""Non-House" House Songs"

perhaps this is a bygone era....but sometimes I long for songs that just happened to get picked up by the house nation...even though they weren't intended to be such....I'll start

It Only Takes a Minute - Tavares

go....

Hrm...

Rhythim is Rhythim - "Strings Of Life"
Aril Brihka - "Groove La Chord"
DJ Rolando - "Jaguar"
Yennek - "Without"
Kenny Larkin - "Azimuth"
Inner City - "Big Fun"
Inner City - "Good Life"

BTW, Inner City was, technically, a Detroit Techno group that had House crossover appeal.

treadmilling my ass off, b.

but that's kinda like a technicality, separating detroit techno and house, because they are off the same tree. (ie, that's like discounting ny/nj and bmore club bangers that also had house appeal).

maybe in the chi and detroit it was really differentiated strongly like that, but i clearly remember going to clubs/parties where they'd play from all the above sub-dance genre's and just call it 'house' or 'club'. when big fun and devotion, respect by adeva, all that shit was spun together along w/ jack your body and whatever house anthems were out.

peace & blessings,

x.

We made the distinction in tha D. Detroit Techno originally sounded nothing like House. It wasn't until the producers started using a 4/4 kick pattern that they started to sound somewhat alike, and then not much most of the time.

Cybotron's "Clear" and "R-9" sound nothing like House. Nor does Model 500's "Night Drive" or "No UFO's". I'll give you "Strings of Life", but some of Derrick's other work, like "Nude Photo", didn't really sound like house. Of the 3 creators of Techno, only Kevin Saunderson blurred the line with his Inner City group, but his solo stuff as Essray doesn't have the house sound.

I'm sure a lot of Chi-Town cats would explain it the same way, but coming from their House-centric perspective.

I dated this chick from Chicago back in '94, we were pretty much on the same page as to what sound came from where.

in my memory that was a pure house track, but i recently came up on the song and, on close listen, it could have easily been r&b/disco. but it's a classic.

Do you ever play,"Burnin'Hot" from the "Let's Get Serious" album ? Or this track called,"I Gotta Have You", from "I Like Your Style" ? These two tracks have that house vibe to them. Also,do you ever spin,"It's A Disco Night" by the Isley's, from "Winner Takes All" ? I know there's a 12 inch of it.

If you find it again, post it. On a sidenote, "Lonely People" by Lil'Louis will still jump start the party, as well as,"New Dance Beat". I need a new dance beat, I need a new dance beat !!!!!

it was on the radio nova (Parisian radio) website (www.novaplanet.com). Whenever a deejay was in town, they would have him at the station for an interview and sometimes the deejay would agree to mix for an hour or so. Folks like Lil Louis, Frankie Knuckles, Francois K, Master At Works, etc, etc...then, they had all these mixes in one section of their website. I kept going back to it whenever I wanted to hear one particular mix, but like a dumbass I never made any copy.

Then one day they redesigned the whole site, and the mixes went down.
Maybe I could email them...

I'm still trying to recover from that.

He also had this version of "Strings of Life" that I haven't heard before or since. It broke down to nothing but a toy music box playing the main melody. It was ridiculous.

No doubt,

glad to see the info about what house is getting out, don't go telling folks this is where they could some killer samples though. Some of us Chicago heads caught a glimpse of a genreless world, abeit only for brief period, but it was a beautiful thing.

I'll add
