"your favorite drum track in rap history"

Whether it's Linn Drum or breaks or programmed or chopped samples

I really fucks with "livin' proof" not to beat a dead horse about primo's drums but the snare on the 2 and the 4 are reverbed slightly different and for some reason I loved that

"big pimpin" (DPGC version) drums are incredible because of how the hi hats, shakers, congas are eq'd and layered

I always liked Extra P's sleigh bells cause it was a signature of his and it had a great effect on the way the beat rode out

Apache slowed down by Salaam Remi for Made U Look was a good look... but was Impeach the President for I Know I Can corny?

The type of break you would hear on Digable Planets'9th Wonder I always thought made songs sound raw cause they didn't put the snares and kicks where hip-hop usually wanted them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTov9ZW4gY4 i don't know what you call that effect

Dilla humanized clap layered snare fans?

The most pound you in your ass, slammin, perfectly mixed drums in hip hop ever.

Honorable mention: Shouts (Alt) from Ruff Draft

Yeah, they're both Dilla, but fuck it, he was the best at drums.

anyone's entitled to like what they like so iont sweat it, but this one never really struck me as extra dope and after about 15 secs I get tired of hearing it

there with it, even "Jam Master Jay" is...but Sucka MC's makes me literally wanna learn how to break dance solely to break it out when it comes on.

"Top billin" is probably GOAT or way up there. Jeru "Come clean". I used to love "Skew it on the Bar-B's" drums. Heavy D "The overweight lover's in the house," those drums make me hyyyyype. Eric B. + Rakim "I ain't no joke." "Gimmie the loot." Tribe "Everything is fair" got damn no it ain't all fair. "Find a way" from Tribe. Beastie Boys "Paul revere"....yea all of those are vicious.

For modern tracks..."Tipsy," Grindin," Lil Jon "Git crunk," even "Cat daddy" has some sick ass drums on it, especially the change ups on it.

Even though someone like Premier has a rep for tracking down records, I just don't think he or many others bothered with original Skull Snaps because the break was so open on Stezo's jam.

Bonus beat: I read Eric B comment something about he could source like 20 open breaks off of Paul's Boutique.

83. "I Like A Lot Of Classic Drum Breaks But Lately..."
In response to Reply # 0

...I've been sampling my drums from one record the majority of the time cause it has so many nice & loud open breaks all over it.

lank: http://www.discogs.com/Joey-D-Vieira-DrumDrops-Volume-Two/release/2269827

I found this record over ten years ago and always played it but now just getting around to actually sampling from it though, I wish I could find the others in this series.

Anyway a few of my favorite breaks are:
James Brown "Funky Drummer"
Honey Drippers "Impeach The President"
Mountain "Long Red Live"
Audio Two "Top Billin'"

I'm not big on classic breaks, but I know I like this one when I hear it.

Probably that one and "Paul Revere".

In response to Reply # 0

ITP sounds massive on "Do The James." As we know, a lot of producers just grabbed this mix of the loop instead of using an OG/UBB copy.

"Grindin'" was unbelievable to me when it came out. Still sounds good and it influenced more than a few producers.

Whodini's "Friends" is too classic. Funky as hell.

Gotta give love to "PSK," "You're A Customer," and Jay Dee/J Dilla in general.
