I too was very disappointed with that album due to some weak beats or dumb ideas (rapping over "Superstition"? Come on!). however, I dug this beat which is very much in line with what Diamond D was doing on his "Hatred, Passion and infidelity"-album; solid stuff but yes, that verse is terrible. I haven't played this album since it was released BTW, pretty sad since Show&A.G. and D.I.T.C. in general are amongst my favourites but the whole crew (minus Buckwild) fell off more-or-less.

whilst his lyrics aren't the worst ever on this song, the fact that Dude practically runs in and tries his best to ruin one of the best rap songs of all time with a completely whack verse that barely rhymes and a flow that is absolutely bloody terrible leaves me fuming every time I listen to it.

But yea - I just went back and listened. I rarely listen to WuTang anymore, can't really explain why just found it hard to keep up with all their stuff so besides Raekwon's recent shit, I just never go back and listen to them.

So, this response made me go back and listen to Triumph for the first time in a long time...and yea, shit, you're right. I think to some extent I just always chose to ignore the fact that "vocabulary 'donna" spit an incredibly weak verse in an otherwise perfect song, cause I never really thought about it until just now when you mentioned it.

But man is that awful.

That said though...I'll be damned if Triumph ain't still one of the greatest songs ever recorded. Soon as that beat came on, and ODB started talking, my head was automatically bobbing like a mufucker. Couldn't even help myself.

It ain't just on this song. Obviously the fact that everyone besides ODB rhymes on it is a reason it sticks out, but just about every song WuTang ever made with multiple members showcases just how incredible and impressive they all are. They are ALL different, different styles, different flows, different subject matter (to a certain extent), etc. That's why WuTang is as fun to listen to as they are.

The song "Iron Flag" comes to mind, where it only features Rae, Masta Killa and Deck, and it's so apparent how different all of them are, but somehow the songs always work.
