Background:

There's a coworker I took a liking to at the first introduction. She turned me down bluntly. I respect and prefer to be shot down vs wasting my time riding the fence. I rather be thrown into the category of niggas who have shot and lost.

Anyway, about a month passes and we've been involved in a few conversations. I start to notice her going out her way to compliment me. I write it off ass me reading too much in to it.

Maybe a week later she calls me up ( my entire team has each other's numbers) about work related things but then I see her start to reach...

(side note: Fellas things are much easier when you get chose rather than hunting. learn the art)

She starts to reach by engaging in conversation about my outside of work personal ,life and more. Conversation lasted maybe 30 mins on the phone and continued throughout the day on text message.

By the end of the work day she stops over at the crib for a few minutes prior to me hitting the club.

Now to be honest, I originally shot at her on some let me put your ass in the air shit. But after the phone/text convo I saw there was more there.

A month pass and we've been kicking it for a few hours pretty much everyday after work. We get into a conversation and she asks what do I want from her. I tell her that I'm looking long term with her. She hits me with, "But you know I'm married?!" And I think fellas can feel me on this, I don't look for wedding rings. I only notice it if the ring is big ass shit. But yes, I should have noticed.

So we cool out for a week. Even though we been kicking it for a month strong, I'm wrapped up in this girl. We start kicking it again. That's mistake #1



3 months pass and we've been kicking on our off days and after work. Some night she stays over. Most of the time she doesn't. Obiviously I ask abour the husband. She tells me they married because she was pregnangt. They married right out of high school. He's had gf on the side(not side bitches)and she's had a few side niggas. The husband never concerened himself with her side activities but they remain together for the kids. But things have been bad for a while.

I'm buying it because of who she is. She's alot of things, but a liar isn't one of em.

Mistake #2. She calls me up close to midnight and asks me to come over and change her locks because she kicked the husband out. So I run to Wal Mart, buy the locks, head over.

On my way I'm telling myself, "B, just change the locks and leave. Don't stay over. You know how bad shit can turn".

So what does my dumbass do. I change the locks and spend the night. Husband comes over the next morning to pick up the kids. I wake up for a few seconds when she goes to the answer the door. But I go right back to sleep. That's mistake #2.5

Next thing homeboy busts through the bedroom door and lays hands on me while I'm in bed. She intervenes enough that I can stand up. As soon as my second foot hits the floor he hits me on the chin with another one. She raises a hammer and he grabs it.

This whole time I haven't swung. I mean come on. I'm in his crib, in his bed, with his kids there. I'm wrong.Also his blows aren't hurting me at all. Homeboy is an inch shorter than me (I'm 6'2") and more built. But he's not a fighter. He doesn't know how to throw a punch. And if you look at me you would figure me for a dude that will put hands on another man either. But once he gets that hammer, I know shit just got real. Luckily he puts the hammer down. They go at it and shortly after cops appear.

Cops don't ask me if I like to press charges which I can understand. They told me to roll out. On the way out, the husband's cousin and wife are outdoors. The cousin works for HPD also. The wife I knew from my job when I first started working for the company. We were brought in together but she left shortly after. This is important later on.

after the fight we took a hiatus from one another. I kept my distance for a bunch of reasons which one of them are I needed to let their marriage either die or survive without me being a factor. Within 3 months she starts the legal separation process. Over the course of the next 6-9 months we become closer and closer and their marriage is coming to a close.

Here comes the ignorant shit:

we had an argument the night before about something. She comes over the next day and we decide to hop in my ride and hit this restaurant that's 5 mins from my crib.

Side note: in my car I have this rainbow color Hawaiian leis that my daughter made hanging from my rear view mirror.

We're sitting in the restaurant towards the back facing the parking lot. We've finished our meal and I'm about to call for the check.

Phone rings:

Husband: Where she at?

Me: who this?

Husband: where's my wife? put her on the phone

I hand the phone to her and they exchange words for all of 30 seconds.

He got my number from the call history because she called me from the crib one time before she kicked him out.

A few mins pass and she says, "why is that my husband running in here?!"

Apparently, the cousin's wife told him after the fight at the crib that she knew me. The husband call the cousin to pull my address. homeboy went to my crib and saw her car and not mines, asked a neighbor and the neighbor said she rode off with me. He remembered her saying to him previously how she like the restaurant. And he spotted my car from the leis that my daughter made for me. He later told me all of this.

So she says she's going to me him and walks away. I'm still waiting on the waitress to ask for the check. I get a call from my a friend. Next thing I know husband is behind me and says "where she at"

I turn around and see him, stand up, hang up my phone and say I'm going to take you to her. I realize my is still on the table. I turn around and reach for it on one foot (mistake #3 )and as soon as I turn me head back around he 2 pieced my ass. I drop to the floor not from the punches but because I was off balance prior to his first blow.

Im bleeding but that's nothing because if I get hit between the eyes, I always bleed. I immediately hop out. He's heading walking out the place.

I knew from when I first arrived at the place there was a cop and knew the cop was still there because he parked in front my ride.

But at this point, I don't give a fuck.I'm following him out. soon as I hit the front door, the cops intervenes. homegirl reappears. Sees the blood on my face. Starts talking shit to the husband. Cop asks me if I would like to press charges.

My wheels are turning. All the New Orleans that I though Houston took out of me reappears. I tell the cop no. In my head I'm thinking I want to be able to get to him.

Cop holds us back a few while he drives off. I get in the ride. And before I leave the lot one of my New orleans homeboys call up.

I'm venting telling him wtf just happened. My new orleans homeboy waits till im done and calmy says, "B I'm in cali right now. But you know how I get down. If you want this nigga to be touched then let me know. It only takes one call"

Everything is going through my head. For instance: I know the husband is a loose cannon. I grew up around niggas that don't let their emotions control their net move. And if the husband didn't let his emotions control his vision, he would've saw that there was a cop.

Also this out of control nigga brought his ass to my doorstep. I knew I didn't want this shit around my daughter who will be with me next week.

It took everything in me to come up off that ignorant shit and decline my homeboys offer. I declined. I dropped off ol girl.

Sat in my ride and call the husband.

Me: Meet me in my parking lot

Husband: Man I didn't mean to hit you. I just lost control.

Me: I don't care about any of that. You know where I live. Meet me in my parking lot and we can square up and let the chips fall where they fall.

Husband: I apologize man. I didn't mean to. I just want you to stop chasing after my wife.

Me: I'm not chasing your wife. I left her alone. She calls me. I love her. And if she calls I will always answer. But none of that matters. You show up to my crib acting a fool. Let's have at it. Meet me

Husband: Man I don't want to fight you.

Me: If you ever show up at my crib try to make a run at me again be prepared to throw down because all we have between us is a hospital bed and a medical bill.

Is all this worth it? I dont know. What I do know is before I met this woman I had serious doubts about being able to put up with someone longterm and having them put up with me. I've been in love before. But I awlays knew that shit had an expiration date. With her even if we don't make it, I feel better about the prospects.

Ultimately, we I think we wont be each others last. I believe we are that couple Erykah badu song of in Next Lifetime.

But yea, for the first time in years that New Orleans in me emerged
