"Usher Plans On Switching Up From R&B To EDM "

lank: http://hellobeautiful.com/gossip-news/hellobeautifulstaff2/is-usher-giving-up-on-rnb-music

Usher is teaming up with music producer/DJ David Guetta for his next album. The man behind mega-hits such as Kelly Rowland’s “When Love Takes Over” and the Black Eyed Peas “I Gotta Feeling” may be assisting Usher in his transition to making electro dance music.

Usher met up with Guetta, as well as Akon, in Paris while on an OMG tour stop. He told a Daily Star reporter, “I’ve always been a friend of Akon’s and wanted to do something incredible with David Guetta, too. It’s by no means finished but we made a pretty cool song. I’d like to get a new album out early next year.”

He added, “There’s always something incredible coming from Europe, which I think the US is a little behind on. I’m really excited to be here and bring a little ‘rev-pop’ to the UK.” SOURCE

It’s clear, based on his “OMG” and “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love” hits that Usher’s making less and less generic R&B.

--------------------------------------------------------------

We all knew he was bit by the EDM bug a few albums ago but to now want to officially do nothing but EDM is surprising...or maybe not since it looks like that's what the trend is for a lot of pop (r&b/rock) artists these days and it doesn't seem like this genre isn't slowing down anytime soon as far as popularity goes, especially when you got artists like Rihanna going multi-platinum, getting tons of awards, & being #1 on various charts across the world.

Now all we need is for some artists to bring or put the soul back into EDM, we need a balance of some deepness in it for it to really connect back home where it belongs; or am I just being delusional?

This is why Usher was never a musical leader in my eyes.....He's not someone that pushes the artform and never has been...And hey, it is what it is...I dig some of his albums, especially 8701...But really, dude was and has always been a puppet....If it was the in-thing to sing over dog whistles Usher would be jumping on the bandwagon....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

I'm not in the white boys' head like that..

All I know is Usher is wildly overrated...And this is coming from someone who actually likes some of his songs...

But for me they're both equal artistically speaking, I don't see Justin as an Artist and Usher as an entertainer, they're both entertainers.

I never thought that Justin Timberlake was much of an artist. I mean, it's not like he's some Meshell Ndegeocello ... Maybe Im wrong (in this case educate me) but I think he's credited for a lot of things he didn't do, especially on this board.

I know JT had a vision on Lovesex whatever (I don't like that album anyway)but they both have talent. Who has the best chance of making a good R&B album or a game changing piece of music at this point ? Probably JT but right now he hasn't done anything that worth all of that hype IMO.

Contrary to your own opinion, employees at most publications do not operate as the Borg, Maxx...

Folks are not in some Stalin-eque regime....We share different views on even the acts we cover....

No one act brings home the bacon....Ads do, young Maxx...

Let's try to have a debate about music without bringing up people's gigs at every turn.....

If you want to defend Usher, that's cool..All the extras are not needed...Your opinion and reasoning is enough to hold water....

Don't get it twisted...I dig some of Usher's shit...I just have issues with folks making him out to be some great act...He's basically Bobby Brown with a better voice and a smarter more ambitious career mindset...

I find the fact that he's doing the Euro Pop thing very telling....

Michael Joe Jackson's plate now don't you get it twisted my brother tell the whole truth on that one.

Usher is good, not great imo, however he has his place and his career ain't lasted this long by accident.

i liked bobby more, however Usher has the better longevity and dedication.

if bobby had have had usher's drive and dedication than bobby might have been a hall of famer easily imo.

i give ush his due at sticking around and doing his thing.

horrible.. Usher is done. The nigga was tired as shit at the Superbowl. I also love the lazy ass performance when he was half stepping and sweating on the Bieber kid.

Usher had it... and when he fired his momma he lost it.... he had a few nice slow cuts and OMG is decent but the guy can't dance and sing anymore...

Chris Brown can dance circles around Usher right now.

just make an album that has those elements in it..

there are a lot of artists and producers making what some are calling Electronic Soul music or futuruistic soul etc..whatever.... Ursher would be well served fukking with producers like that...

but to come out and say I'm making a transition to electronic dance music tells me that he and his people may be over-thinking the appearne rather than getting him with producers that will make some interesting music with him

Neyo is making better songs, and is performing live with a live band more..... Ursh and the rest need to step they game up.

Questlove done told you R.Kelly is a Musical Genius.

best live late night performance he has every seen.

R.Kelly was so powerful live that he made Quest's fro darker and Jimmy Fallon was so excited he turned extra white.

you ain't got nobody seeing that.

Usher can sing/sang live.

you just like them rooty/pooty/ashy tired turkeys with no hits and no jams.

sorry grandpa but this is the 21rst century.

them turkeys you like sing live at the county fair and at a Jack in the Box Lobby free taco party and still can't pack a drive thru.

I like Ursher...think he's talented..... If there is any R&B dude who could take current R&B back to the standard it should be at...It's him..

but for some reason it seems lately like they are purposely aiming lower than they should...

When you are as successful as Ursh has been...you don't need to make no damn formal announcement about a style change... He could work with whatevr produer he wanted and it would sell.

Ursher needs to fukks with some of these outside the box produers ...fukk with Shafiq Hussain...or Jack Splash...or Vikter Duplaix.... And just make a damn album...lol.

i hate it when ppl jump on to the EDM thing and act like they are so far ahead of the american curve

we invented modern electronic music and if he doesnt know this then he's just jumping on the bandwagon of whats moving units, as opposed to coming from a genuine appreciation for it.

which means its probably not going to be very lasting

Is it the label? The "Man"? Fans? Usher has a decade plus long career, sold out arena tours, millions or record sales and he's played a part in the career of one of the biggest pop stars in the world right now so why does he "need" to do this? This doesn't read like this is where his heart is...more just like he is following trends. You would think at this point in his career he would make the type of music he wants to make rather than try and keep up with the latest trend or fad.

Usher's last two major crossover hits, "OMG" and "DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love", were straight-ahead electro pop. So, as an artist who is rooted in the pop charts, why wouldn't he continue to milk the current formula that's working for him (and his peers)?

I don't get it. In the history of r&b music it's always been about following trends. From doo-wop to disco to hip-hop, the main focus of r&b has always and will always be about following trends, especially since the very bread & butter of it is dance-centric music. This how the music evolves and someone manages to keep themselves relevant correct? EDM is the future right now, especially with how technology is moving along at a extremely fast pace.

Every so often you get someone who does something astoundingly different that brings pop music to a new direction, but those people are really far and few in between. What matters most is if the music is good and someone enjoys it.

I think a lot of the replies in this post is more who you might be referring to as those who aren't recieving the news as a positive or even a decent trade off.

The only problem here though is the current mainstream version of EDM isn't an evolution. Stuff's been there since forever, ppl are truly hopping on a bandwagon of what sounds "hot" at the moment right now. Even hip hop is scraping here and there off it.

It's not astoundingly different and I think that is also ppl's gripe with this bold declaration by Ursh. It's not like lyrically its awesome or sonically its adding elements we've never heard. A lot of the current staples of this new pop "discovery" are nothing more than nostalgic takes on remakes or rearranged versions of such.

Dance music is hear to stay for the next 5 to 10 years. Black artists better get down or lay down. I am glad that Pitbull, Lil Jon, Flo Rida, Black Eyed Peas, etc. are startting to switch over. I am bored with urban music. Pretty soon, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, and other rappers will be going hard with the electronic music.

washed-up artist who makes terrible ass music tries to reinvent himself by switching over to Dance Music.

Only to succeed at making terrible ass Dance records.

I'm sick of Dance Music being to "cure all" for old washed up motherfuckers. If you suck, you suck. Don't look to Dance Producers to breath life into your new shit. I get VERY offended when acts who used to clown ( or at the very least ignore) Dance Music, come sniffing around looking for some sort of musical Life Support.

and for the love of God, if you DO decide to make some Dance shit, could you PLEASE get some quality producers and not just some ol' Flavor of the Month shit?
