was seeing redman at Center Stage he broke out an earth wind and fire cover of Cant Hide Love but changed all the words into shit like:

opening line:
you-told-me-you-was-gon-na-lick my bawlz

the crowd was like a cross between the casts of love jones and slam
i guess its about the same
all kinds of self respecting women were walking off

2 separate aspects

We got there early so we had a good spot for the arsonists (pharcyde wasnt at this date). When the beatnuts came on there was a massive rush to the stage. There are some mean looking latinos behind us amd I could feel them trying to push past me but there was literally nowhere to go. A few minutes later one of them starts yelling at the back of my head about stabbing me and shit. I basically pretended not to notice and they moved on. I was scared for my safety as id ever been for a few minutes.

At the end of the show when the beatnuts brough a bunch of chicks on stage, one in particular took her top off and apparently told Les that she wanted him to lick the box. He laughed in her face and told her to get off the stage. Of course my friend I was there with was going to school with her at the time...high school lol. He said he asked her about it Monday and she freaked out.

Dont want to say who he is. But this dude was über nice and uber talented. He was young like me, been in a few big hollywood movies, and was trying to launch his singing career. So somehow me and my friends were hired as his camera crew to follow him to his small town while puts on this massive concert....

......that "stadium" was only 20-25% full. Like really embarrassing.

It sucked because buddy was über talented and über nice, I'm surprised he ain't blow up already on the singing side. And come to find out he was extremely upset about it. I felt he kinda overhyped the event and shoulda done his homecoming in a small theater or wait till he had more heat....not my call though....So naturally me and my crew were kind of unsure how much of "this to document". Like on one end we were told to capture everything but you could sense the uneasiness once they saw it wasn't what they "envisioned"

So it was a long and quiet van ride home.they requested we delete the footage.

white boy call himself taking a seat further down the aisle. Black dude who's seat it was must have been at the other stages or grabbing a brew or something cuz he came back like 40 minutes later. Me and my homeboy really thought it was a vacant seat til Black dude knocked the white boy down with one punch. I looked up and all you saw was the white boy on the ground holding his hands up like 'no please don't' LOL

funny thing is, white boy was trying to pop shit to the black dude and black dude was chilling like 'man, just get out of my seat.' he kept talking and got his ass knocked over

shortly after that this random white dude walked up to me, looked at my shoes and said 'Aren't those the Barkley's????'

LOL, he was loud and WRONG as fuck.

He and his drunk buddy (kicked out pre-photo) dumped 3 full beers on the people in front of them, 2 on this girl's white pants and in her purse. We spent half the show watching them, making sure we didn't get pulled into any rumble they got themselves in. The dude with the girl said as much as "Ay man, WTF?!", only the first time they got dumped on.

Underground rap duo from Vancouver or thereabouts. Opened for Ghostface. I was never a big fan of theirs but they actually put on a good show, very high energy. Minnesota loved them.

Halfway through a song they each did a running stage-dive, mics in hand, and proceeded to trade lines as they surfed the crowd. Everyone ate it up. They are both no bigger than 5'6, 130 lbs. so the crowd had no problem passing them out and then back to the stage.

So as they went into their next song, this very large and clumsy man on the balcony level decided to climb over the railing and onto the speakers, lower himself onto the stage, and start running and jumping around behind them like he was their hypeman. The guys in the group were clearly both confused (as was the crowd) and were hesitant to engage him, but they played along and kept the show going.

Then the guy made his way to the back of the stage and began a slow forward sprint. You could feel the breath go out of the room. He leapt towards the crowd face first, and as if on cue, the first few rows parted like the Red Sea. Dude just disappeared.

Everyone paused for a moment, and then turned their attention back to the stage. I still have no idea what happened to the guy.

I think that was the same show where Ghostface went into a five minute rant addressed to the women in the audience about all the ways in which they weren't living properly, which included a reproach of their choices in the breakfast cereals they fed their children--"do you know how much sugar is in that shit?!"

I'm sure I've told this story before but it fits the criteria.

There was a hand full of people that came out for this show. I'm there with my wife and she knows I'm a BIG Camp Lo fan. The show is going well for the small crowd that showed up. I'm going word for word with Sonnie Cheeba. They do Cooley High Remix and I lose it. At this point I'm standing behind my wife and Cheeba is kinda staring in my direction. I'm happy because I love these guys but then it went a little too far. He seemed to be staring at me with a look that went beyond "you're a good fan". My wife then turns around and says "I thought he was looking at me but he's looking at you!" I couldn't make eye contact with dude for the rest of the show.

Ever since then whenever Camp Lo comes on my wife gives me a look a and a smirk.

In response to Reply # 0

I went with my aunt, sister and my wife's friend. My wife was pregnant and sick so she didn't go.

Her friend is one of those needy types. Some how, some way she is going to be the focal point of the proceedings. She is going to make a scene. Who knows how, but its gonna happen.

Now, we are in the very front of the venue...directly in front of the stage... The Roots are putting on a great show as usual.

She starts complaining about the weed smoke fucking with her..she's acting all weird and shit. i'm trying my best to ignore her ass. About 5 minutes later she starts walking back toward the lobby of the joint like she has to get outta there. About halfway through the crowd she hits the ground. I'm not sure if she actually passed out or if this was one of her grand stands (yes, she was that bad)...she came back after like 20 minutes trying to look for her glasses under people and shit.

We stayed after everyone left to look for them..didn't find them.

The entire way back we all were just looking at her like... "word?"

In response to Reply # 0

He was performing before the release of his follow-up album after the Tony Rich Project. Dude came on stage in a leather onesie with a hood, looking like a cast-off member of The Revolution. Tramps is a small spot so when he came out you could literally hear the gasps from the crowd. A chick standing in from of me said out loud "What the **** is he wearing?!" Dude starting performing but the crowd wasn't into it at all. Every song, he looked and sounded more and more depressed. I didn't even stay to hear " Nobody Knows"

Others -

Black Rob - at Greek Fest NY - Dude barely finished any of his songs. He proceeded to threaten the sound man his entire set. Naughty by Nature showed up randomly and rocked the crowd after him with the same sound set up.

Sticky Fingaz from Onyx getting his a**& whupped at Jokers after jumping in the crowd. He jumped thinking he was going to crowd surf. Dudes caught him, body slammed him into the ground and beat him up. Took his jewelry too. He was shook after that. Took all of the bouncers to get him back to the stage.

Smokin Grooves '02, Jones Beach- My first live experience with bat***t crazy Lauryn Hill. I had really good seats and when folks would stand up to applaud that acoustic crap she was playing, the other half of the crowd would boo. She warbled through her whole set, including crying at random points. She could only play one chord of the guitar and they would replace her guitar after every song. She was having a nervous breakdown on stage. It was tragic

Mann...yeah I know she has had a lot of these type shows. Rock The Bells 2011, crowd waited a damn hour for her to start, and then people started leaving after 15 minutes because she was bad.

Dudes that jumped him were probably more gully than the security. They escorted him back up to the stage and the show continued for one more song and that was it. Sticky figured that folks would respect him because he was home. The exact opposite took place.

Went to the Spit Kicker Tour in VA (they billed it as if it was DC) but either way...

Nice lineup: Cee-Lo, The Roots , Outkast but Lauryn was somewhere in the middle. This was around 2003-04 when she start going off the rails. So the lghts go down and the introduce her...She comes out with a guitar and just had a drummer with her. Crowd is going CRAZY!!!!! She grabs the mic

Lauryn: "Can ya'll hear me??"
Crowd: YESSSSSSSS...!!! We LOVE YOU LAURNY
Lauryn: Nah nah...can ya'll hear me!?!? Is this mic working??
Crowd: *half blank stares half still cheering*
Lauryn: *nods at drummer* and they start playing some song.

She does about 4-5 songs (3 I never heard before) and gives the most dry..."Thank you DC love you" and walks off!

It was awkward as hell!!!

The crowd started swaying and people started falling. Then they sprayed mace inside the place, then niggas lost their rabid minds when they cancelled the show. People on stage fucking up the equipment, niggas fighting, shit was crazy!

So I have at an Atmosphere/Abstract Rude show back in 2008, when everyone at the show run afoul of this extremely drunk, extremely overweight asshole. He was like 5'7" and weighed 350 if he was a pound. He was drunk as fuck, and during Abstract Rude's set, he tried pushing his way through the crowd, started feeling on girls assess, and got into the face of anyone who told him to knock it off. I mean, seriously, who gets drunk and brolic at an Atmosphere show, much less during Abstract Rude's set at an Atmosphere show?

I saw dude disappear for like five minutes, then he comes back into view after getting into a shoving match with someone. A big circle in the crowd opened up, with him at the center. He just stood there for a second, threw arms in the air, and challenged anyone around to bring it on. So someone a few inches shorter and about 200 lbs lighter walked up and popped him RIGHT in his face, and dude fell over like a sack of fucking bricks. Motherfucka literally looked like a beached whale lying there on the floor. A couple of people even stood over him for like a second, and I'm pretty sure they were yelling "YOU GOT KNOCKED THE FUCK OUT!!!"

While he was laying there, I got sort of concerned he might be, ya know, dead. Or he swallowed his tongue or something. So I went to get security, which was already on it's way because some other girl had complained about him grabbing her ass. It took or four or five diesel security dudes to pull him off the ground. And after he gets pulled to his feet, he raises both hands in the air like some psuedo-victory pose and tries to go back to watching the concert. The girl he was with and security escorted him out instead.

now, I've seen her twice in the past couple of years so knew what to expect, but you could tell that most people there (at least where I was sitting) thought they were getting a free-Miseducation style L.Boogie.

naawwwwwwwwwwwwww. when she sings, she sounds like an average reggae artist doing lauryn hill covers, & when she raps she sounds like an average spoken word artist trying to rap lauryn hill songs.

her voice isn't shot per se, but she's definitely nowhere near the level she was in the late 90s. so, she's changed her arrangements to fit that (fair enough).

except she's doing every damn song in double time w/a basic ass riddim behind it. and when she raps? pretty much a bad double time flow throughout.

first song; folks were rocking with her.
2nd song: folks started getting a lil uneasy
3rd song: folks started filing out while others sat down
by the end of the set (which actually got stronger the last 3 or so songs) my whole section had left

in L.A...after people waited a damn hour for her to come out.

Her DJ told me she can be a complete asshole (or bitch) to them during practice and even on stage, when you can't hear.

except she was 3 hrs late...
in a butta leather and pounds of makeup in 90 degree heat...
did songs in double time like she was trying to get out of there as fast as possible...
singing off and rapping off
people left mid set.

2003 Philly.

Me and Lenee (Marmari back then. Who knows what her OKP name is now) go to see Vivian Green. Her CD had just come out and she was on fire in Philly. Couple songs in this chic with no hair and some big tall nigga come and stand DIRECTLY in front of me. It's whatever. Y'all coulda stood somewhere but I ain't mad. Then they proceed to kiss and giggle and tickle all on each other like 2 inches in front of me. So I tell Lenee...yo this chic look like India Arie. Vivian is fine as all get out and she killing it so I'm trying to stay focused but india and her dude are now bumping into me with their tickling session. And people around the venue are starting to look in our direction. I'm like dammit this IS India Arie...what the eff is wrong with her? Long story short the giggling and bumping all into me lasted for another 25 to 30 minutes before her and the nigga left...

I just found her to be extremely annoying from that day forth.

Not as good as all y'all stories but that's the best I got...lol

In response to Reply # 0

De La Soul...early 90's...Charlotte

They played at a small venue, me and my homeboy went.

They did Buddy to close it out, and let everybody come up on the stage. My homeboy runs up on the stage and starts taking his clothes off...male stripper like. Mase gives him a look like he was gonna jump over the tables and beat his ass.

Prince Jam of the Year tour, Greensboro

Prince lets a bunch of people come up on stage and dance, like he does. People are starting to leave the stage in an orderly fashion, and he starts playing "777-9311". This one guy hadnt made it off stage yet, and tunrs and looks at Prince like "I've been waiting fr this song all night!" Prince nods at the dude, and is giving him a look like "take the mic homie!" The dude grabs the mic and starts singing "baby...whats your phone number" and the whole coliseum went nuts. Prince walks over to him, still playing guitar, and before the dude can get the next verse out, he looks at prince and loses it.."oh my God...I just...I just love you soo much". Prince...not missing a note..turns and gives the nod to security, and dude is escorted off the stage.

MeShelle...round 07ish..Charlotte

Same deal...she came out, basicalyy told us not to expect any classics...but played with the lights off. Threw water on the crowd.
The weird part? She was opening for W. Ellington somebodyoranother. So, she played for like...30-40 minutes, and this dude that nooobody knew...closed the show..people RAN out of that show.

Outkast..Smoking Grooves...

They basically played to a dead crowd, and as hard as 3000 kept trying, Big Boi basically did the rest of the show leaning against the monitors..

Monica...Music Midtown..

It rained that morning, and I hadnt taken my allergy medicine (this was when MM was in the spring time), and my eyes were KILLING ME! Red, itchy, runny..you name it. She only did two songs (cause she didnt have her music, but had a full band..???). I was up close, cuase I wanted to see MeShelle (yeah, she bailed on that show too), but when Monica started singing "Why I Love You So Much", she looked over in my direction and thought I was crying. So she proceeded to sing the song at me, and say little stuff after the song about music music moving people to tears and what not.

I remember in 2002 I was watching the strokes and the singer asked the crowd if they want to hear "Last Night"

The crowd of course goes wild and he says something to the effect of "Too bad. I hate that fucking song and if any of you like it I hate you too." But they started playing it anyways. At least the opening drums and about 3 seconds of the guitar riff, after which the singer stopped the song and just said that song sucks. Pretty sure they played every song off that album except that one.
