I literally just yesterday listened to the Lyricist Lounge's for the first time in at least 6 years or so (front to back that is, I'd listened to certain tracks from them a few times in that period).
Anyway, I came in and was gonna post The Manifesto because that song was the reason I went back and listened to them yesterday in the first place. Love that track.
But anyway I'll keep with the Reflection theme and post my favorite song ever made:

The Manifesto is what made me do this post. It popped up on shuffle on my ipod and i went directly to the comp and listened to the whole thing. Definitely got me through my freshman year of college in 98.

I was mixing this post up with the Kweli vs. Lupe post, where 2000 Seasons was mentioned a couple more times.

But yea ---- greatest song ever IMO. Just the perfect blend. A dope, understated beat (looooooooooooove the piano), dope flow and lyrics, scratching on the hook ("ohhhh boy oh boy oh boy" cracks me up everytime), dope lyrics with a mix of introspection, battle raps and social commentary, etc. Just ...cannot possibly say enough about this track.

Yes! From the moment that joint hits "Yeah Hi-Tek" its on. I love singing it anytime it's played and like I mentioned previously, its from my fav. Mos/Kweli era. So many good memories from that time man. Mood/LoneCatalyst/Piakhan and that whole Wannabattle era was special to me.
I was in high school when Rawkus was at its peak and between that and the Soulquarians, that era pretty much defined that period in my life and continues to hit home with me today. Just beautiful music made during that time, we're lucky we were there to witness it.

And you know? I didn't even realize it was Maseo on the scratches. Fucking AWESOME.
And yea --- Rawkus' b-sides were always incredible. It almost makes me sad for them at the same time tho, because so many dope tracks are mostly forgotten because they were "relegated" to b-sides.

SIR MENELIK. Boy did they ever drop the ball on that shit,that was the project I was anticipating the most but it never really came together until 2005 (and to some degree 7 Eyes 7 Horns on Sun Large which was probably better than what would've come out on Rawkus)..ANYWAY..

The label released so much good music in such a relatively short period of time. It warms the cackles of my heart to see newer artists like Exquire and Danny Brown talking about how important Rawkus/Def Jux were to them growing up.
