First off, exactly where did this idea come from and can they in any way be considered a valid source? Well, I've heard it from

1. Despotic African leaders:
How about we just agree that the only thing Mugabe and his ilk can say which could even be remotely interesting would be their decisions to step down, pay back all the money they stole while in power and submit themselves to the International court of justice.
Besides which I have a problem with being lectured on the mass of different African cultural and religious practices by people who can barely spell their own names

2. Christian and Muslim leaders:
Um... they are pretty much un-african too? I mean, last time I checked Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Mecca, Media etc. were not cities on the African continent. They represent imported ideas too and therefore they really have no weight at all in condemning another new idea. And thats assuming they even know enough about the ideas they replaced to be able to state whether or not those ideas are new.

3. Pseudo 'African' scholars
The most amusing group of them all. People who got 'conscious' one day, grew dreads and changed their names to something vaguely 'authentic' sounding like Asante or, even worse, Hotep. Most of them haven't spent more than six weeks of their lives on the continent and got all their information about Africa from a self published pamphlet they bought on the corner across from where they live. If we're truly lucky they know who Diop is and can name an African city outside of Egypt. Again, I choose to ignore them off GP


Now, lets assume that in a brilliant stroke of cosmic chance these highly questionably informed people are exactly right. Lets assume that no gay people at all ever existed on the continent before the first of our melanin deprived euro brethren 'found' us. So? Modern African cultures look nothing like they did half a millennium ago. A lot has changed. Some of it bad, I'll agree. Some of it was also harmless or even good for us. While there is a lot about modern living I'm not thrilled to see coming over I insist on a proper informed, clear debate on what we should be accepting and what we should be throwing out rather than this repetition of half baked rhetoric that tends to come from people whose opinions on what colour the sky is are questionable at best.

like why are you trying *prove* that homosexuality was in africa?
if the majority of africa doesn't want to associate itself with homosexuality then respect that
obviously there are ALWAYS outliers in society
of course there had to be some homosexuality activity before the white man arrived
but imo and in the opinion of many africans i know it was never accepted or 'popular' until the white man arrived
nothing can be said of what is done behind closed doors and is not known

DEMOCRACY
females who choose their husband
condoms
monogamy
miniskirts (one should wonder what their great great great mothers were wearing)

being on time
