that this record might be the one of the channels isolated on a stereo mix of the song might hold up. I know this is something beatmakers often do to get a different/isolated mix or a "clean" break. I don't have the vinyl of BJ2 or the 12" of this song, but I tried it out on WAV ripped from the remastered CD and I got something similar just by playing the right channel. You can still hear some of the bells on that side though.
Premier did this in "2nd Childhood" (you can hear "bits" of the guitar lick in what was sampled, but on the actual record, it's different).
That whole note on the Rhodes they play after the easily isolated part of that break, I don't know where that is on the record. Maybe it was down-pitched to match the rest.
