"Most embarrassing moments for established artists."

Something came down my social media that made me laugh for 3 and a half glorious moments. I nominate Mick Jagger and David Bowie's 'Dancing in the Streets'. Move over Nancy Reagan....this had the potential to be the greatest cocaine deterrent of all time:

after that justin timberlake 20/20 pt 2 shit i vowed to never give yall tidbits again to this site.

but eh eff it, im on vacation bored.

this is short version cause a mofo bout to go swimming:

so alan says him, chick, wendy & bobby also tagged along.

alan knew from the gate that P was out of element (well on some "being put on the spot" ish) so he INSTANTLY knew a quick exit was in order. mind you this was WAY before cell phones, so walkee talkies were the order of the day.

by the time the left handed guitarist gave P (right hand) the axe, alan ran to lobby and told driver high tail it NOW---like presidential emergency NOW---to side of theater.

P of course was carried out of there cradle style to the side exit and alan gave wendy and bob the "let's go NOW" glance.

it was a LONG traffic filled ride from Pasadena to Beverly Hills.

ride was DEAD SILENT.

back of limo: noone said a word. noone heard each other breathe.

he noted that it was THAT night, something sparked in him (alan telling me) (and reflected in rehearsals afterwards) that he will NEVER be denied ever ever ever ever again being seen as anything but NOT GREAT.

so that night gave birth to the confident swagger, stop on a dime "coudCAWD *smack*" P of 83-88. rehearsals were longer and harder.

partly cause he let them see him in a vulnerable position. and mostly cause he was determined.

back in that dangleo/me/prince jam at SOBS (which is on video according to owner that i saw at party) prince gave me his version (this was way before me seeing the video) and he kicked it like "james hates me, mike set me up" when i asked him "why are you so nice to me and D, when i expected you to be stand offish and on some ish (which he did post "untitled" at the park) and he told me how important it was to embrace the new generation since "that set up"---he actually described the events verbatim.

james also gave his version in autobiography and said "mike studied me harder so he was more natural"

rashida gave me Q's story which was more mike being mischievous on some "who is gonna inherit the keys to kingdom" story.

That story never gets old...And Bobby Z's reaction (below) is CLASSIC...As Questo said, this was indeed a clever set-up on MJ's part...Mike was on some, "Oh, you think you big time, now?!!!"...And that shit needed to happen...Because Prince needed to understand that the masters never take a night off....

Take it away Mr. Leeds....

ALAN LEEDS: Prince went to a James Brown gig in 1983 with Bobby Z, his drummer at the time, Big Chick, who was his security guard, and I think Jill Jones, who was one of his protégés. By now, everybody knows what happened at that gig. I don’t think Prince realized that Michael was going to be there. James looked a little puzzled in that video when Michael whispered in his ear, “Hey, bring Prince up.” And of course Prince didn’t really know what to do either. He went to the guitar first but he fumbles with that because it was left-handed. He played a few licks, did some dancing and knocked over a prop by accident. Now I always wondered if Michael intentionally brought Prince up to put him in that position just to say, “Hey, you think you’re on my ass? Well follow this, motherfucker *laughs*.” Bobby Z called me and said, “Oh boy…he made an ass of himself tonight.” He said Prince didn’t say a word the whole way to the hotel.

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

because MJ was in shades and casual and still with a mini 30 second to a minute performance had that place hopping. i mean MJ just did a vocal riff and a cold spin and had folks going crazy.

James Brown wasn't tripping because it was his stage and he was cool regardless.

I think Prince wanted to be seen as mysterious and not in that light at that point of his career. had that been 93 or 03 then maybe Prince might have said ok, however he was too insecure in his development at that point to be on that stage.

bottom line MJ is the King period. because MJ was never afraid of saying come on my stage and lets do this. I mean MJ got the cape from JB nuff said.

why am i the only one that believes this?
it hit a real emotional core.

it was about knowing you can never truly go back,
but there is always that piece of your heart that belongs to
somebody that you can never be with again.

mariah carey, to me at least,
never really had the ability to emote until later on in her career.

i always liked her,
but i didn't FEEL her until that tune, and "the emancipation of mimi."

it's a cliche, but later on in mariah's career, she sang better to me
because it sounded like she had been through some shit. (and she had).

apparently, nobody else agrees with me on this.
everybody seems to hate "glitter." lol

not to mention breakdown (hell, most of butterfly)

"never really had the ability to emote" vs. "ability to reach *me* emotionally" != the same at all

*especially* for "never too far" which sounds like the bastard child of a liza manelli song and whomver gets cut first from any given season of American Idol. you can easily visualize someone under a spotlight in a sparkly dress with their arms raised over their head at that last word/note on some whenever whitney sang a diane warren song vibe. the word "treakly" resonates

'Players say the strangest things

"vanishing" is a top notch vocal performance.

"circles" and "we belong together" make me think about picking up the phone calling motherfuckers that i haven't spoken to in years
because maybe (just maybe) it could be different this time.

the songs feel more real.
the only song from early mariah carey i feel in that way
is "all i want for christmas."

that shit fucks me up every year. lol

I understand it was a departure from what folks wanted from Nas, but, IMHO, he was spitting, the beat was hot, and Ginuwine killed the chorus. Still don't get it... I guess folks just prefer stuff like Hero or Make The World Go Round...

Come to grips with the fact that most OKP's are of the Nut Hugger lineage, so, if you' re not part of the little cliques that exist 'round here, your posts will probably tank like Souljaboy's album sales.

That flick wasn't embarrassing, the feisty-cruise-chef-who-flames-the-shark one was.

I read somewhere....maybe here....that they toured with Oasis for a bit. Noel Gallagher, being the funniest man in rock that he is, was apparently MERCILESS to Lars. He kept quoting the movie over and over again and re-enacting the scenes. I would pay top dollar to see any footage of that.

Yah...Miles definitely had some stuff in the 80's that makes me shake my head.

The Lauryn Hill unplugged is a weird one for me. I can't help but kinda feel admiration for her...it was such a gutsy move. I know it turned into a mess a couple times throughout the performance.....but there was something about it that I think was cool still.

JB's 'living in America' will never be confused for a hilite of his career....haha...but it's nowhere near the atrocity of that Jagger/Bowie collab. I can halfway dig 'living in america'.

Madonna's biggest embarassment should be her recent endorsement of extacy use in her concerts. I mean...there might have been implicit references to drugs in her music before. But she always seemed clever enough to walk that line without making explicit references. I was really surprised she'd do that. She knows that her audience is wide...the most desperate and transparent move she's made in an otherwise very smart career path.

James Brown watering down his sound for disco...

Aretha Franklin's late 70's wilderness years (horrible, horrible shit)...

The Stones after 1978 (although I did kinda liked "Emotional Rescue" and "Start Me Up"...)

Run DMC's Tougher Than Leather movie....

Rick James' Glow period (AKA, that Purple Jack...)

Prince's Graffiti Bridge movie (epically bad)...Prince records "Jughead" (ditto)...Did I mention how horrible that shit was?????

Nas...Nastradamus...Yeah I know it's cliche, but this was thoroughly suspect...

U2's Rattle & Hum movie (Duh...)

Jay Z...."Super Ugly"...Kingdom Come...SMH...

MJ...Blood On The Dance Floor; Mike statue building overseas; MJ recording songs with Akon...

Weezy...Basically everything he has recorded since getting on that LEAN...
