"MOS DEF! Seattle!"

I'm a bit overzealous perhaps - being the first to post on this show.... It's 4:29 am as I start this but I can't sleep until I say a few things.
First of all - THANK YOU SO MUCH to the S.H.O.W. crew - MarcOne, Broke, Crossfaded and FraeOne - for all the hard work you put in to bring Mos Def to Seattle. (I finally got to meet MarcOne and Broke - both cuties! - and we actually got along quite well - looking forward to bowling!!) You guys did a great job!
The show started with positive energy from Black Anger, Beyond Reality and Source of Labor as well as a couple of spoken word performances by people who I am unfamiliar with - perhaps some of the other players can fill in the blanks...
The sound overall was good - the venue was crowded (from what I heard on the radio on the way home it was a Sold Out show - congratulations guys!) - and the show went off without a hitch!
Maseo (from De La Soul) came out with Mos Def and the two of them proceeded to give the crowd what they came to see. Mos was absolutely enigmatic - a passionate purveyor of his philosophies. He didn't stray much from his album cuts, but we did get to hear a preview of some new De La Soul tracks with his accompaniment.
Mos Def's eyes glimmer like stars. He lit up a room full of about 1,200 awed fans with his delivery, captivated them into silence with a silly ass joke, and gave us new reasons to love him.
He dedicated his show to Nathaniel Abraham (spelling?) the 13-year-old boy in Michigan who was sentenced this week to juvenile detention until his 21st birthday for a murder he committed when he was only 11. I don't know a lot about the case, but I thought it was very caring and conscientious of Mos to do that.
Well - I'm sure the other Seattle players have more to add! Just wanted to get it all out now so I can sleep 2nite
Dove

Never be afraid to try something new. - THANK YOU
>SO MUCH to the S.H.O.W. crew
>- MarcOne, Broke, Crossfaded and FraeOne
>- for all the hard work
>you put in to bring Mos
>Def to Seattle. (I finally
>got to meet MarcOne and Broke
>- both cuties! - and we
>actually got along quite well -
>looking forward to bowling!!) You guys
>did a great job!
Thank you. I told y'all we were gonna do it and we did. I'd like to not thank the U of Washington Arts and Entertainment comission for being the snobby, arrogant bastards that they are. I'd like to not thank them for their cop-out thank you's at the end of the night after saying we didn't do shit to bring Mos to Seattle (Trevor: Thanks SHOW people, we couldn't have done it without you, you were the backbone of the whole show. No shit we were you fucks!) Oh well, enough bitchin and complaining, we're gonna K.I.M. too, expect another show w/ another "big" artist soon.
Now to the show:
The show opened w/ a set by Black Anger f/ Bedroom Produktionz. These guys are straight nice on the mic. The come consciously and even though they are extremely dope they aren't worried about fame and fortune. They do theirs for the community and that is what's really underappreciated about them. If you are around Seattle pick up their EP, or you can check out Bedroom Produktionz track "S.E.L.F." on the M-Boogie compilation "Laid In Full" (Blackberry).
Next up was Beyond Reality. This one woman army is butter on the mic (and happens to be the wife of Wordsayer, the emcee for Source of Labor). She was a woman woman army who was really tearing it up even though the crowd had a lackluster response.
The last group before Mos came out was Seattle's critically acclaimed Source of Labor. They are a live band (a la The Roots). Wordsayer is a lyrical master and it all comes together beautifully live w/ the bass guitar and drums and keys. When they performed one of their better known tracks, "Wetlands" (a reference to Seattle) the crowd was stirred into a frenzy screaming "The wetlands, the wet-wet-lands, the wetlands, the wet-wet lands, the wetlands, the wet wet lands, Pacific Northwest you know we rock fresh". All I have to say is dope.
Now for the Mighty Mos. What more can I say. I've never seen a singular emcee hold down a stage the way Mos did on Saturday. He basically performed a large chunk of his album which was alright with me, along with a couple blackstar jams and "universal magnetic". He told jokes and made us think through music. It was kind of awe inspiring to hear 2,000 people singing "Umi Says" in its entirety. What more can you ask for. (To find out how his performance went see the "Dante's (Beze) Peak" post in the concert section...it was the same here as at Michigan).
As far as non music related things went, there were no altercations w/in the crowd that I was aware of. There are always beautiful women at hip hop shows (hi Dove). Our organization made some good loot for future shows (Dove, there were actually about 2,000 heads there). I got to meet and chill w/ Mos and Maseo and see some of the Northwest players (I know some more were there but I didn't see em). An unforgetable night, mos def. Peace.

Respectfully,
Crossfaded
Vice-President of T.O.P.A. - "We pimp slap stupidity."
"Back in the day hip hop originated with break dancers, graffiti writers, emcees, and most of all the DJs. But here in 2000 selfishness and greed have forced some to neglect those on the wheels of steel. Emcees engaging in this type of behavior see themselves as getting over but in reality they are contributing to the death of true hip hop." -- Unknown voice from DJ E.Q.'s track on Return of the DJ Vol. 1 (Crossfaded's Y2K Remix)
"I don't have a problem with white dudes. It ain't their fault they was born that way. I do have a problem with anybody who pays $5 for a small cup of coffee. So eff a coffee shop chick & a coffee shop dick." -- Hak
"What ever happened to fallin' in love with a N!99A with a bus pass?" -- Eddie Griffith
"My six digits for too long now have been looking like six midgets" -- Saafir
"I'll leave you looking weak like Usher with his shirt off" -- Chino XL

Glad to hear that the show went well. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it, Seattle is is like 5-6 hours from here and I couldn't find anyone with a car to go with me. My friends (the ones with cars, anyway) were like, "Mos Def, who's that? why you wanna go all the way to Seattle just to see that guy?" Arrgh, it's times like this that I wish I still had my car.
Good to know that your work in making the show happen payed off-it sounds like Mos rocked it.
Peace to all other NWokayplayas.

I am all styles, and yet I have no style
-Bruce Lee

I MISSED THE MOS DEF SHOW UNFORTUNATLY. BUT, I DID CATCH THOSE LITTLE TROLLS THE LOST BOYS IN THE CLUB THAT SAME NIGHT. ONE OF THE TROLLS SAID THAT MOS DEF WAS CORNY. IF YOU ASK ME, THE WAY THAT THE LOST BOYS WAS ACTIN IN THE CLUB THEY WERE THE CORNY ONES. THEY JUST CAME IN THE CLUB AND STARTED ACTING LIKE THEY OWNED THE PLACE. THEY WERE TRYING TO PROMOTE THEIR SHOW UP IN EVERETT. I WOULD NOT EVEN WANT TO SEE THEM IF IT WAS FREE AT A PARK. I KINDA HAD TO LAUGH AT THE WHOLE THING. NOT EVERY RAPPER HAS TO BE ALL OVER THE BANDWAGON ACTIN' IGNORANT...TOO BAD THEY DON'T REALIZE THAT...MAYBE THAT'S WHY THEIR ALBUM FLOPPED...NAH, IT'S CAUSE THEY HAVE NO SKILLS. YEAH THAT'S WHY.

well i must first say that the day did not go well for me so that might affect my view of the show. it was my first time seeing and hearing source of labor, black anger and beyond reality and i have to say that i was impressed. granted my exhaustive day seemed to kept me from really getting into it, but i was feelin them nonetheless. my friend jay and i felt beyond reality was the overall fave out of the local groups. i've come to the conclusion that the reason i dig the roots, common, mos def, and the other okplayer artists so much is the fact that they enjoy making good music so much. you can tell how much effort and love goes into everything they do when you see them onstage. it was apparent in mos def's smile and attitude throughout his set. you knew that he was having a good time and he wasnt afraid to take the crowd with him and included us in as many of the songs as he could. it killed me when he kinda stopped the show to tell us a joke! another high point for me was when maseo from de la came out and did a song with mos over some new de la soul beats!! if it wasnt so late i would elaborate some more but school calls me early tomorrow morning. well, thanks to the hip hop org. for putting on the show. sorry to any of the okp's if it seemed like i blew you off. its no excuse but i had a bad day and was tired. trust me, its all love coming from me! see all of you seattle okp's bowling!
