...Packers vs. Bears?

history aside (and recent SB history for either of 'em ain't been stellar), neither of these teams can just show up and expect a "W"...they ain't built like that. maybe it's a midwest thing...i dunno.

they've done great...but I see so many weaknesess in their game, its hard for me to get real excited by them...now Im a casual sports fan, but the Bears are my team....you have to rmbr that the 2006 squad, led by wack ass Rex Grossman, wasnt all that tight but they still made it to the SB....

if they get mopped in this game or the Superbowl, I wouldnt be surprised...but this season they HAVE been winning games that I thought they would lose...

but I can say that they have deifnitely stepped their game up from last season...Hester and especially Tillman have stepped up...

I expect victory...but what Im really looking for is an intense game...these cats wil be fighting to the death...

funny thing is I normally hate the Packers and my dad is a Bears fan... but I became an Aaron Rodgers fan when he was at Cal so I kinda want to see him make it. But I won' be mad if the Bears win as long as the Jets win too. Bears-Jets would be competitive.

it's in the same class as the Blueprint, which I would agree is one of the best hip-hop albums of the decade.

maybe it was just because it was Face on Def Jam, I dunno. But even the packaging for that album was cool.

>i guess SC is just that shit.

because the 2nd wave of Wu albums were felt as underwhelming.
Then Ghost came back on what was perceived as some "classic Wu shit" with RZA involved, right off the first track, and he soon snatched Meth's place as "The People's Champ" in the group.

the only flaws that album had in retrospect were the changed tracklisting and the interpolated samples (many didn't notice, but a lot of '99 albums had that "affected by the bootleggers" reworking. Nas's album that year came to mind). I couldn't look at the CD and actually know which track was which. that dogged Ghost on the album following.

I'm not a huge fan of the tradcks with Faith and Kelly Price and such. I will say that it begins and ends very strong though, but that middle prevents it from being truly echelon to me. I understand why people rank it that high though.

In response to Reply # 0

I know Im late, but this boy got a hard road ahead...

http://moms.today.com/_news/2011/01/03/5738901-the-mom-of-a-princess-boy-speaks-out-

look at that boy's face...he's not feeling that shit...his mom is exploiting the SHIT out of him...you get the feeling that he knows he looks ri-goddamn-diculous...

should he grow out of that shit...we have the internet now, so that shit will follow him forever...grade school and high school are gonna be a bitch...

as far the parents...look, if the kid wants to wear dresses and shit, cool...its a free coutnry....but under my roof, he'd have to wait until he's 18 and on his own for all that...but that's just ME...

when youre FIVE YEARS OLD, I make the important decisions for you because your mind is not developed enough to handle serious decision making...you can decide whether you want red or orange Jello at 5 years old, but not too much beyond that level...a lot of 5 year olds wants to wear their Halloween costumes or their pajamas all the time and we dont let them do that...let's not even talk about how some toddelrs just disregard clothes altogether...

I personally think he was sexually abused by someone very early on...that's just the vibe I get by the disturbed look on his face and the tone of this whole deal...I could be wrong...

Poor little guy.

BTW, please spare me the "gender is fluid" argument. Im not willing to even entertain that. Sorry.

24. "It's more common than you think."
In response to Reply # 8

I know of two male toddlers with the same thing. It's alot easier to deal with if you live in an urban area....I'd guess a rural area might bring it's own difficulties.

And 5 year old children need to have the freedom of making SOME decisions.....it's a part of their development in identity. Stuff like 'my favorite color', 'my favorite toy', 'my favorite cartoon'. This boy just happens to be choosing those kinds of things that are designed to appeal to girls.

I don't know exactly what you mean by 'gender is fluid' but I'm guessing it's a reference to 'gender theory' which is pretty helpful to explain these instances.

I'm no expert, but the main jist is that society has created two main 'paths' or 'roles' for each sex. Stuff that girls like....and stuff that boys like.....ways that girls behave and ways that boys behave. So sometimes....an individual is attracted to the roles of the opposite sex.

So a 'gender theorist' would say that this kid is most likely going to be gay. For some reason (and there's lots of debates about those).....the female gender role appeals to this kid more than the male gender role. So when his sexuality starts developing....he already identifies himself to female roles and will probably be gay.

Of course, there's no strict and fast rules about this. But it's quite common for gay adults to remember the same childhood patterns. Whether it be 'tomboys' (for girls) or 'princess boys'.

Like you & Scrop had said, it's cool to let the kid choose & make some decisions that he like but the problem I have is his mom is using him to get famous and some limelight, she's not doing that for no LGBT community she's doing that for herself.

It's the same as those mothers & fathers who put their little girls in those beauty padgents, 75% of the time their doing it for themselves not for their daughters.

I dont wanna assume....but when I was in HS, I spent a decent amt of time thinking of designs and shit I could get cut into my hair....I would break it down to the barber(who was a lil tipsy most of the time)and he'd have me out of the chair in 15 mins..20 if the shit was real intricate...

a regular ass fade, tho...7-10 mins, chief--and your shit would be TIGHT...and I'm talking abt working barbers--errybody knows you dont let the new cat or the old ass man cut your hair(I've done both when pressed for time and paid the price afterward)...

mind you, barbers from back in the day bullshitted around the same way cats do now...their woman or kids or both would come in and they would have to break off and deal with them, they put on movies, pause yuor haircut to enagage in barbershop debates, send a kid out to the store and to get food, and of course, talk on the goddamn phone while fadin you up...

the haircuts are simpler now, but it seems like it takes longer to get cut....the average cut time for me now is 30-45 mins....I noticed the uptick when I was in college...

maybe its just me...*shrug*

In response to Reply # 10

Just an observation. Most cultures are much more functional about their haircuts. Just do it and let me get on with my day.

But Black barbers take it SERIOUS. When I go to the black barbershop....those guys spend a half hour giving me a buzzcut. Trimming this and that....the attention to detail.....it's like a fine art.

The Korean and Chinese people I go to rub a shaver over my head a couple times and I'm outta there in 5 minutes for $5.

I think they realize the importance of a clean haircut is. And they don't want to have their name associated with that bad haircut. That's the key. A haircut is a barber's business card. A clean cut is the best way for a barber to gain clientele.

You're such pests...now, what is it you want? In your depths of your ignorance, what is it you want? Well, whatever it is you want, I can't deliver because I just don't see it. - Orson Welles

I know that when my hair gets longer than a certain point they gotta be careful w/it.

and it's a pain in the ass to find the right barber. While I've been erring on the side of shag nowadays, one person that was cuttin' my hair when first moved here had it all squared up in the back

and I ended up lookin' like this:

I like to keep some on top, so these new school barbers get lost since all they know how to do is cut one length all the way around(the basic Black man haircut)....I've gotten all kinds of shitty cuts...

I have to say specifically, "dont cut my hair into a box, please!!!"

Ive had cats put old man styles in my shit...thus why I keep a pair of clippers....so I can mitigate the damage if a barber fucks my shit up....

man.

I went to the Barber Shop a few years back ( this was when I kept my shit REAL low), and since I was new to the shop, I didn't really know the barbers that cut there. Here's a list of red flags I ignored.

- There wasn't a lot of people in there.

-They had a bunch of old ass pictures on the wall. ( MLK, Jesse Jackson in a Dashiki, etc)

-All the young cats in there were waiting on the same dude. ( who was probably about 25 at the time)

-the two old cats didn't have anybody in their chairs.

So you KNOW what MY dumb ass did, right?

"I'm smarter than everybody else...I'mma let Old Head cut me up, and I'll be outta here in 20 minutes...FUCK waitin' on ol' boy over there..."

DUDE. By the time he finished cuttin' my shit, my hairline was so far back I looked like George Jefferson. AND the motherfucker cut my facial hair all the way down. I had a fuckin' pencil moustache. I was HEATED.

Never again..

In response to Reply # 10

since low cut Caesars is the most common black man hair cut, how intricate/tight/sharp that line appears to be, is what separates a good, bad, okay or great cut now.

So alot of barbers do take 30-45 min on what used to be a simple 10 min haircut.

Where as I remember when I was a kid and teen, it was all about how tight your fade was..did that shit blend perfectly or was your shit a bowl ass Timmy...lol

You would think blending a fade would take longer than just a shape up. But now..the line up game has stepped up. You got barbers using the liners, then going BACK over it again with the comb and edger technique, THEN going BACK over it AGAIN with a blade..

'Cause by this point, no one's paying the anchored "We're about to archive" post any mind.

So, I've started SLOWLY archiving as well as deleting old posts to get this board to a manageable number of pages. I'm pretty methodical with it, so I click and read through almost every post with like 20+ replies, just in case. I give a lot of attention to the 100+ threads, 'cause that usually seems to be where there's more "discussion."

So, here's the thing: In some cases, these 100+ feature lots of arguing, sniping, name-calling, etc. to go along with the discussion. In fact, in many of them there's more arguing than actual discussion. Now, it's been the practice in the past that mods (in ALL forums) like the like to archive the big clusterfuck argument threads on general principle. I'm of mixed mind about it, because sometimes the name-calling just isn't that interesting.

So, I was inboxing about this with Tone, and he suggested that we take it to the people to get their input. So, people, here's your chance: how do y'all think we should proceed? Archive all the major arguments? Delete the spaz outs? Or something in-between. Let us know.

Oh, and I reserve the right to ignore all of you (except Tone and other Lesson mods).

delete nothing (unless it violates the guidelines and should have been deleted back when we had no mods), but archive the good topics/conversations

if the ^OKs are adamant about deleting hundreds of pages, then archive what you like, but listen to the suggestions (including those from 2009 and 2010 that are still around), and if you see the merit and no one has a counterargument to archiving, then archive them

i'm not a big fan of archived threads that are mostly swipes of other people's writing, there has to be at least some good conversation about it IMO, not just "props"

if a topic is mostly an ugly argument, and no one requested the archive, then don't archive

if i deleted everything that offended my proofreading eye or sense of grammar, a lot of people wouldn't be posting at all.

I'm not defending this style of posting but I'm trying to be positive cause like I've said plenty of times about The Lesson, some of the regulars & one's who think they are the annointed gatekeepers seem to run newbies off too quick even though it would be good if they read & lurk a while before posting up a post they think hasn't been done; but from my point of view I'm glad they decided to post than just lurk cause you never know they probably touched on a subject that hasn't (in a while).

i don't expect everyone to have a clever title for every thread, nor to have an encyclopedia-like knowledge of ALL things posted, but that just reeks of laziness...like the poster can't be bothered to even search to see if the thread has been made already. that dumb shit irritates me. . there are other ways to word a thread title that doesn't piss everyone off.

fuck it though, that shit ends today.

...is gonna be hearin' my rendition of Howard Johnson through about 16 bands of filtered synthesizer on the regular.

I don't know why this B-Lister gets so much play in the Volvo, and on the iPod. he constantly stayed with the best production of his time, and the way he sang, though I can see how it may unnerve some...is a style of male R&B singer I miss.

kinda also reminds me how elated I am to hear that Paul Laurence is gonna be getting the reissue-from-masters very soon.

it's from the folks at FunkyTownGrooves. Who used to push a lot of crud back in the day, but for the last couple of years, they've been getting with the labels (Sony mostly) and making proper reissues from the masters.

I think they're just now working with Capitol/EMI, because Melba Moore is getting proper reissues of her '80s albums as well (which I've pre-ordered).

And it IS that album BTW.

I just got my Syreeta and Brass Construction, from them. Ooh, who knows, maybe they'll deliver those O'Bryan albums this year ? BBR is cool, but they be focusing too much on the disco stuff(which, i don't have a problem with), but come on, can we get "Doin' Alright","You And I","Be My Lover", and "Surrender" ? i mean, damn. I so want to get rid of my vinyl dubs. The Melba reissues are nice, even though, i wish i had known they were gonna do those, i wouldn't had paid, what i paid, to get "A Lotta Love". But, i'm looking forward to replacing my "Never Say Never" dub(i know, it's a habit, the "Dub" thing....*hangs head low* lol). Oh, the self titled "Switch" album, is being reissued on Vinyl Masterpiece.

We have some soul venues in Paris, and most of the time the place is full of singers, choir members and musicians.

I saw a couple of acts that didn't have any backup singer there, and everytime the public started harmonizing like crazy with the performer. I usually don't like when people do that but those times it was beautiful, I wish I had a video of that ...
