As I said the first time I heard a Vivrant track, and as Mosaic said already in this thread, it's all about the voice. Just the voice alone spells major potential. I've only listened to a few tracks, but I'm feeling a little something about most of them - the production on some tracks, MCing on some tracks, the one where they really come together is on Untitled. When I hear the whole thing if this thread is still up I'll post a more thoughtful take on it, but I might not get a chance, so here's what hit me off the bat:
The voice: what I like is that it's got the ying-yang dynamic that Snoop had on songs like Deep Cover - it's a laid-back, smoked-out type voice, but it's got a hostile, threatening quality to it. When I don't feel it so much is when it's too relaxed - like Untitled is my fav. so far cause the lines hit hard, even though Vivrant sounds laid back. But on a couple songs it's TOO relaxed, the MCing sounds like some average underground tape where the MC might just be quoting out of his thesaraus without giving a fuck about delivery or energy, etc., just thinking he's smart (the lyrics aren't like that, but the raps lost me cause of that delivery - the production held me though). I'd like to give more specifics, but I gotta listen more. However, I will say, whatever you're doing on Untitled Vivrant, keep doing it, cause that's the kind of song I could play for basically anyone. I actually just played it for two girls with totally different musical tastes (neither is "underground rap", BTW), and they both dug it.
