U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona was shot outside a grocery store in Tucson while holding a public event, an eyewitness reported Saturday.

Giffords, who was re-elected to her third term in November, was hosting her first "Congress on Your Corner event at the Safeway in northwest Tucson when a gunman ran up and started shooting. At least five other people, including members of her staff, were hurt, according to Peter Michaels, news director of Arizona Public Media.

Giffords was transported to University Medical Center in Tucson. Her condition was not immediately known.

Michaels said Giffords was talking to a couple when the man ran up, firing indiscriminately, and then ran off. He was tackled by a bystander and presumably taken into custody. Copyright 2011 National Public Radio. To see more, visit http://www.npr.org/.

LOL, in fact, at the time that Oliver Stone's movie JFK came out, one of my law professors, who had been on the Warren Commission, was infuriated by all the new buzz around the idea that perhaps it wasn't a lone gunman and gave a talk for anyone in the law school who wanted to attend, saying that he would debunk anything in the movie + take questions. He had his talking points and I listened to all of them, and I noticed he hadn't addressed that issue. So when he took questions, that was the question I asked: How did Oswald get a security clearance when he got back from Russia, after all he had done?

He didn't have an answer. He *said* he didn't know anything about it. I was like, dude, come on. That didn't have the ring of authority.

It's not going to change anyones mind in Arizona if it;'s a tea-partier/militia -man/border-fence/homphobe-in-military/gun-nut/etc. They 'll rationalize their way out of it.

Now - if it's a illegal alien that did it - or a black man - it will dramatically shift the south and midwest to even crazier positions.

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and six others died after a gunman opened fire at a public event on Saturday, the Pima County, Ariz., sheriff's office confirms.
The 40-year-old Democrat, who was re-elected to her third term in November, was hosting a "Congress on Your Corner" event at a Safeway in northwest Tucson when a gunman ran up and started shooting, according to Peter Michaels, news director of Arizona Public Media.
At least three other people, including members of her staff, were injured. Giffords was transported to University Medical Center in Tucson. Her condition was not immediately known.
Giffords was talking to a couple when the suspect ran up and fired indiscriminately from about four feet away, Michaels said.
The suspect ran off and was tackled by a bystander. He was taken into custody. Witnesses described him as in his late teens or early 20s.
Giffords was first elected to represent Arizona's 8th District in 2006. The "Congress on Your Corner" events allow constituents to present their concerns directly to her.

any time liberals do anything conservatives don't like they are vilified as unpatriotic and unamerican, yet conservatives spew some of the most hateful rhetoric and are allowed to do so under the guise of family values(ie xenophobia) and patriotism(ie it's ok to hate people from other countries)
