"A surefire plan to increase The Roots popularity/sales"

Unlike the rest of you goldbrickers who do nothing but waste precious bandwith and take take take from our favorite live hip hop band
(<---)THIS guy is actually trying to come up with some ideas to help them improve their marketabilty and bank accounts.

After countless hours of (black) Thought I have come up with the 7 words that will get them over the hump: "The Roots super Groovey Cartoon Mystery Hour"

It would be the most awesome animated show since Josie and The Pussy Cats! Every week the band's tour bus would break down in some small town on the way to a gig. Then on some Murder she wrote/Scooby doo script a murder or robbery or something would happen and it would be up to our boys to solve the case and still make it to the show on time.

The scripts/characters pretty much write themselves.

Quest would be that resourceful ass dude who can pull like a chemistry set/canoe/snow shovel out of his afro whenever needed

Hub wouldn't have many lines he would just stay in the background looking cool, although his signature phrase would be "Guys, I gotta BAAAAAAAAD feeling about this"

Scratch would be some type of robot and for no apparent reason Kamal would be transformed into a talking dog.

Somebody get Cartoon Netowrk on line one...

Station wise... what would be the best bet?

Music Stations like MTV?

Animated series ala Adult Swim? (This could be interesting if paired with Boondocks episodes)

an MTV show would work, but, it wouldn't do anything for record sales ala Xzibit.

throw this show in a late night line up, and give them freedom on content. AND animation has to be sick in order to work.

Podcast episodes on iTunes...

i think ?uest got to be driving the bus, though. so you can have a cosby'd out picture of him an his afro sticking out the driver's windw an erybody else's arms/legs out the other windows and the van is bouncing.

the best thing about this show is we could bite from all the classic cartoons, but it's not really biting, its an HOMAGE. so hub can give ninjas chew sticks like scooby snacks when they need to man up or chill the fk out.

it could be ghosts of artists who got jerked haunting venues an shit. coming out to do remixes and whatnot. like they could hit up a spot and find out that sam cooke is haunting them. and they are searching for a big payday, but every time the promoter manages to jerk them by deducting damages to the building, food, weed, from the proceeds (you know how ghostbusters stayed fucking up them buildings, righ?)

"The Roots super
>Groovey Cartoon Mystery Hour"

word. we'd have to make ?uest's voice a lil' deeper than it is in real life. like bearry from Angry Beavers. (that's barry white, right? or a dude impersonating barry white?)

thought could battle a ninja in order to get the van out the shop on one episode.

>It would be the most awesome animated show since Josie and The
>Pussy Cats! Every week the band's tour bus would break down in

>still make it to the show on time.
>
>The scripts/characters pretty much write themselves.
>
>Quest would be that resourceful ass dude who can pull like a
>chemistry set/canoe/snow shovel out of his afro whenever
>needed
>
>Hub wouldn't have many lines he would just stay in the

>be "Guys, I gotta BAAAAAAAAD feeling about this"

>Scratch would be some type of robot and for no apparent reason
>Kamal would be transformed into a talking dog.

i'd watch this.

Although we all know it's never really a ghost, just some dude in a mask

So I figure every week at the end of the show they would unmask the villian and it would be some bitter washed up musician

Quest: And now it's time to find out who The Midnight creeper REALLY is

*Pulls of Mask*

THe entire band: SKEE LO!?!??!

Skee Lo: Yea and I would have gotten away with it if it wasnt for you nosy kids!

we gotta step our game up. that's a dope azz cartoon.

last ep i saw they had a lil dude selling his soul for a record contract . (to a demonic record label exec who looked coincidentally like Suge Knight and had that lil ninja doing ham commercials in his videos. that's a fantastic cartoon).

but this would be for adults, tho.

that would have to play to pay, but still OR use Okartists.

you could in theory have a dream concert every damn week.

Gorillaz and The roots on stage having a jam band Battle n shit.

and make the mp3 availible online n shit to the site- up the anti on 'em google ads.

Then come out with a damn CD companion to the DVD that got final mixes n shit...

The marketing/merchandising could be off the damn chain.

...you know how in the Beatles cartoons, the Beatles didn't actually do the voices. Well, the Roots should do that. Let voice actors come in and do the voices of the Roots characters. THEN, have the occasional cameo from one of the Roots and give him one or two lines.

I won't even pretend to justify this post.

How about a limited edition Casio Exilim/r Roots edition camera (complete with shenagians from backstage at various tours customizable by city)

this shit would be golden alone just for how we could clown the shit out of okayartists. erykah? voodoo priestess with a headwrap that rivals ?uesto (she can pull stuff out of it). and all the dudes would be mysteriously attracted to her -- show a visible 'scent' trailing from an herb pouch on her exaggerated hips, but in reality it looks they getting a whiff of that good 'power'

who allows them to wield the ancient and all-powerful liquid sword to defeat the mythical Geffin!

on this one, bite the jackie chan cartoons AND lotr. have Thought unsheath the liquid sword and the world gets all trippy and faded out (like when frodo put on the ring).

he looks around and regular cats in suits at an industry event are shown for their true selves, undead bloodsuckers, so he goes through the spot doing deadly battle with them. in the 'real' world, when one of the beasts is slain, you only see the suit slump.

in the meantime, thought appears to be behaving mad erratic and makes ThemTV news.

the only time he's understandable to anyone outside the super groovey mystery crew is when he's rhyming. PERFECT. ordinarily he is just mumbling like on 'give it here'.

they pull up at a burger king, and he's talking into the mic.

*mumblemummblegrumblemumblehumblemumble*

"exCUSE me, sir??"

*mumblemummblemmmumblegrumble*

"i CAN'T UNDERSTAND YOU!!!!"

?uesto: tariq, ENNUNCIATE! (he plays a beat on the dashboard so thought can communicate)

Thought:

"huh, i'm from the land where brothas is mad hungry/
steady tryna eat but ain't got no money/
iss funny, you wrack ya brain, hus, git splashed like a septa bus/
stomach is growlin an you prowlin like the rest of us/

nobody knows (fans) who this cat is apart from him rhyming. his take on 'give it here' was lampooning the industry and the death/dearth of lyricism, but you can also shine it back on him... when GT came out folks were saying how that was the most they could connect w/ thougth b/c he's such a private person and doesn't reveal much of himself when not on stage.

yet to ?uest an nem, he a different dude.

this would be a very slept on artsy fartsy angle. *typed while black thought banner is on top of screen*.

He can even have some clark kent/superman qualities, he can be quiet deaf mute tariq and then black thought the crazy rapping genius.

there needs to be a hot to semi-hot chick ?uest can go stroll thru the clover with. stress? iono. but when they regroup after the chase scene, she'd look a little frazzled, with that knowing look in her eye and a sated pout.

and then there needs to be a slightly less attractive, she'd-be-cuter-without-her-glasses type of babe, that can roll out with random female guest stars, and they can make vaguely lesbionic comments to each other all thru the ep.

the animators could sprinkle in subliminal nipple shots here & there, right before the commercials.

Who rides around in a flaming corvette or something trying to run our hereos van off the rode.

He would chase them for like 22 minutes, and then decide he isn't mad anymore after the Roots play him a soulful rendition of "Up, up and away"

they hire a pr consultant who says he's worked with all the big rappers. he gradually thugs them out. and then they figure out his master plan for getting them that fame, and they end up on the run yet again while he is running around trying to shoot them, for publicity.

(he calls them to come down to the old abandoned warehouse for a 'press shoot').

great idea, lingo!

good work everybody

background music during the eps....some of these 'treats' on quest's ipod we've never heard. adult swim loves dilla and left of center music right? that'd make it must-see for us music lovers no matter what

and dave chappelle gotta be some type of character, at least on the periphery - that friendship will help the show be must-see beyond okp
there's a whole theme to be found just in them searching the globe for the lost dave....or maybe he's hiding out like the a-team was on the run...never leaves the van...subtle 'greenery' references to what he's up to while the rest are gone. maybe flashbacks where his observations are jokes but reveal truths (like when he does social commentary in stand up) involved in seeing past the bad guy

....dashboard figurines of the yodas

....every ep is titled by a roots song title (or more general, some classic song title)

Like whoever Whoopi Goldberg voiced on Captain Planet.

Probably Jay-Z or someone. He'd dial through on the walkie-talkie like, "Yo, it's Young Hov! There's been a mysterious kidnapping in Parksville. Get on it. If you solve it, I'll throw in an extra $50 in your marketing/promotions budget. YEP! ISHABOY!"

121. "the league of afros"
In response to Reply # 0

who remembers shazam and his league of elders?

imagine the young hero, in times of doubt, diving into the swirling vortex of a bass drum or sumshit, and re-emerging on a mountain top facing the league of afros. or better yet, as an 8 yr old kid with a bigass fro, chilling in front of a tv with a bowl of cereal, and the ppl in the tv are the elders.

they're all lounging in the temple, and at the base of their thrones would be plaques with their names on them. off the top:

dr. j
don cornelius
tito jackson
weird al
angela davis
and
pam grier as "foxy mochalatte"

the elders drop knowledge on lil ?uesto in the voices of their characters (tito could background sing everything) and we all learn a thing or two before we're through. i see ?uest constantly fuckinup and calling pam 'pam' ("thank u miss grier"), and her correcting him ("foxy!")

i'm not in love with the characters themselves (except for foxy), moreso the concept- like maybe replace tito with sly stone... but yeah
