Actually, I said that compared to the artists of his "era", Parrish Smith was dope. That is the same reason I am not going to put K-Solo in here even though the thought of listening to K-Solo holds little interest for me in 2010, at the time, he was pretty good.

The difference between guys like KRS, Rakim, Chuck D and a guy like Parrish Smith is that their rapping is still impressive today. I would not say I feel the same way about Parrish's rapping now, as I did when I first heard him. But that does not mean he sucked, which is the point I was making.

If that is a diss, so be it.

He was chilling with P in a largish entourage at Harbor Seafood and Oyster Bar out in Kenner, by the airport. P, groupies, and random hangers on/ No-Limit Soldiers (although now I think they're all on pre-pay) all the way at one end of the bar; Silkk all the way at the other end of the bar by himself, Happy Days extras in the middle. It seemed like P tried and failed to get them seated together as a party. People would occasionally come over and introduce themselves to P, but they didn't even look at Silkk.

Silkk was sulkking, and my friend acted all surprised, saying "Silkk, I'm shocked!" over and over again. I think he could hear her....

Silkk was the worst I heard on the national level, but I choose to believe that cats like White Dawg and Milkbone, who only exist to me as ads in Rap Pages, had to be worse.

What's funny is the first time I saw Coldchain I believe was on Def Poetry on HBO, his shit sounded marvelous a capella, I didn't realize he was going to actually try pulling off that same cadence on every Neptune track he was on though.

That's how Magoo's voice really sounds.

I think it's just an unfortunate circumstance on Magoo's part that he sounded so much like Q-Tip. I even remember him trying to lower his voice on later records, which didn't work at all because it sounded strained and artificial.

theres some real wackness out there right now... You wanna know why the line is so blurred between dope and wack? It's because Wayne who can be one of the dopest mc's, sometimes comes out with the worst garbage my ears have ever heard... So almost every other Wayne's verse, you can take a wack rappers verse and say it's better than Waynes...

he was the first rapper to learn how to rap whilst actively putting out albums. he didn't learn how to catch a beat until his fourth album. he never learned how to do something as easy as doubling up vocals. so when he doubled up, you could hear the words crashing into each other like a train wreck.

what was amazing is that even people who hated rap and never listened to rap could rap better than silk the shocker.

i mean really think about that.

you could mock rapping in your comedy routine and still sound better than silk the shocker. somebody who rapped for a living.

his nephew, lil romeo murdered him on his own shit*

I remember back in '97/'98 when No Limit was riding high. I was in the Navy stationed in Italy. All the "southern" dudes used to ride for Silkk and them dudes on some serious stuff.

he was big in the Bay, before he became big in the south... And I'm not saying he went to the south and became a bitch, but the music he was making when he was in the bay was way better, imo....

The 80's BPM, sometimes samplin 80's tracks, 808s on it...the South wasn't really on that vibe too much aside from some Texas music, but especially not in New Orleans. "Bout it bout it" sounds VEEEEEEEERY West.

I didn't realize that until years later. As a youth in PG County, MD at the height of both labels' popularity, I was buying both NO and Cash Money CDs on release day dude. But damn, looking back the only dude out of just about all of No Limit who was worth a damn was Mystikal. And I don't care what you think, that's true.

But damn Cash Money was soooooooooo fun to listen to.

I had two CD booklets...one for most of my favorites, such as Outkast Cube Mack 10 etc....then one that was ONLY No Limit artists!!!! I would buy EVERYTHING they had, including the Basketball compilation and Lil soldiers album!!!

I actually thought Cash Money was a fake NL at first, but I heard 400 degreez n said ok, they are coo...then I bought Wayne's first album.

but because back then, people who sucked like that crashed and burned... I can't remember the dude

dude's video was all on Rap City too -- it was over a song sampling "Flashlight", I can't even remember the verses except the whole "and now I reversed the F Word"

it was garbage. It had to be after like '91 or so because I remember Cube using the same "Flashlight" part in "The Wrong Nigga To Fuck Wit", if I remember correctly ... and wanting to make a beat off that myself

that dude ruined that track. To Kool Chuck levels.

As wack as his lyrics were, The Nutcracker at least had some understanding of timing and flow. Silkk rhymed like he was uncontrollably traveling in and out of the space/time continuum every other bar.

That is a good argument, but for me at least, the weakness of MAlachi's lyrics was just too much. Sillk was horribly off beat but Malachi's lyrics...like I said in the article, the wackest lyrics of all time.

Silk's voice was easily worse than Malachi's too.
