As far as I can remember. I can't recall the term being used on that album. In fact, the first time I can remember Rakim using it is in "Juice (Know The Ledge)" ("knockin' n*ggas off, knockin' n*ggas out")

Can you think of a verse in "Paid In Full" that uses it?

"Paid in Full" is nigga-free in full. See my response about the 80's. You see, after NWA, rappers who had spent years making records without using the N-word suddenly had a change of heart/vocab, and now "a whole buncha ni--as throw the word in they rhyme"(c)Q-Tip, who is of course, one of the many people guilty of this crime.

Pick a rap album from the 80's and unless it is early gangsta rap (NWA, etc.), chances are 99% sure it does not have the N-word on it.

Public enemy and KRS-One don't use the Term.. the new (well, actually unreleased so far) Arrested Development CD doesn't have the word on it. Will Smith don't use it. Basically No White Rappers used it. I don't think Ozomatli's second album has either. It's a shame that you have to put up with this term to listen to hip hop these days.

Does it make a rapper appear to be soft?

How can a so called con-science rapper use the word?

Con-science rapper that uses the word nigger is diabolical and defeats the purpose of rap music.

Even worse in soul music.
To hear Bilal use the word on his CD sounds very misplaced. Almost like the record company asked him to use nigga.

Soon, white rappers will claim and capture nigger and use it in black art.

How are black rappers going to defend the use of nigger to their white homeboys?

We are role-models for young white America.

Do black rappers understand this concept?

But the future is grim with regards to change.

P.S. Look at Bilal's thank-you's... did the label tell him to use it there too? That's the only part of what you said I couldn't co-sign - rappers and singers use it cuz they want to, not because they're forced.

I hear what you are saying. I bought Chante Moore's last album for one particular song. But when I heard the cd version vs the radio, the whole chorus messed up the song. I didn't even like it anymore. But I aggree with ?uest. I was waiting on Bilal's cd to drop since....man....let's just say the day it came out, I was there. It didn't take away or add anything to the song when he used the "term".

>Soon, white rappers will claim and
>capture nigger and use it
>in black art.

I thought we got the term from white folks anyway?? What difference will it make who says it?? It's either wrong or right...right? Jennifer Lopez said it, even though JaRule wrote the song. Everyone blew a casket. But as I said earlier, so did Chante Moore. Don't recall it being a big deal when she said it. Is that because Jennifer has a larger fan base, i.e. all shades??

>How are black rappers going to

>
>We are role-models for young white
>America.
>It's a simple concept, but why does the world have to be so color oriented. Does right and wrong have color barriers? To say that we are role-models for young white America...what's up with that? Why not say we are role models for the youth???

Hmm... I wasn't actually going by album - I was just going on Pep Love on record (see my Proofs response). So, since I haven't heard his albums, I cannot say "untrue" without a doubt. But I do doubt he kept his albums clean and only used the word on the Hiero joint...

You have good memory. Damn, makes me like this album even less. Weird hearing it on a R&B song; like seeing R Kelly moulding the shape of an ass in that Booty video. And playing Doo Wop, all the curses are edited out, but she said it on that song to; buts is one of the few actual rap songs on this album so its more understood.

Playing this album again, damn this shit was over rated around Grammy time. Crazy over rated. Not even all that great in terms of R&B. She really should get back to rhyming again.

doesn't have it. if you check some old cold crush tapes, they do say it there though. Q-Tip never used it til midnite marauders. de la werent using it really til around 96 heavily. Masta Ace same - 93 started it. Kool Keith wasnt really using it til around after dr octagon. I wish maybe a few rappers would go back to that. I think a few rappers use it more excessively than they need to, like busta's anarchy.

the other day in FHIM
Ja Rule is the only black man in this magaizine this month
and in his interview, nigga is the subject of all his sentences

There is trouble when, after 300 years of oppresion, black people are running around using nigga like hot sauce, putting the word on everything.

nigga means nigga means nigger
don't care how U slice it

How do you explain to people the justification of the word?

Is the word justifiable in rap music?

wait till you hear my album....not only n-word free, but it will be profanity free...why? because i chose every word i use carefully either for metaphoric effect or for how it fits into the flow...and also because i've been freestyling without cussing for so long that i don't even think of profanity when i write rhymes...although i curse in conversational speech (i don't use the n-word in speech though).

it's still gonna be hardcore though. heh.

Why is your album nigga-free?

Was it a conscious choice? And I mean that in the did-you-realize-it? way, but you can respond based on both senses of term.

Is there a difference to you between having a curse-free album and a nigga-free album? What about a bitch-free album?

Do you say the word in real life?

What is your opinion on other rappers using it?

Make sure you don't see any of these questions as hostile... it's just stuff I'm wondering. Thanks and peace.

>Why is your album nigga-free?
because i feel theres other shit to say other than nigga. why say "me and my niggas get head from a bitch in my benz" when i can at least say "1 girl and 3 guys aint even, but in this vehicle its not stopping her from bobbin and weaving" or something like that (if i wanted to put that message out im sayin). and nigga isnt even as hard to change as that example i just gave you...simply replace it with "brother" or "cat" or "playa" or 100 other names. to make a long answer short...i dont want to embrace the word in my music.

>Was it a conscious choice? yes
>And I mean that in
>the did-you-realize-it?
way, but you
>can respond based on both
>senses of term.
meaning conscious as in "hey my brother we need to stop using that word"? yes and no. i do realize that its offensive and im not some person trying to create a positive meaning out of the word, but then again i wont stop one of my friends if they say "what up nigga!" and i might be caught using it as in "that nigga is crazy!" or something like that. i dont frequent the word but it does slip sometimes.

>Is there a difference to you
>between having a curse-free album
>and a nigga-free album?
yea...cursing shouldnt offend a hip hop head, but saying "nigga" could.

>What about a bitch-free album?
yea women would be offended...then again they say women buy the most albums, and dre and eminem arent buying all these copies theirselves.

>Do you say the word in
>real life?
nigga? sometimes yea i do, but its an old habit. try not to.

>
>What is your opinion on other
>rappers using it?
well...busta uses it to fucking much...i say to each his own, im not really too offended, but sometimes i do feel like my intelligence is being insulted when you gotta say "nigga" 20 times within 16 bars.

this felt like my first interview! that was cool! im being serious too!

Original post said white people are counted out. So here's a question that came to my mind, white albums that do use it. I'm thinking White Dawg, and there was that one Bubba Sparxxx song that he changed, but what else? Just curious

I don't think De La uses it that much.I can't remember them using it in their early work but I might be wrong.

I dont think it is on 3 Ft. High and Rising (hmm maybe we should discuss this album, plug plug plug) or DLSID, but it is on BM, SIH, and AOI:MT, so I'm guessing it will be on Bionix too.

I was originally hoping that my group Krucilbe Kulture's album was gonna be nigger free, but my brother in law used it on a song that we decided wasn't gonna be on the album for other reasons. So we were still nigger free until one of the members used it in the last song that we recorded. Here's the quote:

"...the way that society is, it seems like I'm gonna die next,
Behing a terrorist bomb threat or some thug nigga wit' a tek, Takin' me out while I'm in line at the bank, cashing my check..."

The way he used it actually doesn't bother me. My solo album may be "nigga free". I don't know, I haven't used the word in a verse in many many years, but I am considering saying "These niggas is trife, thinkin' that they bigger than life" on one song.
